Re: Nintendo Download: 13th June (North America)

Mutant Mudds! I was so pumped to download it, but I'm having a surprisingly hard time with some of the enemies that are depth-based (ie: thwomp-like slammie guys and hammer guys.) It's just harder without that 3D oomph. Still thoroughly enjoying it, though! Looks gorgeous in HD.

Re: First Impressions: Super Mario 3D World

@The_Joker Same here, bud. I think everyone's caught up with the feeling of initial disappointment from Nintendo saying "there will be a new 3D Mario at E3!" If they hadn't said /anything/, and we got this totally out of left field, I think a lot more people would be happier without any pre-determined expectations. I totally wasn't expecting this game and am eagerly awaiting it!

Re: Feature: The Humble Origins of Animal Crossing

bahooney

@Kirk Seeing as how you're on a Nintendo site, I'm actually surprised about your comments. Nintendo has always been about gameplay over graphics. The N64 version is waaaaaay more blocky than New Leaf. The difference is night and day. But even if it wasn't, it's a wonderful style that they're going for, and the gameplay backs it up. Animal Crossing isn't about being some flashy HD special effects game.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Recalling Wii U Basic Bundle

bahooney

I don't really understand why people who own the 8gb basic model are moaning about this recall. It was your decision to not spend an extra 50 bucks and get higher memory. It was your decision to opt out of how much value you get for your money and put the color of a console higher on your priorities. Nintendo doesn't owe you anything. This isn't like the 3DS price cut. They're recalling the basic models and most likely selling them for a higher price with upgraded memory.

Re: Review: Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS)

@Superconsole I'm really interested in the soundtrack of the game. Does it feature primarily recycled material from Wild World/Let's Go To The City, or is it mostly new tracks for the overworld, changing with each hour? The reason I ask is because I REALLY digged the soundtrack of the original, but was pretty disappointed with WW/LGTTS.

Re: Video: Disney's Planes Trailer Flies Into View

bahooney

This game looks rather plane to me, at least conceptually. I wouldn't be surprised if the game play ends up taking a nose dive in quality. Consumers might want to barrel roll away from this one. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong and it'll take flight on the charts.

Re: Nintendo Download: 6th June (Europe)

Bleeeghh! Please tell me America's VC release schedule is at least slightly better than this! I really must wonder who at the Nintendo HQ makes the VC decisions. What must that conversation be like?

"Hmm... alright, gang, let's have a chat about the VC. We have a glorious back log of well-loved IP's, and the next VC release is right around the corner. What kind of games do you-"
"SPELUNKER!!??"
"Why... yes! Spelunker! And next week... ELEVATOR ACTION!!"

Re: Renegade Kid Divulges Mutant Mudds Deluxe Control Options

@Tuurtledove You're welcome! Hey, if you didn't ask, I wouldn't have reflected on my time with the game and realized that it's actually a bit more slow than other ventures in the genre. But this totally works in it's favor, and allows your brain to pick apart scenarios that require the perfect jump length or to pick up on an enemy's movement pattern.

If you have a 3DS, I strongly encourage you to check out the demo. The 3D is incredible... if you've ever had the pleasure of playing Virtual Boy Wario Land, it's almost exactly like that. You get to jump back and forth between these different planes of depth, and it's super cool. Wow, I'm really hyped to play this on the big screen in hi def now!

Re: Renegade Kid Divulges Mutant Mudds Deluxe Control Options

bahooney

@Tuurtledove Quality? Absolutely outstanding. Golden stars and A+'s across the board! Pixel-perfect art style, spot on controls, really groovy music. If you're a fan of platformers (which I can assume you are, you're on a Nintendo fansite!), this game couldn't be more up your alley.

It's hard for me to compare it to any other games, because it's rather slow-moving. There've been plenty of run-'n-gun platformers, but this one is very... slow. There's no running! The main character just kind of trots slowly through each level. But it isn't weird until you think about it, it feels quite natural.

tl;dr: it's a fantastic offering on the eShop, and a wonderful throwback to the SNES era. Two thumbs as far up as the eye can see.

99 CENTS?!??!113F HOW DARE THEY CHARGE ME A DOLLAR TO USE A ROBUST ONLINE SURVISS?!!? ID RATHER BUY A MCDOUBLE ANY DAY.

Seriously, there are sooooo many whiners on this site about the most miniscule stuff. "Oh, my SNES games are EIGHT DOLLARS?! I 'AINT GETTING /NOTHIN'!/ But if it were FIVE dollars..." "NES GAMES FOR FIVE?!!?! THEY SHOULD BE GIVEN FOR FREE! chews on toothpick." The nerve of some folk...

Re: Mega Man X Blasting Its Way Onto Wii U Virtual Console This Week

bahooney

I'm happy for those looking forward to this one! Always good to see some Super Nintendo love on the VC. That said, won't be downloading this one. I own a boxed copy for SNES, and I don't love the game enough to double dip. Though save states /might/ sway me in the right direction... maybes if it's on sale.

Re: Tomodachi Collection Famitsu Article Falls Foul Of Unfortunate Timing

bahooney

Frickin jeeze... this comments section looks worse than the comments section on a Kotaku article about Mars sand. Seriously, guys, lighten up! This was an intriguing little piece that not only pertains to Famitsu, but Tomodachi Collection as well. What, your whole day is ruined now because you /chose/ to click on an article that wasn't 100% Nintendo related?

Re: Dylan Cuthbert of Q-Games - Nintendo and Wii U Need a "New Super IP"

bahooney

@LunaticPandora Unfortunately for hardcore gamers (and your argument) the "Wii brand" series of games DOES count, was internally developed, and sold MASSIVELY. Your stance is null. Other than that, all I can think of is Elite Beat Agents, Tomodachi Collection (yes, it's JPN only, but it's selling in a big way) and Fling Smash. /argument

Re: Nintendo Download: 9th May 2013 (North America)

I'm actually really surprised nobody's pumped for Solomon's Key. My buddy and I picked up the cart and bust out the NES quite frequently for this gem! If you've seen the episode of Game Center CX where this was featured, picking it up is a no-brainer. Very challenging puzzler, but VERY rewarding, addicting, and plain fun. Controls like a dream. Definitely show some love!

Re: Talking Point: Censoring Boingy Bits, Bums and Gore

bahooney

I always find it a little embarrassing when I'm playing a game around friends or the girlfriend, and some boingy bit show up seemingly out of nowhere. Totally inappropriate, and I feel like I'm getting too old for that stuff. If I wanted to see pixelated boobs I wouldn't have friends over and I'd dim the lights.

Re: Madden NFL Is Skipping Nintendo Systems For The First Time Since 1991

bahooney

Not bummed about this American Football game skipping the Wii U. I'm bummed about what this /potentially/ means for the console. I love Nintendo to death and I'm going to support them probably for life, but I just want some games, y'know? I'm excited about most of the games that have been announced so far, but I'm thinking I might have to cave and get a PS4 or summat to get a full gaming experience. I love the Wii U, and I love all of Nintendo's consoles, but I just really don't want a Virtual Boy or N64 scenario where there's only 20 or so must-haves and only three of those are developed by Nintendo. I'll be patient, as the heavy hitters haven't shown their faces yet. The Wii U still has tons of fight left in her!
