Re: Talking Point: Claims of Wii U Third-Party Development Troubles Shouldn't Be Dismissed Lightly

Williaint

@Ice Climbers You must be an industry analyst!
I hate to sound like a FanBoy (NL should make that a bad word — then again, it would greatly change the comments, if it wasn't used...), but I think some developers are making developing to the WiiU more difficult, by insisting the G-Pad needs to be implemented. Deja vu, I think I've typed this before, again...
As Thomas mentioned, this probably-early-based opinion isn't reflective of every developer or studio.
There is no debate against whether or not, currently, Nintendo's 3rd party relationships aren't the best...

Re: Feature: Nintendo Games We'd Love to See in 2014

Williaint

@Intrepid I would like to see a new Advance Wars game, as well. They have been kinda getting a bit Over the top with powers... I don't think they need to expand on those. A larger game would be awesome, and an option for online play would be excellent. The Wii U could be a great Platform for an advance Wars Game. Having both 3DS and Wii U versions would be even better.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Games We'd Love to See in 2014

Williaint

@Doma Thanks - I'm stealing organizational system, or list. (I Actually, I agree with most):
Metroid Prime IV (Wii U)
I thought the series was finished... I can't decided which idea is worse, this or Majora's Mask 3D, or Rosalina's Observatory...
I think Retro could (should) be better used working on other things like:
Metroid Dread (3DS)
"I have no idea why this hasn't happened yet..." --Doma Neither do I! I even remember there being rumours about it!
F-Zero AGX (3DS)
An F-Zero 3DS game that would link to the Wii U would be quite Nifty.
F-Zero UX (Wii U eShop)
I think making it a simple eShop game seems sort of... well, a simplifying of the series... Custom cars, and a link with the tentative 3DS version may make it worth it...
Super Mario Galaxy HD Collection (Wii U eShop)
"HELL. NO!" --Doma The Only reason this would be acceptable would be if they released SMG3 along with it...
Kid Icarus: Fallen (Wii U)
Could be great. The controls prevented me from enjoying the 3ds game, so i shelved it early.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D (3DS)
Although it hasn't been officially confirmed, This probably will be coming. Since I don't like the game, I'd leave it; I don't care, either way.
Mario & Luigi's Mansion (Wii U)
Although I wouldn't mind a Mario Game where your weapons are E.Gad's Gadgets... It might be better to change the game so it isn't just some mansions.
Mario Paint (Wii U eShop)
I had a LOT of fun with the original Mario Paint. If it was similar to the forgotten Mario Artist, and allowed game modifications... that might be a seller.
Animal Crossing: City Life (Wii U)
As mentioned previously, Something new — Not City Life. I suppose it could be more "Sim" ish...
SNES Remix (Wii U eShop)
It just kind of seems like you are milking the series... I'm not really against it, though. I'd rather have a SNES Re-launch, with a lot of SNES games launched into the Wii U e-shop.
Rosalina's Observatory (3DS eShop)
It's not a great idea; might as well make Pokemon Safari Zone Pictures (Pokemon Snap U?)— It would sell better.
Star Fox: Battle for Corneria (Wii U eShop & 3DS eShop)
the description makes me think... "Star Fox Multiplayer + Dynasty warriors"
Fire Emblem Anthology (3DS & Wii U)
I'm not a fan of Anthologies... but, I haven't played many Fire Emblem games...
Paper Mario: Origami (Wii U eShop)
I liked the Paper Mario Series, it was pretty original. Now... it's much less so. The title isn't bad, suiting the series, but you may as well bring back the Wonderful 101, and make them paper. The idea just doesn't sound that fun. Almost as boring as Rosalina's Observatory.

Re: World Record Speed Runner Just Can't Stop Playing Zelda: Ocarina Of Time

Williaint

I wouldn't call it a sport... it's competition, but not sport. When you are doing similar movements, over and over... it's more like playing music.

@rjejr before long, people won't even need to speak, in order to type ...

The only reason I disagree with speed-running through glitches is that you aren't playing the real game, and following the real rules. At the same time, since there ARE glitches there, it seems reasonable. It's like freedom of speech.... Since he was using the iQue, however, any true speed competition, in "this sport", against him would need to be using the iQue as well.

Re: Dallas Tech Company iLife Thinks Nintendo Stole Its Idea For Motion Control

Williaint

If iLife has their name patented, they would have an easier time going after Apple for using the name on iLife software. I'm sure the reason their page is called iLifesolutions, is because apple already had iLife.
@JohnBgon That Tom Quinn story pretty much negates iLife Solution's attack on Nintendo. Well, I don't blame it for getting bounced back, according to their site, they haven't updated in over a year.
The Wii which, released in 2006, Was first publicly revealed 9 years ago.... Which again raises the question.... Why now? They say they have something against the Wii U? It's over a year old.

Re: GamePad High Capacity Battery Now Available in North America

Williaint

For a one time payment to increase the battery life, if doesn't sound bad. I might get it some later time. At the moment I just play with it plugged in.
I am assuming the "red light of doom" is when the G-Pad needs to be recharged...

Last time I ordered something from Nintendo it was cheap, or free.

Re: Hyrule Warriors Is Zelda Meets Dynasty Warriors, And It's Coming To Wii U In 2014

Williaint

@SonataAndante
The Mishmash of styles caused me some dismay, as well. The idea that the game had several different eras, are jumbling into a few fights made me sort of sick...
I was a bit relieved by the amount of hearts Link had acquired, but the method of which they are acquired remains a mystery. The best idea for a story is if it is based on a huge war of Hyrule. Slashing and battles are thereby given a purpose, and the constant fighting shown is also made reasonable. Since many large wars are simply mentioned, in the series, it would be perfect...
The worst possible story: A magic hole has been opened up, Zelda has been captured by Ganon, and is sending his minions from different eras. Link is asked by the guard to help fight the battles. After a battle he goes back to the castle to heal, and then gets a new weapon, which WILL help him out during the next battle...
@Kmno Having that many characters in the battle still wouldn't be a big enough strain on the Wii U. Many of these posters are simply exaggerating, about it's lack of graphics.
Speaking of Graphics: When I first saw it, I thought: is this the NEW Zelda? The Graphics are... well, they are pretty good... It's looking good... The Treasure chest looked pretty bad. That was probably my least favourite part. The graphics are equal, or superior to, the Spider-Demo from 2011.

Re: Tech Site The Verge Thinks The Wii U's Failure Won't Change Nintendo

Williaint

I won't agree Wii U is even near failing. It's following, almost exactly, the same path as the 3DS. At the beginning, people just thought it was a new DS with 3D... People still believe Wii U is a Wii with HD graphics and a tablet controller.
Sony and Microsoft have created an amazing media hype for their ABSOLUTE NEXT GEN consoles.

@rjejr Bayonnetta 2 is probably scheduled for mid-late summer (possibly to fill a gap between games), since this was a spring-direct, it makes sense to leave it out... I'm looking forward to WatchDogs, too... And there is no reason to just kill the Wii U version... it's a game that seems made for the G-pad.

Re: Fresh Details Are Sucked Up for Kirby: Triple Deluxe

Williaint

Well, I'm even more excited for the game after that! Kirby Fighters itself looks like a fun game.
Over 20 abilities, including new ways to use some classics... Sounds good.
@rafaelluik Kirby Fighters may be a dumbed down Smash Bros, but it's a great deal for a Kirby game.
I hope that it's better, too. Kirby's Yarn was a disgrace to Kirby.

Re: Hyrule Warriors Is Zelda Meets Dynasty Warriors, And It's Coming To Wii U In 2014

Williaint

@Goginho @Laxeybobby @other commenters
Yes, I believe it fits The Legend of Zelda well, to reiterate, there are many large battles and wars, in LoZ's lore, and they are hardly spoken of. This will allow the game to have less of a story (not that I don't think it should have a good story) and more action.

Unless you've never played a Zelda game, before, you know that Hacking and Slashing is quite centric to the series; this takes it to the next level.

@Natdaman
You can't judge anything from a 1 minute teaser. Especially one that doesn't even have a proper title yet. You sound like a graphics bigot... why would anyone judge a console on a single game?

Re: Ender's Game Star Asa Butterfield Cut His Teeth On The Nintendo GameCube

Williaint

Well, Getting a Wii U wouldn't be a bad plan. I know that the Under-18 actors don't see their money directly, but getting a Wii U and Windwaker would definitely not set him back.
The Book was one of the best I've read, recently.... I will watch the movie, but — as with almost every film based on a novel — I'm expecting it to not reach my expectations.

Re: Rosalina And Luma Work Their Magic On The Super Smash Bros. Roster

Williaint

Honestly, who didn't see this coming? She is in every other Mario-based game, these days.

I love the intros that Sakurai (I doubt it's actually him, but probably under his instruction) makes. At first I thought it was for Mario Kart. Then Kirby came flying in, I thought: "Oh, Kirby in Mario Kart... that's kinda Smashing up the series; I guess Pac-man was in one game... Super Mario Kart AllStars?"
Then I saw that star-baby, and thought "Isn't that Rosalina's 'Toad?'" And about that time I realized it was a Smash Bros. trailer, not a Mario Kart one.

Re: Hyrule Warriors Is Zelda Meets Dynasty Warriors, And It's Coming To Wii U In 2014

Williaint

I've watched the teaser about 8 times now...
I am very excited about this game. It may not be a conventional LoZ, it's — as has been said — a Warriors spinoff; albeit not a bad idea. During the "Legends" we hear of many wars being fought. This will pit Link in the middle of one of those wars. I'm sure this would appeal greatly to those who don't enjoy exploring... As with the title, I doubt the graphics are finalized. I think Moblin Wars might be a better title.
I've never played a DW game (rather, not that I recall), so I don't know, based on other games/spinoffs on the series, how much depth it will go into. That being said, Nobody knows exactly, yet (outside of the developers). All that is known is that it's a Beat-em'-up, and you'll get to use the Fire-Rod.

I would like say I'm surprised at how many people are disappointed by the teaser trailer ( which was not like Nintendo to show something like that), but I'm not. "Link is wearing a scarf, it looks like SS! I don't like the graphics, you shouldn't like the game."

Re: Nintendo Direct Focusing On Wii U And 3DS Games Coming Spring 2014 To Air Tomorrow

Williaint

Sarcastic: I bet they will show 3 new Smash bros. 4 Characters, Including skull kid as an actual player, a new "real" legend of Zelda actual game footage, a new mario galaxy and Metroid prime, by retro — and all the new Wii U VC games coming out. A New F-Zero where yii can build your own racer.

Realistic: They will probably show DK: TF, MK8, New Wii Sports Clubs, maybe another few Pikmin DLCs, a few 3rd party things, and one or two VC games, or deals. I highly doubt they will touch on Bayonetta 2; if they do, a few screen shots. The New Kirby will probably make an appearance. Adding some new Smash Bros 4 details is not likely, but boy — would that make a lot of people happy. OH! I bet they will reiterate about Miiverse on 3DS. Remember this is mainly about SPRING releases. @DarkKirby You are probably right, for MK8 to be complete, there's a 50/50 chance it'll be released NOT in Spring.

What I'm hopin' for: I would like to see some announcements for the future, maybe into early summer, like eshop and if a LOAD of VC games (C'mon Nintendo, give everyone a merry jolly christmas and release 50 VC games). Revealing A new Smash Bros 4 character. Another Nice Christmas gesture.

Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Wii U eShop / Super Nintendo)

Williaint

@Kenseiden
Back in the days when renting games was the norm, I rented this by accident too (I played a lot of games, I think Yoshi's Island is the most memorable) But I had never finished it. I always got confused where to go, and I remember charging back and forth in the Dark World, as lost as in the the Water Temple, from OoT.
I got it for Wii — only 150 points — so I could finish it before I played LBW. I only got about halfway
I'd say it's tied with Super Metroid in grandeur.

Re: Talking Point: Miiverse Can Promote System Unity And Serve As A Powerful Wii U Advertisement

Williaint

There aren't a lot of interesting conversations, on Miiverse. There are, at least, hundreds of "Who do you want in the new Smash Bros. game?" or "Yeah if you like my drawing/this game/". They could have just scrolled down to check, and seen the exact same message, a few times.
It does work well as a public FAQ, if you are lucky enough to have your question seen.
What Masahiro Sakurai is doing with his weekday postings is a really good idea, and this should be done more. It gives people a reason to visit Miiverse, even from their computer.

Re: Soapbox: Even With The Arrival Of PS4 And Xbox One, I'd Still Pick The Wii U

Williaint

@element187
Yes, it will look more smooth — especially if you use blur. When I'm animating something, even at 30fps, it's often more effective to NOT animate every frame. If something that's supposed to be running at 30fps runs at 60fps it will look a bit weird. If you want to shoot something in slow motion, then recording 6000+fps is a good plan. You can see the difference, then. Thanks for the link.

@Stucazzo Yes I corrected myself yes, yesterday.

Re: Soapbox: Even With The Arrival Of PS4 And Xbox One, I'd Still Pick The Wii U

Williaint

The very logic that I am an "idiot to just own a single console" is stupid.
Just because 3rd parties haven't got on the Wii U Band wagon yet, doesn't mean they won't.

@kupo
I was just thinking of Turok this morning. I don't know how he'd make a comeback.... TUROK: CROCODILE HUNTER
@element187 Humans eyes can't tell the difference past 30fps (actually, it's about 24fps). It won't look any better. If a regular tv program is running at 60fps, it just looks weird.
I said it before, and I'll reiterate it again: Nintendo has more better exclusives than both the xnone and PS4.
The ads on TV are very misleading: "ONLY POSSIBLE ON XBOX ONE!" It that were true, then they must have used Xbox ones to make the game....
@Doma
If you were talking about sports games (Including Mario and Sonic's Olympic games), I would agree with you. I honestly don't like the NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. series of games, and hope not to see another for a while, but I still enjoyed those games. NSMBU was a lot of fun.

Re: Soapbox: Even With The Arrival Of PS4 And Xbox One, I'd Still Pick The Wii U

Williaint

@ Rafie Genesis wasn't actually a lot more powerful, but it was. and TurboGrafX-16 was as well. Really, that didn't seem to matter much — especially since most gamers around that generation were kids.
That's fine. It's also a great way to play GCN games. $40? That's less expensive than a 3DS game!
I own a PS1, I bought it with 2 dual shock controllers and a few memory cards for $10. I don't have games for it, though.
NOTE: I just checked a site comparing the 16-bit generation; I guess The Genesis was faster ( by about 4 Mhz), but really not that much better. The TGX-16 is debatably more powerful ( I was under the impression it just WAS). So, ya, you're more right about the graphics. That's what I get for assuming things all these years.... (On the other hand the 32x did power it up, and the NEO GEO AES was faster, but about the same price as xbone, and with less games)
@ I-AM-REGGIE That's not a bad guess. Nintendo will, no doubt, do better than last year. There are a lot of people who want a Wii U, but are still waiting. I know xbone has huge promises to live up to, and there is still the
big deal about "Microsoft's XBOX division" changing hands; that can always have consequences. Dire Consequences.
@erv Indeed.. I wouldn't say it's a strong point, unless you only care about graphics, and pretty colours. You may was well watch a movie, or even better, go outside for a walk. That's almost as good graphics as xbone!

@Dreamcaster-X Wow, you even have Mario and Sonic at Sochi!

Re: Soapbox: Even With The Arrival Of PS4 And Xbox One, I'd Still Pick The Wii U

Williaint

On Wavebird: The controller is perfectly weighted, can reach insane distances away, and has a huge battery life.

@Ronoh The popularity contest is Nintendo's Worst enemy. The "Console Wars" helped Sony and Microsoft market to the masses. (Watch South Park's latest trilogy for a good view on it)
@Dreamcaster-X the Dualshock4 might be a better controller (And better than xbones), but.... The Pro pad is still good. One of the worst controllers Nintendo's released was the "SNES-STYLE Wii pad".
@Rafie Actually, the PS2 was the weakest. It gained popularity for having the DVD player, a cheaper price and some alright games. If you look at competing consoles, perspectives have switched (maybe not perspectives, but ideals.) since the NES era: The Mastersystem was more powerfulthan the NES, the Genesis and TurboGraphx 16 were more powerful than SNES, the PS1 was less powerful than the N64. Waning from the last generation, it seems powerful is the new absolute.
If you got the Wii U, just transfer your stuff there, and give your daughters that old Wii. It's quite seamless to go from Wii U home to the Wii part.
From all the videos I've watched of Knack, I'm still not interested. I'd like to play it, but I am still uninterested. I'm even less interested in Forza, 'cause I generally don't like driving games... and according to the ACTUAL game footage, it goes in slow motion .
@Doma Just because I enjoyed a game makes me a fanboy? I was "enthralled" with Red Dead Redemption, but that didn't last too long...
Maybe I am a 'Fanboy', but I'm not biased. "Doom and gloom" is something I disagree with because it's primarily prejudiced, with little actual facts/exaggerated quotations... and more based on opinions. Of course, there is a lot of the same happening defending the Wii U. For my defence, I do try to research before posting any facts.

Re: Soapbox: Even With The Arrival Of PS4 And Xbox One, I'd Still Pick The Wii U

Williaint

I reiterate: Judging by the games scores, especially exclusives, Wii U dominates (I use that term lightly) the other consoles. Currently.
I see that the xbox one has instant access to other entertainment, like DVD/blu-ray, or TV... Well you can have instant access to DVD/blu-ray or TV on Wii U AND have the ability to play while watching them.

@Dreamcaster-X Maybe I'm controller blind, but I still enjoy the Wavebird better than Dual Shock 4 (The best still the SNES controller).
@Senario Here-here!

Re: Talking Point: Moving To Smartphones Is Not The Answer For Nintendo

Williaint

Tablets and touch/no touch will, however unfortunate, certainly be the norm pretty soon. Packaging a tablet with the console is thinking ahead.
If Iwata is looking so far ahead, he should have some assistant looking less far ahead.
If Nintendo got into the 'phone-biz', I fear it'd turn out like the Untitled. Yes, possibly ruining even Nintendo's Handheld's reputation...
Making/having those simple arcadey games is fine; games where the only goal is to beat someone's score... games like Tetris have sold systems. Putting them to iOS/android, etc. is a bad idea, because it trivializes Nintendo's hardware.
With so many "emulators and roms" floating around, that can be used on many platforms for free, it makes no sense to actually PURCHASE games. If you could block those files, it would help Nintendo a bit (but probably a lot).
@NewBond If that "device 6" game scored so high, then it would also be higher than all the PS4/Xboxone titles released so far this year as well, as well (It seemed that the average metacritic score was "6.1").
By the way: the DS family of systems is the biggest-selling handheld console in history (narrowly behind PlayStation 2 in the overall stakes)... That suggests the PS2 was a handheld console...

Re: Former Sony Developer Feels The Wii U "Won't See Another Christmas"

Williaint

Sony and Microsoft are marketing "hype". If people actually did their research when buying these, do you think they'd be buying all these mediocre games? Why would they buy them in the first place? Because they are the casual "crowd", the "sheeple" that apparently don't buy Xboxs or Playstations (That's not a fact, just a probable observation). PS4 vs XBOXONE are all over the news Which should you buy? That general media generally ignores Nintendo, is pretty disappointing. This leads to:
[i]THE IMPORTANCE OF ADVERTISING to the CASUAL AUDIENCE[/i ]
I've seen so many Forza and Ryse: ads, I'v become less interested each time I see them. When you can't avoid the advertising, it's hard not to wonder what you are missing out on. I haven't seen any Wii U ads (other than 3rd party games) that weren't online, but I've seen "a Link Between Worlds" ads a bit too much.
It would not hurt Nintendo to "do the PEPSI challenge". (basically a large advertising campaign, is what I'm saying) In marketing, one of the best ways to change how people feel about something is through ridicule — http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appeal_to_ridicule — (Since fear won't work very well).
75% of analyst's statistics are wrong. 85% of commenters "facts", are opinions that have no basis.
I could care less what a defunct developer's opinions are.
It would take a large and tragic turn of events to stop the Wii U, Even if it hasn't got the best reputation. If you look at at (and judge by) reviews, Wii U has better exclusives than XBone, or PS4.

Personally, I enjoyed the Gamecube. The controller, very much so.
