Re: Soapbox: The 8-Bit Era Laid the Groundwork, but Modern Day Progress Shouldn't be Discounted

Williaint

I can mostly agree with the article... and, luckily, most of the comments.
The Good 'Ol Internet has given people a new level of hearsay, when it comes to judging something. Especially when the reasoning is JUST BECAUSE. I don't believe HD graphics — no matter how extreme — make a game (unless the game is based on making graphics). I do have a soft spot for "retro games", since I lived through and loved the SNES era; my personal experience. During the early N64 days, I envisioned a game that you'd be able to travel anywhere in the world, in third person, where YOU are the character. Though there isn't any game like that, there could be (Google Maps/Earth/whatever isn't a game).
I'm excited to see new Modern day games, but more frequently than not, I can be more entertained with something made 25 years ago.

Re: Feature: When it Comes to Games, What's in a Name?

Williaint

I think Rockman would confuse the American Audience, too. "Why isn't he made of stone?" or "Why doesn't he have a guitar?"
I prefer the name BioHazard.
Lylat Wars isn't bad; it intrigues the curiosity of the player in to what (or who) Lylat is, before they even play the game. Star fox does this, too — just on a more personal level (who is the Fox?). Starwing... it doesn't offer as much curiosity...
Earthbound is a much better name, than "mother". Considering almost any HardCore person these days, wouldn't go close to a game called "mother", even if it got 10/10 ratings.
Personally, I don't care what a game is named, but an average person has an imaginative social image to uphold, and having a game called "Pink and Purple Silly Geese" — a gory hardcore porn and FPS RPG shooter rated GPA (Grandparent Supervision advised, too gory for most adults) — would cause people to avoid the game. If it was called "Black and Red Slash Crows", it could avoid those problems.
Flower Town ... not a good name, unless it's a Garden Simulator...

Re: Soapbox: Why We Should Expect More From The Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker HD

Williaint

A few months ago, I overheard some kids talking about Goldeneye 007, for N64. "Oh, yeah, I played this at my friends house! It sucks!" "COD is way better." "It's not even online!" I've never really enjoyed the game, but it doesn't suck (and it's better than CoD). These are is just opinions. I'd go as far as to say hearsay; but then again, the internet is full of that...
After watching some videos, I think Windwaker is fine with MIDI music... I wish I had it to play right now.

@PokemonManiac
That's true, although it is funny to see what hacks they have, sometimes. I've only seen pictures and video of that modified Windwaker; but it just made me want to play the original even more...
@GamerZack7
I'm in a similar situation, I just chose "Yes", because It was probably closest. thanks for correcting us
@PKUltima
In some cases — boat speed — it is getting remade (not to mention some other alterations)...

Re: Soapbox: Why We Should Expect More From The Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker HD

Williaint

I would likely agree with you more, if my copy of Windwaker didn't disappear (It has to do with my brother, and some beer... or something). I've only played through the game about three and a half times, and not very recently! So
I enjoy MIDI, in most cases call me crazy. In video games, it's easy to use MIDI sounds, such as the instance of conducting winds, or playing an ocarina notes. It does add to the laziness claim, however, as you would think they'd have a better way of doing it, 10 years later.
The mysterious dungeons are another thing that should have been put in (or should be, I haven't heard anything that says they won't be). Ocarina of Time 3D has the Master Quest, so why couldn't you put a couple new areas?

If they were making a Windwaker or OoT remake at this point, I would agree that the OoT HD remake would probably be more fashionable, in the public eye. When OoT 3D came out, I was hesitant to get it, but I did, and don't regret it. If there was a 3D Windwaker, I probably wouldn't. Not because I don't like the game, because I could probably find a discount version of the GCN game, play it on my Wii, and get a better experience out of it, despite any speed issues.
The Demo I got to play, at BestBuy, was the Helmaroc King. It felt clumsy, at first. I wasn't really impressed with the boss, but I was impressed with what I saw, watching other parts.

The first time I played Windwaker, I don't even remember finding the speed a problem... It wasn't until years later, when people began to complain, that I recalled what kind of ordeal it was...

@ballistic90
I don't think it's a test... They already have tests for this. And they've already tested this. It may have been a test on GCN, just like Sunshine was a Water-tester, and Luigi's Mansion was an Air-tester.
@MeowGravy
That's just all "REAL GAMERS"
@Subie98
If they don't offer much new content, a lower price is reasonable. Nonetheless, I won't have to pay for it (my brother is paying for it, 'Cause he lost the original).

Re: Video: Reggie Explains Nintendo's Approach to Ensuring Wii U Success

Williaint

Reggie is Confident; I thought the Forbes interviewer looked very nervous...
Concerning No games to play, not playing at all? I've got plenty of games to play, but I end up playing Wii U every day (Rayman Challenges, and sometimes some Virtual console titles, like Yoshi, and Kirby's Dream Course). When if first launched, I was bored of batman, and Nintendo land, and New Super Mario Bros U, so I continued with Xenoblade. I downloaded Majora's Mask, and played it more (I still don't like it). With 3DS, I play everyday now, too. For A while I was playing simple Virtual Console titles, after finishing my other games.
Even if the G-pad is only used for maps or items, it turns out to be quite handy. But, there are things that were demoed at E3, for instance the Wonderful 101, Artist... or whatever it's called.

@hydeks
I'm glad you feel this way. It's sort of an elitist attitude; REAL GAMERS are foolishly indecisive, wanting something completely different, but exactly the same. People who can't admit that Video games are just toys, no matter how old, or who you are.
@KoopaKid
I'm surprised you are even thinking of spending that much money. You could probably get one for half price, WITH three racing games. PATIENCE, if you have any left.

Re: Rumour: Mario Kart 8 Coming To Wii U in April

Williaint

@GamerJunkie
I hate Driving games like "forza". No matter how real they are, They aren't any fun... I'd have just as much fun with those as a highly rendered jpeg, in a flash game going from point A. to point B.. Just as many kids play those realistic driving games

April is pretty early in the year, but I wouldn't doubt it. However, this is probably just a rumour.

PS4 burying the Wii U? I'll probably still be playing Pokemon X, or Windwaker HD until Super Mario 3D world comes out; The Only reason I'd get a PS4, in the foreseeable future would be to play GTA 5 and Destiny... Which I could probably just play on my Computer, anyway.

Re: EA: Frostbite 3 On Wii U "Not Impossible"

Williaint

I know that Ex-EA employee said it couldn't, But it also turned out to be hearsay (EA did not deny that it couldn't work). Basically, they have assumed it couldn't work, without proving it; that's not good.
Originally, it was said the Unreal 4 engine couldn't work, but they changed their minds about that. I have no idea about the CryEngine 3; if it can run on 360 and PS3, it should be able to run on WiiU.
Recently, EA has come out and said that they aren't developing anything right now, because it is just a waste of their time and money to port something. So how many consoles does Wii U need to sell, before it is becoming enough of the great EA? 100 million, 1 billion? What if PS4 and XBone sell less at launch than Wii U did? Would EA admit that they jumped on the wrong horse?

Re: Microsoft Execs Thought They Owned Donkey Kong After Acquiring Rare

Williaint

@Kelevra
I think the Nintendo "Play Station" was a folly. If it actually went through...? The PSX wouldn't Exist. Perhaps even the Virtual Boy wouldn't exist, and the Phillips CD i wouldn't have any popularity. Sega could be in a much different place. Who knows what changes the Xbox would have, if it would even exist if Microsoft hadn't purchased Bungie and Halo.

When they got Rare, they got Rare's IP's like Battletoads, which is one thing they should be resurrecting, Perfect dark... Banjo Kazooie.
Many of the reputable people from Rare left, anyway, before Microsoft bought them, so I never thought it was a big problem. Sure, Perfect Dark and Banjo kazooie were a big loss, as far as I've heard... they weren't that great...

Re: First Impressions: Yoshi's New Island

Williaint

I have a problem with "Yoshi's Continuity".
It started after/during Yoshi's Story (a fun game, but not very long). The baby Yoshi's were a lot more high pitch, and whiney. This seemed to transform how Adult Yoshi's sounded from that point on. Even worse was the remake of Yoshi's Island for DS. They had to change Yoshi's voice.

The Original Yoshi's Island was fantastic. Original bosses, which didn't always take just 3 hits. And the use of scalable vectors made the environment seem like you were manipulating it. Yoshi's Story just seems flat, in comparison. From what I've seen of this new game, it looks like it's trying to be a bit of both, which doesn't seem that good... Hopefully, It works out well!

Re: EA Outlines Its Reasons for Lack of Wii U Support

Williaint

It goes to show how EA follows the almighty dollar; with them, it's a big popularity contest. None of the games listed are "hard core" It would be great if some other developer successfully used the Frostbite 3 engine, just to prove them wrong...

Re: Iwata: We Are To Blame For Poor Wii U Sales

Williaint

@Fazermint
A $50 difference is not much, when considering a purchase like that. Especially to the "casual" buyer that makes up the largest percent of people buying it. Their news comes from gossip.
@quicksilver88
Great list!

Re: Ubisoft Delayed Rayman Legends On Wii U In Fear Of Low Sales

Williaint

That reason doesn't make any sense; it'd be one of the few titles out there... a lot of people wanted the game... I would have bought it at launch, had it been there!
Even if they released it a bit later, like march... it would have sold well.
Now it's going to sell worse, on Wii U, because of it's Non-exclusivity.
@GamerJunkie
I completely disagree with that last paragraph.

Re: Impressions: The Best Buy "Nintendo Experience"

Williaint

It was GREAT! Mario 3D World is fabulous! Playing as cat-Luigi is real fun!
When I was playing 4 player, the action was quite confusing. I got to play again, and 2 Player was better.
Mario Kart 8 is... GREAT! The problem is playing motion style... It's pretty hard to compete against someone using the G-pad (BTW, if you can hear people honking when you are competitng online, that's going to be pretty annoying).
Windwaker was sweet! It took me a bit to get used to the controls, but after a while it really felt nice!
I didn't get a chance to play DKC:TF, but it looked pretty fun, and I'll probably buy it. I can't wait to Stomp that seal, with Dixie...
It would have been better if they had multiple screens, and the Staff were continually saying "Man, if they had even a small Smash-bros demo, this place would be flooded!" It probably will be, when there are in store demos, close to it's release.
Oh, I got a foam Luigi hat, and a Mario Kart flag. They just gave them out to those who signed up to play. I guess I missed out on the "Luigi coin"

Re: Molyneux: Nintendo Is "Brilliant" At Attracting Players, But Their Hardware "Gets In The Way"

Williaint

@ricklongo
@BestBuck123
@AlexSays
@Akira_1975
Pretty well said! For the most part, I agree with Y'all, and I'd just be repeating what's already been said.

Nintendo's double-edged sword has always been apparent: Nintendo games sell — 3rd party games can't/won't compete (looking for an article, "NintendoLife", that would be a good one, I'll even draw you a double edged sword).

Nintendo had said the Wii U was a very compatible system. Then, people started spewing how underpowered the hardware was. I can't say for certain how powerful it is, how compatible it is, or any truths/mistruths, but gossip tends to spread quickly over the media and facebook games.

You know what I heard? I'm just repeating the cliche messages...

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo E3 Survey

Williaint

Actually, B3ND3R, they probably do have another console and portable in the works. It's unlikely to be shown anytime soon, though.
I loved MK 8, but I had to use the motion controls — very difficult. Mario 3D world was impressively fun. It was kinda awkward with 4 players, though! I didn't get a chance to play DKC, but It looked like a BLAST! I played windwaker HD, and can't wait; It's lookin' great!

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Wii U Lineup Makes Commercial Sense

Williaint

Starting this summer, there will be some great games out there, and not having all the games at once would be, theoretically, good for third parties. Investing in more than one game a month isn't that great a plan — Unless you have a lot of money.
I'm looking forward to Super Mario 3D World! It takes from my favourite Super Mario Games "World, 2, and 64". The Characters look a lot like they are from Super Mario World!

@Peach64
A "proper 3D Mario"? How would you describe that? A single Player game? Able to rotate the camera? Huh... It looks like you can do that in Super Mario 3D World!

@Ernest_The_Crab
Actually, more innovative games don't usually sell more.

@Legromancer
What you just said is just 'schlock'; it's untrue garbage that many 'analysts' are spewing out.

Like Reggie said: "It only matters how YOU feel when YOU play the Game!"
