Re: Review: Mario Party: Island Tour (3DS)

Williaint

@CountWavula I agree, too!
Mario Party 2 is my favourite. Luckily I got it on Wii virtual console. The first wasn't bad.... but there was some much emphasis on rotating the control-stick, you'd burn your hand. I can't remember if I had played 8 or 9. Neither of them were fun. Since I mostly play alone, I'm not interested in this. At all.
Online multiplayer isn't a terrible idea... but it is a lot more fun when it's local, and you can throw a controller at your sister's head, after losing to them.

Re: Soapbox: Super Mario 3D World's Playful Whimsy is Refreshing, But Faces a Vital Commercial Test

Williaint

Over the radio, I heard the "game analyst" compare Knack directly to Mario.
I've tried Ratchet and Clank, but didn't enjoy it. There are a lot of platformers that I don't enjoy. The PS3 exclusives named may be fun, but I'd have to judge how much I'd like them for myself.
Many of the exclusives for XBone will, eventually, be on PC.. I'm not an avid PC gamer, I don't often buy games, but I do, on occasion.
@uel It's like this: "The Kids want to be Teens, cause teens are cool. The Teens want to be 20 somethings, cause they are cool. The 20 somethings want to be cool. The Middle-aged group want to be younger, because their idea of 'cool' isn't 'cool' anymore."
@Artwark Like I've said elsewhere, there is an invisible roof. Sure, games can look better, but there's not really anywhere to go after that... or this.
@triforcepower73 I was a gamecube fan, about that age, and had one or two friends that weren't convinced PS2 and Xbox were the next best things to being god. Many of them just got a PS2 or xbox to play DVDs (which is what I use my roommate's 360 for). I'm not impressed, generally, of Generation teXt. At least you've some open minded-sense.
@Skyward Crowbar The Bestbuy I go to still had Pokemon Y's left (One left after mine) and they hadn't even sold any "dream teams". It's a pretty safe bet I'll be able to get at least ALBW there (I'm hoping to get both that and 3D Mario World, of course). I hope I won't have to wait in a big XBOXONE line...
@unrandomsam For once I can agree with you: I don't like "dumb luck" or easy level building in games.
It used to be about beating someone's high score, now it's about winning achievements. Rayman Legends had a fun score system. For about a day, I had 'most jumps' — at least in my country.
@DestinyMan 'hoooooy! Thanks for adding that.

Re: Poll: As the PS4 Arrives, What Do You Think of the 'New Gen' Environment for Wii U?

Williaint

@MadAussieBloke Thanks for some Benny Hill!

The Wii U may sell the most, it's unlikely, but here's why:
PS4 and XBone — which are frankly more popular, with their advertising being stuffed down every form or media — are splitting the "gamers" up. Splitting up the gamers even more, are their 'subtle' differences between games. Then, of course, there are more people than ever that DON'T buy consoles, and just iPhone/tablet game.
Being in the middle, Wii U has an advantage. like the Wii, more appealing to the middle-class, uninformed, and others. However, these same ignorant-gamers that have no idea that the Wii U isn't just the G-pad

Was PS4's Launch a success? All I have heard is problems with PS4s overheating, and other problems. Sony may have sold out more consoles, but that's probably because they had more in stock.
Yesterday: ME: Did your PS4's Sell out? BEST BUY GUY: Yeah, they were gone within about an hour, I think.
Well, so did the Wii U, but they only had 15 deluxe consoles in stock (No whities).
I wouldn't doubt a few people have mistakenly bought PS3's or Xbox 360's (perhaps again), instead of PS4's...

I'm interested to see whether XBone's launch goes better.

I'm sure that Wii U will gradually grow into a more popular console; within half a year, I'd assume a better result than last year.

Re: Review: Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games (Wii U)

Williaint

@UnseatingKDawg Yes, I've said that before! I wish they would quit making these olympic games. Even a Sonic and Mario RPG would be more welcome.
What others and I have also said, "I'm not a fan of sports-mush games (like Olympics), because they spread the gameplay into smaller pieces of fun. "
SEGA has more potential than this (I think). I love seeing all the characters, but please, SEGA, work with Nintendo on better stuff.

Re: Iwata Braves Press Conference to Explain Nintendo's Earnings

Williaint

@EvisceratorX
That's a good idea. There are a lot of games that would be great on Wii U. Primarily Star Fox, or Metroid (Just because they aren't unannounced)... It was nice to see Kid Icarus return.
I'm not against having the announced Kirby, Mario, Zelda and so-on games released, I'm excited for them! And yes, there have been a lot of Mario games. There are a lot of Spinoffs that are pretty good... I'd love to see a Mario AND Sonic platformer, rather than an "Olympics Sport mosh"... and I bet I'm not the only one.
Back to the err... point these 1st tier franchises are becoming too "Maddenized". There have been several NEW Super Mario games in such a short period of time, it just kind of makes a release less exciting.
I'd love even more to see an Anti-Hero game Starring Wario and Waluigi... and Wario's friends, I suppose... that isn't Wario Ware. I'd love to see a game with Wario able to throw Waluigi around.
Most of all, however, I'd love to see Advance Wars return (Wii U and/or 3DS).

@shuis
I often think of how different the world would have been if the Nintendo Play Station came to fruition.

Re: Iwata Braves Press Conference to Explain Nintendo's Earnings

Williaint

@I-AM-REGGIE They won't have the SAME problem, but they will share different problems: Both are launching almost at the same time. The so called "hardcore gamer" crowd probably won't buy both of those consoles, and so sales will be split on those consoles, and core third party non-exclusives. Another problem is launch titles: Having all those titles launch with a console isn't good. Only the few 'good ones' will cancel out the others (Nintendo's --not only Wii U's — biggest problem, and a reason why competing developers hate competing with them ... this is also why they want them to go "Blackberry"). There will be more errors, no doubt. But they will probably have a more successful launch, than Wii U had.

The "Cult Information Campaign" (Nintendo Direct) that Nintendo has produced hasn't helped those who aren't in the Know. People are still confused about the Wii U, and they haven't really done anything to help. What they need to do is use mockery. Mockery is an excellent tool to get people to change, or want to learn things. Displaying those who don't know anything about Wii U as idiots, or undesirable people.
Nintendo is doing a lot of work, toward those "Indies", but so are it's competition.
Iwata said: "One game has the power to change everything...Are we satisfied with these sales results? No. Is it impossible to recover from this? No." In the past, single games have caused consoles to sell like crazy. He didn't say they had one.
Having Iwata leave probably isn't the best idea. First of all, it's going to make people lose confidence. Second, whoever replaces him could be worse for the company.

Two things I could imagine, in the next 2-3 years: Nintendo adopting SEGA as a 2nd party. The Wii U getting an 'Expansion Pak' type add on.

Re: Nintendo Will Be "Careful" About The Artistic Direction Of Zelda In The Future

Williaint

@jayclayx
What's wrong with ALBW? I think it looks fine...

The problem with LoZ is everyone is indecisive about style... if Nintendo held a test session with about 100000 people from all over the world, and different ages and genders and races... comparing 3 different art style, it would still end up 50/50 (I know, and impossible percentage, but that's the result).
I still think Nintendo should do some sort of polling about such styles.

Re: UK Retailers Break Release Date for Pokémon X & Y

Williaint

Technically, you can legally download the game today, due to the time-zone differences
However, I'm getting retail, as my 3DS lacks the space :/
I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get at least one, as the local Best Buy doesn't seem to have too many Nintendo Fans...

Re: Illegal Nintendo Clones Are Running Rampant On Windows Store

Williaint

@Nintomdo64 It's bad advertising. With cheap ripoffs, I'd imagine more people would be thinking "Why get real stuff, when I can get it free?"

Yeah, the emulators ARE legal, it's just software. The roms aren't. However, If you took away the emulators, then the roms wouldn't be playable.
Shouldn't anything submitted be checked first?

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Catch-22 With Retail Game Pricing

Williaint

I'm not sure why you'd want to pre-order a digital download, it isn't like there is a limited number of them.
@SkywardLink98 If they go too low, people begin thinking the software is too cheap/less quality.
Why are people bringing up the "32GB space problem"? That's a non-issue!
I bought Ocarina of Time 3D at the NY Nintendo store, and it wasn't a lower price.
When I got Windwaker HD online, It was almost $60 Canadian. At least I get bonus points on the Club Nintendo site...

Re: News Site Claims That Zelda "Takes A Dim View Of Workers, People Of Colour And Women"

Williaint

@Mellowkarp : The problem with the writing is the fact that it doesn't offer valid reasons (Other than mentioning nostalgic bias...). Critical examination is great, but the article comes out as sort of pointless, especially with that remark at the end.
Most of the subjects I'm not sure why they are bothered with the "class". Why would you have a game set in a world with imperial rule, but have towns that have a capitalist democracy? It wouldn't make sense — at least not in this game. I'd also like to say, I believe (from the given quotes) the BOSS was more concerned with the laziness of the younger generation, workers or not...
The only reason it's racist is because they want it that way... It's light and dark. What if the Gerudos were green? What if they were pink? Since Ganon has been portrayed as dark, it may ruin continuity. Might as well be judging Star Wars of being racist. Ever see a classic western? Racist, sexist, classist....
The comment, from this guy, makes the author seem less redeeming:

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Could Have Ruled The Micro-Console Market With Wii

Williaint

A micro console would create greater confusion around what the Wii U is.
Since Wii is compatible with Wii U, they might have just gotten rid of the console — or micro console — which would inevitably caused greater sales of the Wii U.
Shouldn't there be some reference to iQue?
I would like to see some "Super 3DS" app from Nintendo. I'd pay for it, even.
I'm not apt to pay for a new '3DS TV', however.
