Re: Nintendo's Strict Policy On MiG Carts Is Creating A Problem For Secondhand Switch 2 Buyers

UsualNoise

FYI - I don't have a MIG cartridge, but I have considered it for my Switch. I'm probably in the minority, but I have never used a flashcart for piracy. I got a couple different varieties of flashcarts for my 3DS back in the day and simply used them to load my large physical cartridge library and have all the games available on the go. I considered doing the same for the Switch (about 100 physical games at this point), but have not yet. While I agree the use of flashcarts may not be something Nintendo likes, it is definitely not a piracy-only device.

For my use case, if Nintendo provided a way to get a digital copy of a physical game it would also solve my problem. For example, with a game inserted you can download the digital version (or copy from the card) and play without the cartridge. Maybe reverification after a certain amount of time like they do for NES / SNES / etc. Switch online use. I know having a large physical collection puts me in the minority around here, but I hate digital (other than convenience) and will never give up my game cards.

Re: Poll: So, Did You Order A Nintendo Switch 2?

UsualNoise

This will be the first console I don't get right away in a while. I loved the Direct, but the pricing (system + game + peripherals), primarily, has put me off for now. I'm sure I'll get one at some point but, like some others, I'll wait for a better price proposition first. If MP4 was only on Switch 2 it might be a different story, but as I can play the only game I care about on my current system I'm just fine for now.

Re: Where To Buy Metroid Prime Remastered On Switch

UsualNoise

Nintendo can't be rewarded for this kind of pricing scheme. Although Metroid Prime is my FAVORITE GAME OF ALL TIME I'm not buying it at $40. The last time I bought the trilogy on Wii U (digital) it was on sale for $9.99. I understand effort went into remastering, but come on Nintendo!

I will wait and see if Walmart sells the physical copy at a discount ... $30 is my absolute maximum for this game despite it's awesomeness and despite it being my most wanted game on Switch. I can still play on Wii U so it's not like I'm hurting for Metroid Prime gameplay.

Re: Nintendo President Says "Most" North American Switch Online Users Have Upgraded To The Expansion Pack

UsualNoise

I've spent more money on Nintendo stuff in my life than I care to admit, and I'm a sucker for their retro games as I grew up with them. Even WITH all that, I have no desire for the expanded plan. Renting my content has never been part of my gaming hobby. I buy or I don't buy. I bought the MK8 expansion because I love Mario Kart and $25 was worth it to me to 'permanently' own. (* until they shut the servers down in 2028 of course)

I would love the convenience of N64 games on the Switch. I don't value that convenience enough to pay for it at the current rates, however. I can play most of them on the Wii U if I really want, and when that system dies it will be emulation. The only way I would be a subscriber to the expansion pass would be if I was included on someone else's plan that paid for it.

I'm glad 'most' find value in the service, but I sure am not one of them. Basic NSO for me, and that's really only for online access.

Re: Can You Name All This Nintendo Hardware?

UsualNoise

I still have all the hardware listed in this quiz (except those 3D glasses) and still only got 10/20. I didn't particularly enjoy the quiz if only because I don't understand why zoomed-in pictures make it fun.

Re: Review: Super Mario 3D All-Stars - Three Of Mario's Greatest Adventures Come To Switch

UsualNoise

@EmirParkreiner - I had the exact same experience. I had to pull up Mario 64 on VC just to confirm I wasn't crazy ... and yes, both Mario 64 and Sunshine have the controls swapped. If it was just the camera it would be bad enough but it's FOR FLUDD'S CONTROL as well in Sunshine. Unplayable is correct - insane that they would botch something this important. Ah well, if this isn't patched I'll just sell it next year for a profit thanks to the limited release. (Glad I went physical.)

If I were reviewing this game it would get a 4/10 as it currently stands. Graphical upgrades are nice, but if the gameplay is completely different from the original what's the point? Giving the option to invert the axis would bring it up to an 8/10.

Re: Guide: How To Fix A Drifting Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

UsualNoise

I can second @wert303b suggestion. I used the process linked above to fix my joysticks and added thin tape afterward to hopefully minimize the chances of happening again. It is NOT a simple thing to do, however, and it helps if you've worked on electronics before (Joy-Cons, iPhones, etc.).

Re: Nintendo Targets Switch Modchip Installation Service In Latest Legal Crackdown

UsualNoise

I haven't seen this mentioned yet so: the online service works great for most backups, but what about the games that it is impossible to back up / incompatible? I, for one, have hacked my Wii U and 3DS specifically to back up save files on my PC and for no other reason. As soon as the Switch has a way to back up ALL save data on a PC I'll jump at the chance - hardmods are just not my thing or I'd attempt this myself.

Re: Rejoice, Soon You'll Be Able To Use Your My Nintendo Gold Points On The Switch eShop

UsualNoise

@jimi - just wanted to chime in here, although I very rarely post, to say I agree with pretty much everything you've said in this thread.

The My Nintendo program is a joke compared to Club Nintendo, and the fact that it discounts digital purchases only is useless for me except for the few indie titles I get.

I also don't understand why anyone is arguing about the devaluation of gold coins. It's pretty clear that is happening as soon as this change goes into effect. Spend any gold coins you have, now, before it happens. When it does they will be almost valueless. My current 150 gold coins will get me a whopping $1.50 off a digital purchase after the change goes through. Whoopee. I'd much rather get a bunch of free digital games NOW for myself or to resell.

Re: Review: Shift DX (3DS eShop)

UsualNoise

Thanks for the review, I was already interested in the game and will likely grab it soon.

One question - I noticed the comment on not being able to use button controls in menus, etc., which is really annoying to me. Any idea why the Super Mario Maker 3DS review didn't mention that fact? It is SUPER annoying to me in that game since you have to grab the stylus constantly when getting medals / playing Super Mario Challenge. I know it's a different reviewer, but it would be nice if control issues like this were always highlighted.

Re: Review: Epic Word Search Collection 2 (3DS eShop)

UsualNoise

@chrisnewman - Cool. I'm a software engineer myself so I get hardware limitations. Hope you can figure something out though. I'd be fine with a fixed character limit for scrolling while dragging, you could make the limit the longest word possible perhaps. Thanks for responding.

Also wanted to mention there's a bug (in the first game at least) where the word list is doubled at certain times, most noticeable when you're straddling two different grids. I can provide a screenshot if you need it.

Re: Review: Epic Word Search Collection 2 (3DS eShop)

UsualNoise

@chrisnewman - I'm nearly complete with the first game, the only (major) control issue for me is not being able to complete a word if it is off the screen. The older CrossworDS and Crosswords Plus allowed you to start a word if it was anywhere on screen and automatically scrolled until finished. If you can implement that it would make the experience SO much more polished! As it stands now if even one letter is off the edge you have to stop highlighting and shift the whole screen with the pad. This is especially frustrating on the entire-screen-length words / phrases.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of My Nintendo and Miitomo?

UsualNoise

@Yorumi - excellent summary. As a physical game purchaser I currently have almost no use for the new My Nintendo program. But I agree, if I do participate in the gold coin stuff it will only be for small purchases that are only available digitally (e.g. some indie stuff). With the cheaper prices available constantly for physical versions (especially through membership programs like Best Buy's Gamer's Club Unlocked) it makes no sense to buy digital just to participate in Nintendo's new rewards program.
