Why can't people realize that not everyone has played this game the first time around. It does look like it's worth taking a look at yet people are being way too harsh on this game; remember that some of us don't own 2 or more consoles.
I would considering picking this game up as I currently do not own a 360 or a PS4 AND I haven't played any game in this series. It won't be a system seller but it does have the potential to attract new fans to the series.
You know...I never got into the Banjo-Kazooie games but from what I've heard and read over the years, it sounds like I missed out. It is always possible to port the older titles to the 3DS as they had already did so with Diddy Kong Racing for the DS....never say never
I remember that Toys R Us sent me promotional material right before they started taking pre-orders for this game. I still have it and it resembled a folder with the words "classified" stamped all over the screens and literature. It pretty much got me to get it when it came out and that game rarely left my N64. Also, I got most of my friends and cousins into that game......LOTS of great memories with this N64 gem
I plan on downloading it for my Wii. But in all honestly, I'm not surprised that it isn't selling as well as it should be. Many people have abandoned WiiWare at this point. The Wii U and the eShop are in full swing now so the only point for people to check out WiiWare is to download the games they never got a chance to play.
Unless the game I'm buying is only released in digital form, I buy physical copies..that's it. I like holding it in front of me (the same goes for my music and movies.) I can't see myself getting everything in digital form only because then I have to backup everything in case I lose it one day.
To this day, I am proud of my collection of NES, SNES, N64, GC, PS, PS2, DS, 3DS, Game Boy, GBC and GBA games (the majority of them are still boxed and have their original manuals.)
Actually, Castlevania II was a pretty good game in the series. It was different from the first game just like Zelda II was different from the first Zelda title. Those of you who played and loved Symphony of the Night should give homage to CV II since it was the first title in the series to bring the exploration and RPG elements.
Actually, the Wily Stages in Mega Man 2 weren't that bad. I liked the first stage for its music and how you had to work your way to the top to be "ambushed" by the flying dragon. The second and third stages had different layouts and interesting bosses (c'mon the Gutsman tank was the last thing you'd expect to encounter.) The infamous fourth stage, however, I would say is the one that lacked a good design (a somewhat barren obstacle course), not enough enemies to shoot and facing the end boss.
it's just my opinion but MM2 is still a great game.
I thought it was a cool idea when part 4 came out but I felt the game design didn't properly implement it so it ended up being more of a chore to charge it up to shoot enemies when it was faster to repeatedly shoot your main weapon to destroy enemies.
I LOVE Mega Man 3. It is my favorite of the series. To me, it tops MM2 because it gave me more of a challenge (even if you play MM2 on hard mode.) I have always felt it was the most balanced game of the six games and gave me the most fun as well. Yes, MM2 is the clear favorite for some of you and that is why the debate of whether 2 or 3 is the best in the series will continue to rage on long after we pass this world lol
I'm definitely getting Mega Man 3 and if I had a Wii U, I would pick up Need for Speed, Lego City Undercover and try out the demo for Monster Hunter 3.
Capcom SHOULD work on releasing the rest of the GB Mega Man games since they are intent on releasing all of the NES titles for the 3DS VC. It's only right AND it's very hard on getting any one of the GB games, let alone if you got the original Game Boy or a Game Boy Advance to play them on. Make it happen, Capcom!! You know you want our $$$$!
The answer is no for me. After all the hype and hoopla for a flash game that was popular at the time and then the promise that it would come to WiiWare was instantly crushed. Sure, you can spread the blame to both the developers and Nintendo but to demand Meat Boy to be in the next Smash game AND hint at suggesting Nintendo license the character while having the most arrogant attitude will NOT get you anywhere. The last time I checked, there definitely WASN't any humor from those demands.
You know what? They needed to breathe new air into this franchise. I LOVED the NES games. I played SC4 on the SNES to death. Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood were excellent titles. The GBA and DS games also were fun to play. Unless Konami does "remakes" ala Castlevania Adventure Rebirth, they needed to CHANGE the formula somewhat because the "Metroidvania" titles were starting to get boring. I had doubts about MoF, even before I tried the demo. I like the demo and now I am considering buying the game.
Some of us love Castlevania games but also wanted to see if Konami can shake it up a bit. Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion (IGN however is a weak, former shadow of what it USED to be and are just as suspect as Gamespot.) If you didn't like how MoF turned out, then that's how you feel. But I give props to Konami and Mercury Stream for trying something new and as always, I will look forward to future Castlevania titles.
@29 Some reviews for the first game trashed it but it went overboard and after playing it single player and online, it was better than I thought it would be. It wasn't perfect but I played it more than Medal of Honor: Heroes 2.
the first Conduit game was actually pretty good. Though it felt like a generic first person alien conspiracy game, it played well and the online multiplayer worked when it wanted to
I never bought the second one because of all the horrible reviews it got.
It's his opinion but you know what? We have opinions too and we should VOICE them to all the developers and publishers who we buy games from. Since when was it so bad to play the single player mode in some of these games, anyway! I like online multiplayer but there are times where i was just want to play.....alone.
@ #4...I'm Ecuadorian so it was interesting to read your post as I didn't think either one of the console systems you mention were that popular over there. Piracy is everywhere and it's not going away unless we all do our part to not support, which isn't as easy as it seems.
yes...yes.....yes! We will all be watching this one and hopefully, the Wii U will not be "dumbed" down and have at least one or two exclusive features (and yes....developers shouldn't feel pressured to model all of their games with the GamePad in mind.)
Well I'm in the U.S. so I STILL have to wait to play the demo. But I'm getting it regardless. I've played all the GBA and DS Castlevania games so...Konami, bring it on!
I haven't picked up ANY of the Lego games (only played the Legos LotR demo on the 3DS.) But this has the GTA/open world feel and I love those kind of games. I need to pick up a Wii U quick as I already have at least 4 games I want to buy as well (plus this one.)
Finally, this game has a release date. I'm wondering how many people will actually download this game or...quite frankly, if they still care to play it. It's been delayed way too many times and I feel it will hurt the sales that it could potentially earn.
@Zemus-DJ Like SMB2, Castlevania 2 was viewed by many as "radically" different from the first one and it was also hard well (well....back then in the 80's.) I wasn't too fond of it at first but i gave it a chance years later and it's really pretty good.
Great article, Damo! I had one of the first NES systems to hit the U.S. back in 1985 and though it works now, about 50 minutes later, it starts blinking. I've thought about ordering the 72-pin replacement but have no idea on how to go about and actually open my NES system. I tried to get the "dog-bone" version but didn't have enough cash at the time.
Interesting fact: when I ordered replacements for my old NES controllers from Nintendo directly, they sent me brand new ones.....the "dog bone" versions lol.
I remember playing this game for the NES at a friend's house over 20 years ago and to this date, I STILL cannot beat it. I'm not sure if I'll get it for my 3DS as I have it for my Wii. Anyone who is looking for an "old school" challenge should pick this up. Also, Castlevania 3 was the BEST one for the NES in my opinion.
I've never played any of the BIT TRIP games. This one looks to be shaping up to be a very good title. Should I bother tracking down BIT TRIP for the Wii???
I downloaded this game two weeks ago. For $2, it's an AMAZING value! Not only does it look good and plays well, but it's fun and challenges you to do the best on each level. I'm presently going through the game as the "damsel" lol
I'm worried about this game will sell. It has taken forever for this game to FINALLY show up on WiiWare. With Wii U out now and the brand new e-shop in full swing (not to mention that people have either forgotten about this game or don't care if it comes out), Retro City Rampage may not sell as much as it can.
I would get it when it's out in January but I wonder how many others would do the same.
If Nintendo doesn't step in to buy THQ's assets, then let Ubisoft do it. Like other people have said already, they aren't as bad as EA, Activision or Capcom.
If Ubisoft pulls it out, I look forward to seeing what they would do with their newly acquired properties.
I loved Goldeneye for the N64 and always had great memories. The updated Wii version does the original justice and I still play it online to this very day. I had high hopes for this title but the 360/PS3 versions got bad reviews and this one didn't turn out any better. I wish the ex Eurocom workers the best of luck.
wow.....at first I thought it was a very dumb move on Nintendo......then I thought that it isn't so crazy.....think about it:
Despite the fact that the regular Wii has online connectivity, a good portion of people who bought it didn't really use it as much either because they didn't know you could stream videos and play games online or just didn't care about it. This would be perfect for those people AND those that still didn't buy a Wii (yes, they are out there somewhere.) But if it ends up not selling as well, it will turn into a collector's item of sorts.
Hell, if it did come out for the Wii, I'd pick it up just to keep it in my closet and show people years later that Nintendo did something as crazy as what was just announced.
So basically, the deluxe bundle is selling out at most locations compared to the basic bundle. But, some areas do have one or the other depending on where you live. It will work out for Nintendo and as long as people look for it, they will eventually find one to buy.
