Re: There's a Sonic Forces Demo on the Japanese eShop, But It Has a Strange Limitation

@thesilverbrick: You sound a lot like other people online who can't seem to get past the early 90's. Sonic Adventure 2 is still as fun now as it was then (as for it's predecessor, that's another story). As for the high-speed gameplay in Unleashed onward, I really don't see how that's mediocre. There's still plenty of different pathways and secrets, it's just 3D mixed with 2D. I'm only being as "realistic" as you are here; it's just that I happen to enjoy it more than you, without it having to be nostalgia related.

I'm about the only one in my circle of friends who actively uses the 3D. Granted, a couple games I don't even bother with (New Super Mario Bros. 2 because it just blurs the background and makes the models stand out, and Hyrule Warriors Legends because it drops the framerate, for example), but I love it in several titles. The aforementioned Super Mario 3D Land, Kid Icarus Uprising, Luigi's Mansion. Same with Super Smash Bros., Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, Mario Kart 7, Metroid: Samus Returns and a bunch more. I was bummed out to see the Superstar Saga remake get the 2D only treatment. But hey, technology marches on. I just wish they'd do full support until the very end.

Due to how they handled this year (avoiding the elephant in the room at E3, delaying some packs), I'd say it was pretty clear they were wrapping it up this year. It's kind of a shame too. Although quite buggy, it's the best LEGO game I've played in years. Heck, even if they were to do a release on Switch that would follow traditional rules (unlocking the characters yourself) I'd probably snap it up real quick.

@meleebrawler: I have a tendency to keep forgetting that little tidbit.

I'm not going to lie, Mania is the best Sonic game I've played since Generations - I'll go as far to say it's what Sonic 4 should've been. It's just that I've really been looking forward to Forces. I love the boost gameplay they've had since Unleashed. The sense of speed, the umpteen number of paths and shortcuts to take, the exhilaration of dodging a spike or pit at the last second while running at Mach 5. I'm also willing to give the custom character thing a go too. Not to mention this is the first time in over a decade that we can play as Shadow in a main-series title again. Guess some people just don't see it the same way.
