Re: Bowser Defends $70 Zelda Pricing, Nintendo Still "Very Bullish" About Switch

UnseatingKDawg

@Corvus96 When I mean those $10, I mean in general. Nintendo may have given their devs a wage increase, but are the ones who work on the games for Xbox and Sony (especially third party) getting that as well? As for $70 not being new, I'm not talking about the games of yesteryear, I'm talking about the games being released with this generation (and in US dollars, sorry if that caused confusion). Outside of sports games and some collector's editions/bonus editions/whatever editions I haven't seen as many games start making the jump to $70 until last year or shortly beforehand. As for Metroid, I would say that example doesn't count since it's a remaster, and remasters (as opposed to full remakes) tend to sell for $30-40 anyway. What I'm getting at is gradually more and more games are going to be $70 standard - Sony and Microsoft have both admitted that's their plans going forward, and I don't doubt Nintendo is too far behind on that. I know games these days take a lot more for people to develop and put together, but when a good chunk of games are being released with a significant number of bugs in them and/or microtransactions/battle passes/what have you included with them, asking for $70 out the front gate is a hard pill to swallow. And again, for all I know Tears of the Kingdom may just be passing the cost of the larger memory cartridges onto the customer. And I'm probably still going to get it since I've been waiting for this sequel since it was announced, and I'm impressed by what the trailers have shown off so far. I'm just leery about the whole "case by case" thing, and not much is stopping them from just deciding every "case" going forward needs a $70 price tag.

"Case by case basis" until every case is suddenly $70. Without the crappy justification of having newer hardware like the competitors use. With the amount of profit these companies have made in the past few years, as well as microtransactions and DLC packs being in every other game, them trying to justify games needing to be $70 going forward is a hard pill to swallow. And I seriously doubt that extra $10 is going towards the developers' checks.

Then again with this game's case it's supposedly passing the cost of the larger memory game cards onto the customer. Which is still kinda crappy considering they know darn well this game is going to sell insanely well but hey I don't make the games I just play them so what do I know?

Re: Nintendo: $70 USD Won't Be A Trend, Games Priced On "Case-By-Case Basis"

UnseatingKDawg

"Case by case basis" until there are more "cases" that are deemed to be $70. I don't believe what they're trying to say here; I really think it's them testing the waters to see if they can charge $10 more per title going forward. Probably figuring "well Sony and Microsoft are doing it, so I guess we can toss our hat into that ring". And we all know that extra $10 ain't going to the developers.

Then again, maybe they're just taking advantage of the Zelda hype again. Breath of the Wild had the new standard amiibo price, Skyward Sword HD had special Joy-Cons and a single amiibo sold at a premium even though it was the same size as any other Zelda amiibo (speaking of I wouldn't doubt if that sick-looking new Link amiibo is going to be sold at a premium too). Time will tell I guess.

As much as I dislike Epic and would love to see their lifeline be obliterated, the parents are at fault here. If the kids don't want to listen, then it's time to turn the console off, unplug it and hide it if you have to. If I was told to turn it off when I was a kid I did so (even if I did argue a little I knew when to fold 'em). These kids today (not all of them mind you) just aren't parented.

Re: Soapbox: The Steam Deck And The Switch Aren't Rivals, They're Siblings

UnseatingKDawg

I've had my Steam Deck for several months and I will say that it hasn't replaced my Switch. I still get new Switch games strictly for the Switch itself. The Deck does require a lot more patience and tinkering, especially if you're new to Linux like I was. Took me about a solid week until my Deck was set up for the most part (installed my own PC games and I've also set up emulation on it), and there are still times that I need/want to tinker. It's not necessarily a bad thing - it's interesting to find out how everything works and it's awesome when you change only one or two settings for it to work wonders.

That said the Deck does offer quite a bit of what I don't have on the Switch (as I haven't hacked my Switch and don't plan to). I can play plenty of my favorites already on my Steam account - Fallout 3, New Vegas, 4, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 (with mods no less), some older PC games from when I was a kid like Spider-Man 3, Web of Shadows, Shrek 2, so on so forth. I can play my GameCube, Wii, and 3DS games I ripped using my modded Wii and 3DS, and for the most part they work like a charm. But on the other hand it's also one solid unit, and I tend to have issues when trying to connect it to a TV with a controller (usually hit or miss with my experience). Both handhelds have their ups and downs, but yeah at the end of the day I don't see one replacing the other.

Re: New Limited-Time Pokémon Sword And Shield Distribution Announced (North America)

Well, this wouldn't have been a problem since my local GameStop was only 15 minutes away. Buuuut since they've closed down earlier this year that means the nearest one is 45 minutes away and they have a bunch of creeps working at that one, so I guess I'm sitting this one out. Not to mention they probably would want me to buy something instead of just handing out the code.

Gotta agree, this "travel to the store to maybe get something" crap is outdated. Just do online promotions period.

Re: Sega CO Takashi Iizuka Expresses Interest In A New Sonic Adventure Game

UnseatingKDawg

I think another thing people don't realize is that these games (and Sonic games in general) aren't meant to be instantly beatable. They're based more on you learning how the characters work and bettering and honing your skills to get the fastest time and highest score possible. Much like arcade games, which SEGA specializes in. I know I didn't 100% these two games that easily; they take time to learn and master and people these days don't want to do that. That I understand since there's a lot of games out there to be played, but playing a level or two and then saying the game sucks since you're not an expert at it after trying it once just shows you're not willing to learn. That could be applied to pretty much any video game to any demographic.

This isn't meant to be targeted towards anyone, but I am so sick and tired of people crapping on these two games and making general assumptions on them (i.e., "only Sonic/Shadow has speed/momentum gameplay", "no-one likes treasure hunting"). I know they're not perfect by any means (facial expressions, voice acting, fishing, etc.), but they're not nearly as bad as people make them out to be.

So yeah, if they make a Sonic Adventure 3 that brings back multiple playable characters with different playstyles (without fishing), a few Chao Gardens, some open areas to explore and toy around with and ironed-out kinks I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Re: Sega CO Takashi Iizuka Expresses Interest In A New Sonic Adventure Game

A lot of people tend to either forget or not pay attention that the vast majority of gameplay in Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were based on building up speed and retaining momentum.

Adventure 1:
Sonic - the most obvious one, especially with his rolling and spindash
Tails - his gameplay is purely racing. You have to build up and maintain speed to keep ahead of Sonic/Eggman.
Knuckles - while his is built more around exploration, he still has momentum when running, gliding and rolling down slopes. You need to be fast to get to the emerald shards for his A missions, even with the restart trick.
Amy - while being slow on the ground, her gameplay is still based on building up speed and maintaining momentum. It's just that instead of running all the time you're using the hammer jump to pull off big jumps and maintain air control, which in this game is pretty easy
Big - he is not part of the vast majority; I will whole-heartedly admit his gameplay sucks and shouldn't have been part of the game
Gamma - considering his levels operate on a countdown that gets refilled by blowing up multiple enemies, that requires you to build up speed and maintain it if you want to finish the level in good time

Adventure 2:
Sonic and Shadow - again, the most obvious due to all the tricks you can pull off, like rail-grinding, spindashing, lightspeed dashing, chaining homing attacks, etc.
Tails and Eggman - while they are slower than gamma, they still do have a degree of momentum behind them that can be maintained once you master the levels' setup. They're just slow at acceleration (which can be helped once you get the hover upgrade).
Knuckles and Rouge - Once you get the locations of the emerald shards down-pat (at least going by one hint monitor) these levels are shorter than Sonic and Shadow's, barring Space Colony ARK's stages. While they don't roll around, they can still keep pace moving through the levels quickly by a decently fast running and gliding speed, which is required for an A-rank (faster time between gems = more bonus points, and going by one hint monitor each doesn't offset that by much). I will admit that limiting the radar to one piece at a time was a dumb decision though.

As for the cameras, I'll admit they could've used more work. All the same, quite a few 3D games from that era and before it didn't have an excellent camera either, so I'm willing to look past that.

Re: Feature: How Limited Run's New Engine Respects The Legacy Of Classic Games

I've spent more than enough money on these guys - their shipping has gotten worse to the point that some of my stuff had damage on arrival (not to the point of me sending it back since I open my stuff anyway and have no intention of reselling) and the fact that they had to fix two of my orders due to not sending everything. Not to mention they take forever and a day to send everything to you. I'm at least glad my last two items (the Doom Classic Collection and a Rottytops plush) came in just fine.

Re: Nintendo Won't Have Any More Switch Online N64 Controllers Until 2022 (North America)

UnseatingKDawg

@XBontendo Yeah, you need to subscribe to the $20 base at least to access the controllers. What I was getting at was you should've had to get the $30 expansion to get access to the N64 controllers. Not the best choice for everyone, but at least it would deter scalpers a bit. Because let's face it, you get a $35 family plan for 8 accounts, have 8 set up on a Switch and buy 4 per account, then boom 40 of them to resell. I might be coming off with some sour grapes over not getting one, but I definitely see that scenario as a possibility.

Re: Nintendo Won't Have Any More Switch Online N64 Controllers Until 2022 (North America)

UnseatingKDawg

@XBontendo: Oh I'm subscribed, and I was checking daily multiple times per day since launch. The numbers I've seen on Ebay definitely point to scalpers, especially since you don't need to subscribe to the expansion pack to get the controller. Which is dumb since they're predominantly designed for the games you can only get in the expansion pack. So I'm just going to have to wait until 2022 to get one.

Re: Nintendo Aware Of Crash Error "Near The End" Of Metroid Dread, Says It's Working On A Fix

UnseatingKDawg

I read about the timing thing with the E.M.M.I.s, and it's mainly because they REALLY don't want you to exploit stunning them. They make it a point to tell you that stunning them is a last resort, and they intentionally throw off the timing so you don't get too complacent and try stunning them as a strategy. Not everyone's cup of tea, I know, but it works to emphasize that you need to run from these things instead of engage. Some of the later ones got annoying, but they do give you multiple routes to escape. Personally I enjoyed the thrill of running from those things; made it more satisfying when I got to blast them with the Omega Beams.
