Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Switch Turns 3: Challenges Await, But What A Ride So Far

Unit_DTH

I got my switch day one and it is still my go to console. With kids, family, owning and running my own business and all manner of other things that limit "game time"; its "on the go or at home" playability has proven the best thing for my gaming desires.
I have fixed more joy cons than I care to mention, but that isn't terrible. I really just want MP4 at this point!

Re: Pokémon Clone Temtem Is So Successful Its Servers Are Crumbling Under Demand

Unit_DTH

@Yorumi I hope that temtem doesn't turn trashbags and keyrings into monsters, that move by GF literally made my head hurt.
It is hard for me to get excited to see a chandelier as a "Monster" or a teacup, or anything of that ilk... they just seem unimaginative about some of their design choices and I want to see pkmn become something better at this point. Healthy competition is needed. You can't remain on top by pandering and not evolving.

Re: Pokémon Clone Temtem Is So Successful Its Servers Are Crumbling Under Demand

Unit_DTH

@Yorumi I actually didn't bring up "backwards compatibility" I brought up "forward compatibility" and I'm no expert.
I haven't really noticed any performance issues with my copy of Sword, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough? You are obviously very passionately against the most recent pokemon games and I understand that, they have been extremely divisive, but I am enjoying them so far. Would I have liked the whole game to be more polished? Yes, the textures in places look like something from an N64, but it hasn't affected my enjoyment of the title.

I respect your opinion and the myriad of other fans that hold a similar and same opinion, but I am still enjoying the game for what it is... a new addition to a franchise I've enjoyed for years.

Re: Pokémon Clone Temtem Is So Successful Its Servers Are Crumbling Under Demand

Unit_DTH

@Yorumi surely, as a game dev with 10 years experience, you can understand the reasoning behind either cutting parts, or just delaying them? When making a game, even if you are a AAA studio, you are still a slave to factors such as money, hardware constraints, time constraints and creative reasoning about what a title needs and does not need. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I've only made a handful of small games and I've done it by myself, but I also have been disappointed by what I could and could not include in my titles, so the disappointment for the developers as well as the fans is present in every aspect of game dev.

Re: Pokémon Clone Temtem Is So Successful Its Servers Are Crumbling Under Demand

Unit_DTH

@Yorumi Actually it references even bringing already made models to new hardware and the differences that would inevitably be present, it never said it was impossible, just a task that might be hindered by time constraints and initial funding given to the title. I never said they didn't have the money for it, but perhaps didn't have the money for it to be done within the time constraints that were set forth by Nintendo's release schedule for the game. I don't really give a care about whether or not the nationaldex is in any pkmn game going forward, but that's just my opinion.

Re: Pokémon Clone Temtem Is So Successful Its Servers Are Crumbling Under Demand

Unit_DTH

@Aeleron0X Loved the article! Thanks for sharing. I knew that there was a ton of work put into the nationaldex, but after reading the amount of work for each pkmn I understand why they made the decision not to include it. Also, they could have just not had enough time and money to add all of the nationaldex before release, so they will be releasing it in parts via DLC stories and areas.

Re: Talking Point: How Often Do You Make The 'Switch Sacrifice'?

Unit_DTH

I would love to touch on the "Switch tax" as it is being called. I find it funny that we will all pay upwards of $70 for games, new on certain platforms, but start to gripe when they ask a price similar to that for the game on the switch. I don't feel like it is a "Tax" but having to account for the cost of releasing a game physically and porting it to a console that some people might prefer to play on. If you don't want it on Switch, don't buy it...but please, don't harrass the developers and publishers for trying to amertize the cost of bringing it to another group of gamers that may not have played it before on another console.

Re: Talking Point: How Often Do You Make The 'Switch Sacrifice'?

Unit_DTH

I find myself with less and less time to sit on the couch in front of my PS4/XB1 or even in front of my PC just to play a game. The portability is a huge part for me! Games that I know will never appear on the Switch, I get on the PS4, but for the most part my "Home" consoles gather dust. If the "Switch Pro" version of the hardware launches in the future then I can confidently say that I will most likely not be playing much of my other consoles at all, but this is just my opinion and preference. I have double dipped on almost every game that has been released by third parties and I look forward to all of the wonderful new games that keep coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch console.

Re: Pokémon Fans Get '#GameFreakLied' Trending As Sword And Shield Drama Intensifies Yet Again

Unit_DTH

@Mr_Muscle lmao... my "too high horse", probably wanna learn those old adages and how they are worded. I wasn't shrieking, I was stating my opinion, again "MY OPINION" not anyone else's, about those that are shrieking and about the fact that this, ultimately, is an argument over assets of a video game and people complaining about something that should not impact their day to day lives enough to garner this kind of animosity. These are games meant to be enjoyed by all people regardless of whether or not they are reusing old assets, or just updating them. Have we gotten so off course that we can't just be excited to play a new game? Or do we all have to be so overly opinionated that companies disdain even bringing a new game to market?
I wasn't trying to add to the din of the internet's shriek, but whenever anyone posts online that is what it becomes. Oh well. Have a nice day!

Re: Pokémon Fans Get '#GameFreakLied' Trending As Sword And Shield Drama Intensifies Yet Again

Unit_DTH

Interesting that me, as a pkmn fan and player from day one, gives not a sh** about there being no national pokedex in this game, nor do I care that the models aren't all "brand-new-rebuilt-from-the-ground-up-with-that-new-pokemon-smell". These seem like trivial things to be whining about! Is this not a game built for ppl to play and have fun with? Or is this some socio-political device that all of the video game SJWs need to complain about? Get over it and play, or don't play, the game... in the end your internet screeching will hold little to no sway over the final product.

Re: Studio Behind The Hit VR Game Beat Saber Shows Interest In Developing For Switch

Unit_DTH

@Glassneedles First off... 360 Mode?!?!?! I'm slacking on keeping up with what that is and now I must find out more! Next, they could do the control of the sabers fairly simply, using a relational space pointer setup akin to world of goo for switch. I agree that the translation of it outside of vr would deteriorate the experience though. That game is made entirely for vr, but there are a few games that are VR games that made the transition to switch and work really well. Honestly, it is up to the talent of the developer as to whether or not they could make their game transition from vr to switch.

Re: And Just Like That, Fortnite Is No More

Unit_DTH

Honestly, Good riddance to bad rubbish... never really enjoyed the game at all and boy did I give it the old college try, it's just tiresome being back killed by 12 year olds and youtubers that only play this game. Makes it less fun for any newcomer. Maybe something new and fun will come out of this. To all those that enjoyed the game, I hope that you find another game to enjoy just as much!

Re: Random: Nintendo's Latest Firmware Update For Switch Removed A Neat Effect

Unit_DTH

This seems like they were trying to fix the issue with the Switch Lite and accidentally messed up the Switch Reg firmware, or maybe there really isn't any dilleniation in the OS that allows the firmware to use one feature for the Switch Reg and one for the Lite, other than no docked mode gameplay? I did notice this cool little feature from day one, but honestly... it isn't all that needed.

Re: Guide: How To Share Games And Saves Across A Nintendo Switch And Switch Lite

Unit_DTH

@JayJ Perhaps I wasn't clear in what I said. If you have both a Regular Switch and a Switch Lite, then (since it is designed entirely for portability) make the Lite your primary and the Classic Switch to your non-primary since it could be your "Home Console" and would always have an internet connection.

Also, constantly switching which console is your primary is a pain and should never be the case in this situation. Nintendo is doing some backwards stuff, but they do enjoy keeping archaic unintuitive systems in place for their online offerings.

Re: Guide: How To Share Games And Saves Across A Nintendo Switch And Switch Lite

Unit_DTH

@Jeaz The sad thing is that I have my kids setup this same way that you are talking about, but they cannot play any of the digital games I have bought for my user on their profiles on their Nintendo Switch™ consoles from their user profiles. I must setup my profile on each of their consoles, then download whatever digital games they want to be able to play, then they have to use my profile to play the games bought with my account. Kinda dumb, since it isn't really family sharing.

Re: Guide: How To Share Games And Saves Across A Nintendo Switch And Switch Lite

Unit_DTH

@JayJ I agree that they should change their policy, but I stated it is an easy work-around for those that decide to have both models in their household and also stated that they need to change their policy.
If you read the fine print on EULAs, you don't own anything that you purchase digitally, so "not owning" the digital games on your "home console" switch really means nothing at this point.

Re: Guide: How To Share Games And Saves Across A Nintendo Switch And Switch Lite

Unit_DTH

Honestly, it's not the best way to play, but if you do want to make the "old" switch into your home console and use the Lite as your primary portable, then changing the Lite to Primary, as stated above, is the best option. In this day and age the chance of your "home" console not having internet connection is a lot smaller than the chance of you not having internet 'on-the-go'. Yes, you can use your phone as a hotspot or coffee shops have wifi, but honestly if I'm using mine on the go, I'm not sitting in a coffee shop but on an airplane, in a car, etc., not sitting in a wifi ready area. Nintendo needs to improve on this and remove the "always online" issue for the same profile on two separate consoles, but until then, this is a manageable work-around.

Re: Quirky Switch Shooter Morphies Law Returns With New Maps, Modes, Servers And More

Unit_DTH

This game was fun, but the community was DOA and never got big on Switch, maybe PC had better luck in that regard. I think that the only thing this game is/was missing, on switch, is local Multiplayer.
I was honestly expecting that from the start, but it has still never come to pass. Oh well, I'll try it again, but doubt the community will actually be there this time around either, which is a pity, because the game is fun.

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Want Achievements On Switch?

Unit_DTH

"They’re not particularly developer-friendly, either. Microsoft’s mandate that all games were required to include unlockable achievements created extra work for game devs, and its easy to understand why so many take the uninspired form of ‘You completed Level 3!’ or ‘You jumped 10,000 times!’ It’s another layer of work added to each platform the game releases on, and while it’s often easy to track certain player stats and actions (especially on modern platforms), it can be more difficult for smaller indies already crunching to get the game running and not wanting to tack on a bunch of dull, token achievements after they've worked so hard on the core game. Being creative takes time and the best great achievements are imaginative and playful."

Most Game Engines have a built-in, or easily integrated, achievement creation system for them already and Unity, Unreal Engine, et. al. are no exception to this. Once Nintendo provides the achievement prerequisites in their SDK then integrating them is usually not that hard. The above statement that I quoted is based on a concept that indies are lazy and wouldn't be imaginative in naming or creating their achievements. I would love to see an integrated Achievement system, but I've wanted that since the Wii.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Service Had A "Good" Launch, Focus Will Now Shift To Boosting Its Appeal

Unit_DTH

@Mallow I've enjoyed your comments so far, as they are terribly dry and well written, just as I like them. Keep it up, but also understand that this is a forum where fans weigh in on a company that they, basically, keep in business. In this case these comments are like a town hall that, if they wanted to, Nintendo could come to read through and possibly see where they could improve or need to improve. Doubtful that many of us (including yourself and that dry wit of yours) contemplate the financials of a game company at any other time than when the company announces something regarding one of their services as it pertains to paying customers. The service - as it stands right now - is lacking. Everyone cannot be pleased all the time and the internet does give the whiniest of ppl the loudest shriek, no need to berate them.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Service Had A "Good" Launch, Focus Will Now Shift To Boosting Its Appeal

Unit_DTH

Honestly, there is so little that it is offering as a subscription service. The retro games they give us are not the best (kinda wonder who was the person deciding which titles should be in that launch lineup)
and certainly not the ones that make me harken back to joyful childhood memories on my NES. NO VOICECHAT ON THE CONSOLE!! What?!?! Why wouldn't you allow that, hell they do it on Fortnite without any stupid phone app?! Next, why are there no achievments? Nothing even like achievements on the switch. Anybody else remember when the PS3 retrofitted many games with achievements? I do. It would be nice to have something like stars that relate to achievements, but no, we get to pay to play a few games online and use our phone to chat if we wanna play online and then, we can only chat in a private party with people we know or have on our friend list, can't just jump into a match and coordinate with strangers... god forbid we could talk to strangers. It honestly feels like Nintendo is like a helicopter parent watching their children use the internet for the first time in the 90's and are worried about them meeting a stranger and getting kidnapped! I love my Switch, play it more than my other consoles and PC, but their policies and over-bearance is just a bit on the "Crazy Mom" side.

Edit: I should note that I do have a subscription to NintendoOnline and a family one at that, so I am a paying customer speaking my mind.

Re: Soapbox: Why I'm Not Excited About Playing NES Games On The Nintendo Switch

Unit_DTH

Honestly, I'm fine with these games. Yes, they have been re-released time and again, but I'm alright with it, doubt I will sink that much time into them anyway. What I would like to see for the Nintendo Online service is some type of achievement system akin to XBL and PSN. Why can't we get something like that? Seems kind of like a no-brainer at this point. Hell, even different games on the switch already have achievements in them and logs for those achievements. Come on Nintendo.

Re: Review: Draw 2 Survive (Wii U eShop)

Unit_DTH

@gcunit I can totally understand the draw of those art styles. I have a great admiration for the talent behind the art in those games and thank you for the kind interaction! Thank you as well for the kind words.

Re: Review: Draw 2 Survive (Wii U eShop)

Unit_DTH

@gcunit - If you aren't playing the game how do you know that it has copied the mechanic from the Kirby games, but "...not so well."
The mechanic is sound and the game is not supposed to move slowly, so it's similarity to Kirby stops at the ball moving in the direction of the drawn lines. Please find me on twitter and I will try to get you a free copy to test it for yourself. I'm happy to give you a chance to play the game and then decide how well it uses the mechanics for yourself. I'm not really upset about your comment, I just want to give you the chance to try it and dis it based on playing it. @Unit_DTH_Studio

Re: Review: Draw 2 Survive (Wii U eShop)

Unit_DTH

Tim - Thank you for reviewing the current build of the game, I was expecting this score for the amount of content currently available and that is fine with me for right now. This review is just great incentive to continue to expand and build on the game and give the players what they would like to have in this title.

@Lemonslice - Interesting that you should say that about the art, since two of the levels themes and full design are based entirely off of artwork by my oldest child and one of my nephews, 10 and 16 repspectively. The rest have been digitally painted in PS and reduced to accommodate the console's abilities. Thank you for reading the review and commenting on it. Have a great day!

Re: Monochroma For Wii U Scrapped Due To Technical Issues

Unit_DTH

@Quorthon "People need to be smarter and not run their lives (and mouths) with thoughtless knee-jerk reactions and black-and-white sentiments towards things like Kickstarter. No matter where you're investing or donating money, there is always an element of risk. Being afraid of that is why people here--so readily dismissing Kickstarter--will never make money on the Stock Market. Because they seem to fear risk so completely. The smarter way to do this is to do your research and balance the risk vs reward and chances of success."

I agree with you. I have backed quite a few KS titles, some didn't make it, but the ones that did are still coming along nicely and I'm sure they will be enjoyable experiences.
