If I hurt myself on the way in to work, then start having complications from my injury (acquired outside of work) my expectation would not be for the company to just take care of my medical needs. Now if they were hurt on the job, that is a very different story. This industry is rife with this type of treatment, but most of this article seems to be just moaning about not getting FT treatment when you are hired as a temp, through a temp agency. Nintendo is well over a 100 years old, does anyone think that this is REALLY the worst thing that they have done or will do moving forward? I certainly hope that nobody is that naive.
@Rambler I have 3 children and when my first two were born, my wife got a full 3 months of paid mat leave and I got 4 weeks of paid pat leave... I'm sure that isn't the case across the board, but it gives you a good idea that this isn't the problem that you are presenting it as. My 3rd child is adopted, so no mat leave for that.
@Kainbrightside I, like you, got the Wii U on released day and loved it. But I don't think that there is the level of nostalgia for the Wii U like there is for the NES, SNES, etc. I would have loved to see the console thrive, but I still firmly believe that the naming convention for it killed it before it's release.
His main reason for this is most likely that Wii U developers, and there were a lot of them, have yet to be granted access to the Switch development tools just because they developed for the Wii U. Nintendo seems to have gone back to their old stringent, for the better (maybe), developer acceptance policies. Since he is already an approved Wii U developer he is really working hard to try and make it, so that maybe Nintendo will allow him a switch developer agreement and he can make some money to continue his passion... at least that is the way it seems to me. Best of luck to the fella!
@PtM You are defining those items for a much more in depth system than the one that Nintendo has implemented. They have given us "folders" with a new name. There are no notable subset divisions within these "groups" that we can make, at least not yet. My comment referred exclusively to the New Groups addition to the Switch OS.
That may have sounded like me complaining, but it is really me just being realistic about the update that we just got. It is an improvement, I am looking forward to more improvements as well.
@Olmectron It really wasn't the Wara wara plaza that made the menu loading slow on Wii U, I have a devkit so I'm speaking from experience, it was the plethora of bloated functions that they began streamlining too late in the Wii U's life... but I think that when they released the "Wii" U, it was already too late due to poor naming conventions. They could easily implement folders akin to both Wii U and DS, but Nintendo wants to be "unique" and make it distinctly their own and not a copy of a previous generation's UI. This hinders them greatly and gives the end-user an experience that can feel lacking. I'm glad we have groups, but folders would be better and easy access to them even better than that.
@Jax1988 my statement was entirely about my personal preference of what I want the games to be like in order for me to invest time, or money into them going forward. I've played them all, with the exception of ultra sun and moon. So my preference is based on seeing arceus progress the franchise and your whiney little incoherent retort to my statement of preference is childish. My preference isn't yours, so what? You buy what you wanna play and I'll buy what I wanna play, plain and simple. My preference should in no way make you this visibly aggrevated. "How do I make this not sound like I'm belittling his preference? I know start off with laughing emojis." Enjoy your dedication to the now very stagnant feel of Pokémon's original way of having random encounters, tedious time-consuming transitions into battles, and the plethora of things that have been made more enjoyable due to the updates brought about in Arceus. I will continue to enjoy new features being brought to the franchise that makes it feel new and relevant, you know... how the final fantasy games progress how their battle systems and encounters work from title to title.
@SwitchForce In what way am I being a troll? I genuinely laughed at the comment that I replied to. It was the best comment I've seen on here in a while. The Wii U, which I just happed to develop and release a game on, was a mess and the naming convention destroyed any and all chances of it's success. So, please, elaborate on my Troll-ness.
@Zimon I'm with you on this. Gone are the days of me "enjoying" random encounters and Arceus did away with those in a very tactful way. Hopefully, this will remain in effect for these games as well.
I'm going to be brutally honest here... those starters look like they were stolen directly from the early-mid 90's after school (USA) cartoon lineup. You can't tell me that those aren't taken straight outta the Disney™ afternoon lineup on the non-cable channels. The alligatordile could very well be from some guest appearance on TMNT in the 90's. That duck I have seen on old episodes of DuckTales™ for sure! That cat was from the Batman™ cartoon series as one of catwoman's minions. Weak! But I still wanna play the game as long as it isn't as bleak as the landscape from Arceus.
While this is really cool, I am not holding my breath to hear anything about Prime 4 until mid-late this year... if at all. The unbridled set backs to this project have made me, justifiably, skeptical and guarded. Don't mistake what I'm saying as negativity, just that I want so badly to see something more than a logo about this title, or even an HD release of the original 3 + Hunters on Switch. We can dream, can't we?
@johnvboy I'm pretty sure that they just announced that it has outsold the Wii... so, with the exception of the DS Family and the Gameboy Family, the switch is their best selling home console to date. What a fantastic Direct! I have been wanting Mario Strikers to come back from the dead and I am not disappointed!
I hope that most everyone found something fun in that Direct!
@Snatcher It is only as open world as the original Monster hunter games and MH Rise. Open biomes, not a fully open world, where you take on missions. More open world than any of the others, but still... not truly open world.
The only thing that the splatoon franchise has completely let me down on is the lack of LOCAL multiplayer. Almost every killer Nintendo title and franchise allows for multiplayer with friends/family in the same room, barring just a few that I can think of and Splatoon 2 is in that short list. I want to be able to play with my kids and my friends locally on a big-screen tv without the whole local wireless setup, which isn't very intuitive or inviting. Splatoon 1 had a two player setup for local, but it was dismal and felt like no effort was put into it... especially with the nonsensical, "use rubber bands like this with a pro controller and a wiimote for the second player's controller". I love the games, love the franchise and can't wait to play it, but I would be absolutely elated to see a local mp option, using one game card.
This is why we keep our eyes toward the Indie scene. Stifling creativity is the bread and butter of these massive publishers. Interesting that once bioware was bought by EA the same type of thing happened, even after the founders said they weren't gonna leave... problems abound.
@HenHiro wow, I think you missed the point of my post. It isn't a spoiler if it is just a remaster of an old game, at least not for those that have played it in its original form. And nothing about traditional pokemon games is ever really that shocking... They all follow a set path and direction.
Seriously! Trubbish and Garbadore are not on the negative comments side!! I am shocked. Those pokemon and their lazy designs are exactly what they are... trash.
While I understand not wanting to see spoilers, if you have never played these games on the DS, is there anything really shocking about the stories, plots, monsters, or anything that people would consider "spoilers"? I mean, your a child, you know a professor who studies pokemon, you have a rival/friend that you will battle at strategic places throughout the game, the professor wants you to collect data on pokemon which will turn into vying to be the greatest pokemon trainer to ever defeat the elite four+1, roll credits, continue playing game to collect more pokemon and do assorted other things... did I miss anything?? I mean really, what spoilers? "I don't wanna know which legendary pokemon you can catch!" Then definitely don't look at the GD cases for each game, because they certainly don't show you which one goes with which game. Seriously, if you don't want spoilers then definitely don't read any reviews of the original DS release for these games.
In other, less ranting, news... I hope everyone that plays these remakes enjoys them! I did when they originally came out and I hope I do again.
Here's a prediction: Switch will continue as their flagship handheld brand and will continue to make revisions. They will also, by 2025, have a new home console that they release that will most likely be a stand alone, but have switch connectivity.
@NintendoKnight Yes, you do know there is something wrong and they might finally have realized that and are investing enough time and money to perhaps fix the atrocity that has been their online offerings, maybe even add something as simple as... Voice Chat.
Zangief Tarantino is definitely the best one for me. LMAO The eyes and those sideburns... wtf, oh wait that's a mullet, it turned his beard into a mullet, not sideburns.
Interesting that all the legendaries, well most of them... don't have a gender and are un-breed-able. Kinda seems like they are either asexual or non-binary already. Also, if you can't play a game because your "gender preference" isn't represented in it then you have much larger issues to deal with.
Wow, why did they even list federation force? That was a metroid game in name only. Hard pass on that one and I'm a die hard metroid fan. Maybe even one of the only people that enjoyed Other M.
@everynowandben Yeah, this is a somewhat annoying issue since I am often in fairly rural areas with spotty internet. Maybe they will allow download of some sort in the future, but I'm not holding my breath.
I have a duo, have since last year's release. It is definitely a 1st gen device, lots of issues until after the first 2 updates, still has issue at about 4-6 updates (OS updates). Lots of neat features, especially using a surface pen and now this game pass feature (streaming only) is a nice addition, but honestly... really not worth the price in it's current state, worst phone camera in any current market phone that I have ever used. Save your pennies and get something else, like a surface Pro, that you can play xbox games on. Touch controls are still Dog Balls and pretty much make any shooter just trash using them.
You know, it does seem like an unnecessary app, but I have to say the developer saw a need (albeit not a realistic one for the hardware) and tried their best to fill that need. So, I applaud them for putting this out and taking the time to make this app! Well done.
Honestly, I'm not expecting Nintendo to announce anything as big as BotW 2, or even follow up with info about Metroid Prime 4, so I am looking forward to it, but I have plenty of trepidation.
Most likely they will focus on the game builder app and Splatoon 3, and possibly new Smash content... but I will be shocked if we get anything really "Meaty" from E3 2021.
@Skid I've been playing the series since the PSP and I think what Rise really brings to the table is the removal of the wasted space for items like paintballs, and psychoserum to find the monsters (don't even get me started on the annoyances of farm quests and trying to find all of those stupid hidden items without Rise's map system). It streamlines the hunting process, better than any previous entry and with the wirebug it has made all weapons much faster to use, i.e. getting knocked on your butt and being able to wirebug out and redraw your weapon and jump right back in to the fray. There have been gripes I've had over the years with some of the minutia of the series, but they have fixed everything that annoyed me... except a proper lock-on camera for the monsters. Even World fell short in that one, but not nearly as badly as some of the first entries with NO lock on capabilities for the camera at all, not even the current "snap to" function. Just hope to god that you could move the camera fast enough to avoid a bolt of lightning or a deadly lunge from a monster. Glad to hear that this iteration is bringing new hunters into the fold.
