Re: Nintendo Switch Is Not "Technically Capable" Of Running Call Of Duty Games, Says CMA

UltraZelda64

Hey CMA... there is absolutely NO EVIDENCE that the Switch (at least in its current form) will even be Nintendo's console in 10 years, or the end of Microsoft's agreement with Nintendo and the others. Hell, I'd be surprised if it's around in more than five years from now. I'm not sure what they're trying to get at, it's a stupid point--do they really think the ten-year deal will die with the Switch and that Nintendo will go out of business or something following the Switch's life? I hope that was not their line of reasoning for blocking the deal, because if it is--they've only proved just how f---ing stupid they are.

Re: Indie Dev Headcannon Confirms It Helped Sega Update Sonic Origins Plus

UltraZelda64

@nocdaes You're right, no one asked for Game Gear. But a full year later, we're getting it--and I'll take it. You don't have to get it, your choice. Maybe people like you are why Sega didn't just make it free for all: Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

That said, being in the US I have played some of the Game Gear releases and never even seen a Master System. So while it'd be nice to get a chance to play the original 8-bit versions of some of these games, I'm not losing any sleep over it. Personally, I'm more interested to see what they do with the 16-bit remakes aside from adding Knuckles and Amy. Those 16-bit classics are really what this entire collection was all about to begin with, after all. The rest are just a nice bonus.

Re: Random: Smash Bros. Melee HD Unlikely To Happen, According To Former Nintendo Employees

UltraZelda64

Personally I would like to see Melee again since that is the version of Smash other than 64 that I sunk the most time into and therefore have the most good memories and nostalgia for, and honestly, there is no need to "remake" or even change it in any way. Beyond simple emulation or maybe a basic port with a widescreen mode, the game is basically perfect as is and does not need modification. Just because so many games have been tweaked in various ways, rethought and even totally reimagined, doesn't mean that every game needs to look like a brand new game and have a unique experience just to be fun and desirable by fans. Hell, if widescreen support is too much to ask, I'd be perfectly happy with the old standard 4:3 aspect ratio. A game that's already practically perfect to begin with doesn't need any tweaking.

Re: Poll: Which Of Rare's Classic N64 Games Would You Like To See On Switch Online?

UltraZelda64

Conker will never happen for various reasons but it's the one I'd like to see the most. Perfect Dark I don't think is likely either, but it'd also be at the top of my list. But from a realistic standpoint DKR and DK64 are not just possible, but likely (just give it time for Nintendo to run out of other easily-licensable games), so for that reason those two get my vote.

One other reason I chose DKR and DK64 is that they haven't had a proper re-release on modern consoles. Perfect Dark and Conker have both been re-released on Rare Replay, and Conker has even been redone in HD for the original Xbox--and these are all playable on current-generation Xbox consoles. So from a priority standpoint, DKR and DK64 would just make more sense.

Re: Bandai Namco Open To More Tales Remasters, Awaiting Fan Requests

UltraZelda64

Tales of the Abyss never got a proper port to a console away from the original PS2 release other than to the original 3DS if I remember right. That's the one most in need of a remaster/re-release in my opinion. Zestiria and Berseria also deserve a release on other consoles outside of Sony land, since they've only otherwise been released on PC. I'm sure there are other games that should be brought back but I'm not familiar with them.

Re: Sonic Frontiers Is Out Today On Switch, Are You Getting It?

UltraZelda64

Played it for about four hours on Xbox Series X and so far it's great. It's a pleasant surprise. It can be boring watching videos of other people play, but playing it yourself is another experience entirely. I got to the first Titan so far so I'm still pretty early in the game, but the story is pretty interesting from what I've played. The game is actually quite addicting, it can be easy to get hooked.

I like it so far, I think it was worth buying.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Sonic Frontiers

UltraZelda64

Can't wait for my Xbox copy to unlock to play on my Series X. I wish more people would talk about Sonic's customizable control parameters, so far I haven't seen anything about that. Well, hopefully in just over seven hours I can find out for myself! I'm actually pretty excited for this game.

Re: Sonic Frontiers On Switch Will Be The "Same Experience" As Other Platforms

UltraZelda64

@Old_Man_Nintendo The original games were remade... in the Retro Engine by Christian Whitehead (Sonic 1/2 mobile/Origins) and Stealth (Sonic 3&K in Origins)... what more could Toys For Bob do, and how could they do it better? They did a great job with the Crash Bandicoot trilogy, but they did the same exact thing with that trilogy that Taxman and Stealth did with the original Sonic trilogy... they took the original source material, made it look and sound better, and put it in a newer, better engine with more modern features. All of the games, for the most part, remained the same.

Re: Sonic Frontiers On Switch Will Be The "Same Experience" As Other Platforms

UltraZelda64

I feel like I'm at least coming into this as a lifetime Sonic fan from the very beginning, giving Sonic Team the benefit of the doubt, while--although seeing some things of concern--I am not just writing this one off just yet. I do, in fact, see some potentially positive and intriguing things about the game. Either way, the more I learn and watch, honestly, the more excited I am not only for the reviews and comments to drop tomorrow, but for my own copy to unlock tomerrow at midnight.

Old_Man_Nintendo, I understand your complaints and concerns and many of them are valid to at least some degree... but I feel like you've already made up your mind based purely on Sega's own spotty history with their handling of the franchise and their piss-poor reveal/marketing for this game. It doesn't really seem like you're giving it a chance--you're just jumping to conclusions on the game.

Re: Sonic Frontiers On Switch Will Be The "Same Experience" As Other Platforms

UltraZelda64

@KindofaBigDeal Honestly I agree it does look boring at times, and I swear the music at this point is just driving me nuts, but I am at least hoping for something decent and fun. 3D Sonic really is hit or miss, with most of the fun I had being on the first Sonic Adventure. This game might end up being okay, but it doesn't look like a masterpiece, or top-tier Sonic action. But yeah, nothing beats the 2D originals and Mania.

Re: Sonic Frontiers On Switch Will Be The "Same Experience" As Other Platforms

UltraZelda64

@KindofaBigDeal Yeah, I'm honestly not sure what I think overall. It seems like it might be fun... at times at least. And it seems like it might be boring. There are long sections where I don't know WTF is going on, yet I've seen some really cool fun-looking bosses. I still don't know how the classic-style zones fit in, and I am concerned because I heard there are only five of them and they're short. If the whole game is mostly just that overworld, I'm afraid how long it will last before getting boring. I mean, listen to the music that plays constantly. It's slow, boring, completely unexciting, and just not Sonic-like at all.

Honestly, I just want the game to just hurry up and unlock so I can find out for myself. It could be good, but it seems like one of those games where watching someone else play might not do the game complete justice. Most of the footage I've seen is I think on the Switch, so I hope I am pleasantly surprised at least with the game's graphical performance and capabilities on the Series X.

Re: Sonic Frontiers On Switch Will Be The "Same Experience" As Other Platforms

UltraZelda64

Preordered on Xbox. I'm just not sure I trust Sega's ability to utilize the Switch's hardware to its maximum extent. This is Sonic, so framerate--and everything else regarding speed--matters. And going on 2023, now owning an Xbox One X, an Xbox Series S and an Xbox Series X, I don't want to go back to Switch resolutions just for a chance at a decent framerate. Hell, I could probably play it on my One X and not only get better performance, but much better graphics at 4K as well. The Switch is getting harder and harder to be interested in by the month--Nintendo, do something!

Re: Video: New Switch Hardware Won't Stop Bad Ports

UltraZelda64

There is a difference between a bad port, and a port that literally just can't successfully be done. I'd call that an impossible port, but that term has already been used for something else entirely: games designed for much more powerful hardware that are not only entirely possible to port--but have been, with impressive results.

Yes, bad ports will always exist as long as there are lazy developers and poor management that doesn't care about quality. They are also possible if there is just too big a difference between the source and target system's specs--and again, if greedy companies didn't try to bite off more than they could chew just to say "we did it! We did the impossible," it wouldn't happen.

Of course, these things will continue to happen, and we just have to watch out more than ever these days. Especially with digital games, since traditional 30-day money back/exchange guarantees do not exist.

Re: The Nintendo 64 Platformer Glover Is Coming Soon To Switch

UltraZelda64

@-wc- Currently without a job, and perfect timing--my Switch Online service would have to run out. So... I signed up for the free seven-day subscription that allows me to play NES and SNES and... oh yeah, allows me at actually access my cloud saves without bugging me every single time I start a game that it can't sync my saves.

I'm sorry but these "online" services are a joke, and you really feel it when it goes POOF at just the right time. You're always too busy and don't have any time to play it when the service is active, then it dies when you literally have tons of time to play... absolutely NOTHING. Literally everything dies, even access to your save game backups.

NSO would make sense in the context of an N64 game like this, but in this case a proper Switch port that you have beyond the life of some paywalled online service is better. Wish I could've bought a bunch of those games on the service, then I'd still be able to play them now. But nope, Nintendo won't allow.

Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Asks Fans To "Boycott" Third Game After PlatinumGames Wage Fallout

UltraZelda64

I sense some greed and pointless anger, and I won't be taking part in the boycott that she's calling for. She's whining because she was going to get paid FOUR GRAND (!!!) just to record a bunch of voice lines--and instead decided to take none of it. And on top of that, she believes the character should have died with her employment at Platinum Games; that Bayonetta's new voice actress shouldn't have success with the character in a role that she herself literally turned down.

I'm sure her former co-workers don't miss her greed, arrogance and self-entitlement. And if she turned down returning to that job purely out of retaliation for what she believes is not a living wage, then she'd better have found herself a much better job. She's going to need it, especially if she did (or does) break any NDAs in case her former employer decides to come after her for it.

I just can't feel sorry for the original voice actress the way she is coming across.

Re: Pilotwings 64 For Switch Online Appears To Be Targeting A Higher Frame Rate

UltraZelda64

@LuigiBlood Correct me if I'm wrong... but aren't all N64 emulators since the original, UltraHLE, inaccurate hackjobs that pull off tricks in every game to make up for/fix all their timing and other problems? My understanding is that this is a problem with N64 emulation in general, not necessarily exclusive to Nintendo's emulator, or really any single N64 emulator. From the beginning developers have chose to write N64 emulators using high-level emulation and patch games as bugs appeared, instead of writing a cycle-accurate emulator from the ground up.

It's understandable why this may have been the case in the past (these buggier emulators could run on less powerful processors of the past and it may have been more worth it to patch all the bugs to "fix" all the games), but with the powerful processors we have these days it's unfortunate that no one seems to be willing to break the trend and make an N64 emulator focused on cycle accuracy.

What we need is an NEStopia/BSNES in the world of N64 emulation!

Re: Rare On GoldenEye 007's Return: "We Just Kept Talking Until We Made It Happen"

UltraZelda64

Better late than never! If the delay means we now get the game on two different consoles (home on Switch and an upgraded version for Xbox) instead of just an originally-planned improved version on Xbox, then that's even better!

But if they were in fact trying to get it released only on Xbox originally, it makes me wonder: was Nintendo truly one of the final licensees to make it happen, and NSO is what enticed them to truly warm up to the idea and allow an Xbox version as well... or could this have eventually happened, releasing only on non-Nintendo consoles in some alternate timeline, with or without Nintendo's involvement?

I really do think Nintendo, plus the warm relation Microsoft has created with them over the last several years during the Switch's lifecycle, was instrumental to its release... but the way it's mentioned in the quotes, leads to a few questions and possibilities the way it was said...

Re: Yakuza Dev Still Doesn't Think Switch Is The Right Platform For The Series

UltraZelda64

That is a dumb, nonsensical reason for not bringing a series to the Switch, but it is well within their right to develop and release their games for whatever platforms they want, and ignore others of their choosing. But the fact that they come out and openly attack the Switch as a platform, even for as stupid a reason they did, seems... off. It's as if they realize people may actually want their games on the Switch... and they have to come up with some excuse not to give it to them.

They would have made more sense (though not much more) just saying that they don't feel the series would resonate with the general demographics of Switch players, compared to those of PlayStation and Xbox platforms. Still nonsense, but better than this "underground feeling" bull****.

In reality, I read their response as "we're too lazy and don't want to put the time, money, work and effort into porting our games to a console that is not known to have loads of power to make up for our own sloppy programming deficiencies and lack of care to optimize our software for adequate performance on all platforms."

Re: Classic GameCube Action RPG 'Tales Of Symphonia' Getting Switch Remaster

UltraZelda64

Awesome--a PC will no longer be required to play this masterpiece on modern hardware! I hope to see this also make its way to Xbox. And Namco, are you there? How about a remaster of Tales of the Abyss? Then we'd just need Sega to give Skies of Arcadia Legends a proper remake and I think I would be happy with the state of my favorite RPG classics on modern systems.

Re: More N64 Games Are Coming To The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack

UltraZelda64

@Bass_X0 I would also love to see Perfect Dark. That game was amazing. In the meantime I do own the Xbox version, so I don't have to try to figure out how to set up my N64 on a modern TV (and then be disappointed by just how bad it looks when not being played on a CRT...). I would've never had any hope of such a thing happening, but here we are... Microsoft owns Rare, Banjo is on Switch Online, apparently anything can happen these days.

I really like this partnership Nintendo and Microsoft have had over the lifespan of the Switch so far... it has led to such pleasant surprises that I once thought I could only dream of, it continues to surprise, and leaves so many more seemingly-impossible things within the realm of possibility.

It only reaffirms my preferred duo of consoles: Switch and Xbox. Of course, PC/the Steam Deck is awesome too and PlayStation has some stuff you can't get elsewhere, but this Nintendo/Microsoft duo... I'm really liking it.

Re: Several Major Resident Evil Games Are Coming To Switch

UltraZelda64

Why bother, is all I have to say. When I saw the RE: Village artwork during a Nintendo Direct, admittedly, I had to double check to see if I was actually seeing what I thought I was seeing. For a second there I was shocked, although I knew I shouldn't be because I knew there was no way in hell the system could run the game, and that if it really is coming to Switch it's going to be some stupid "cloud" version. I'll pass, but then I have access to the game on Xbox One X and Xbox Series S so I'm not worried about it.

I guess it's good that people who otherwise may not have a way to play these games soon will be able to, if their internet connection is fast and stable at least, and if the extra lag doesn't kill it, but for every one of these games the question grows stronger: We need a more powerful console... where is it, Nintendo? Every single time a company releases one of these "cloud" games on Switch that is the question that goes through my head as I pass them by, and these days companies are announcing multiple of them at a time. I would say that is not a good sign.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Pac-Man World: Re-Pac

UltraZelda64

What I am interested in is the Switch version vs. the Xbox/PlayStation versions. How does it hold up? As a game, there are decades-old reviews from 1999 that I can get basic highlights from based on the original. But what I am interested in is how it plays on today's modern hardware.

Are they all pretty much equal? Does the Switch version lag behind, or is it a competent port? Is it about as good as it can be on the Xbox One X? What extra does the power of the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X provide? I can find none of that information; therefore, pretty much all reviews have been useless to me.

I feel like game reviews these days should place greater emphasis on cross-platform performance, especially as the Switch itself continues to age relative to its competition and as multi-platform games become even more common.

Re: Nintendo Is Apparently Not Involved In The New Switch DRM Initiative

UltraZelda64

"Software publishers and Denuvo take great care to deliver the best gaming experience...The protection is designed not to affect the gamer’s experience, and it does not have any in-game performance impact."

Bull----. Don't forget that this is the same exact crap they've spewed about their DRM on PC for years. It is an obvious lie.

"Denuvo also mentioned how the tech for Switch would not require online checks and was a solution designed to be fully offline."

Maybe in its current "version pre-1.0" incarnation, but I don't trust them one damn bit to keep to their word. As soon as publishers start asking for more "features," they will be more than happy to oblige and change the "role" of their trash product.

"According to Kotaku, a Denuvo spokesperson has clarified that Nintendo is not involved in this new Switch DRM initiative."

This is great news, and I hope it does not change. If I have to start refusing to buy Nintendo games because of this garbage, then why should I even own a Nintendo console? Hopefully this remains the case, because Nintendo's games are very big reason to own their consoles--and if they ever begin to support Denuvo, then I won't touch. But I will keep following this one--and as soon as Nintendo changes their mind, hopefully they don't, I am done.

"Because of NDAs, we are not allowed to disclose company names, but we can say this solution comes from strong demand from publishing partners."

Okay, that's fine--so I'll just be extra cautious in the future when I choose to buy any new Switch game. Eventually your full partner list will come out, but until then, I will have to do the extra research to make sure that any game I want does not come weighed down by this Denuvo garbage. Until a full list is provided and managed somewhere, I will just create my own blacklist of Denuvo-supporting Switch publishers.

Does Nintendo still have their classic Nintendo Seal of Quality? If not, now would be a great time to bring it back--and deny any product using this cursed software the privilege of using its mark.

Disclaimer: I own two Switch consoles, not modded, and probably 850+ games, at least. I have never felt the need to emulate any of my Switch games. I will not pay for a game to waste my already old hardware's precious resources just to prevent me from doing something that I have no plans of doing in the first place.

In reality the only effect this will have is developers of Switch emulators will write an anti-Denuvo mechanism to build into their emulators, which will disable it and allow the game to be run probably better than it could on a native system to begin with, due to the lack of wasted resources inddition to the surplus of extra power.

Your only inconvenience? Maybe you'd have to wait a day or two, possibly a week after a newly-released Denuvo game to be patched into your emulator and then you're good to go. Actual Switch purchasers... who knows, you'll probably suffer weeks or even months of required updates before they either get around to fixing to performance, or removing the DRM entirely.

Re: Nintendo Once Again Reassures It Has No Plans To Increase Switch Prices

UltraZelda64

@PepperMintRex It's Sony... they think that just because they're at the top of the gaming world right now, they are invincible. Only problem, all it will take is just enough f---ups like this to cause them to lose their throne, allow the competition to catch up, and then they will be forced to play nice. Really, Sony just seems desperate to me with this move.

Re: Nintendo Once Again Reassures It Has No Plans To Increase Switch Prices

UltraZelda64

@shred5 I am not arguing that an OLED screen doesn't cost more than the original Switch screen. What I am saying is that it sure isn't $50 more, and even if you double the amount of storage to 64 GB, put slightly better speakers in it, etc., there's still no way in hell it comes up to the full $50 extra you're paying for it. That's all.

Whether it's worth it or not, depends on the person. Honestly, if I played my Switch primarily in handheld mode, I'd probably get the OLED for the better screen and audio. But because I play mine exclusively docked as a home console it's impossible to justify.

But no matter how you look at it, the OLED model is not $50 worth of equipment upgrades. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if old 32 GB chips are actually getting harder to find and therefore more expensive, making the "upgrade" to 64 GB internal storage in the OLED model actually cheaper for Nintendo! Of course, I don't expect them to pass on the savings when they can just list it as technically a feature/spec improvement, though.

Re: Nintendo Once Again Reassures It Has No Plans To Increase Switch Prices

UltraZelda64

@Kyloctopus I don't think that would be a fair comparison since that could be considered a collector's edition, and collector's editions--especially over time--are also worth more. I have spent more money on countless collector's edition items in the past where otherwise it's just a new paint job or artwork. My 20th Anniversary Xbox Controller is the latest example, but Nintendo themselves have released tons of products in the Game Boy and DS lines over the years. Hell. remember all those brightly-colored translucent N64s?

Re: Nintendo Once Again Reassures It Has No Plans To Increase Switch Prices

UltraZelda64

It's pretty obvious Nintendo is not going to follow Sony's lead and raise Switch prices, because they already did--and they did it in a much smarter, more stealthy way: the OLED Model.

It certainly wasn't $50 worth of improvements over the original model, but at the same time it was technically somehow better than the original models in a few (although mostly negligible) ways. At least it's something--Sony won't even upgrade the storage capacity for the people in affected price-gouging territories.

Re: Poll: So, Wave Race 64 Or Blue Storm - Which Is Best?

UltraZelda64

Blue Storm really cranked the realism up, but I always felt it lacked something that its N64 predecessor didn't. Wave Race just felt more fun overall to me; I'm not sure why, maybe it was the track design or its overall simplicity due to hardware limitations.

Whatever it is, Wave Race 64 is my favorite--and no, I never played (or to be honest, cared to play) Wave Race on Game Boy. Never was much of portable gaming fan, and when Nintendo sent me that N64 preview tape showing Wave Race 64 and other N64 launch games, there was no turning back to a Game Boy game I don't recall ever seeing in stores anyway.

Re: Talking Point: How Were You Introduced To Metroid?

UltraZelda64

Probably Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion. I never had an NES, and my parents never got me a copy of Super Metroid when I was growing up either. And although I had a Game Boy Pocket and Game Boy Color, Metroid was not necessarily among the games in my Game Boy library. Because of this, I admittedly never had a particularly strong interest in the series, or any nostalgia, because I only got to play it much later in life as a mid/late teen, when real life itself started taking hold of my ability to get into video games the way I once did.

Re: Sega Rolling Out New Update For Sonic Origins, Here's What's Included

UltraZelda64

@Truegamer79 Wow, consider yourself seriously lucky--it was so annoying, it could have you wanting to wring that poor fox's neck (and that's not cool). Maybe you played with the volume down to where you wouldn't hear Tails' constant jumping, or you played mostly the other games where it wasn't an issue (only Sonic 2)? Either way, be thankful that you didn't have to hear it! I actually stopped playing entirely while waiting for a patch, and I know other people played only as Sonic to eliminate the possibility of the bug occurring. Personally, I gotta have Tails--it's Tails or nothing, so I decided to stop playing altogether until they fixed it.
