Second class citizens again. Why buy the Wii U version when the other versions of the game on other Consoles aren't gimped? Nope. Not gonna support companies who don't go all in. What a joke Nintendo are becoming. They can't do a thing right. I hate it. I hate that my favourite company is just screwing things up constantly. I hate it!!! But I'm not going to start supporting gimped versions of games just to do my part when I can just as easily get the same game on my PS3 and get all the features and DLC. Fix the problem Nintendo. It's not hard. Slash the price of the Wii U, halve it even. Just do something instead of talking about it. And release pokemon bank for gods sake.
It shouldn't be taking this long. Why are we constantly getting the same old old old old NES games for 3DS and Wii U instead of some more different and unique GBA and DS games? It's stupid that it's taking so long.
More level 5 can only be a good thing. I hope it comes to the west regions, along with Fantasy Life. The 3DS will need some big hitters this year to keep up momentum. So far Kirby seems to be the only thing worthwhile coming.
Region lock equals pissed off gamers, and gamers are the only ones who will buy Nintendo consoles of late. Even then it's a stretch for them to lay down money for a Wii U or 3DS. Having said that, this isn't a game I'm interested in. But there are a lot of games that I am interested in that never make it over. Region lock sucks.
The structure problem is having their first party teams working on two different consoles, in the current sense, the Wii U and 3DS. Things aren't the same as back in the DS and Wii days where there was a lot more 3rd party support, even when a lot of it was shovelware. There isn't even that now, not really. If all their 1st party teams were focused on making games for one console, their wouldn't be software droughts, plain and simple. We still probably wouldn't get some huge AAA 3rd party games, but it wouldn't matter if there was a big 1st party game coming out every month or 6 weeks or so. They either have to go the way of Sega and go software only, which I don't want, or buy up a lot of developers and/or pay publishing for a LOT of games, not just dribs and drabs like now, which is a costly venture not guaranteed for success but an excellent way of having a stable flow of software to drive hardware, or bow out of home console and try to survive in the handheld arena, which is where they excel, but is a shrinking market, or have a true hybrid home console/handheld console coming in the future.
They could always do what Sega did, and by that I don't mean to software only. I mean they went and got their own major sport franchises through 1st and 2nd party efforts. The 2K sport series was born on the dreamcast, and look how popular it is now? Visual Concepts took on EA Sports and really made some solid NBA and NFL games that were noticeably superior to the NBA Live and Madden series of games at the time that were becoming quite stale. Before that, Sega had their own Soccer series on the Saturn that was quite good as well. It didn't go so well in the end for Sega, we all know that, but they never had the money in the back either that Ninty does.
So many things that are possible to do to reverse their fortunes, but Nintendo constantly swing the other way. We need to be able to make friends with whomever we choose online without having to go to forums for friend codes. I can't even comment on miiverse to randoms on 3DS. It's a joke. They are a laughing stock.
The great Nintendo problem. Not enough 3rd party support. Great 1st party games, spread too thin between handheld and home consoles. The solution without backing out of either market is simple. The next cycle of hardware from Nintendo should be a true hybrid of handheld and home console. How they can do it I have no idea. Perhaps they could go the PS4 + Vita way except that the hardware inside should be identical, so games will work either at home or on the go, but it may be slightly cost prohibitive. Or perhaps it could be the opposite of what the Wii U does, with all hardware inside the next Gamepad like handheld device, and another device attached to a TV that merely streams what is playing on the pad back to the TV. It would be cheaper than the first option, but would also i think be more limited in what could be done hardware wise with graphics and sound etc.
In any case, going this route could be their saviour. All releases will be for the "one" console family. We could finally have our pokemon on the big screen at home as well as on the go. Streetpass would still be a thing. Second screen gaming could still be thing. Going to a friends place to play Nintendo? Take your 4DS Gamepad to hook up the main system. True two or more player 2nd screen gaming. The 1st party devs could focus on creating one Mario, one Mario kart, one LoZ, and various other franchises for one console instead of two, so many more 1st party games would get released and the software droughts would lessen. If 3rd parties were still not keen on joining up with Nintendo for yet another generation, it wouldn't seem so bad with so much 1st party software being released. Now obviously some games will be better suited to home or handheld use, some adjusting will have to be made, but ultimately it will be up to the consumer to decide. How good would it be to be able to buy SM3DW on disc, pop it into the home console, and if you want to take it on the go with you, you could just download it onto the handheld and away you go.
As it is though, Nintendo will just have to ride out the Wii U's lacklustre performance. I still love my Wii U, but it's still the potential it has that I like more than what it actually does. The graphics can be quite good, but I'm not going to buy a 3rd party game on Wii U that is worse graphically than PS3 or XBox 360. I never expected it to be on par with the new consoles, but I expected it to be better than last gen. It's quite pricey for what it is. Miiverse is great but it's sooooo slow. Miiverse on the 3DS is so gimped i wouldn't miss it if it went. It's unusable to me. Switching between games and the home screen is still slow on the Wii U. I should be able so chat with friends, even video chat friends on the Gamepad while I play a game. No instant messaging that doesn't require switching out of the game to Miiverse. It should just pop up on the TV of Gamepad. Still no 2nd Gamepad option. It won't ever come because it would tax the outdated hardware too much and games will look horrible. 32gb internal storage? What is with that? There are soooooo many games I would get if the hard drive space was just automatically there. I shouldn't have to go out and buy yet another add on. It should just be included in the box. So many many mistakes, so many limitations, still no proper account system for gods sake. It's a shamble. And you know, I can put up with a lot of stuff, but I'm not the one Nintendo need to convince to buy their systems. It's everyone else, who can just go out and buy another system that runs rings around them with hardware, graphics, 3rd party games, social networks and online stuff, larger hard drives etc. They don't get the Nintendo exclusive games of course, but they have their own big hitting franchises, and to get a next gen system for not much more than a Wii U, that can do all the things it can't, it's very enticing.
So like I say, ride out the Wii U for another 2 years, make the next console a true handheld home console hybrid, have a ton of 1st party titles coming that won't be stretched too thin between two consoles, have hardware on par or better than xb1/ps4, a proper account system, and if it succeeds then the 3rd parties will come back too. It might be a big gamble, but I don't think Nintendo will survive another slow to take off handheld AND another home console that will inevitably do the same. If what they say is their business, selling hardware and then make megatons of money selling their software in that closed environment, I truly believe that having only one console to concentrate on will help a lot with their core business. Think about software that is released for both of these systems now, like Pokemon XY, 3D World, luigi's mansion 2, Pikmin 3, Scribblenauts, Call of Duty, Assassins Creed 4, Mario Kart, Fire Emblem, Bravely Default, Sonic Lost World, Paper Mario, Mario Party, Lego City Undercover to name just a few really excellent games released on both 3DS and Wii U. If those games were on a console that was just on two years old that would be a killer system.
This is my personal dream for Nintendo, but knowing them they will have something totally unexpected coming next. I just hope it's not as big a flop as the Wii U has been thus far.
Account system, lower prices on tired old NES games, some more recent consoles would be nice as well. Bring the Gamecube games already.
The VC is pretty lame at the moment. It had it's day i believe on the Wii. Much more is needed to make it succeed in its own right, and Nintendo either aren't interested or dont have the man power to justify the work needed for such a service. It's a shame, but with less work on the VC, surely some more is being done to beef up the actual Wii U game library.
I love the Wii U, but it isnt going to sell until Nintendo turn it around with some more modern thinking.
I might jump in. Kind of got over Skylanders. But the until the few issues with the Wii U version are patched out, I'm not going to get it. I am in fact leaning more towards Swap Force anyway due to already having a good amount of figures, and the Disney franchises so far for Infinity don't really appeal to me. Perhaps cars does, but if this was Lion King or Up or Wall E, I'd be down to get some figures and playsets of those.
They have gotten better, that's for sure, but I would rather have my on board memory large from the start, and then also have the option to expand or upgrade. 32GB is just too small. If it were 60 or even 80 at the start, that would have been the perfect option for the deluxe model, and 32 for the regular SKU.
No account system is still a bad move in my opinion and many many others. Without it, we won't see the Nintendo digital business take off into the stratosphere like we have seen with Steam. People won't trust it enough to lay down a large sum of money on something locked to a system. It's not fair, and it is anti consumer. And if Nintendo want to stay in the game, and lead it, they will have to embrace the industry norm. Or at least have something different and better in place. A cross platform VC wouldn't go astray either.
No, Nintendo haven't got their digital business anywhere near "right". It's not entirely bad, but its just not good enough. Nintendo used to lead the way. And while it remains true in some ways, everything to do with online and digital is very very far behind.
The branding while clever is just so problematic, no average person with little to no experience is going to know what sort of 3DS game is going to work on what system now with the 2DS. Worst idea ever Nintendo. I really hope this 2DS version just tanks it. It's so anti consumer.
2DS. Do not like. I feel like I am having a nonsense dream. Longest kneejerk reaction to the 3D issue on younger eyes ever. If this is really aimed at the younger crowd, why not just engineer a more durable clamshell design in the first place? Wow. What a stupid and ugly and pointless piece of trash, which will only hurt them with marketing and brand confusion even further.
"SOME GAME out now on Nintendo 3DS and 2DS, but not the DS that is 2D, or the DSi or DSiXL, no it's for the new 3DS and 3DSXL which are 3D and also the 2DS which plays 3DS games in 2D only"
Seriously. Just when you though the rest of the gaming community couldn't laugh at Nintendo anymore than they already do, they go and do something like this. Wake me please. This has to be a dream.
There is not enough done to get Level 5 games to the west. Level 5 and Platinum Games are my favourite Japanese video game companies. Inazuma series of games really need to be pushed to the US and Europe more. And where is Fantasy Life?
@Shadowkiller97 hey you don't have to sell me on the idea. I love it. It's the average person who hasn't bought the Wii U that takes a look at it, and only sees what it can't do instead of what it can. And the list of what it can't do compared to other consoles is pretty extensive. Pinch to zoom is the standard motion for touchscreen displays now. I don't know what place it has in games, and i am used to not using it when I use the Gamepad as a browsing device, but anyone who tries the Gamepad like that, the first thing they do is try to to pinch to zoom and it doesn't work.
Can someone explain to me how a machine that produces this gen quality graphics, is basically a suped up Wii, which was in itself an upgraded Gamecube, is still costing so much to produce? I don't believe it is the Gamepad, because it doesn't have multitouch, it doesn't have analogue buttons or triggers, and its not really a very high resolution screen, nor is it huge. It's not a DVD or Bluray player, so there aren't any licencing fees. I just don't get why it's not profitable yet.
Being the Nintendo fan that I am, I can see the value in what it offers, but I'm not so biased that I can also see how with how many corners Nintendo have cut with the machine, or at least is perceived that way due to other consoles offering more features, that the asking price is just too much for the average or casual gamer, for the kind of tech specs it offers. A price cut is the only option, or at least up the amount of HDD for the same price. A Premium SKU Black Wii U with 500GB HDD with Nintendo Land and NSMBU built in instead of on a disc, that sounds like a better deal at the current RRP.
Lack of some 3rd party games is rather annoying, and the ones that do make it are generally late, missing features, or poorer quality than their PS3/360 counterparts. What is more annoying than that though is having no first party games. Nintendo really need to start publishing more games themselves to get the library up. Wii U fans won't be bothered by not getting the usual FPS or 3rd person action game doing the rounds on the other console when there are exclusives like Bayonetta and W101 and Lego City Undercover. That's only 3 games and two of them aren't here yet. But we need more games like that. Coupled with an onslaught of 1st party and indie games, we should be set.
And in any case, if Nintendo can sell the Wii U to the more dudebro kind of Xbox gamer as a second console, well I say that's just fine. To me, I love Nintendo, but I will need a PS4 to complete my gaming and multimedia needs in my lounge room. Just like I did this gen with my Wii and PS3 making a pretty good combo.
As of yesterday, there were no player posts on Miiverse for the Wii U version from the PAL side of things anyway. It made me giggle a little. And then feel sad.
@ChiroTheHiro excellent news. I didn't have to redownload my eShop games when I did my transfer. I made a backup of my SD card on my computer, and then just copied that back onto the SD card I was going to use in my XL.
Glad that there are work arounds, but the sooner there is an account based system, the better.
I hope that's the case. I just remember when I transferred my stuff from my original 3DS over to my new XL that it said anything on the system previously would be deleted.. I'd like some more confirmation.
I would love one of those 3DS systems, but without an account based system, how would I transfer all my games from my current system to that one without deleting the Pokemon game? Stupid system transfer. I get that I would be in the minority and the intended market for these systems is to people who don't have 3DS's, but Nintendo need to not alienate their most loyal fans this way. I bought a 3DS and Wii U at launch, bought a 3DSXL on day 1 of release. Now I'm willing to throw more money at them but now with games preloaded i would have to buy the game separate as well because using after system transfer, the game would be deleted from the special edition handheld. Not cool Nintendo.
Then again it's all hypothetical. These haven't been confirmed for western release. It still makes me angry though that Nintendo won't introduce an account based system. These limitations are only holding them back and making enemies of their most dedicated fans.
While I am not a big fan on tablet style touchscreen games, the mark its leaving on the industry as a whole, or the shallowness of most of the stuff available, I believe it has a place. For someone like myself, who isn't the most capable of gamers when it comes to twitch inputs and memorising moves lists and the like, games like turn based RPGs and strategy games have been my choice of game styles, while still enjoying the easy modes of most platformers and racers and action games, nearly all genres except for 1st person shooters. I just can't do it. I can't move and look around and aim and shoot in a 3D space without a point of reference like 3rd person games and/or a lock on feature. It's just beyond my ability. Most Mario games kick my butt. DKC games really kick my butt. I am so glad now that we have features like the super guide. Now this lack of skill isn't from being brought up on tablet or phone games. I grew up on Sega and Nintendo. I just could never play as well as others. Now I think I can get a lot of enjoyment out of games these days more than I used to growing up. But being not so good at some games hasn't steered me toward smartphone gaming. It steered me toward my first DS, and more casual kind of games such as Space Channel 5, Eyetoy, DDR, Buzz, Singstar, etc over the years. And right now I feel more at home with Nintendo consoles than any other, with Sony home consoles close behind. I tried Kinect on the 360. I have nothing nice to say about Microsoft console gaming so I won't say anything at all.
I guess my point is, while some get pleasure and satisfaction from having their skilled tested, others like myself can be put off when no matter how hard I try I just can't do something, it's beyond my ability, and therefore give up on the game because all progress through said game hinges on being able to dial up the correct sequence of button presses at the correct time or else. It doesn't make me any less a gamer than anyone else. Obviously I am less skilled, but if someone gets enjoyment out of swiping a screen as opposed to dpad and button pressing, who is anyone to tell them that its wrong? Certainly not me. And not the author of this piece.
The Wii version should be quickly upscaled and released on the eShop for Wii U. Same for the 3DS release. I thought that this game might come back with Prope making one of the new Streetpass games, but not under the same publisher that doesn't seem to be pushing too much to get it done.
It does seem to have that shovelware vibe, but if its fun, then it will be worth it. Not hyped, but interested so far. I have high hopes for the 4 player Adventure Time game too.
I have Black Ops 2 for Wii U. My son likes it, I hate first person shooters. From what I could tell the last game looked pretty good to me. But seeing as my son now has a 360 in his room, if I do buy this game it will probably be for that, the only way I would get the Wii U version would be if it was technically superior to the 360 version. Although playing dual screen as opposed to split screen is a pretty good feature. I'll keep my eye on it.
I would like to see a huge price drop. I like many Nintendo fans love my Wii U, and will love it more with all these brilliant games coming, but it just doesn't seem worth the asking price. Not anymore. This machine needs to be in as many homes as possible but it won't happen with the other current consoles selling for really cheap, and the next gen being not much dearer than a Wii U. They could always preload NSMBU onto a system and sell it. I wouldn't want that game taking away sales of 3D World though. Meh, I don't know how they are going to turn this around. I love my Wii U. I just don't think the general gaming public will with the current price, low internal storage, and lack of big name 3rd party games. Cut the price though, and add all Nintendos first party games to the mix and the system seems much more worthy.
Nintendo really need to release a new SKU with 500GB internal storage. Having only 32GB and being priced not a great deal under the next gen consoles, it looks kind of, well sad really.
Also having said that, having no account based system means I'm not that keen on going out and buying an external hdd, and then pay a premium eShop price for a full retail title. No thanks. I would gladly support the eShop more by buying full retail games if that were the case, but until then, I will only be buying smaller indie type games and keep buying physical discs for the big games.
Kind of ironic for me as with my 3DS I have upgraded to a 32GB SD card and have started downloading a lot of retail games. But once that card fills up I don't really know what I'm going to do. Just lucky most 3DS games don't take up too much space.
Nintendo really needs to buy Atlus. Not only will it strengthen their hold over the Japanese market, but they need more 1st party games. Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei should be just the start of a beatiful match made in heaven, not a once off.
When has Nintendo ever acquired a big name company ?
Nintendo really needed to buy Sega too. Or at least a big selection of their IP's

Perhaps cars does, but if this was Lion King or Up or Wall E, I'd be down to get some figures and playsets of those.
Re: We're Getting Digital Right On 3DS And Wii U, Insists Reggie
Re: Weirdness: ABC News Tells Us All About How the 2Dees Can Play 3Dees Games
The branding while clever is just so problematic, no average person with little to no experience is going to know what sort of 3DS game is going to work on what system now with the 2DS. Worst idea ever Nintendo. I really hope this 2DS version just tanks it. It's so anti consumer.
Re: Reaction: Nintendo Surprises Us All With the 2DS and Wii U Price Cut
Re: Professor Layton Franchise Sales Hit 15 Million, Guild Downloads Reach 400,000
There is not enough done to get Level 5 games to the west. Level 5 and Platinum Games are my favourite Japanese video game companies. Inazuma series of games really need to be pushed to the US and Europe more. And where is Fantasy Life?
Re: Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara Delayed Again on Wii U
In the same news over and over, the Wii U gets screwed over again by 3rd parties.
Re: Review: Family Kart 3D (3DS eShop)
Why no two player? Lost a sale here.
Re: Senran Kagura Burst Confirmed For Physical And 3DS eShop Release In Europe
I can't wait to have this game. I do think they will see more sales on the eShop though than retail. I'll be getting the download version for sure.
Re: Wii U Hardware Still Being Sold At A Loss
@Shadowkiller97 hey you don't have to sell me on the idea. I love it. It's the average person who hasn't bought the Wii U that takes a look at it, and only sees what it can't do instead of what it can. And the list of what it can't do compared to other consoles is pretty extensive. Pinch to zoom is the standard motion for touchscreen displays now. I don't know what place it has in games, and i am used to not using it when I use the Gamepad as a browsing device, but anyone who tries the Gamepad like that, the first thing they do is try to to pinch to zoom and it doesn't work.
Re: Wonderful 101 Team Is Platinum's Biggest Ever, Game Has More Content Than Bayonetta
My advice to Nintendo is simply this, please keep giving Platinum Games more money to make more games for you.
Re: Wii U Hardware Still Being Sold At A Loss
Re: Talking Point: Wii U and Third-Party Inconsistencies Pose Questions for Console Owners
Re: Review: Turbo: Super Stunt Squad (3DS)
As of yesterday, there were no player posts on Miiverse for the Wii U version from the PAL side of things anyway. It made me giggle a little. And then feel sad.
Re: SEGA Reportedly Interested in Acquiring Atlus' Parent Company
Nintendo should buy Atlus AND Sega. Then there wouldn't be any need for 3rd parties ever again. Muhaaha bwahhahaha!
Re: Pokémon X & Y to Catch Roughly 14,000 of Your 3DS Memory Blocks
@ChiroTheHiro excellent news. I didn't have to redownload my eShop games when I did my transfer. I made a backup of my SD card on my computer, and then just copied that back onto the SD card I was going to use in my XL.
Glad that there are work arounds, but the sooner there is an account based system, the better.
Re: Pokémon X & Y to Catch Roughly 14,000 of Your 3DS Memory Blocks
I hope that's the case. I just remember when I transferred my stuff from my original 3DS over to my new XL that it said anything on the system previously would be deleted.. I'd like some more confirmation.
Re: Video: Game Freak May Have Made Solitaire and Horse Racing an Awesome Combination
Oh my god. I want this. I want it now.
Re: Pokémon X & Y to Catch Roughly 14,000 of Your 3DS Memory Blocks
Re: Weirdness: These Gaist Crusher 3DS Add-Ons Aren't Particularly Stylish
This needs a western release for sure. Especially around Xmas time.
Re: Classic SNES RPG Breath Of Fire II Is Coming To The North American Wii U Virtual Console
No Europe. Boo.
Re: Soapbox: Mobile And Tablet Gaming Is Creating A Generation Of Talentless Players
Re: Nintendo Download: 1st August (Europe)
Lots there, nothing to really get excited about. Cloudberry perhaps, but it has been hyped as a stupidly hard game. I do prefer the easier games.
Re: Petition Started To Make Reggie A Playable Character In Upcoming Smash Bros. Title
Reggie V Iwata battles. Would be pretty awesome
Re: SEGA Is Hoping To Win Back Platforming Fans With Sonic Lost World
Generations was a great game. This does look good though.
Re: Rodea the Sky Soldier Still in Development for Wii and 3DS
The Wii version should be quickly upscaled and released on the eShop for Wii U. Same for the 3DS release. I thought that this game might come back with Prope making one of the new Streetpass games, but not under the same publisher that doesn't seem to be pushing too much to get it done.
Re: SpongeBob SquarePants: Plankton's Robotic Revenge Confirmed For Wii U, Wii, 3DS And DS
It does seem to have that shovelware vibe, but if its fun, then it will be worth it. Not hyped, but interested so far. I have high hopes for the 4 player Adventure Time game too.
Re: Some Hometown Story Pre-Orders Coming with Plush Embers
I am so interested in this game.
Re: Nintendo Finally Confirms Call of Duty: Ghosts Is Coming To Wii U
I have Black Ops 2 for Wii U. My son likes it, I hate first person shooters.
From what I could tell the last game looked pretty good to me. But seeing as my son now has a 360 in his room, if I do buy this game it will probably be for that, the only way I would get the Wii U version would be if it was technically superior to the 360 version. Although playing dual screen as opposed to split screen is a pretty good feature. I'll keep my eye on it.
Re: Bike Rider DX Pedals Towards The 3DS eShop
Day 1 for me. Looks great. Sounds even better. Will defs have to get the headphones on for this one.
Re: Rumour: Nintendo Planning a Wind Waker HD Hardware Bundle
Re: The Wonderful 101's Download Will Grab Over 10GB of Precious Hard Drive Space
Re: Talking Point: F-Zero GX HD Could Boost the Franchise onto Wii U
F Zero GX HD could be a brilliant online only offering. It could even be a f2p game.
Re: Atlus Parent Company Reportedly Preparing To Sell Operations
Nintendo really needs to buy Atlus. Not only will it strengthen their hold over the Japanese market, but they need more 1st party games. Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei should be just the start of a beatiful match made in heaven, not a once off.
When has Nintendo ever acquired a big name company ?
Nintendo really needed to buy Sega too. Or at least a big selection of their IP's
Re: Power Rangers Megaforce Starting a Brawl on 3DS
It doesn't look that great. But one doesn't know for sure.
Re: Inazuma Eleven 3 Kicks Off in Europe on 27th September
So if Nintendo are publishing it then will it be on the eShop?
