Re: Capcom Seeks a Western "Breakthrough" With Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate

TheAdza

I really want to like the series, but I bought Tri and it bored me to tears. I have the 3DS and Wii U demo, and nothing much seems to have changed. I just don't get it. How long does it take to kill a monster? Forever by the looks of it. Now while I can't say the multiplayer is bad because I haven't played it and am probably missing some key elements, I don't think I can stand hacking and slashing with stiff hard to control characters, constantly having to adjust the camera, for hours on end.
Like I said, I want to like this game. I just don't. What am I missing?

Re: Cryamore Confirmed to be Adventuring Onto Wii U

TheAdza

I hope all these indie games get the sales they deserve on the Wii U. I already have some great titles from the eShop. I was thinking that I wouldn't ever have to buy a separate hard drive but I think I may have to in the not too distant future.

Re: LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes to the Rescue on Wii U This Spring

TheAdza

Shame it's an older game, because of the reasons stated in some comments above, but having more games available on the Wii U is always a good thing.

Being an old port though, I do hope that Warner doesn't have high hopes for the game, and won't base decisions of releasing newer games on the probable low sales of this particular title. They should see their own figures of how well Scribblenauts Unlimited, a brand new game, sold against their older ported game.

They could always just be looking to ride on the coat tails of Lego City Undercover as well.

Re: First Impressions: LEGO City Undercover

TheAdza

I haven't enjoyed any Lego games that I have played on any system thus far, but this game is looking to break that trend with me. Can't wait for it to be released. It's gone from that Lego game announced at E3 that I couldn't care any less about to one of my most anticipated Wii U games.

Re: Review: Ben 10: Omniverse (Wii U)

TheAdza

I love the show, well, maybe not omniverse so much, but the original, and alien force and ultimate alien were much more than the sum of its parts (a genius merchandising toy advert )

It's a shame there hasn't been any great games based on the series of shows. It has great source material. But as always, the translation of a licenced tv/movie property to video game format fails.

I don't know what it would take to change this. Some better devs or more money put into games like this to make them not such a cheap money grabbing experience for all involved.

Re: Cliff Bleszinski Sees A Future Where Nintendo Is Out Of The Hardware Business

TheAdza

It's not going to happen. It's always been like this. Some games are exclusive to one platform. If you have a console and the game you want is on another console, well buy the other console with the game you want or simply just miss out.

If there was only one console, there would be no competition, no innovation, prices would rise on hardware and games and the whole industry would go stagnant and die.

Another point is that these doom and gloom stories come from third party publishers that devs that thrive off multi platform releases. They have to go multi platform to cover the high costs of development on a high end console. Nintendo don't. Their games can sell way more on one "under powered" console than a AAA game selling on the 360 and PS3. Mario Kart, a huge franchise of Nintendo sold over 20 million copies on the Wii. With the exception of CoD, most big third party games that sold on the HD twins were lucky to sell 10 million copies. By staying a generation behind in the graphics war, Nintendo has hugely softened development costs to themselves, and yeah sure it alienates devs who want to work on the latest graphics and can mean less games overall on a Nintendo console, but that only leaves even more room for Nintendos own titles to shine even brighter and sell more.

Nintendo aren't going software only any time soon. Cheaper hardware and development costs will lead to higher profit margins, their franchises are timeless with that great friendly Disney/Pixar family vibe. If a child's first console be it a handheld or home console isn't a Nintendo console, then I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

But back on topic, these people who comment that Nintendo would be better off going software only, they only speak from their experience of not making as much money by having their high end games exclusive to one console. Also, if Nintendo were to go software only, it would only increase the user base of the remaining consoles, and in return they would be more likely to sell more software. So I don't take their words to heart. They are just words. With no meaning behind them as they have a totally different philosophy than Nintendo do, with a hint of an ulterior motive of greediness to sell more of their own games.

Let the other console sites and blogs rave on about the demise of Nintendo that never comes. It's what they are going to so any way seeing as it is so fashionable these days. Good old tall poppy syndrome. There is no reason for us Nintendo fans to start turning against one another over these types of comments from game creators who have no intention of releasing anything on a Nintendo console.

When Iwata or Reggie start making comments like this, then maybe that's news worth covering Nintendolife.

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo DS Lite

TheAdza

I wish I still had my white one. But sadly I have it to my son who had broken both his Black Lite and Black DSi. Thankfully as he has gotten older his flame red 3DS is still in good condition. Probably better than mine. But both my DSiXL and 3DSXL are in perfect shape. And speaking of shape, the DSlite and 3DSXL are pretty much both my favourite redesigns.

Re: Ubisoft CEO Not Satisfied With Wii U Sales

TheAdza

I don't think Monster Hunter is going to provide the big sales push Nintendo needs. I have no idea what will. MH is a core type experience but core gamers abandoned Nintendo a long time ago. I hope the Nintendo faithful are a large enough group to keep the system selling.

Re: Rumour: Scribblenauts Unlimited UK Recall Due To Lack Of UK English

TheAdza

I've had no problems from the game here in Australia. I'm very glad it was released at launch. And lucky. Usually it's us Aussies that get screwed over all the time.

It does make me wonder though why a word game such as this wasn't developed with uk and American English in mind at the same time.

Oh and although we have uk English here I always say "zee" not "zed". I don't care if its "proper" or not.

Re: Filtering Miiverse Content Is Easier With A New Update

TheAdza

Does this update fix the freezing problem I keep having? I read that changing the settings to English only fixed the problem but my Miiverse keeps freezing every time I go into Miiverse. Having to hard reset my Wii U is something I would prefer not to do.

Re: Dragon Quest X Release Date Announced For Japan

TheAdza

Who knows if it will even be released outside of Japan. The only way it would be was if Nintendo published it. And if they did, I would doubt Nintendo would charge a monthly fee. I would however guess that they would charge a yearly fee after some free time to get hooked.

Re: Talking Point: The Year of Luigi Could Bring a Burst of Creativity

TheAdza

Seems like a good plan from Nintendo. Smash Mario down everyone's throats to boost sales of the 3DS and Wii U, back it up in the next phase of games with Luigi. I can only hope that the 3rd phase will be different. It will probably be the Zelda series though. Which is fine. But something new would be better. Still they are releasing that Yarn Yoshi game and DKCR3D during this phase, maybe in between the cycle of franchise pushes we will see some new games start to arrive.

Does anyone else get the feeling that we are seeing sequels and updates to games we don't really need (as much fun as they are) but no sequels and updates to games we do want? Where is F Zero? Where is Earthbound? Oh hello Mario Kart AGAIN.

Food for thought.

Re: Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D Swinging Onto 3DS

TheAdza

I like the idea of this game being portable, and no waggle for rolling will be awesome, but I was really expecting a sequel or two for this series. So it's a shame that its not DKCR2, but I will probably pick it up. I had fun playing it at home, but having it anywhere will be good too. My 3DS is going to be a monster of a system for great gaming experiences.

Re: New Information on Pokémon X & Y Coming Soon

TheAdza

Things I want from this game that won't be in it.

Fully Customisable characters.
Full 3D movement
Co op side quests. Online and off. More with DLC.
More intuitive trades and battles and online functions
No more clunky dreamworld.
Every event pokemon available over spotpass. Even if they are paid dlc. $1 Legendary Pokemon or special Shiny pokemon? Yes please.
A Wii U battle revolution type companion app
Exp or at least BP earned in multiplayer battles online and off
Get rid of the entralink. It makes no sense and is rather pointless.

I don't think any of these things will make it into the game. But i think they would make great additions, and go a long way in keeping the older pokemon fans from dropping away from the series while still having the same winning formula for the younger audience to get hooked into playing.

Re: Microsoft Almost Purchased Sega In Order To Compete With Nintendo And Sony

TheAdza

Nintendo should buy Sega and their IP's. Phantasy Star series, Sonic, Shining series, Skies of Arcadia, Virtua series, Streets of Rage, etc could be all Nintendo needs to compete with the other big boys. Sega used to be about expanding the market too but were a bit ahead of the times. The Dreamcast VMU is now fully realised with the Wii U gamepad. Casual games like Samba De Amigo released long before other music games like Guitar Hero took over. Typing of the Dead long before that Pokemon typing game, PSO being the first mainstream console multiplayer game, not to mention the DC being the first console having a modem built in as standard even if it was dial up. I'm not so sure Sega still have that spark about them any more, but if they did they would be a perfect fit for Nintendo's guiding hands these days.

Re: Preview: Skylanders Swap Force

TheAdza

Loved the first game. It was new. I watched my son play the second game, didn't really feel like it offered much different so I didn't play it. When I told my son about there being another new Skylanders game, even he said he wasn't interested in it. Good old Activision overkill at work again.

Re: Ubisoft Confirms Rayman Legends Delay Isn't Down To Development Issues

TheAdza

It's been getting so much hype from just about every major gaming website for a long time now. Half of me wants it to fade into obscurity, which it most likely will do by the time it gets released, and the other half doesn't want Wii U owners to boycott the game because we are already hard done by when it comes to 3rd party games on Wii U, and it would only go on to prove that 3rd party games don't do well on Nintendo consoles. Which can be true, but with decision making like this coming from publisher execs, who can really blame Wii U owners for turning their backs on a game that is essentially finished, just so it can be released simultaneously on other consoles? Stupid reasoning. The Wii U version needs no major advertising. It has been pimped for such a long time, these new news stories has the game in the public eye. If Ubi released it as they were going to, it would not only save them from the bad PR they are getting, but it wouldn't need any major advertising. Wii U drought of games. Release Rayman. Sell games. Then go multi platform and sell more later.

Re: Ubisoft: Nintendo Will Make "Necessary Changes" To Wii U

TheAdza

I'll bet nothing "came up". They are purely delaying it to appease the somewhat small amount of people (judging by the not so great sales of Origins) who would buy the game on PS3 or 360. If what they say is true that going multi platform is to satisfy customer demand (even though I think it isn't), them surely the outcry of fans on sites like this all over the world and Miiverse should sway them into back flipping and releasing the Wii U version early. I hope it does because if they don't I don't think they can save face.

Re: Rayman Legends No Longer a Wii U Exclusive, Delayed to September

TheAdza

Yeah its not that it's not exclusive any more that has me wearing my cranky pants. It's that the Wii U version must be 99.9% finished and they just wont release it. Why wait Ubisoft? The first game was a bit of a flop in sales on the HD systems, the Wii U is the perfect fit for a game like this. Now you have pissed off enough Nintendo gamers to the point of not wanting the game any more, and not being a first person shooter, well it's doubtful it will sell well on the other systems. Good move Ubisoft. Morons.

Re: More Jett Rocket II Details Hover Into View

TheAdza

Shin'en are definitely a developer that could use a little touch of that Nintendo magic. The talent is there to produce some gorgeous games, with some excellent ideas, but the execution isn't always spot on. Still, I have never played the first Jet Rocket, but I will be looking on with interest with this game.

Re: Talking Point: Wii U's Graphical Grunt is Laid Bare - Shall We Play Games Now?

TheAdza

I've been saying this for a while, but Nintendo really need to try and go it alone. By that I don't mean having no third parties on board, but that its a well known fact that 1st party software sells much more than 3rd party games on Nintendo consoles. If EA and Activision don't come to the party, it wouldn't be such a problem if Ninty owned more devs and published more games. Not a cheap option, but with all the money saved by not going all out on specs with the Wii U, Wii, DS and 3DS it should be going into securing more games for their systems, because gone are the days of 3rd party publishers flocking to Nintendo systems to sell their games. Without that, there is no steady stream of games because Nintendo at the moment cannot meet demand with their own first party games. Solution? Buy out more dev teams. With the amount of old IP that Nintendo has laying around doing nothing this approach could help them immensely as the gaming landscape changes, if Nintendo hope to carve out their niche, I believe this is their only way. I love that Nintendo have gone their own way with their hardware, but as the Wii proved, 3rd parties will put their blockbuster games on the higher spec consoles. The only counter for that is to have your own blockbuster games, and I don't think focusing on just having Mario and Zelda is going to cut it this time.

Re: Square Enix Laments "Increasingly Difficult" Console Market

TheAdza

Having Dragon Quest X as an online game was a bad decision. All Final Fantasy online games, bad decision. All FF games after an including XII were just not FF games any more. Level 5 knew what they were doing with Dragon Quest. 8 and 9 were amazing. And look at Ni No Kuni on the PS3. It's a fantastic true old school jrpg but modern in many ways also. If the next Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest 11 don't throw back to what made them great in the first place then Square-Enix deserve to go bankrupt. The fans have been absolutely screaming for a FFVII remake which is the most famous and popular FF of all time and very well could be a giant money spinner yet they won't make it. It's absolute lunacy.

Re: Nintendo Hints At An Additional Platform In The Future

TheAdza

A home console/portable tablet/phone hybrid console sounds like the best thing ever. If Nintendo had a home console that did everything the Wii U does like WiiTV and other non game functions, coupled with a controller that streams like the gamepad, that could be dual screen, could even be glasses free 3D like the 3DS, but with the ability to not only stream games from the console to it, but have hardware that will allow the games to be played totally portable. If both future Nintendo home and portable consoles featured the same architecture on the inside, it would only require one purchase of a single game and yet be playable either at home or on the go. Multiplayer asymmetrical or not could be achieved through classic style controllers or other streaming only screen controllers, or another controller from another persons system. Imagine finally having a pokemon game that is entirely portable yet playable on your large tv at home when your not out and about. Same for monster hunter and other street pass enabled games. This could be where Nintendo are going? If the Wii U doesn't sell as well as expected, Nintendo could find themselves trying to launch a new portable and home console at the same time. A costly venture for a company that has struggled most recently with its last two hardware launches being fairly close together. Obviously some games might stay on the base station like Wii Fit and other games that might use remotes, but most games will be developed so that both experiences both home and portable will be the same. There would be almost twice as many first party coming out as there wouldn't be teams working on a 3DS game and then a Wii U game next. It would just be the one game, and therefore more time for new games. I really don't know how a phone experience would enhance it, but having a wireless connection of some sort would be good for the portable side of it. One eshop. One platform, but two main ways to play. At home or portable. It might just be the only way Nintendo will survive in the aftermath of the smartphone/tablet scene with the added stress of new Sony and Microsoft consoles plus others like the Steam Console and TVs with cloud gaming capabilities. What seems to bring Nintendo undone isn't completely the lack of 3rd party games, it's just the lack of games in general. First party games sell well, but if Nintendos teams were focused on one experience rather than different games for different systems we would see a much higher rate of games released. I guess we will just have to wait and see but it's a good theory. The Wii U seems like a stepping stone in trying to get there.
