Re: Satoru Iwata Refutes Claim That Nintendo Is "Suffering" Right Now

TheAdza

I have no hopes that the Wii U will ever come close to the sales of the Wii. However I do still see it being a fairly good profit maker for Nintendo. Maybe not in the same way or as much as Sony and MS, but then again, since when does Nintendo march to any beat of a drum other than their own? Never.

Re: 3DS UK Success in 2013 Offset by Abysmal Wii U Figures

TheAdza

Poor Wii U. I bet the situation is even worse here in Australia.

I hope Lego City sold enough for Nintendo to publish another exclusive game. But with those figures, it's hard to imagine what games sold. All we know is that very few overall were sold. I think perhaps consumers are waiting on a price drop. One can argue the validity of second screen gaming and all the value it brings, but at the end of the day, Nintendo are asking a premium price for a system with current soon to be last generation graphics. It really should be much cheaper. And people are voting with their wallet. The perceived value of the Wii U is much less than what Nintendo think it is. With super cheap PS3's and such available now, plus the new Sony and M$ consoles hitting at Xmas, are Nintendo really arrogant enough to stand their ground selling their "overpriced" console against all these odds?

In any case, I still love my Wii U. I didn't at first with the Miiverse teething problems, and day1 firmware updates and slow loading UI, but its pretty good overall now, and with some awesome games lined up soon, I will be having a blast with this console. I just don't know how Nintendo are going to sell it to any non Nintendo gamers or casuals.

Re: Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara For Wii U "Has Been A Bit of A Nightmare" For The Producer

TheAdza

The whole bug things sounds legitimate. No matter what they did Nintendo would have got bad press.

Game delayed on Wii U, not on PS3 or 360 so NINTENDO SUCKS.

or Game releases on all 3 systems, Wii U version has bugs NINTENDO SUCKS!

Sadly, In this day and age, patches are a reality of gaming. So I think being a multi platform release, delaying it for a system that already cops way too much bad press was probably the wrong decision.

Re: Soapbox: Retail Games Cost Too Much To Download From The eShop

TheAdza

My 2 cents is that at launch, these games should carry their RRP, but that it would be a lot easier to swallow that larger sum if a proper account based system was in place. I like having my games on my system without carrying around carts, but I still do anyway. Some games also lend themselves more to being digital than others. I am having a great inner debate about Pokemon X/Y. Should I buy that ge digitally? It's something I will play, but I have so many other Pokemon games, the collector in me is saying buy at retail.

Older games should really be half price by now. Games like Mario Kart 7 and 3D Land could keep making Nintendo money if it was priced below the RRP now that they are not recent games and no longer stocked up much by retailers as so not to upset them.

In a perfect world, I would like a good $10 AUD cheaper than the RRP seeing as there isn't any account based system. If there was, I would deal with the full RRP for a few months, but 6 months later the price should drop. A year later even more. Also I believe Nintendo could offer some kind of system where retail carts could be installed onto a 3DS system. I don't know how this would work but obviously the cartridge would become useless while the game is on a system, but could be restored as long as the game comes off the SD card. They could even monetize that as a way of making money. I would pay a few bucks to transfer Mario Kart 7 to my system. I hardly ever play it anymore but if it was right there on my system I probably would give it more time. But I'm not going to spend $69.95 AUD for the privilege, especially considering the age of the game.

I didn't get around to buying Fire Emblem. Now that its been out for a while, I don't feel comfortable paying full RRP on the eShop for it. If and when there is a good sale on that game I will buy it. So far Nintendo did make OoT cheaper for a while. Perhaps they didnt get the sales they wanted and that's why there hasn't been many other digital sales of full retail games. It was a port of a 64 game that was already released physically, then digitally months later, and then put on sale. Surely they didnt expect sales to soar??

In any case, digital games are too expensive. I would like to see a reduction straight away, and see sales of older games. I'm sure they could extend their evergreen title sales even more if they were a bit more aggressive. Mario Tennis at $69.95? No thanks . $39.95 maybe. $29.95 yeah sure why not.

Re: Review: LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (Wii U)

TheAdza

Really? After making Undercover they couldn't make better use of the Gamepad? Undercover was awesome. Except for not having 2 player. This has co op but I think I will wait for the Lego Marvel game and see if that game fares any better with a Wii U version. Late ports should be much better.

Re: Wii U Summer System Update Pushed Back To The Fall

TheAdza

Am disappointed. Sick of Nintendo delaying everything. How can anyone be happy with Nintendo all but walking away from the Wii U with support for the first half of the year and beyond, just so they can have a big end of year? Already Mario Kart is pushed into NEXT year. Seriously. WTF Nintendo.

Thankfully the 3DS is keeping my Nintendo love alive..

Re: Iwata: Third Party Wii U Launch Titles Could Not Enjoy Brisk Sales As Many Were Ports

TheAdza

I didn't buy any of the launch and laugh window old ports. The only one that was even remotely on my radar was the Need for Speed game, but without local 2 player I gave it a miss. All reviews pointed to a sloppy choppy mess of old games made worse on the Wii U. Yet original games such as Zombie U and Scribblenauts Unlimited enjoyed great success. It really goes to show what kind of philosophy Nintendo are trying to prove with the Wii U. Make a game only for this system, a game that can only be made on this system, and watch the dollars fill your pockets. Instead we have most 3rd parties going multiplatform to maximise sales, leaving Wii U versions unimpressive and its features underused, and that's if we are lucky to see a Wii U version of a big game in the first place.

I still fail to see EA's logic though. Especially in the case of Mass Effect 3. How can they as a company have expected this game to sell when it was already old, had frame rate problems, no DLC, and had it compete with the entire ME Trilogy on the other systems for much the same price. Why wasn't the Wii U version the Trilogy? What on earth were they thinking? No wonder no one bought it. Their fault. Not Nintendo's or their fans.

Re: The Pokémon Company Lays Down The Law On Cheaters

TheAdza

Super strong pokemon I am totally against. But I have no problem with people using such devices to obtain pokemon that are extremely rare or event pokemon. That stuff might fly in Japan, but in the rest of the world, event pokemon should only be wifi.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Curious Decision to Monetise StreetPass

TheAdza

Streetpass as it is is perfect for Japan. But for western countries, initiatives like the European wifi spots being turned into stationary Streetpass spots is a good start, but there needs to be more of them, and there especially needs some kind of way to earn play coins without a limit (without cheating) and scrap the limits on how many hits at one time. Maybe sending a swap note could earn a visit from a friend to the Streetpass games. And more spotpass people being sent out like at e3. It's great advertising for many games. Get third parties in on the act.

Re: StreetPass Mii Plaza Update Brings New Paid Downloadable Games

TheAdza

Although I doubt that I will be able to get the most out of these games, I do reccomend them for people who do a lot of streetpassing. I was hoping that Nintendo would allow for more play coins to be earned per day. Sadly this isn't the case. A bit unfair for people who don't live in cities.

Re: Shin'en Ponders Over HD Version of Jett Rocket II

TheAdza

When the Wii U was lacking games, a Wii U version of 3DS games was fine, but with so much on the horizon, I think it might be time for devs to make new games for each console, not penny pinch. Most people won't buy two copies of the same game. Unless its really really really good.

Re: Time: Nintendo Is "Stumped" By The Wii U GamePad And Should Ditch It

TheAdza

I don't own a tablet at the moment. I do have a laptop and a smartphone. For browsing the web I used to use both my laptop and phone the most, but I am finding I am using the Gamepad more and more. Watching TV and checking out Miiverse, or looking up my favourite news sites such as this one. The Gamepad is really handy. Nintendo won't ditch it. I like the controller too for games too, playing a few games while ads are on TV. Or during. I think there is definitely more that can be done with it, but even when it's not being used to its full potential, whatever that may be, I still find it useful.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Wii U Lineup Makes Commercial Sense

TheAdza

I liked what a saw. Totally agree that it was a let down that Retro's game was DKCTF. However that game looks amazing and will be a day 1 purchase for me. As will most of the other titles on show here. I just wish all these games were coming this year. Then the Wii U would really be something to be reckoned with.

Re: Batman: Arkham Origins Has Specific Functionality For Wii U

TheAdza

why is DLC not happening on Nintendo platforms? Its very strange. How can these companies keep bagging on the WIi U for lacklustre sales of their games when they keep making their games inferior to other platforms. It doesn't take a genius to realize that having the Wii U game be the same if not better than the other versions will increase sales. But heres hoping that this trend ends soon.

Re: Nintendo "Feels Good" About How It Stacks Up Against Sony And Microsoft

TheAdza

hmmm, while I should have a decent Wii U games collection by the end of the year, I still don't think it will be enough for the average gamer to want the Wii U without a price cut. Having MK8 slip into next year is a bit of a problem.

Any way Im still hoping for the best. In any case, if people are smart, then Nintendo's only real competition will be from the PS4 as the Xbox One seems like its the most consumer unfriendly console ever to exist, But a price cut couldn't hurt as the PS4 is priced pretty competitively.
