Re: Nintendo Board Members Retain Roles After AGM as Share Value Remains Strong

Tender_Cutlet

@Will-75 Hi! I'm glad you picked up on my Zelda jibe - if honest, it was said tongue-firmly in cheek and with bright neon trolling hook...I actually own all those games you mention - and I'm afraid recalling any of them doesn't incline me to retract my statement! (Ok, ALBW was decent but it would be pretty impressive to make a mess of a clone of (IMO) the greatest game in the series.)
@Will-75 I for one don't claim to know anything Nintendo's business that isn't already public knowledge.
@Gunnerholic Well said

Re: Hands On: Logging More Flight Time With Star Fox Zero

@Kirk I was going to debate this but that choice of phrase "hopes and dreams" has got me thinking it wouldn't be worth it - how could I possibly convince someone otherwise when they feel that strongly?

One thing I will say however - and this is purely from my experiences, please don't take it in ill will -

Life is full of challenges; if you allow your "hopes and dreams" to depend upon strangers and don't take responsibility for them yourself then you are almost certain to go through life feeling let down. Remember it's just a game.

Re: Hands On: Logging More Flight Time With Star Fox Zero

Tender_Cutlet

@kirk - re you latter point - if you want to play Starfox in it's original way then there's always the original masterpiece to enjoy. I take it you own it? Why should Nintendo try and "emulate" or surpass a game that fulfilled it's potential? Modern tech would give them a cosmetic boost but would the end product be superior for a shiny new makeover? Look at PunchOut!! as an example. The Wii version pays homage to the the NES classic but underneath its visuals is a hollow, underwhelming experience compared to the original that despite its humble 8bits and modest character roster, squeezed every last drop out of its NES platform.

Re: Hands On: Logging More Flight Time With Star Fox Zero

Tender_Cutlet

@Kirk Starfox Doubledash or "Doubledive", "Doublebarrelroll"(?)! Pilot on pro controller, gunner on gamepad. Fixed!

Seriously though, best wait to play the finished game before jumping to so many conclusions. The bottom line is will it be fun? It doesn't matter what sub genre of shooter it can be pigeonholed into provided what's offered is fun to play...surely? Nintendo are always trying their best to innovate and they didn't release a carbon copy of an earlier starfox game on WiiU for the same reason there's no F-Zero or Metroid for ages. This is Star Fox U's clear point of difference and if that's what the developers want then that's their artistic license.

Re: Australian Rating Confirms That ZombiU is Shuffling Its Way to Xbox One

Tender_Cutlet

Doubt it will do well on the other systems. Zombii U benefitted from launch title profile and a point of difference from the usual family affairs on Nintendo. The zombie horror genre is well represented on the other systems and I suspect most PS/XBONE owners will find Zombii too plodding and frustrating to bother with - perhaps if they took out the good old fashioned (frightfully British) cricket bat and gave the protagonist (for example) a baseball bat or a crowbar it might come across...slightly edgier!?

Re: Devil's Third

Tender_Cutlet

If it scores over 80-85 at review, I will support this. I really hope it does ok both critically and financially as an exclusive. Nintendo really should have made more of a song and dance about this at E3 - from what few releases they have pending this year it is the only totally mature title with a release date! Why so much focus on Yoshi and so little on this when they've invested so much in the publishing?

Re: Sony Is Assisting With The Creation Of Shenmue 3, Chances Of A Nintendo Release Significantly Lowered

Tender_Cutlet

@bitleman I disagree. The development of Shenmue was the gaming equivelent of an Elton John birthday party - a massive, extravagent vanity project; a chance for Sega to flex theIr muscles and show everyone just how far ahead of the rest of the industry DC was in 1999. It was never about profits. You are judging the game from the perspective of the modern industry and not from its place in time.

Re: Sony Is Assisting With The Creation Of Shenmue 3, Chances Of A Nintendo Release Significantly Lowered

Tender_Cutlet

@OMC79 If there were a queue of said rich businessmen ready to back the revival of an old gaming franchise then I'm sure they would have made progress these past years. Given Sega's stance and even Sony's approval to test the water with KS, I'd summise that not many moneypeople share my confidence in the project!

I think you and I are going to have to agree to disagree on our perspectives of this!

Re: Sony Is Assisting With The Creation Of Shenmue 3, Chances Of A Nintendo Release Significantly Lowered

Tender_Cutlet

@OMC79 I sense you feel high profiles like Suzuki aren't deserving of support via KS. In fairness to him, we are talking about a AAA game here and not an Indie title that could cost less that $100,000 to make., I don't think any developer has the personal fortune to fund such a project from their own pockets. As for the honesty of this all - what's dishonest about (for example) offering $100 in exchange for a $40 game and over $60s worth of merch of collectable value to a fan of the franchise?

Re: Sony Is Assisting With The Creation Of Shenmue 3, Chances Of A Nintendo Release Significantly Lowered

Tender_Cutlet

@OMC79 I think after 14 years of frustration that Suzuki has enough motivation to make this work! Sega threw $100m at him to make the original and that result didn't disappoint the players.

Remember this KS is led by Suzuki himself - the more he raises, the more he can personally invest in the game and the less overall control Sony will have on the finished article - which is a ray of hope for Xbox and Nintendo fans!

Re: Sony Is Assisting With The Creation Of Shenmue 3, Chances Of A Nintendo Release Significantly Lowered

@sinalefa

Suzukisan said at the conference it had been his goal to go via Kickstarter since learning of it 3 years ago. Shenmue is his baby, not Sony's. Sounds like Suzuki has a point to prove to those obstructing him at Sega and this is a very high profile vote from the public with their wallets. Sony would obviously have been happy to have costs subsidised.

A PC version is approved because there is no direct competition with the Playstation (and the console market).

Sega has a stake in the rights to the original two games, they wouldn't just give them out to Suzuki and Sony for free - the stretch goal of the back story covers these prospective costs.

Re: Sony Is Assisting With The Creation Of Shenmue 3, Chances Of A Nintendo Release Significantly Lowered

Tender_Cutlet

@OMC79 Fair enough. Isn't the beauty of Kickstarter that you can choose to invest (in exchange for perks and rewards)? Given this title has swept past it's starter mark and now will get made, aren't you free to sit back and pick up a copy at release for the RRP? Noone's forcing you to part with more than you want to in order to get this made. You are right though, anyone with internet access should have been able to conclude there was an appetite for this game. Sony for one really didn't need to push the kickstarter approach.

Re: Sony Is Assisting With The Creation Of Shenmue 3, Chances Of A Nintendo Release Significantly Lowered

Tender_Cutlet

This news was the jawdropper of my E3. I have sat on the fence with PS4 this whole gen and was only prepared to get down if a sequel to Red Dead was announced - this announcement came totally out of left field! I am keen to back the kickstarter in anyway I can as this is one game that NEEDS to get made - allegiances aside, Shenmue is without doubt a hall of famer in the pantheon of video games. However I don't own a PS4 or powerful PC...depending on the given launch date for NX, I will see whether I manage to get a PS4 in time to properly make the most of this generation that's rapidly passing me by - I can only justify purchasing one new system and Holidays 2017 might be the big one for Nintendo...on the topic of a WiiU release, I now see this as slim to no chance - Sony have grabbed a real coup with a potential exclusive. I cannot believe any of the other top publishing houses underestimated the demand for Shenmue 3?! This game could have been made years ago as a Nintendo exclusive had the big N really paid attention to what's been trending for ages all over relative gaming sites. As to whether Suzuki would bother coding a port for Nintendo? If NX is out by then, then a Wii U version is out of the question. A lot might depend of NX's early momentum should a port come out for that...

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3 Digital Event?

Tender_Cutlet

What's with all the Metroid hate? On the face of it, it's a good idea - take a well regarded franchise (Metroid), put it out on their standardbearing platform (3DS), give it a legacy link to Metroid Prime Hunters and really push the coop mulitplayer strategy they're seemingly in pursuit of...noone's whinging about the (only) Zelda announcement which is basically the same premise with ALBW and Four Swords...

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3 Digital Event?

Tender_Cutlet

Grow up, all you whingers. It wasn't good but let's not get all emo over it. Time to face facts - Nintendo is a profit driven business and Iwata's mandate is to squeeze every cent he can out of us consumers until NX is ready to cover Wii U's lacklustre sales. This means less focus on a traditional Animal Crossing game with a one off purchase price and limited DLC and more on whipping the Amiibo cash cow. This also means less focus on WiiU games and more support for the bouyant 3DS. They've tried keeping everyone satisfied (cos they know a mere five new games each isn't enough for you) and in a gasp attempt to stop you all moaning, they've started merging all their franchises to give each of your favourites some representation on this gen- as Nintendo inhouse don't have time or support to work with each IP individually to your expectations - hence FZero DLC in Mario Kart, Mario & Luigi with Paper Mario, AC with Mario Party, Fire Emblem with whoever designs an Anime style game...stop moaning at Nintendo and Iwata - it's not their fault they have shareholders who expect yearly growth after we've all thrown our wallets at them all for decades. They cannot please you all and god you are all so very spoilt! Have you all forgotten a time in your lives when being given a single game a year felt like a blessing?
