@Uncle_Franklin It's certainly not a genre for everyone. And a few times my wife and I were annoyed by how the progression works. But the story was interesting all the way through and it's fun that Nintendo feels comfortable making games that aren't their huge IPs. I'm glad it was released!

@jedgamesguy I'll always find the word "maturity" to be a goofy way to describe a thing, hehe. Reminds me of folks saying the GameCube or Mario Sunshine was "kiddie." I remember asking a person in college if they got all the Shines in that children's platformer and they told me that wasn't the point 🤷‍♂️

All that being said, if someone told me they were just new Toriyama (RIP 😭) art I would have believed them. They look great!

Freakin' awesome that we're getting a new Mario RPG! Looking forward to the 🏝️ adventure

On a separate, semi-unrelated note, I do hope that Sony is able to cobble together something with the mess of a launch from Concord. I very rarely get any joy over a game failure since so many regular working people put their lives into creating something they thought would be fun. The reveal trailer made it seem like a pretty fun GotG style single player game and then they mentioned arena/hero shooter and instantly killed my interest. Will be curious to see where it all ends up.

@OctoCallie20 How did it team up to kill updates for NH? And who/what did it team up with? The age is important because there were virtually no new updates to PC by the time NH came out. No development time was taken away from NH to make PC a bigger game. What you're saying is fictious because you're upset that Nintendo didn't have more updates for NH after the major DLC.

And of course they can change their tune about microtransaction, but we can only live in the world that we know, and so far they said there won't be any.

It's totally cool that you don't like mobile games and it's a very valid point that they are always chasing the easy buck, which is crappy. I'm not a fan of them either. But to spout hateful, angry, made-up nonsense because you dislike them is wild.

@OctoCallie20 Yikes bro. This seems like a totally reasonable and levelheaded take 😬First up, "meeting its demise" after 7 years is pretty incredible. That's a long time for any game to be active. Second, how did it kill New Horizons? Pocket Camp out like 3 years before New Horizons existed. And it's not like Nintendo spent time developing PC instead of NH. Third, I'm sure plenty of people will happily support the game in an offline state. Especially since they said no microtransactions will be included. It's expected that any kind of live service game will eventually shutdown and it's pretty rad that they are even bothering with an offline mode for people to keep on playing.

@Savage_Joe Club Nintendo was awesome! That Mario & Crew statue was sweet and I have the posters framed on a wall still. All that being said, comparing this to that is sorta backwards. You'd really need to compare the platinum coin rewards as those are the direct correlation to the old Club Nintendo (and definitely nowhere near as good, but there are some neat ones here and there).

And I know I'm in the minority on this website but I love being able to play the old games via the service, getting the random monthly(ish) updates of games, and playing them online with friends!

@rjejr All's good mate. Thanks for responding. I guess we can agree to disagree! By all accounts you agree that $500 isn't that much since it's a cheap smartphone. I totally agree that parents aren't buying a $500 console so their kids can throw it into their backpacks (I'm just going to overlook this altogether since I wager any parent that doesn't care about $300 probably won't mind spending $500 for that console).

At the end of the day, all of your points logically suggest that even at $500, scalping will still be a problem. It will not slow it down at all. Will that price point stop a devil-may-care child/parent relationship? Maybe. Sure. But, my friend, how many real sales do you think that actually accounts for? A few percent at most? There are plenty of parents who bought a Switch for their kid and that kid uses a case and takes care of it.

At the end of the day, I'm not even arguing with your ideas. That's your take and that's super cool. I have no idea why I responded to your comment in the first place, haha. I've been a lurker on this site for 10 years or something but made an account to chime in... shrug

All I'm trying to get across is that a price increase of $200 will not impact the scalping market at all. And, yeah! I hope they really do something awesome like make millions at the start. Shortages at console launches suck.

@rjejr Sorry to dig into this more but you are connecting points seemingly at random to try and make a cohesive argument. Your point about parents buying an expensive electronic device has absolutely no bearing on a console being unavailable to purchase (besides, plenty of parents buy their kids smartphones which can easily run more than $500 these days). Then there is a lengthy discussion about the semantics of "sold out" which came totally out of left field since the discussion was about how increasing the price of a "thing" would stop scalping. You then proceed to explain how your original point doesn't make any sense by explaining that the more expensive PS5 was not available for months (and, while you didn't mention this, was a hot eBay item for a long time).

The crux of your original post was to offer a suggestion that increasing the price will slow down scalping. UltimateOtaku91 said having an expensive console like the PS5 did not slow down scalping. You have not offered up any reasonable data to showcase why a more expensive Switch will slow down scalping. Obviously, if they charge like $1000 it will slow it down, but that will also simply slow down sales all around. Whatever the price of the Switch is, assuming Nintendo doesn't go off the deep end and charge more than $500, won't slow down scalping. Period. Unless there are measures in place to make it impossible for people to get ahold of a bunch of them OR Nintendo truly has enough systems in the market, scalping will be a problem.
