To me, they're basically super Wii Remotes, which is a'okay with me as I loved the Wii Remote!
Not to mention when you think about it, these things actually offer a pretty good value. Sure, the $80 price tag may seem a bit steep, but you're technically getting two controllers in one box for less/about the same as what it would be to buy two DS4s or XB1 controllers brand new. They also come with quite a bit of impressive tech stuffed in them; I'm honestly surprised they got them down to the price they did!
Also, I dunno if I agree with all these complaints about the d-pad. I mean...it looks exactly like Sony's, and I don't remember anyone disliking theirs quite as much as I'm seeing people dislike the Joy-Con's. Oh well, to each their own.
About time! My guess is that we'll learn the name and maybe see what it looks like tomorrow, with a full blown reveal announced in the trailer for sometime in November.
While it's cool for people who don't own a Wii U, I think I'll stick with my Wii U copy. I don't really see a need to double-dip on this one, seeing as how it doesn't seem to differ from the Wii U version all too terribly much.
A fantastic surprise, that's for sure. I can't wait to play this one; it looks like it'll be a lot of fun!
...Although, it does remind me that I still need to finish Pikmin 3, lol. Ah well, I'll get to it sometime after Fire Emblem Fates and Twilight Princess HD...
This was probably one of the best things to come out of the Direct. Having a Mario Sports title that combines all of the most popular Mario sports franchises (and horseback riding, for some reason) makes a ton of sense, and this one shows a heck of a lot more promise than the last Sports compilation they did. Granted, Sports Mix wasn't all that bad in my opinion, but I will admit the sports selection in it was...odd. Mario Dodge Ball, anyone?
Oh yeah, Wii U sales spiking downwards ever since the Splatoon hype ended is totally why they're doing these ports. It does make quite a bit of sense from the business side of things, though, so I can't really say it's a bad idea.
However, I do think it's fair to say it comes off as a tad...lazy, with the way they're handling it. Also confusing. Very, very confusing. I guess we'll just have to see how it turns out. Who knows? Maybe everything will be fine and they'll keep the original online functionalities intact along with the new local options.
While this idea sounds pretty good in theory, no online capabilities would pretty much destroy the entire purpose of it, and the fact that it has features intentionally ripped out from the Wii U version kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
There is still the possibility of online sharing, though, as they never said anything about it not being in there. It is strange that they didn't mention it, though, so I'm going to choose to be cautiously optimistic and hope for the best, but Nintendo's been weird with their online functionalities lately. For whatever reason, they've been obsessed with local couch play on a system that's supposed to be portable this generation, and it's definitely a head scratcher.
I will say that this and the Yoshi's Woolly World port are pretty much Nintendo saying "Yeah, um, the Wii U doesn't sell, so um...yeah, here's some Wii U-to-3DS ports. Please look forward to NX!"
While it certainly is a frustrating situation, Nintendo has every legal right to do this as the Metroid franchise is their IP. They have every right to dictate what does and doesn't happen to it, and protecting one's own intellectual property is important these days. I mean, if I had a franchise that was as popular as Metroid and someone did something with it without my consent, I would probably have some mixed feelings about it.
I highly doubt Nintendo did this just because they felt like it; they did it to make sure their IP is only being used by authorized parties. I mean, Nintendo doesn't just sit there all day going "Mwhahaha, that'll show those pesky Metroid fans who's boss!", they do these things for a reason, and that's to make sure that their IP is protected. You can't have double standards, I'm afraid, and if they allowed this fan game to stay up, what happens when someone comes in and uses their IP in a negative way? You can't just take down one and not the other; that's just not how the world works. I honestly feel bad for the guys who are in charge of sending out these C&D orders. I imagine it must be terribly sad to have to be the guy who says "Yeah, I know you were just doing this because you really love the series, but it goes against copyright law, so..." and then see the reaction to it online.
This game is truly a testament to the dedication that Metroid's fans have towards the series, and I think it's superbly done! I even plan to give it a go at some point. However; even if I disagree with Nintendo's actions right now, I do respect that it is within their legal right to do these things, and if I were in their shoes I would have begrudgingly done the same. It's a tough call, but it sadly is a tough call that has to be made.
Awesome! Hopefully this'll be the beginning of a full year of Pokemon celebration. Bring on Pokemon Z!
Hmm, 5 minutes, though? A bit surprising, but we all should keep in mind that X & Y got announced in an 11 minute Direct, with most of it being a look back at the series.
Good on Nintendo of America! There's too much of that kinda crud in entertainment anyways, the more it's shunned, the better!
There truly is a problem in entertainment nowadays with not just sexualizing characters of both genders, but also with characters that are particularly young. It's truly disgusting, and all I can say is that I hope and pray that someday it'll get better. It is a VERY serious problem that, along with other problems such as hyper-violence and excessive profanity, needs addressing in the entertainment industry.
Nice! It sounds like from here on out, most of the characters going into development will be fan-favorites and ballot choices. For me personally, I'm still really crossing my fingers for Inklings, Paper Mario, and Shantae! Oh, and I'm REALLY hoping for Fourside to come back as stage DLC. That stage was the bomb in Melee, probably my top favorite Smash stage period!
In all seriousness, though, I'm skeptical this will turn out well. The only saving grace that the Boom series has is the cartoon. Who knows, though! Maybe Sanzaru Games will surprise us and make something at the very least comparable to the Sly game they worked on a few years back.
Here's hoping this comes over to the West! I would love to dress up my Inkling as Squid Girl; it would especially be perfect for matches where I'm on the blue team.
I can't wait for this year's E3! Nintendo out of all of the companies present have the biggest question marks. With most of their heavy hitter titles already announced and confirmed for this year/next year, what surprises do they have left up their sleeve for fall/winter releases? There are all kinds of rumors ranging from Paper Mario, Metroid Prime 4, and even a Wii U Animal Crossing, so it's certainly gonna be interesting to see what actually ends up being true. For me personally, I'm REALLY hoping for those Wii U Animal Crossing rumors to be true, but hey, I wouldn't mind some DLC info on games like Smash, Mario Kart, or Splatoon either.
Looks like a lot of fun! I probably won't be playing it, though; I already got Minecraft and Terraria for when I get in a sandbox mood.
Even so, I hope this turns out well for Lego and Travelers Tales, as it looks like it could be pretty big if it allowed the same amount of freedom Minecraft does (hopefully with more guidelines and policing; Minecraft's online community is as toxic as it gets, sadly. )
While some extra modes at launch would've been nice to help diversify the online a little bit, I personally feel like the game is fine in its current state. We have loads of free content updates on the way with not too long a wait, and I'm sure Nintendo will probably announce even more at E3. I actually support and approve of the idea of waiting until enough people are at level 10 before ranked goes live; there's nothing worse than sitting in a lobby waiting for enough players to join a match. Plus, it helps newer players learn the ins-and-outs of the game before getting into the hardcore stuff like Ranked Battle, so, in a sense, it'll help make sure everyone is on an even playing field when it comes to skill and time spent on the game.
Not too terribly surprised about this since they've been saying for a year or two now that they've been looking in to smart devices, although I am a little surprised that their already teasing their next piece of hardware.
I'm not all that worried about how Ninty's mobile venture is gonna go, because even if it's not Nintendo themselves developing the games (in this case it's Dena), they will always be there to supervise and make sure that the games have the same Nintendo charm and quality about them. Hyrule Warriors is a perfect example of this, while the game was being developed by Koei Tecmo, Nintendo was still there to make sure that it met their standards, and it turned out to be one of the Wii U's best surprises last year (at least in my opinion). The only thing I'm nervous about is if they only support the Apple OS, given the iPhone is increasingly popular in Japan, where Nintendo is based. As someone who much prefers Android over Apple (and some instances, even over MS Windows) I hope Nintendo throws Android phones/tablets a bone so that their games can be accessible to all of the smart device market rather than a single branch.
What a cool story! It's really nice to see some sites still reporting on stories like this, especially since more times than not the only stuff that gets reported on nowadays is all the dark and gloomy stuff in the world. I think with how pessimistic and bitter society tends to be nowadays, we can all sometimes forget good stuff like this can happen, so it always makes my day to read stuff like this.
