Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Suikoden I & II HD Remaster

SilentS

I am so tempted in getting this since I loved the originals when they first came out (never got around to beating the 2nd though), but as with most remasters, I was concerned if there were any alterations/edits (more often than not, censorship) to the game for the worse that you often hear about. If this stays true to the original, then this would be an easy buy for me

Re: Nintendo Left Sony "Standing At The Altar" With SNES Disk Add-On, Says Former PlayStation Exec

SilentS

It is comical how often this topic comes up, yet virtually you NEVER hear the reason why Nintendo "left Sony at the Altar". While it is widely agreed that Nintendo did a crap move, but on the other side Sony was highly greedy in their demands that would have screwed over Nintendo for that partnership.

Two wrongs never make a right, but only paying attention to one side of the story always skews the truth.

Now, if they went through with it, it is hard to say how well it would have turned out. It could have just been like the Sega CD add-on, a One-and-Done time, or could have been the start of something great (but that is wishful thinking). But no matter what could have been, the current landscape could be vastly different.

Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Asks Fans To "Boycott" Third Game After PlatinumGames Wage Fallout

SilentS

So many comments...

Anyways, usually when something like this happens, the old "3-sides of the story" rule comes into place. Accusers side, defenders side, and the truth that is somewhere in between and off to the side a little. Like always, there should be more to the story. But after seeing how entitled Taylor conducted herself about this topic, I am less inclined to believe her side as the full truth.

Is the $4k reasonable? I can't say. How much did she get paid for each of the last two games? How long did it take to do them? How long would it take to do the third? Not to mention I am sure they still have unused dialog from the previous games that they could have used as well in the third, which would cut down on needed lines to record. From the sounds of it, it seems that she wanted a raise and threw a tantrum because she didn't get it.

For the average person, yeah $4k may seem like a decent wage (or a lot in some instances), but other factors come into play that are not often covered in stories like these for context.

Re: Atari Anniversary Collection Full List Of Games Possibly Revealed In Retailer Leak

SilentS

Quite a few old titles that I used to own as a kid. Definitely going to keep an eye on this, just not sure what system yet. Now, I would love to see a list like this with the old Activision games from that time, also with a 103 game list.

Granted there are other games from now defunct devs I would love to play again, but getting a collection of those I think would be difficult.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Is A Big Believer In Blockchain And "Play To Own"

SilentS

I get what he is saying, but there should be a limit on what should and should not be done. As an example, I myself have invested decades into an online game (don't play it anymore, but still pop in once in a while). Originally started it in the alpha stage in '96, played regularly and became well known over the years following till I got tired of the company running it. Being an online subscription based game, obviously I would love to recoup that back if I could.

Yet, the blockchain concept in general is not something I want to bother with, nor would want companies have another tool to nickle and dime us even more than what they already do. In the end I would say we are better off without it.

Re: Nintendo Celebrates 20 Years Of GameCube In New Smash Bros. Event

SilentS

I still have all my old GC games, but no system (lent it to my sister after I got the Wii, only to later find out from her "You never gave it to me. I never had it"). Wish I had something to play it on now that scales correctly to large 4k TV's. There were definitely some real gems to be played.

Re: Random: Krillin Can Now Apparently Revive Himself In Dragon Ball FighterZ

SilentS

Meh, does not matter if it makes sense or not, just rewatch the part of the fight where the Dragon is summoned. The wish is granted when it is implied he died from Gohan's words. After they all come back to life, he shows up again.

I am not saying I believe it, I said "Depending on your point of view" of the part in question.

Re: The Konami Code Turns 35 With A Special Album Of Lo-Fi Gradius Tracks

SilentS

My best memory of the code was when I was at a friends place playing Gradius III on the SNES. When my friends dad was playing, I gave him the SNES version of the code (doing LRLR instead of left/right/left/right). He was ecstatic obviously, so his friend asked for it on his turn. I gave him the NES version while watching his expression. Needless to say, it was priceless as he watched his ship explode, and dropping the controller while totally stunned.... Quickly followed by him chasing me out the door swearing at me.

30 years later I still chuckle whenever that memory pops into my mind.

Re: Multiple Parties Reportedly Interested In Buying Square Enix

SilentS

Microsoft, Sony, EA, Tencent, Nintendo...... Personally, I think if they really do sell, then Nintendo would do the least amount of damage overall, followed closely by MS. EA and Tencent usually meddle way too much and end up destroying the companies. Sony would further push their censorship ideals.

Re: The Legend Of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV Announced For Nintendo Switch

SilentS

This series has always been on my radar, but I have such a huge backlog I haven't gotten around to it. With how often I have to work away from home, I would rather get the entire series on the Switch than on the PS4. With that said, I probably wont get to play it any time soon unless XSeed is convinced to port over the first two games.

Re: Nintendo Won't Be Required To Offer eShop Pre-Order Refunds In Norway Or Germany

SilentS

@FTL I mostly agree with you. I used the preload as a cutoff day because, as far as I am aware, they happen hours to a day or two prior to the games release. So saying "Up until X days before preload/release" would be the deadline to cancel any pre-orders. After that, no refunds. As for the games being half finished upon release, that has always irked me, which is why, from some companies, I will never buy from in the first handful of months of a release because of missing content and/or bugs that they are becoming known for.

In the end, it should always be "Buyer Beware". Only pre-order IF you are ready to commit to whatever it is without changing your mind soon after. Best way is to wait till the last minute for digital downloads since there is no stock to worry about. Use the rest of the time to do your homework on it first.

Re: The SNES PlayStation Was Going To Have A Super FX Chip Built-In

SilentS

"a joint venture by Sony and Nintendo which was canned when the latter got cold feet and left the former standing at the altar."

Hasn't this been gone over a million times by now? Nintendo embarrassed Sony only because Sony was greedy and demanded too much for a "partnership". It was not cold feet, but rather to protect their own interests. Two wrongs don't make a right, but at least state it for what it was, a bad deal that fell through.

As for the topic at hand, it would have opened up possibilities for studios at the time to take advantage of it. Back then it would have been a big deal, but looking at it now, technology progressed vastly since that time where the FX chip would have been mainly used for a lone generation. However with all the great games back then, it could have made some of them possibly even better.

Re: Review: Dragon Quest 1, 2 & 3 Collection - Relive The Formative Years Of Japan's Favourite RPG

SilentS

I still have all 3 games for the NES. So think I will stick with them on there. The only reason I even bothered getting into that series to begin with was because Nintendo Power had a promo going on where you subscribe to them, they threw the first game in for free (came with a map and a mini guidebook).

For those who are looking to play the first game for the first time, do not expect much for a quick game. You can only level up to level 20, but it takes forever since most gold you can get per battle is 200 and most exp (providing you even find, never mind killing a Metal Slime) is 115. But it is a good entry level game for those with patience and want something simple.

Re: Nintendo Explains How It Would Combat A Hostile Takeover

SilentS

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't there a Japanese law stating the a foreign company cannot own a controlling stake in a Japanese company? If that is the case, then there would never be a worry of anybody outside of Japan trying to buy Nintendo, but rather somebody from within.
