Last Summer Nintendo announced plans for a Nintendo Gallery, a museum of sorts that will "share Nintendo’s product development history and philosophy with the public". It's using the site of a now out-of-use manufacturing facility, which was also used for product repairs before seeing its workload shifted elsewhere; you can see a concept image for the facility above.
Intriguingly, Asahi has reported that in the process of preparing ground the remains of a Yayoi Period village (late 3rd Century) were discovered. The city council has reportedly been working on two areas of the site since February; it's found pottery, a 'potential ritual' site, earthenware plates and indications of buildings.
The report states that the dig will end at the close of April, at which point it will be filled in and construction will resume.
Nintendo is due to open the Gallery in the 2023/34 financial year, with Asahi reporting a target opening in 2023.

Did they found the F-Zero, Mother and Kid Icarus skeletons that Nintendo have been hiding?
Someone tossed a bomb at a tree.

Can't wait for 2034
Whoa, neat
I wonder if Ganon is buried there?
Ahem
That's Asahi Shimbun, "mate"!
@Kermit1 Considering that BOTW's version of Hyrule is supposed to be based on the Kyoto area... your question is quite valid.
Come to think of it... it must be scary to be a geologist or archaeologist in Japan. Ordinary civilians get attacked in broad daylight by 20th-century megafauna, or just walking down the street. I don't want to know what happens when you go deliberately into the buried strata, or underground...
Did they find Monty Mole during the dig?
On a serious note, definitely a neat find. Ancient human civilizations and cultures fascinate me.
If it was Jomon period, they might uncover BOTW guardians & shrines! (Nintendo's making-of-Botw videos said some of the design was Jomon inspired.)

@CANOEberry HAHA, wow that's so cool. (not the killing but wow)
Kakariko Village...
@CANOEberry Those are definitely some "random encounters." What a great trailer.
So Nintendo Museum/Mario World ghost house? I’m in.
"due to open the Gallery in the 2023/34 financial year"
That is quite the large target date. I guess planning for future problems/disasters to hinder development?
Glad they're going through with the dig. Villages that old need to be analyzed before everything's covered in modern construction. Shocked they'll get through the dig by the end of next week, I would hope for at least another month to be thorough, but this is still fine. Hopefully won't miss out on anything too significant.
It belongs in a... Different Museum
NGL, this sounds like a plot setup to a horror movie.
@SilentS
What do you mean!!! That is a strict timetable they have going on there.
Edit: you can probably already tell, but this is sarcasm. Past sarcastic comments have been taken very serious by people before.
@blindsquarel Perhaps, but look at how well that turned out for Duke Nukem Forever!
