Re: UPL's Top-Down Shmup XX Mission Is This Week's Arcade Archives Release

Shiryu

I see you gents all giving XX Mission a thumbs down on the comments and calling Hamster lazy because of some of their releases without any of you acknowledging that these games are cult classics in Japan for the Japanese audience. It is not always about us, folks. And don't even get me started on the nightmare that is to secure the re-release rights for some of the names I hear you calling out as well.

Re: Square Enix Indie Division Teases Imminent Nintendo Switch Announcement

@Deltath The explanatio0n is actually quite simple: I have lived my entire professional life sitting around PCs and servers, so as you might imagine I am not very keen in going home to enjoy some video games... by sitting in front of a PC, namely a game that intertwined in my mind as a Super Nintendo console exclusive. Video games consoles = bliss / PCs = work.

@Deltath Ah yes, we have been down this path before... Please understand Secret of Mana is a very important title from my entire life as a gamer and I picked up the remake on STEAM day 1. I was not as offended as "the internet" and enjoyed my time with the game, but the more I played it, the more I wanted to play it properly on the Switch instead of PC. I still do in fact, and I hope that Square-Enix lets me one day. Video games are a universal language but even so extremely subjective. That is why my mech GOTY 2019 DAEMON X MACHINA was not even in the runners up for NL GOTY, it "merely" got a 7/10 in our review and I do understand some people consider it utter crap, but lile the Secret of Mana 2.5D remake I ended up enjoying my time with the game by a much wider margin than expected.

Re: Super Tennis Is Coming To Switch, But It's Not The One You Think

Shiryu

The year 1991...

Nintendo - "Hello there! We would like to trademark the word 'Super'!"
Supremer Trademark Leader - "Erm... no."
Ninty - "Oh well! In that case we would like to trademark the word 'Tennis'!"
STL - "... are you perhaps jesting?"
Ninty - "Ok... how about 'Super Tennis', eh? tow for one?"
STL - "Security! In my office, please."
Ninty- "...oh well, we did out best. I'm sure it will be fine!"

Now, the year is 2020... SUPER TENNIS returns! But not really!

Re: Review: SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays - Brilliant Strategy RPG Action Bursting With Content

@burninmylight Sadly I never see these games going down in price at all. Also, I do believe my Backlog of Shame is already the stuff of legends (from a total of 302 retails games + 668 digital ones) and for what is worth there has not been a single day where I didn't play Ring Fit Adventure and SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays since both games arrived at my home. Heck, even today I look foward to test a few new Mobile Suits I developed last night. It is expensive, but considering the amount of game time I'm getting out of it and despite just making my backlog stagnate, it is time well spent.

Re: Mini Review: Gigantic Army - A Cybernator Homage That's Almost Over Before It Starts

Shiryu

@retro_player_22 Erm... not everyone in the world is a speed-runner (I've checked, the world record stands at 16:48) so most folks will not be completing Cybernator in a quarter of an hour.

Metal Marines is an exceptional take on the genre by LucasArts but no way they would have ever make the game if they had no played Valken before. The true shame is the amount of cuts made to the Western version of the game, because Assault Suits Valken is a true masterpiece of mecha platform run'n'gun with a plot that almost screams Gundam lawsuit. I always saw Metal Marines as a spiritual sequel made in America, but I still prefer and stand by my top choice of the Japanese original.

@silverthornne I have had in all my time with the game a single crash-to-dashboard. Namco Bandai recommends that you power cycle the Switch every time you start the game instead of resuming or putting the unit in sleep mode (the crashes seem to be RAM related). They are still investigating what causes that and hope to have a definitive fix in a future patch. Luckily thanks to the quick save slots I lost no progress at all, even caught the crash on video and left it in the final upload.
