Ten whole years since the release of the last game in the series, Bandai Namco has announced Captain Tsubasa: Rise Of New Champions for Nintendo Switch and other platforms.
Based on the manga created by Yoichi Takahashi, the game is set to follow the athletic exploits of Tsubasa Ozora and the glory his teammates experience under his leadership. If you've missed previous entries or haven't heard of the series before, the game is essentially an arcade soccer experience which will no doubt feel right at home for fans of Inazuma Eleven.
The series' anime aesthetic will return in full force here, with players being able to pull off a variety of offensive and defensive moves on the field as they play. Multiple gameplay modes have been promised for the title, including Story Modes, Versus Mode, and Online Versus Mode.
Here's a feature list provided by Bandai Namco:
- Part of the globally popular Captain Tsubasa series, this title has anime-like graphics that are familiar even overseas.
- The detailed presentation of every single style of our popular characters will heat up battles of the new Captain Tsubasa game!
- Super plays clashing in high-speed! “Arcade football action”
- This title adopts the arcade football genre that allows gamers to experience super plays in real time, one of the reasons Captain Tsubasa games are so popular.
- This is an exhilarating action game that enables players to enjoy scoring goals while performing dream skills against opponents at high speed by mastering the simple controls.
No release date has been provided just yet so we'll make sure to keep an eye out for any further announcements. In the meantime, though, we'd love to hear your thoughts.

@Arnold-Kage Football fans not walking into a store looking for FIFA and walking out with this. Just like MarioKart is not a substitute for FORZA or GT for people who are fans of cars.
2 very different things.
Super mario strikers: Anime edition
I'm a sucker for goofy sports animes.
I'll be keeping an eye on this game.
Did somebody say 'arcade football game'? In the 21st Century!?
About ****ing time. Sign me up.
Superb. I know absolutely nothing about the series but it's an arcade football game from a big publisher in 2020. It doesn't need to be great, just good fun and I'm happy. I still play Super Sidekicks 2 and 3 regularly and love them.
Cool. Now how about a video game adaptation of Princess Nine?
I still have some of the mangas around and used to love the anime, when I was a kid. I hope this'll turn out decent. Might be something I'd possibly pick up on a sale one day!
Speaking off, how about bringing Mario Strikers back? EA no longer cares about arcade sports, so ...
Sweet. Still waiting on an Inazuma Eleven game for Switch too.
@Agramonte football fans walking into a store looking for FIFA on Switch should walk out with this.
Where is Mario strikers?

Potential of Inazuma Eleven and This in 2020, Great time for Sport RPG fans. This looks amazing! Please have online also!
@patbacknitro18 seriously, this is the first I have heard this, a new Mariogolf game, Superb 👊
American Football= eyeshield 21
Real Football= Captain Tsubasa+ Inazuma Eleven
Tennis= Prince of Tennis
Basket ball= Slam Dunk+ Kuroko no Basket
@patbacknitro18 I don't know why anyone would prefer a slower pace of a golf over a basketball or soccer.
I can dream.
@Arnold-Kage yes you can... support you on that one.
Regardless, I hope it is a good game also! Looks like fun!
It really does
