Re: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore Will Be Censored On Switch

@Retron

I suppose it exists but Nintendo this gen has shown they really aren't fussed about the content in games, certainly third party games anyway.

Maybe over time they decided they preferred the Western version over the Japanese version and that is their right as they made the game.

Like I said people can buy it or not. I won't be but just because I have never had any interest in that genre of games not because of any of this stuff.

No the point is it wants you to you.

The game is actively hoping to bring out the addict in you so you spend spend spend on it. It is a game made by Nintendo that wants to create people who develop a habit of spending money that they don't have to so it can get its "whales". Aww hell let us call them what they are: gambling addicts.

It is a disgraceful plan and as someone who loves Nintendo I find it disgusting. Anyone in the right frame of mind would too.

I wouldn't go near this piece of rubbish with a barge pole. I have standards.

But apparently I am the sheep....

@fafonio

You are a fool.

A sheep is one who follows their favourite game company and defends them at all times.

"I am having a good time so it doesn't matter how many other people may get hooked on this game's purposefully addictive gambling mechanics."

You are the very definition of a sheep.

I have standards and lines I will not cross. You are a shill. Nothing more, nothing less.

Mario Run did come with a £10 price tag so I imagine that is the reasoning why it made more money. I know that it was seen as a failure which has led Nintendo to go down this scummy path, but that doesn't make it any less scummy.

I also imagine millions of the people who downloaded Mario Kart Tour swiftly deleted it when they saw what a b******isation it was of the real thing so the spend per user stat is a bit pointless. It will be a minority spending a lot because thats what Nintendo really wants: People to develop gambling problems and spend far too much on a "free to play" game.

Yes that description is over the top but that is how I see the people who make these games.

Anyway I will be following @rjejr 's advice and just stick to Switch news so I don't have to see any news on this game again (hopefully) so be thankfull that my rants will soon cease! Well on this topic at least haha.

Yes but I haven't seen any articles on those games which appear to be rejoicing about how many downloads those games have had or how much money the games have made to date through those scummy gambling mechanics. The last part in particular I find distasteful.

Plus there has probably been more articles on Mario Kart Tour in the last 3 weeks than those games combined.

I know plenty of people will be able to play and enjoy the game without paying a penny but there will be some who start pumping money into the game and could get addicted. Whilst Nintendo Life of course isn't directly responsible the constant promotion of the game may lead to an increase in the people who go to try it and therefore a possible increase in the people who get caught up in the gambling mechanics of the game.

I wouldn't want to be involved in that cycle in any way personally.

Re: Talking Point: Mario Kart Tour Is Certainly Dividing Opinion, But Why?

SBandy

It is a game from a series that traditionly targeted towards families that is now built around gambling and Nintendo wants people to get caught in the loop of spending more money than they should to unlock all these items. It promotes unhealthy gambling tendencies in people who may take it further to get their fix.

It is nothing more than scumbag tactics and just cause other mobile games have the same model does not mean Nintendo should escape criticism, and Nintendo Life has also gone down in my estimation for publicising the game so much with article after article.

Re: Review: Mario Kart Tour - Steer Around The Gacha For A Fun, Free Take On The Series

SBandy

@scully1888

Fair enough. I don't agree with recommending a game that includes these gatcha mechanics because based on your review and numerous other positive articles on this site someone might download the game and get addicted to these gambling mechanics and end up wasting a lot of money.

So your review may have tried to justify how the game is good without spending any money but it misses the point because you are potentially sending people down the wrong path as they get caught in the gatcha mechanics that will be shoved in their face when they download the game based on your review.

You cannot and should not separate the two aspects of this game. That is my issue.

The game is a disgrace and I have still yet to see an article attacking this darker side of the game.

Hi Chris

I take back my shill comment as I didn't mean to suggest this review was paid for and I don't think Nintendo Life is receiving payments of any kind for covering this game.

But that is why I am not happy with Nintendo Life's extensive coverage of this game. There has now been 9 articles on this game this week and in all of them if the microtransaction are mentioned then they are only paid lip service and even then it seems to be "ah well other mobile games do it", even in your review.

This is arguably Nintendo flagship game series and to see it use these awful predatory gathca mechanics is quite sickening especially from a company known primarily for catering for the family market. The fact I believe this site isn't getting paid for the coverage of this game (or any other ever to make it clear) yet still isn't properly attacking the game for its horrible monetisation system is an opportunity lost.

In fact you recommend the game with your score of 7 out of 10.
