If you've been enjoying Mario Kart Tour on your smartphone over the last few days, you'll be pleased to know that the New York Tour Part 2 is now underway.
Those adorable Toads have been finishing up their construction of some brand new cups for you to check out, so you might want to head on back into the app to see what's new. You'll find that the ranking-eligible cups have changed and there are new challenges to be found, too.
That's not all, though, as the featured tour gift this time around is Yoshi - our personal go-to Mario Kart driver - and Gold Pass subscribers can also get their hands on Metal Mario. In addition, the second pipe has been introduced and will be available until 9th October. Mario (Musician) will be available with the special skill 'Double Bob-ombs', as well as the Blue Badwagon kart which increases points earned for mini-turbos and the Bullet Bill Parachute gilder which increases your chance to get the Bullet Bill item from item boxes.
The app had a great boost off the line when it launched last week; it was reportedly downloaded 20 million times in just one day.
Now you've had some time with it, what do you think? Let us know how you've been getting on in the comments below.

Its decent. Not great. Controls just lack that true Mario Kart feeling. And until online works, the game will just be meh for now. Though people who complain about micro-transactions stfu. The game is free. U can play 100 hours without spending a penny.
Yes encourage more gambling mechanics! Way to go!
Stop trying to plug this crap. Mobile trash, no matter how you dress it up, is the active dismantling of real gaming.
Why not ask where the greatly needed updates and new DLC are for MK8? We PAID for that game. We deserve to be treated as priority. New cups? New characters? An updated multiplayer system?
Nah, too busy hunting whales in that vast, scummy mobile ‘blue ocean’.
This is nothing more than a glorified fruit machine. It’s ridiculous and insulting.
@pullmyfinger Clearly you’ve given zero consideration as to why micro-transactional games are never a good idea, or ever ‘free’, and thereby incur so much resistance by so many— myself included.
Maybe stfu yourself?
@jswhitfield8 Agreed. It’s woefully inadequate on multiple levels.
Most cynical money sink on the mobile game market? No thanks! What a trashy game.
Haven’t spent a penny but have unlocked a lot. I hate that some cups are impossible if you don’t have the right characters and don’t reward you even when you come first. It’s fun but not rewarding for skilled players but for more so who spend money which I won’t be doing.
They are quite generous with the rubies and I have over 60. It’s a fantastic mobile Mario kart which isn’t suppose to rival the console games but make you want to try them aswell.
After playing mk tour, I went back to mk7.
I love the high score boards against your friends.
Its a mobile game and it has more tracks than Mario kart 8 deluxe
Honestly I think it's awful and I uninstalled it yesterday. Dull, frustrating to control and poorly monetized. Not the kind of game I'm willing to support, unfortunately.
I'm liking this game too, microtransactions are optional, so you can play a lot of hours indeed. And get all the characters eventually. Just be patient.
Of course it's not the best Mario Kart, but I think it's really interesting having the chance to play a MK with one hand, and it's a nice way to spend time when you have your phone but there aren't consoles around.
Loot boxes are something I'm not interested in whatsoever, but don't need them either if I can just play with characters and vehicles available at the moment, which anyway will be increased at some point.
I have spent more time on this than Mario run. Dr Mario combined. I spent 10 pounds on Mario run and finished it in 3 hours. Yet I can see me getting more hours out of this for free
I've been really enjoying it - I haven't paid a penny and currently have all but one of the first week's courses marked as completed.
However, having said that, I think the paid aspect is overpriced and has scummy gambling mechanics and in its current form they won't get a penny from me.
To my surprise, I’ve been having a lot fun with this game so far. My biggest gripe is with the controls but I love the remixed tracks, especially the backwards ones.
If they had done a paid version of the game like Mario Run, I would be more inclined to play this, but the gold pass subscription being the price it is, is just too much.
Some of the cups, especially the ones released today, are just ridiculously hard to complete unless you have the characters which are locked behind a loot wall, which is exactly wrong with the gaming industry. £10 for the full game, and I'm there.
Ugh, now I'm going to have to go turn it back on again to see what's what.
I was at a point where having finished first in all races I was still 3 stars shy of opening the next gift and 5 stars shy of opening the next cup. Which is really stupid in a racing game. The object should be to come in first. You come in first, you get enough stars to open the next cup. If you need a certain amount of points to open the next cup then this isnt' a racing game, it's a trick riding game. They should call it - "Mario Kart Trick Shot Artist" or something if it doesn't care what position you come in as long as you get the points. And if you get all 5 stars in 50cc, then you get no more stars in 100cc or 150cc? That's just stupid. It really shouldn't be that hard to make a racing game where you open cups by winning, I think Nitnneod has made a bunch of them before.
So if this is an all new cup tour, meaning starting over from the beginning, I'll probably play until I can't again. Win every race. But if you have to continue after finishing this tour, well that's never gonna happen and it might be time to delete it.
@pullmyfinger You completely missed the point as to why we don't like micro transactions.
No one is worried about the normal people who will ignore the ads. It's about the people being preyed on who can't help themselves.
Well, that and you can't actually play the full game for free.
How are you liking that 200cc mode?
@jswhitfield8 I fully agree with you, random internet person.
No, I don't think I will
@pullmyfinger Well, most people won't spend a penny, not because they've got the patience to grind stuff out but because they'll just not download it in the first place.
Part of the problem with microtransactions is exactly what you said, that you can "play 100 hours without spending a penny". That's the point, you can either play a ridiculous and frustrating amount of time, or "here, give us a few £/$, it ain't much, c'mon bro, we'll help you out. We'll solve this grinding problem for you...A problem that we created, as well as creating the solution for said problem!". These games are balanced around frustrating players into spending money, a little bit here, a little bit there, then when you eventually look at your bank statements you see those little $2 purchases add up to spending more than the retail cost of a game.
Then there are the real targets: those who for whatever reason are easily parted with their money. I would fall into this as I both have the money to waste and have the "just one more go, I'll win the lottery this time, I know it!" mindset they're looking for. I'm not a customer, I'm a target. The only reason I don't fall into the trappings of this filth Nintendo has become a part of is because I am up to date on what's going on in gaming, I know what turds to avoid and which ones to take heavy caution with. Many people don't and by the time they do, BAM, they've already gotten too invested, maybe even started rationalising and defending such obvious predatory practices. It's called a gambling problem for a reason, the people doing it have issues that these scumbags are preying upon.
Up until now avoiding trash games with this rubbish in has been easy for me since I either had no interest in the game to begin with or they're from developers/publishers sitting on my black list (EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Bethesda). NEVER did I think I would be adding Nintendo to the list of publishers where I either have to boycott or proceed with caution...Yet here we are.
Hopefully they'll stick to just ruining their franchises via trashy mobile games and none of this will actually make it into a finished product.
@HappyMaskedGuy - "Why not ask where the greatly needed updates and new DLC are for MK8? We PAID for that game. We deserve to be treated as priority. New cups? New characters? An updated multiplayer system?"
Err....what?
I must be playing a different game than the internet. The controls feel great for a mobile game (I turned off normal steering and left only drifting on) and it plays great.
I love the remixing aspect of the tracks and cups and it’s something that MUST be added to Mario Kart 9 because some tracks grow dull after time.
People keep saying about intrusive ads but I’ve never seen anything intrusive or annoying. Also I’ve never paid a single cent and have completed every cup (and the stars that I’m missing I’ll go back once I have the correct character). There’s a real sense of progression without spending a single dime.
Im never a fan of mobile games but Mario Kart on my phone... and free? Thats something I’m keeping.
Also there’s no need for 200cc. 150cc works perfectly fine. And for the people who say that you need grinding to progress ... have you even played the game? I’ve never repeated a single cup to level anything. Maybe go back for some stars that I missed like any other game EVER. The “leveling up” for characters and stuff matter squat. Also, because of the remixing of tracks (reverse, platforms and other interesting things) you never feel like playing the same track twice.
Also challenges. There are many things that this little game does superior than its console counterparts and some things that it doesn’t. I’ve been enjoying the game and never felt I’ve been a target for anything predating my bank account to make some progress or to just have fun.
As I said, I feel like people aren’t really playing the game and are just getting on the hate bandwagon just for the sake of well, doing what the internet does, complain.
@fafonio
Completely agree, having a great time playing this. Im already hooked and bought the gold pass.
Controls are good once you get used to them, use drifting of course, is there any other way to play MK
I didn't get far enough to delete it based on its F2P shenanigans. I deleted it because racing games in portrait mode are stupid.
@Bikstok also you can even just take advantage of the free week of the gold pass .... reap the rewards accumulated across 4 weeks of play .... and then just cancel your free trial if you want to stay on the not-spending-a-dime side of things.
@ryancraddock
It is NOT a new tour. New tour starts next week.
The amount of misinformation from Gamexplain and Nintendolife regarding MKTour has been downright irresponsible.
@fafonio
I agree completely. It is as though the gaming 'journalism' sites are playing a completely different game.
"...and the Bullet Bill Parachute gilder which increases your chance to get the Bullet Bill item from item boxes."
I couldn't help but laugh because this immediately reminded me of Spider-Man 3's blooper reel!
The Bullet... that pierced his body... came from his gilder.
The game has no life or passion, much like Super Mario Run.
But the casuals are eating it up, and it's going to make Nintendo millions.
So core gamers, just be quiet and play your Switch and be happy Nintendo's revenue is going up.
To my understanding the cups get removed over time and get replaced by others? So if you liked certain tracks, you may loose them forever? Very bad!!
@XCWarrior,
When Nintendo entered the mobile-scene people hoped that they would deliver triple A stuff, both with existing and new franchises. And maybe a bit innovative too. But so far the only things Nintendo delivered are very cheaply made Microtransaction nonsense. And the only new franchise so far is Dragalia lost. I thought, maybe they also bring the stuff to Switch. But nothing so far.
I don't miss out on much though. It all looks weak. Nintendo said it was mostly to bring people to the Switch and to their proper games, and that may work. But I think its mostly just there to empty people's wallets. Everything people hated about mobile games (microtransactions, always online, etc) is in the Nintendo mobile games. A shame!!
@Henmii Anyone thinking there would be a AAA mobile game was doing some pretty heavy drugs. They are all time wasters. I enjoy a few, but they aren't the same a console/handheld game.
