I still remember the trailer from the last Nintendo Direct, where I noticed the girl's hair defied the laws of physics, as if it were coated in a ton of hairspray. It's not really my kind of game anyway, but still, I was stunned that a game set in 2026 could have such inaccurate physics. For me, it completely breaks the immersion. I know it might seem like a minor detail, but that's how I felt watching the Nintendo Direct, and I still feel that way.
Still no trace of the S2 version in North America. What's taking so long? Is it just a Japan territory release?
Is it common that such a game/update releases in Japan and then the rest of the world days (if not weeks) later? I'm only accustomed to short delays in jetlag proportions.
It's simply outstanding! The love that's been poured into this is unfathomable. So many quality of life upgrades, the world and character design are top notch. The voice over is stellar. Finally a RPG that values the player's time, doing things fun instead of losing half of the whole game's playtime to menu-ing or trying to talk to every single NPC in order to trigger a story-driven event...

You have to read between the lines, all the way through the corporate lines they have to spur to make management and investors happy.
It WILL be compatible, for Switch 1 only. They don't want this to be known, because they need to maximize the sell of the red cardboard variant. They need to meet those metrics and forecasts that they already set in advance. Saying the Labo version will work goes against that goal.
When reading their official message, that's the subscript that is being thrown to my face...
It has a lot to do with the culture in Japan. You go to school, you graduate, you get hired and for most of the people concerned, they keep working there until they retire (or to the end of their life, in some cases). They have a high sense of honor and loyalty towards their employers.
Well, it was like this up until that generation of workers (I mean Miyamoto’s). With newer tech and social media, younger people in eastern countries seem to be adopting a more "western" way of life, so maybe employee retention will fade away in the short/mid term, who knows!
Now that every project with some meat has been canned and surely a lot of employees/artists let go, be ready for what a remaining team of bureaucrats does best: rererereleasing old titles for the nth time, cause apparently nostalgia sells and, magic to them, it costs nothing!
I’m telling this with a huge "kappa", but it’s sad…
The Sands of Time remake/remaster would have been their only chance to bounce back. Now to me it looks like Ubisoft will never recover. The company is on it's way out.
They'll likely be bought back by some chinese investment fund at a laughable cost in the near future. And this is how giants fall, people!
In Canada, unionization is not a process that occurs overnight. It needs a lot of preparation and has a lot of milestones to go through before the employees can unionize, and that includes telling the company that the employees do intend to unionize. They likely knew it well in advance, it was not a surprise (it’s not "just a month" like some people here are suggesting, but 6-12 months, sometimes over a year). So yes, it’s more than likely a form of retaliation. This happens a lot unfortunately; the desire for unionization often happens in reaction to shady company behaviours, and union busting is also what those nefarious companies chose to pursue as an answer…
I know it may be a rather unpopular take, but maybe (just maybe) being a 3-year old is too young an audience? To me, it feels like a good age to stick with plushies. It’s also a good age to watch someone older play, and learn by watching. I understand the point made in the article though.
@mikegamer I think is has to do with the game-key thing that he already thoroughly voiced himself against. But nevertheless, he does seem to like dropping comments like this, I dunno why he's doing it, as it does not bring anything useful to the discussion.
@Bobb sounds like someone discovered the definition of "pure capitalism"! AI will indeed speedup the transition from "capitalism" to "pure capitalism", in which the worker is no longer a variable. I wholeheartedly agree with you btw!
Microsoft taking pretty much the same turn as Sega did back in the day: focusing on software on as much devices as possible. It’s just a matter of time before they stop making consoles, it does not seem worth the hassle to them anymore.
@gcunit Yeah, there’s an ice cube pushing room that’s pretty nasty not too far in, but past this puzzle, it’s pretty much a yellow brick road from there.
"[…] in the first Lumo you had stuff like Knight Lore, Equinox and Head Over Heels"
You guys forgot "Solstice - The Quest for the Staff of Demnos", which this series mainly takes it’s inspiration from, both visually (the main character) and gameplay wise (the isometric view).
During the Switch 1 era, people were constantly begging for a chat feature directly in the console. To most, it was a dealbreaker. And now comes the Switch 2 and GameChat, with a camera to complement the feature. The first thing you know, people are mostly disregarding the chat feature, cam included.
Steve Jobs was right in a sense: You need to tell people what they want to really be innovative. On the other hand, by the time it takes to give people what they want, they already want something else.
I can go with scores on 10, however I think scores on 5 (or star scores) that don’t allow demi-stars are hurting down the road. For instance, if we bring back 4/5 on 100, we get 80; there’s little to no nuance, going in increments of 20%…
Isn't there a law in the EU (or one in the making) that forbids a company to market products whose batteries cannot be easily changed/swapped by the average Joe? I think a saw this in an article, but I can't 100% recall.
@StewdaMegaManNerd I wouldn’t count on it. According to Kit & Krista, the former Nintendo Minute duo, a new Mario game from this team could take years (read 3+) to come to fruition. This studio makes real gems, but they don’t have the fastest output of the bunch.
I totally agree with @Ogbert. To me, it feels more or less like a storm in a teacup. A catalyst was needed for some brewing backlash to occur, and this situation enabled it. It could have been anything else.
There is no way this game is not being made by the Mario Odyssey team. There are so many similar elements between both games! However, that might mean that the next flagship Mario title will not release before 2-3 more years… Let’s wait and see!
As a Canadian, midnight (ET) Walmart and 9 AM (ET) Best Buy were a complete nightmare. 40 minutes of "only X units in stock" and unable to process cart for the former before stocks were depleted, 50 minutes of "you're in the queue", queue ending, and queue startover with the latter, until all units got grabbed by I don't know who.
I managed to get my preorder by going to my local GameStop around 9:15 AM, with the store opening at 10 AM. I got my preorder locked in just before noon; the line was already quite long when I hopped in, but there was stock for everyone.
Funny how nobody seem to have noticed that we can clearly see the UI in this ad. I believe Nintendo didn’t show it officially before, now we have a somehow good look at it!
Would be nice to have a sound, but not at boot up, since nowadays we pretty much never turn off our consoles (which stay in standby mode when you don’t play them). At the beginning of each game however, it would be better than it is now on the current Switch. At the very least, they could’ve put the same red screen and Joy-con click that we hear at the beginning of each game trailer video.

If they pour that much love into a Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy IX remake, I'm buying either or both day one!

[Update]
Just discovered that it's "Escape from Ever After".

The game was barely playable on the OG Switch because of loading times, which took almost longer than the race itself. I left it aside as a result.
Until now that is. On the Switch 2, the game loads way faster and, at last, I can appreciate what the game has to offer!

Re: Ticket to Ride
Hi!
Just to let you know that this game has been released in the US on August 8th, 2024.
I was wondering why I couldn’t add the game to my collection, and I think the release date being absent explains why it is so.
Thanks!
