Dead by Daylight is still a rather popular multiplayer game across pretty much all platforms, as one hunter takes on a team of four survivors. The IP has been a huge success for Behaviour Interactive, and it's had all sorts of crossovers with major franchises from across games, films and TV.
It's now confirmed one of its more intriguing (and arguably lucrative) horror tie-ins, teaming up with Kadokawa Corporation to integrate Ringu (known by many as Ring) into the game. As for how it'll appear in the game, the press release states that it'll be a "new Chapter inspired by Kōji Suzuki’s novel (1991) and the original acclaimed film adaptation (1998)", with talk of "countless gameplay possibilities". Perhaps these wells will be found throughout maps and apply curses and effects, for example, it'll be interesting to see.
“The importance of the Ringu franchise in Japan, and its influence on culture around the world are undeniable. To be given the opportunity to dive into that legendary story as we bring this creation into Dead by Daylight is an immense honour”, says Mathieu Côté, Game Director, Dead by Daylight. “This new Chapter will give our players something intensely dark and troubling, a real heart-pounding experience that adds to the already high intensity of our game.”
“We are very excited about the collaboration with Behaviour Interactive and the Dead by Daylight team. We’ll be sending one of our most haunting characters into the Fog to pour down horrors that will rival all the great predecessors”, shared Reiko Imayasu, Producer, Kadokawa Corporation. “Fans should beware of their heart; this deadly newcomer will definitely strike them, and they will tremble with fear whilst they wait.”
It should be a fun (and no doubt pretty darn spooky) addition to the game; this 'new Chapter' for the game will arrive in March 2022.

Hey thats pretty cool!
As long as it's got the Dreamcast Ring Game's OST, we're sorted!!
My GF loves this game, and sometimes we talk about who would be cool to add, and I said Sadako would be awesome ^___^
Cool. I am ashamed to say I only watched the original this year. Really holds up.
Also, I haven't actually played this. There's no way it'd run on my laptop, hoping to upgrade to a desktop next year. How's the Switch port?
I thought the PR said Pingu at first.
@ThomasBW84 : I just swung in to say the same.
@mr_somewhere i have over 100 hours in on switch - it’s great handheld and docked
This is gonna be cool they haven’t dropped the ball yet
@ThomasBW84 Yeah, I really hope they don't call it "Ringu", but they probably will =/
@GannonBanned Thanks for the info... it's certainly tempting! Will wait and see if it happens to pop up on sale early next year, that might make me bite the bullet.
This is a huge addition to an already pretty incredible roster of horror classics. I always thought Sadako would be a really cool killer, but I figured Spirit was their way of filling the Japanese supernatural horror niche without licensing Ringu, Ju-On, or anything else similar. I'm really excited to see this chapter in action!
@Asaki They're calling it Ringu because that's how the original Japanese books/films are distinguished in the west. This is inspired by the Japanese version, not the American remake and its sequels.
Is it all multiplayer or are the single player elements to it?
@mr_somewhere the game itself goes on sale a lot if you wish list it - they rely more on the DLC for profits so they just want to get people in the door
@popey1980 all multiplayer - no voice chat tho
@VIIIAxel Japanese version aka the better version
I can’t wait to see Sadako hunt down the survivors
@Asaki hey, they should add Ju-On/Grudge in DBD. Kayako would be really cool
@VIIIAxel My copies of the novels are called "Ring" and "Spiral", but Dreamworks insisted on putting "Ringu" and "Rasen" all over the DVD artwork and promotional materials =/
Arrow did the same thing with their BluRay releases here in the west, but in the UK, they were released with their proper titles.
BTW, the Hollywood version of the series is called "THE Ring"
@anoyonmus My GF said she would stop playing if they did.
dont hate me but I want springtrap in this
@Asaki why? The grudge is a great horror movie/franchise. Kayako being in DBD would be amazing.
Is she not gonna play it because she is too scared of Kayako or something?
@Murkyelm a fnaf character would be awesome. I wish it can happen one day
There’s but one issue, ringu isn’t exclusively a horror franchise if the novels are anything to go off of. In fact the genre doesn’t stick with one, it keeps changing especially due to the Hollywood adaptation saying it’s horror and it isn’t, it’s more psychological thriller via the first ringu
@anoyonmus Yes.
@kitestar It would still fit well with the gameplay, though. Just skip all the detective stuff, all the science stuff, all the pregnancy stuff, and go straight to people freaking out on their seventh day. I'm guessing there'll be some mechanic where you make a copy of a VHS tape and Sadako goes away for a little bit (there's something like that in the Freddy Krueger matches).
...I assume the game will still have Sadako hanging victims up on giant hooks, though... ¬__¬
