@Serpenterror The idea of co-op fits Mario games, wich are slower paced, much more. Tail never felt right in the classic games, instead, he was there just to make the game easier for the first player, it doesn't add anything to the chalenging, unless the first player wants to wait the second player instead of rushing through the level, but that just kills the Sonic gameplay. It's counter productive at its core.

I'll add one:
Let we chose sword atack angles. BOTW doesn't let you change your atack pattern, thus the combat gets repetitive. Even Ocarina of Time did this better. There could be enemies wich you need to aim for a vertical or horizontal atack, or even a stab, like Skyward Sword did, it was just so satisfying.
This should be also aplied to big swords and lances.
Enemie variation would greatly benefit from this.
