I didn't spend an entire day in any store to be able to tell what systems were purchased . It seems like a silly question to me . I can say that I didn't see ANY system purchased but that doesn't mean that none were sold that day .
I will attest to the power of nintendo titles . I recently purchased SM3DW and my wife who has ZERO interest in video games was completely engrossed in watching the gameplay . So much so that she wanted to play with me . No other game in my extensive library has been able to achieve that . A testament to Nintendo's ability to draw people in . If they advertise well they can reach very respectable sales numbers this season .
I remember renting an N64 game (I believe it was Battle Tanks) from blockbuster . I returned it using the drop box and a week later I received a letter saying that I still owed them the game . I spoke with them and they said "no we never received it back". They sent me another letter saying that I had to pay 85 dollars for the game ! The same thing happened to me again with a movie . I can't imagine how many other people that was done to . Goodbye and good riddance blockbuster.
@unrandomsam I've never applied that reasoning to a gaming system , it's intriguing . As an audio and videophile the products that interest me the most have ZERO advertising . Oppo , bang and olufsen , onkyo , klipsch and a few more represent the top of the line for audio and video . Heck you can't even go to bestbuy to get some of these .
In view of the aforementioned putting Nintendo in league with these companies makes sense .I'm just not sure it will continue to work for a video game company .

If they aren't peddling the games some developers are just ripping off the design of nintendo's main characters . Example , if you use android look up "skyblade eden" and tell me if the character portrayed in the game doesn't bare more than a striking resemblance to one of Nintendo's most beloved franchises .
I agree with this article and would like to add a few other things . The wii VC had some great games from sega genesis and turbo grafix 16 or duo . Alien soldier , MUSHA , gate of thunder , Lords of thunder etc.. so many more to mention . Why doesn't nintendo just bring the whole wii VC catalogue over? If they do that they can concentrate on making other games available that were not on the original VC .
There is a wide variety of games from other systems that would be great to have on the wii U . Sega saturn , Sega dreamcast and the aforementioned Gamecube would be awesome on the Wii U . I wouldn't mind having panzer dragoon , or , radiant silvergun (especially since both of my 360's red ringed with RS on them , screw microsoft consoles) or fzero gx or marvel vs capcom 2 , the list goes on . It's not like the Wii U is in capable of handling games from these systems . Very disappointed (so far) in the Wii U VC . Hopefully Nintendo changes things .

They lend themselves well to touch screen controls , dodonpachi resurrection , Espgaluda and other cave shmups are a testament to that and they play exceptionally on my tablet . Shmups are a niche market though and don't represent all games .
I would go fully retro gaming in 2017 if tablet/mobile gaming took over . I just don't see people trading in gaming on their UHD 4k screens in the future for a gaming tablet or phone .

@SkywardLink98 Sorry but I'm not buying that . Every company has to reinvent itself at some point , take car manufactures for instance . GM and Ford have had to extensively change the way they manufacture cars in order to stay relevant . The reason being they got comfortable with their business model until it blew up in their face . The grampa style cars they were developing along with cheap quality parts were costing them dearly with the competition . Again , they got too comfortable AKA lazy until finally GM notably cried out "please bail us out we promise to make better cars".
Big game developers are no different . They may have profitable franchises (a handful of samey pew pew FPS and sports) that are especially developed for other consoles , but when it comes time to evolve they may find themselves crying for help . Yes they do what's profitable but it doesn't change the fact that they have become very VERY lazy . Inovative ubisoft dev : "hey I have an idea for a game that could be fun and different" Ubisoft exec: "what's that?" Inovative ubisoft dev : "Killer freaks from outer space! It's a game where you fight all manner of different aliens in the future . It's a survival horror but we'll throw in some humor use the Wii U gamepad and try create something new and fresh we even have some other ideas ..." Ubisoft exec: "That sounds like a good idea but in instead of aliens lets make it a game about a zombie outbreak . Lets change the location from outer space to london and throw in a cricket bat instead of a baseball bat now THAT would be a good game that's never been done before . Am I right ?" @EOTW I felt the exact same way . I was also used to the wiimote and nunchuck but after an hour or so the new controls started to grow on me . After several playing sessions I now feel like a more than competent player . It takes some getting used to but you'll get it . However if the full game has the option for wiimote and nunchuck I'm all over that ! Players who used the classic controller in tri should feel right at home .
@WaveBoy Hey thanks for summing up the way I feel. So as a reply to @Shanksta and in answer to his question "what makes rayman mediocre ?" I will kindly refer him to the well put reply that you made to magicemperor . It seems obvious from certain comments the difference between those who have played platformers for several gaming generations and those that only played them for a generation or 2 .

Again , they got too comfortable AKA lazy until finally GM notably cried out "please bail us out we promise to make better cars".
Big game developers are no different . They may have profitable franchises (a handful of samey pew pew FPS and sports) that are especially developed for other consoles , but when it comes time to evolve they may find themselves crying for help . Yes they do what's profitable but it doesn't change the fact that they have become very VERY lazy .
Inovative ubisoft dev : "hey I have an idea for a game that could be fun and different"
Ubisoft exec: "what's that?"
Inovative ubisoft dev : "Killer freaks from outer space! It's a game where you fight all manner of different aliens in the future . It's a survival horror but we'll throw in some humor use the Wii U gamepad and try create something new and fresh we even have some other ideas ..."
Ubisoft exec: "That sounds like a good idea but in instead of aliens lets make it a game about a zombie outbreak . Lets change the location from outer space to london and throw in a cricket bat instead of a baseball bat now THAT would be a good game that's never been done before . Am I right ?"

@Gamer83 DMC , Metal gear rising , tomb raider , Bioshock infinite vs Metroid , Zelda , mario , Fzero . You can't act as if the other franchises don't exist . When the new versions of the latter four games are released the games you mentioned will seem insignificant . Lets be real , most game developers envy the success of nintendo franchises thats why they always hate on nintendo . They would love nothing more for these franchises to end up on their systems . Why should big n fans care about some crappy redundant zombie game thats been done and redone a million times ? Even if it was released on wiiu I sure wouldn't be one to say "great another generic game we need more of those " hell no !

@gojiguy I agree that the demo seems to be tailored to vets. CAPCOM should have made it more accessible to newcomers .

Good keep it off of the system . What is it with this zombie obsession anyway ? Talk about milking an idea to death (zombie movies in the 70s and 80s) only to resurrect it (current video games and movies ) and kill it again . IMO the zombie market is oversaturated it's time to do something different like "killer freaks from outerspace" oh wait....

@EOTW I felt the exact same way . I was also used to the wiimote and nunchuck but after an hour or so the new controls started to grow on me . After several playing sessions I now feel like a more than competent player . It takes some getting used to but you'll get it . However if the full game has the option for wiimote and nunchuck I'm all over that ! Players who used the classic controller in tri should feel right at home .

I will kindly refer him to the well put reply that you made to magicemperor . It seems obvious from certain comments the difference between those who have played platformers for several gaming generations and those that only played them for a generation or 2 .
