Can’t decide to get this now or wait until the collection. Not sure how interesting the others are, but I like checking out fighters for a little bit and the art styles in these are fun.
@ToneDeath hrmmmm That works! It fooled me because you also have to remap the insert coin button for each game individually. So I was pressing it but noting was happening on the continue screen. Thanks for your help!
I have a controller question: I’m trying to get my mayflash F300 arcade stick or my snes wireless controller to work wit h this. Problem is that neither has the “-“ button which is the “start” button. It’s greyed out in the game controller config menu so I can’t swap it there, and the switch controller remapping menu says both controllers cannot be remapped. Same thing for the insert coin button but the game allows you to reset this one, thankfully. Any ideas I could try? Right now, I can start games with the A button, but can’t continue, since you need the start button for that. Would be fun to play this with one of these controllers!
Now I want a dead or alive collection next! I feel there is hope since they released dead or alive dimensions on the 3ds (which was great and becoming a bit pricey, by the way). Nintendo is working closely with Tecmo so it’s possible!
This was my most-played gamecube game. I would love a sequel or at least a re-release! I love all the goofy racer characters, and wish they made some more cameos! My icon is from this game
I fall squarely into the category of not even knowing of this series, but loving M2 Shottriggers, so I bought the game and am liking it! Though I would not get into the Gamegear games, but I’m actually really enjoying them so far. The are more graphically impressive than I expected and the music is great. If you like M2’s other releases, you’ll probably enjoy this one.
Played Raiden Fighters Aces on 360 for the first time this year. Possibly my favorite sprite graphics shooters outside of Cave’s games! I would lovvvve this collection to come to switch.
Very excited to play these with the drum controller! I’ve got a ton of use playing playing out if the original and I’m so curious to see how these rpgs work!
I wondered of it would go away for good when it went free to play, since I assumed it would always need to be connected to the internet as most free to play games are. I’m actually relieved to hear that they will patch it back in! Otherwise I was thinking the physical copies of the game would become rare and valuable because it would include the un-updated version you could play offline...
@Realness @Axelay71 Forgive me! I totally expect it to fall on the mediocre side of the scale, though the position of the gun kinda looked like one of the Einhander ones. C’mon Square, give us a port of Einhander on the switch! Moon got a release, so there’s some hope that obscure PS1 games could come...
@ooyah @the_pixel_king @embison So after looking into this a bit, I have some concerns and some hopes. It seems like City Connection is porting these titles, and they they were involved in the Psikyo switch ports. The good news is that they ended up bringing a bunch of those titles to the switch, including physical Western Collector’s Editions. However, the psikyo ports are pretty barebones and have more input lag compared to the 360 Cave-helmed ports. I don’t notice the input lag but that bothers high level players.
This is a big deal! I’ve been wanting the whole Cave collection to come to switch, and so far we only have ESP Ra De. (Which is great Btw). This is extra hopeful because it includes multiple games; Cave usually only releases one title at a time for full price. I’d love to also see dodonpachi and bug Princess collections!
Hoping they do a release of DariusBurst Chronical Saviors with all the DLC included for the switch. Haven't played it, but the inclusion of so many famous Shump franchises has me interested. Seems too pricey to pick up on vita these days.
I was thinking this too! I still have my MH4 silver New 3DS. I haven’t been willing to sink time into a Monster Hunter game since then, but a fancy upgraded Monster Hunter Decorated Switch could do the trick for me!
Never played the originals but watched a speed run, and it looks super fun! Defiantly gonna check this out. Maybe they will bring the originals to the SNES app to get people interested in the series?
@tofarawaytimes do you prefer the original Xbox version to Black? I only played the original but I’ve heard most people prefer Black. Curious to hear what the original did that black didn’t.
I’m looking forward to this one! Pre ordered the physical. I’m willing to forgive a lot for a cool art-style and fun characters. Hopefully there will be a performance patch by the time the physical version comes out.
I have the Japanese version and I’ve bought a ton of DLC for it. It’s about 5$ for 5 songs and gives me an excuse to keep coming back! They recently added a bunch of video game themes for free including the katamari damacy theme which is great. Not sure if the US got those free songs though.
Just bought this on a Steam sale for cheap, but I’ll definitely double dip for Switch. I’m hoping it has a Tate mode to play with the flip grip. Makes these shooters so much fun to play in portable mode!
@Sahnec I think one thing that sets F-Zero apart are the fun characters! None of those games celebrate the drivers of the vehicles; I miss those silly designs. I think that’s one reason I’m having so much fun with Episode 1 Racer right now.
Love this game; it’s one of my most played on switch. It’s wild to go from Dragon ball theme to Evangelion to Ghibli to Undertale to Splatoon to Miku and now Katamari Damacy! This game’s soundtrack is so impressive and there’s always new music coming. Only game I’ve bought more DLC for is Rock Band. I’m glad it’s selling well.
Thanks for this article! It was a fun read, and I welcome all shumps to come West. I downloaded the Japanese version of missile dancer and it feels really unique in the genre. I’ll pick up Gemini Arms when it releases over here.
I’m really enjoying it, though I attribute a good portion of my love to nostalgia for both N64 and Star Wars. I feel like they used the license pretty well in this game; the music is great and the cheesy cut scenes are good fun. I’m hoping for more to come to switch, with this, Doom 64, and the Turok games, there are some interesting 3rd party titles. Hoping they bring over Rogue Squadron, Shadows of the Empire and Forsaken from the PC one day, too.
I’m excited about this one! Got the Special edition pre-ordered before they sold out. After Bloodstained, I sometimes worry about the switch ports of PS4 games (At least at launch). But the switch exclusive features make me think the devs put some extra care into this version. Looking forward to it!
Thanks for this Review! I was curious about this one After seeing the “WARNING” screenshot which calls back to my favorite Shumps of the 90s/2000s. Also, there is a 50% off discount on the Japanese Eshop right now so you can get it for about 10 USD.
I've had my eye on this one for awhile, and I'm having a lot of fun with it so far. Really enjoying learning about the old games in Data Mode, and it's a neat touch to have the game characters giving commentary over the art gallery images. It feels like they put a lot of care into this version. There are levels based on Japanese Arcades, racing games, and all kinds of game-related goodies. I'd encourage people to try this out if they like shooters and 90s pixel art.
