Update (Mon 29th Jun, 2020 15:20 BST): Sold Out and Metronomik have today revealed that musical action-adventure game No Straight Roads will now be launching on 25th August, rather than its originally-planned release date of 30th June.
Despite the delay, Switch owners will be pleased to know that a physical version and a second physical Collector's Edition will be released "shortly after" that date. Other platforms will receive physical versions on day one, but it's nice to see that Switch is getting the support later down the line. More details can be found in our original article below.
Original Article (Thu 14th May, 2020 16:30 BST): Sold Out and Metronomik have announced that No Straight Roads, a musical action-adventure title, will be launching on Nintendo Switch this summer.
The game was previously announced for PS4 and PC, but this new announcement reveals that a Switch version will be appearing on the exact same day, 30th June. It has players making their way through a vibrant world filled with rhythm-infused combat and is directed by Wan Hazmer (Final Fantasy XV lead designer) and Daim Dziauddin (Street Fighter V concept artist).
It gets better still, however, because the Switch version will boast additional features that take advantage of the console's unique functionality:
● Exclusive Assist Mode - Partner up with an additional local player to take control of the Elliegator, a secret alligator assistant who can help players in battle by picking up items, transforming props and calling in useful bonuses.
● 3-Player Co-Op - Played in conjunction with the game’s co-op mode, Assist Mode lets up to three local players experience No Straight Roads’ music-based action together, only on Nintendo Switch.
● Touchscreen Support - Use the Nintendo Switch system’s touchscreen to transform props and pick up items.
● Single Nintendo Switch Joy-ConTM Controller Play - Play through the entire game using a single Joy-Con, or pass the second Joy-Con to a friend to play in couch co-op.
Switch fans will also be able to grab the No Straight Roads Collector’s Edition release, which features an exclusive double-sided vinyl LP with tracks from the game’s OST, a 64-page ‘The Art of NSR’ artbook, official NSR drumsticks, and a presentation box. Nice.

“ From Final Fantasy XV's lead designer”
No, thanks.
You know what? I am just glad the character designs look less human. Makes it look more stylish.
That's a deceiving title. I saw plenty of straight roads in that trailer.
@RevengeFan - They do have a lead design from Final Fantasy, so...
Yeah! This looks cool! But since I rarely play coop and my Switch Lite is handheld I be playing single player.
I'm burned out on guitar music. Weird, but true. The only music I haven't burned out on has some synthesized creativeness. Not feeling the game's plot. I'm probably a tiny minority, and accept that.
The animation looks fantastic on this and having local co-op is a good selling point for me.
Also, ffxv is one of the coolest looking games. Don't listen to the "ugh, looks like a jpop band" crowd.
I remember playing a bit of the PC version last year at EGX at it was pretty cool. I'll definitely want the Switch version.
The visual style is something in between Jet Set Radio and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt and holy hell do I love it.
I thought this was a PS4 exclusive, glad to see it on Switch. It looks colorful and quirky, and I like the music. I hope it comes out well.
@WoomyNNYes no, I totally get you.
Getting extreme DJ Octavio vibes.
I like it.
Pretty cool trailer! Looks promising.
Looks cool but who would delay a game the day before it releases? I get it, but just delay it at least a week earlier.
Looks decent tbh
@Mrnotultra Its delay was actually announced a bit over a month ago. Just not reported here till now.
@BenAV Ok, but why is nintendo life announcing it now?
@Mrnotultra They probably just missed the news.
@BenAV ok, I was worried that a studio had to delay a game days before release.
Another day, another delay. 2020 really is the year of video game delays, isn’t it?
@Mrnotultra - Well seeing this news reported in other Nintendo sites too, so guessing this is new information to the delay.
@Paraka The new release date is new news. They didn't give a date when they announced last month that it had been delayed.
@zemahon still better than anything you could come up with.
I’m excited about this one! Got the Special edition pre-ordered before they sold out. After Bloodstained, I sometimes worry about the switch ports of PS4 games (At least at launch). But the switch exclusive features make me think the devs put some extra care into this version. Looking forward to it!
I was expecting a rhythm game...bleh.
If Kill la Kill, Psychonauts and Scott Pilgrim all managed to somehow have a baby, this is probably what it'd look like! Sign me up! 🤩
