@gamermole Yeah, I'm not overly concerned about the de-sync issue. The Nindies presentation was nice - some good games there. I'll probably pick up a Switch in a month or so after finishing BotW.
@gamermole Sure. Cancelling was a difficult decision; it's my birthday this week so I was looking forward to treating myself. However, at present there aren't enough games (for me) to sway that decision. I can get BotW on the Wii U (that's my birthday treat!), already played MK8 to death and never really got into Splatoon so doubt I would enjoy the sequel. None of the other games at launch are must-haves at the moment.
I'm also slightly concerned about other stuff, such as not being able to change the battery, needing to purchase extra storage, the lack of information from Nintendo (hence my original comment), the Joy-Con de-sync issue, and Nintendo's general lack of output recently (given they kind of abandoned the Wii U I was surprised to not see more first-party Switch games).
I'm sure there can be plenty of arguments against my reasons, but as I said I'm only "slightly" concerned. I'll definitely get a Switch at some point. It's just for now it seems a lot of money for one game (which I'll be playing on Wii U anyway). Saying that, Switch stock is still available in the UK so there's a chance I might change my mind fairly soon, especially if this Nindies presentation knocks my socks off (hoping it will).
@gamermole It seems you are correct. I just tried taking "gamermole" and it was allowed, whereas "iwata_lives_on" was unavailable. I'm surprised we are able to use and lose User IDs so easily. Surely that must be a nightmare for Nintendo when tracking account information. And again, it seems pointless to have unique IDs in the first place.
@gamermole Thanks for trying it out; I was a bit reluctant in case I lost access to my User ID.
"But as soon as you change then your old name is available to anyone." - Are you sure about this? I thought they would be tied to the accounts. Otherwise, what's the point of having unique IDs? Do you get a message informing you the old ID is now available to everyone else? Thanks.
We can change our User ID at any time, but are our previous IDs saved to our accounts? If we decide to change it back will we get the "This User ID is already in use" message?
It would be quite handy to save a few IDs to one account, and a bit daft for the old ones to become unusable (especially for the people originally claiming them).
@gamermole Maybe you can answer this? You seem to be changing your User ID quite a lot.
How can a digital version be "currently unavailable"? Even if they were allocated a certain number of codes I suspect this was a mistake and Amazon realised the error. There's not even the option to set up a stock alert (obviously they'll receive more stock). Good luck to those who managed to pre-order.
Earlier in the Nintendo Life office... Thomas: "I'm gonna post some articles about BotW DLC." Damo: "Oh man, there'll be hundreds of argumentative comments." Both: "Mwahahahaha!" [Alex walks in with popcorn]
GameSeek seem genuine enough; I've used them many times without complaint. However, I signed up for a Switch stock alert a month ago and still haven't heard anything - didn't even get a confirmation email for my stock alert, though I've received plenty of emails about their other products...
Considering folk are required to make an account, I suspect GameSeek are merely generating interest for their site rather than feeling generous and offering bargain consoles. A crafty business/marketing decision? More than likely. A scam? Doubtful.
I'm losing hype for this game. We've been seeing the same content for too long, with still no release date. There's only so long a carrot can be dangled before it starts to lose its appeal. The teasing is getting boring now.
Nintendo, either show us something different or shut up about the game until the pre-order I made a year ago actually means something.
@MitchVogel The Kirby 25th Anniversary Twitter account added several tweets in the last hour. Something about a Kirby orchestra concert, a watch set and some other merchandise:

Nintendo UK delivered mine on Wednesday. I also had it pre-ordered on Amazon UK but cancelled a few days ago. Sure, I could have sold it for double the price and made some money but I hate scalpers and don't like taking advantage of people.
I hope somebody out there is enjoying my cancelled NES Mini, at the correct price...
My brother and I used to love this game. We played for hours mastering the controls and those frustrating platform sections. It was so satisfying beating the end boss, especially when landing the final blow which resulted in a Matrix-style slowdown (we'd both want that final hit just to gloat). Can't wait to play it again.
@River3636 You see how childhood memories can differ? Ha, maybe your hatred for this game stems from having to clean Mrs Bolwarth's rat-infested lawn for a measly 10 dollars (and you associate the trauma with Double Dragon)? Go see a psychologist.
@DTFaux Yeah, I found it ironic that RCMADIAX is under scrutiny and asked to explain himself about legally bought content, particularly when elsewhere on this site there are plenty of comments bigging up AM2R and moaning about its cease and desist.
Is RCMADIAX really "cashing in" when he has paid for the content (legally)? And surely it doesn't matter how much something is a "labour of love" if it infringes copyright? Yet, in the popularity contest known as life, it's always different rules for different people. The picture I posted, which was a screenshot from the NL homepage showing both articles next to each other, pretty much sums it up.
I used to look at Club Nintendo on a weekly basis to check out the rewards. I log in to My Nintendo about once a month. Nothing to spend my points on; nothing to save them for.
My biggest gripe? Folk purchasing physical games are forgotten about. Or are they being phased out?
Given that the Wii U versions of Darksiders 2, Legend of Kay Anniversary and The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 (all from Nordic) are buggy, I won't be rushing to pre-order.
Day-one purchase if it's a decent port/remaster though.
The pre-order offers/prices are: -Nintendo Classic Mini + NES Controller Keychain, £49.99. -Nintendo Classic Mini + 8-Bit Mario Soft Toy, £49.99. -Nintendo Classic Mini + NES Controller Messenger Bag, £59.99. -Nintendo Classic Mini: NES Controller, £7.99.
It's one item per customer so hopefully they won't all go at once!
@HSuzumiyaVI Yes, I agree. Do you think the mini NES, being the "face of Nintendo", is a sign of things to come regarding the NX and Nintendo's future? I do - I have a feeling the NX won't be a powerful beast of a console, but rather a continuation of Nintendo going back to their roots.
@HSuzumiyaVI I think it's a bit late to be kick-starting sales for the Wii and Wii U considering the former is dead and the latter is dying. If you had said Nintendo are generating sales (via brand awareness/nostalgia) for the upcoming NX then I would agree.
You're right about PokGo being the catalyst though - this nicely timed release of the NES Classic will certainly benefit from it. And if Nintendo can keep the momentum, so will the NX.
@ThomasBW84 "Support for existing Classic Controllers is also welcome - though there's no mention of support, oddly, for the Wii Remote alone..."
Given the setup, why do you find the lack of WR support odd? Classic Controllers are compatible due to being plugged directly into the system. A Wii Remote can't be connected in the same way.
Although a Wii Nunchuk can be connected to the system... I doubt it will work but one-handed NES gameplay would be pretty neat.
@brooks83 "I also wish Nintendo would have let you plug that NES controller into a Wiimote and use it as a classic controller. Oh well."
You can... "The Nintendo Classic Mini: NES Controller can also be used to play Virtual Console NES games on a Wii U or Wii console. Simply connect it to a Wii Remote controller to make the experience that much more authentic." Source: Nintendo.
@gatorboi352 Yeah, I think a lot of people are missing the fact that games like Watch_Dogs 2 or Battlefield 1 are mostly generating interest from their fans alone and won't be receiving much attention, particularly hate, from Nintendo fans.
On the other hand, I suspect that a lot of the talk about BotW is from Sony and Microsoft fanboys slating it. The statistics regarding mentions certainly don't represent the actual sentiment behind them, that's for sure.
@smashbrolink I understand what you are saying but many gamers nowadays weren't around for the NES days or realise what Nintendo have done for the industry, therefore it's irrelevant to them. I don't think people are trolling as such, merely commenting on what they see. By today's standards, Nintendo are indeed playing catch up.
These statistics mean very little. Breath of the Wild may be dominating the chatter on social media but how much of that talk is positive compared to negative?
Many people have been slating the game, saying Nintendo are playing catch up and copying the likes of Skyrim, Fallout, Assassin's Creed, etc. Others have complained about the perceived lack of story and/or empty world, or that it's not a Zelda game.
Any publicity is usually good publicity of course, but to say BotW "won" E3 on mentions alone (without saying whether those mentions are positive or negative) is a poor way of deciding the "winner".
Although there's a slim chance Ubisoft will have something Nintendo-related, I agree with @SLIGEACH_EIRE - why am I seeing links to the Microsoft and Sony conferences on the front page of Nintendo Life?
@Falk_Sturmfels Here's the code: removed (hopefully you'll get it in your email if you missed it). I'll delete straight after sending. Let me know if you got it.
@Falk_Sturmfels I don't want anything in return. I can post the code here if you'd prefer, but you'd have to be quick before it's swiped by a lurker. I might just @ you with it and then delete - maybe that will work and you'll still get it in your inbox?
EU code: Shantae and the Pirate's Curse (Wii U) - B0LGFJJ84RMM7Y05
@Falk_Sturmfels I have a spare Shantae code for the 3DS (EU). Won't post it here in case somebody else takes it. @ me with your email (then delete it) if you still want it.
@Raddorex If you click on the Nintendo logo at the top of your My Nintendo page it should open the official Nintendo website (in another tab) and award you 30 coins.
Make sure to keep your My Nintendo tab open/logged in. In my Points History it says: "Completed: Visit the official Nintendo website while signed in to your Nintendo Account (weekly), +30 coins".
If it doesn't work, try browsing the official Nintendo site (in particular the My Nintendo section) until it registers. It worked for me, though it might be region-specific (I'm in the UK).
@ThomasBW84 Just to clarify, in my Points History it says: "Completed: Visit the official Nintendo website while signed in to your Nintendo Account (weekly), +30 coins."
I clicked on the Nintendo logo (it opened Nintendo.co.uk in another tab), I browsed for a bit then the points were added. Apparently this works for all countries with My Nintendo, so long as folk access the relevant official Nintendo site in their area. For example, those in America have to access Nintendo.com, whereas those in Europe have to access Nintendo.co.uk, etc (while still being logged in to My Nintendo).
Regarding an account system, I think Nintendo would be daft to not have one really, but maybe (hopefully) My Nintendo and the Nintendo Account is a positive sign going forward.
@ThomasBW84 Haven't seen it mentioned yet, but a further "trick" is to click on the Nintendo logo at the top of the My Nintendo page (to access the official Nintendo website) and that will net you a further 30 coins. This can be done once a week and isn't listed in the Mission screen (hence it being a "trick").
Also, if you check your Nintendo Account, you'll find it has now been automatically connected to your My Nintendo and all your eShop purchases are now listed - does this mean we finally have a system where content is tied to the account rather than an individual device? One can hope...
Don't be in a rush to log in. Any coins collected today will expire September 30th. Coins collected any day in April will expire October 31st. Wait until tomorrow.
@nacho_chicken Thanks for replying, but I'm a bit confused. You said GMS is exclusively code (more or less), yet Toby admits he doesn't know any programming languages - going by that, I was assuming he did very little actual coding while making Undertale (just the mentioned drag and drop/applying events)?
"I don't know any actual programming languages LOL" - Unless he knows how to code using Game Maker Language but doesn't think it's an actual language...
@nacho_chicken Isn't Game Maker similar to Construct 2, in that not much programming experience is needed (you pretty much drag and drop objects and apply events to them)? Construct 2 is compatible with Wii U dev kits so would it be difficult to recreate the game using that?
@Damo It seems the Nintendo staffer has deleted his twitter post. Also, developer Broken Rules (who worked on Guacamelee, And Yet it Moves, Blek and Chasing Aurora) have just offered to help Toby with the port: https://twitter.com/brokenrules/status/695336912995770369
@MitchVogel It seems that "we're literally in the final steps" referred to the release date rather than development. Oddworld staff recently posted this on their website (21st January):
"We’re excited to announce that Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty is – as of today – approved for release on Nintendo Wii U and through LotCheck for NoE and NoA.
We’ll be back with more news shortly, as soon as we lock down a release date."
So... done, dusted, checked and approved - we might be getting the game sooner than expected.
For anybody thinking that a departure from the Wii/Wii U brand is a good thing, you might be disappointed. It doesn't mean Nintendo will start competing with Sony and Microsoft.
"... something that will appeal to our consumer base." = families, children and people not interested in powerhouse consoles. It seems like Kimishima acknowledges they lost most of their consumer base when switching from Wii to Wii U, and his comments point to Nintendo attempting to win that (Wii) crowd back.
I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it, especially when considering Nintendo's past and their current and future projects.

Re: Guide: Getting Started With My Nintendo
@ThomasBW84 Haven't seen it mentioned yet, but a further "trick" is to click on the Nintendo logo at the top of the My Nintendo page (to access the official Nintendo website) and that will net you a further 30 coins. This can be done once a week and isn't listed in the Mission screen (hence it being a "trick").
Also, if you check your Nintendo Account, you'll find it has now been automatically connected to your My Nintendo and all your eShop purchases are now listed - does this mean we finally have a system where content is tied to the account rather than an individual device? One can hope...
Re: My Nintendo and Its Rewards Are Live
Don't be in a rush to log in. Any coins collected today will expire September 30th. Coins collected any day in April will expire October 31st. Wait until tomorrow.
Re: Undertale Creator Open To Nintendo Port, But Wouldn't Be Able To Code It Himself
Re: Undertale Creator Open To Nintendo Port, But Wouldn't Be Able To Code It Himself
@nacho_chicken Isn't Game Maker similar to Construct 2, in that not much programming experience is needed (you pretty much drag and drop objects and apply events to them)? Construct 2 is compatible with Wii U dev kits so would it be difficult to recreate the game using that?
Re: Undertale Creator Open To Nintendo Port, But Wouldn't Be Able To Code It Himself
@Damo It seems the Nintendo staffer has deleted his twitter post. Also, developer Broken Rules (who worked on Guacamelee, And Yet it Moves, Blek and Chasing Aurora) have just offered to help Toby with the port:

Re: The Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty Wii U Port is Nearing Completion
@MitchVogel It seems that "we're literally in the final steps" referred to the release date rather than development. Oddworld staff recently posted this on their website (21st January):
"We’re excited to announce that Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty is – as of today – approved for release on Nintendo Wii U and through LotCheck for NoE and NoA.
We’ll be back with more news shortly, as soon as we lock down a release date."
So... done, dusted, checked and approved - we might be getting the game sooner than expected.

Re: Analysis: Assessing Why NX Needs to Take Over From Both the Wii U and 3DS
I won't be surprised if the NX is aimed at the casual market. I mean, there are only a billion signs pointing to that scenario...
Sure hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it. The evidence pretty much speaks for itself unless Nintendo are about to do a massive U-turn. Again, doubtful.
Re: NX Won't Be The Next Version Of Wii Or Wii U, Says Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima
