You'd be forgiven for forgetting about Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty!'s impending Wii U port. Though the development studio has been working fiercely to get the game onto the platform, it hit a wall getting the game to fit on the 8GB Wii U model. We haven't heard much about it since last August, but now it seems that the game is just on the verge of being ready to go.
A fan recently asked a question of the Oddworld Inc. Twitter, wondering how development was coming along and whether or not a release date was set. While we still don't know when the game will be launching, we do know that it is "literally in the final steps". However long that means is anybody's guess, but hopefully we'll be seeing it by spring. Here's the tweet:
What do you think? Will you be picking this up? When do you think it'll launch? Drop us a comment in the section below.

You can thank our Author Leonel "the fan" for breaking this amazing news
I still think that trying to make it fit on the 8GB model was a stupid idea seeing as we can just plug in a memory stick if need be. They don't even sell those models anymore! If it results in downgraded graphics compared to what it could have been I"ll pass.
I still say it was redundant to even try to get it to fit. Almost all owners of the system would already have something on it they would have to delete anyways to dl it. A huge waste of time but still looking forward to it.
@ImprobableToast Lol, I wrote mine before I read yours.
@ImprobableToast From a few comparison videos I have seen they look almost identical. The only difference is that the PS4 version has a bit cleaner textures and better lighting. However I have seen many say they like the darker look of the Wii U version more since it fits in better with Oddworlds tone
Complete and utter stupidity.
After Firmware updates and whatnot, the Basic model has only 2GB or so to spare anyway. Anybody who is even thinking of downloading games on Wii U will own either a 32GB model or a hard drive. The basic model hardly has enough room for game updates either.
I just can't get over just how freaking stupid this is. I'm inclined to not support this release anymore because we shouldn't get a watered down (and extremely late) port just because the developers, in all of their wisdom, decided to cater to an audience that isn't interested in downloading from the eShop anyway.
If I hadn't already bought this on Steam forever ago and the original version (Abe's Oddysee) when it first came out (and again later on Steam), I would totally buy it on Wii U. However, unless there was something truly unique in this version (and it was a reasonable price), I'm going to have to pass this time.
Definitely looks interesting, might have to grab this title.
@Spoony_Tech No no, it's good to see I'm not alone in that opinion. But yeah if it was that big of a deal bundling it together with Stranger's wrath on a physical release as a value pack would have been much better. The Wii U sure could have used some more little releases.
@Wolfgabe Well that sounds fairly promising at least, I might consider once I see what price they want. Though to be honest I'm more interested in Stranger's wrath.
@ImprobableToast strangers wrath on wiiu seems to have been canceled
@faint Because of course it was. Oh, well they're probably not coming to Australia anyway.
Yay!
I thought this might be cancelled.
Now if only Strangers Wrath would be ported, my favourite Oddworld of them all!
Anyone who doesn't buy this is missing one of the best games being ported to Wii U.
I was actually interested in purchasing the wii u version until it got delayed for a lame excuse about not fitting on the 8gb mode. So NO I will not be purchasing this game on my wii u. Unless I can pick it up for a real cheap price like $5 max.
Still waiting for Stranger's Wrath
just bought it discounted on ps4. its taken way too long to come out on wii u. theres no excuse in my opinion
Almost got it on PS4 as it's very cheap right now, but the game looks very good and I like bulking up my Wii U collection so will wait instead.
Played this on PS4 and its great! Wii U owners are in for a treat
The Oddworld games are an amazing treat for anyone who's had the pleasure of playing any of them at least once! I was so excited when I heard they were making New and Tasty in the first place, and when I found out it was coming to Wii U, I nearly flipped my lid! Will DEFINITELY be supporting this on release.
It should come with the Alf dlc, just saying!
I'm still keen on this but I'm not sure how much longer I can 'reserve a place' in the collection ready to play it! It's about £6 on ps3 and I wouldn't pay more than £10 on Wii u for example. The option of off-tv play is the only advantage I can think off on Wii u!?!
It's taken far to long to come out on Wii U and sales will be terrible as a result, which is a shame. I'll probably pick it up but I think I'm in the minority
I bought the Oddworld bundle on PS3 late last year, but I'm still going to get this just because Wii U is still my preferred machine.
I didn't know about this game, and I never really had any interest in the Oddworld series before, but knowing that people who DO want this game for Wii U are going to boycott it totally makes me want to download it on Day 1. Thanks, angry Internet people!
My girlfriend has recently finished on PS3 and really enjoyed it, which is important, since she's a huge fan of the original Abe's Odydysee. I wonder how it's gonna work on the WiiU, since the PS3 version had several noticeable slowdowns in several busier areas.
Been waiting ages for this. Getting close now!
Would pick it up day one if it was on physical media. Now, I will have to wait for NL review before dipping in.
I may give this a try, but I really want Stranger's Wrath. One of my favorite games for Xbox and I'd love to play it again.
I echo pretty much everyone's comments in that I want Stranger's Wrath and the cancellation of that and delay of this stinks. I own two Xbox games still at this point and they are both of the OddWorld games. I would gladly get rid of both if I had a way to play them.
That said I'll probably grab this just to support them even though it's my least likes of the OddWorld games.
I can't help but think Final stages of a Wii u port means cancellation...
Price?
@Sherlock I am guessing it will be around the same price as all the other consoles which is priced at $19.99.
@sillygostly Their decision was questionable, but maybe we should see how the release pans out before we assume it's completely watered down? Plus maybe they learned something from their space optimization exercise.
Well, at least it's coming to the Wii U... right?
They just released the PS vita version today it is 1.3gb in size. What I am expecting is that the Wii U version will be a port of the vita verison as in watered down.
I kinda preferred the original one, graphically I mean.
Argh.. Where is Armikrog?? I hope it's still coming to wiiu as planned.
This has been an exercise in delayed gratification...not unlike Star Wars Pinball...
Nintendo, make your next console 2 terabyes of storage next time.
I've been waiting patiently for this.. Loved the original back in the day!
@MitchVogel It seems that "we're literally in the final steps" referred to the release date rather than development. Oddworld staff recently posted this on their website (21st January):
"We’re excited to announce that Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty is – as of today – approved for release on Nintendo Wii U and through LotCheck for NoE and NoA.
We’ll be back with more news shortly, as soon as we lock down a release date."
So... done, dusted, checked and approved - we might be getting the game sooner than expected.
