Re: Mario History: Mario Kart 64 - 1997

Monado_III

@Minotaurgamer MKwii was eh, I've had a ton of good memories while playing it but at the end of the day it was just another Mario Kart. My personal ranking of the recent MK games (plus 64) would be MK8=64>DS>Wii>>7.

Re: There's Another New Map Coming To Splatoon

Monado_III

@Aneira How? The old UU was a terrible map, the only way to get into the middle was via one of three choke points that were easy to guard, now no matter how good the other team is you can at least break out into the middle.

Re: 3DS Homebrew Hacker Turns to YouTube App As Latest Workaround for 'Tubehax'

Monado_III

@TsukiDeity I would've probably bought the localized Limited Edition (if I was actually able to without waiting for a one minute period of availability) after if I had the JPN game. I don't speak Japanese but I am pretty good when it comes to figuring stuff out the hard way. But since it isn't region free I'll just have to hope and pray the LE doesn't sell out in minutes otherwise I'm downloading it.

Re: 3DS Homebrew Hacker Turns to YouTube App As Latest Workaround for 'Tubehax'

Monado_III

@ryanator008 Well, you implied that it was "open", and then compared it to android in terms of openness. Windows is closed source and owned by MS, the people who are more concerned for the NSA than you (http://www.technobuffalo.com/2013/08/22/nsa-windows-8-exploit/), the company that used to hate openness and (stock) android is completely open source and actually "open".

@LuciusHellmonde America isn't the entire world you know, you brought up a point about how you've signed a EULA, I showed evidence that in many parts of the world that means zilch.

@BoshiBoy Again, naiveness in thinking that every hack is made for piracy, this couldn't even launch/install games because no ARM9 kernel which is WAAAAAY harder to get at then ARM11 kernel. And like I said before, it should take no more than a few days once the exploit comes out to patch it and submit it to NoA for re-approval.

Re: 3DS Homebrew Hacker Turns to YouTube App As Latest Workaround for 'Tubehax'

Monado_III

@LuciusHellmonde Canada actually, but our copyright laws aren't all that different, and those Europeans signed the same EULA that I did, if it failed over there it goes to show that EULA's aren't iron-clad contracts that I must abide by or else. I don't know what it is like in the US but here's a good example of our law in Canada

@LuciusHellmonde If they want to take me to court for doing nothing illegal than so be it. http://bgr.com/2014/01/23/nintendo-console-hacking-court-ruling/ http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-12171423

@BoshiBoy "be honest no one cares that much about import games the only reason people want this is because it would mean free games." That's utter crap and you (should) know it. It shows how naive you are when you think that a ARM11 kernel exploit will lead to piracy. Yellows8 (a VERY reputable 3ds hacker who generally just finds stuff out) has even said that 9.3+ will take A LOT of effort to get any deeper than what this is.

Re: 3DS Homebrew Hacker Turns to YouTube App As Latest Workaround for 'Tubehax'

@Nintendo_Ninja I think what @HADAA is trying to get at is that is you go on the forums for example and try create a thread about these types of thing they'll instantly get locked, but yet NL regularly puts out articles on these exploits (kinda hypocritical really).

@Spoony_Tech, IIRC these exploits rely on buffer overflows (I know for a fact the original did), pesky things that are all to easy to create in C/C++ (see http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/6701), they are not hard to patch and companies will hardly loose money from this, nevermind the fact that most of the free stuff on the eShop is made by Nintendo/Google or is a demo. Devs could actually make money if the next exploit was on a paid game, as all of a sudden there would be lots of people buying it.
"And if Nintendo as a company wants to do region lock then so be it." Well, not sure about you but, I'm not paying $300+ to import a Japanese N3DS and FE:if-SE. Just because you obviously don't import games or have enough money to buy two consoles doesn't mean everyone else is like that. Heck, if the Wii U was region free or had a publically released IOSU exploit I'd be playing Xenoblade X right now.

Re: 3DS Homebrew Hacker Turns to YouTube App As Latest Workaround for 'Tubehax'

Monado_III

@Spoony_Tech crap, like doing Nintendo's job and making the 3ds region free? And not requiring people to spend hundreds (devkits) to become an "official" developer just to get some neat stuff like custom themes (they aren't even hard to make)? In the PS hacking community there's a joke about "the game of the week" that gets taken down due to exploits, yet they always come back up when they are fixed. And the miiverse things is one of the silliest reasons ever for him to target another app. And don't even get me started on the fact that Nintendo hasn't made SNES VC for the 3ds a thing but the homebrew scene already has a pretty decent emulator, and the have pretty much every GBA game running natively.

@BacktoNarnia http://ca.ign.com/articles/2012/01/03/xenoblade-pirates-dont-be-stupid
This was all BEFORE the prices reached $100+ on ebay. If NoA wanted Xenoblade to have a chance they could've done a whole lot more like, not limit a small shipment to GS where they tore the packaging then sold them for $100 as 'used' games. I'm willing to bet many of the pirates were genuine, hardcore JRPG fans and not some loser who doesn't want to get a job (why would a person like that even want a fairly niche JRPG).

Re: Nintendo Removes Ironfall Invasion From 3DS eShop Ahead Of Ironhax Exploit Release

Monado_III

@Nintendian How 'bout YOU stop your naiveness. Ninjhax 1.1, which can be run only on consoles < 9.2 CAN launch rxTools which is essentially a free Gateway3DS minus one or two things. Ninjhax 2.0 which is the only solution for > 9.3 CANNOT lead to launching CFW for a LONG time as the system is locked down very tightly (yellows8 himself). And WTH you talking about "the exploit is not stable and can easily crash your 3ds", no it's not. The exploit is perfectly fine, the crashing is probably cause by launching unstable apps.

edit: And to all those people that want homebrew to die and that it's pointless, how you enjoying all those SNES games and easy to make custom themes on your 3ds? oh wait... you need homebrew to do that.

@PlywoodStick " Having a form of order where the top boss doesn't get paid up to 100 - 800 times more than their lowest paid worker, as is so common in the USA, is not a pipe dream, it is called a Democracy." WHAT??? So the random person who gets hired as the front desk worker deserves anywhere near as much money as the person in DC (who has likely spent his/her entire career becoming a CEO/COO etc.) making multi-million, if not billion, dollar decisions?? That's like a waiter in a high-class restaurant getting as much as the head chef, it takes a lot more skill to be a top-notch chef than it does a waiter, it also took much longer for the chef to be where he is then the waiter. One more analogy, you work at a company as just an average worker and have been doing a pretty good job for over 30 years, staying with the company throughout the highs and lows, making personal sacrifices to help the company. But then, your company hires a college kid who, isn't close to as good as you, or anyone, is but he gets an identical job to yours, and makes just as much as you.

@Pandaman "My point with this story that many people have seemingly glossed over (or I didn't do a good enough job stressing) is that just because you can get fired for talking about interpersonal work topics, doesn't mean you should (or maybe even shouldn't, to be fair!),"
because Catch 22, they fire him and people backlash against Nintendo, or they don't and then anther employee says even worse (even untrue) things but Nintendo can't fire said guy because they could get heavily sued for discrimination as Pranger didn't get fired when he spoke out so why should he/she.

And I'm not disagreeing with the secnd part of that paragraph but could you give some examples of people doing that that aren't high-ups in the company (ie Gabe Newell, Phil Spencer) or indie devs.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Dismissal of Chris Pranger Highlights Issues With Company Culture

Monado_III

@Kirk For all we know him talking about his job (other than, "I translate games") outside of events like E3 was a violation of his NDA. He made some accusations at Sakurai, essentially said Nintendo was cheap when it comes to voice actors, and he called some fans and told people that "fans lack appreciation for character localization insofar that their favourite characters are, in some cases, lightly written or not written at all, and thus logical character development is seen as an affront to the fans". Yeah cause that's not insulting at all, you're telling me that I think good, logical character development is "offending" to me.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Dismissal of Chris Pranger Highlights Issues With Company Culture

Monado_III

@Kirk He broke his NDA, Nintendo is in a Catch 22, they fire him and people backlash against Nintendo, or they don't and then anther employee says even worse things but Nintendo can't fire said guy because they could get heavily sued for discrimination as Pranger didn't get fired when he broke his NDA so why should he/she. This whole thing is really stupid, I feel like Nintendo Life just lost my daily visit for this 'journalism'.

Re: Nintendo's Awesome Super Mario Maker Overview Announces New Features

Monado_III

@Yorumi Splatoon actually made sense, they wanted it so lvl 1's (or people who just got the game and sucked) couldn't screw over good players in ranked who are playing for the first time and are in C-. But you needed to get good/better before you could join, makes sense and saves frustration. But there wouldn't be enough lvl 10's at the beginning to actually get put in a match without waiting forever, so they deciding to spare people the waiting just waited for enough people to reach lvl 10 before they unlocked ranked. That way there were enough people at level 10 to actually get a match.

In the weapons case, it has also been smart if anything, honestly, if they released all the weapons at the beginning, I would probably be burnt out and would rarely play Splatoon, but instead I have a reason to keep coming back and trying new things. It also helps give people time to use each weapon to its fullest before you get more, then you play with those new ones, then get some more new ones etc. Honestly, I haven't used about half of the 'original' kart parts in MK8, but I've used all of the DLC ones even though some of the DLC ones were similar to the ones I didn't use/like in the original game.

Re: Editorial: Paper Mario is 15 Years Old Today, and Provides a Reminder of Nintendo's Wonderful Whimsy

Monado_III

@Dr_Lugae LOL WHAT!? It was literally 'get x item, you win'. Did you beat the desert boss pokey?? Like, it would literally tell you what you needed to get if you died several times while facing him, he was really good for a world 2 boss but he wasn't even a challenge if you had the right item (and experimenting wasn't even encouraged as it would give an obvious hint at the right thing to use). Stuff like that absolutely plagued the game pretty much everywhere.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Tackles Criticisms of Bonus Features in Games

Monado_III

@Dr_Lugae Glad I'm not the only one whose actually played it... like, you miss out on nothing if you don't use it, it's WAY faster to gain support (+ exp) points if you just fight skirmishes.
@OlicityBlows FE10 on easy was my first FE, still think that the first chapters of Awakening (on hard) were harder than pretty much any RD map (minus that stupid Dawn Brigade one where you're stupidly underleveled).
