Re: NYXI Reveals A GameCube-Inspired Switch Controller With No Drifting

LemyAtom

I received mine this morning. Can confirm the left analog drifts on arrival. Not happy. Contacted NYXI. The right analog is fine. I tried super Mario odyssey and Mario runs forward and a little to the right. When pressing backward it goes a little to the right. I've tried calibrating the sticks, resetting the controller, restarting the switch, using compressed air, using contact cleaner (last resorts) and repeatedly changing the stick. I even switched the two octagonal gates to see if one was slightly misshapen but no, it doesn't work properly. Really annoyed at this price point that this happened to me and feel unlucky.

Re: Mini Review: PowerWash Simulator - Scrubs Up Well On Switch

LemyAtom

@D_Munk don't judge a book by it's cover. Power wash simulator is satisfying in the same kind of a way that Farming Simulator is satisfying. There is something cathartic about cleaning mud off random items. I tried the game on gamepass because I wasn't sure either and I was pleasantly surprised that it's a mindless game where you can just relax watching the TV at the same time. It appeals to OCD types but isn't for everyone.

Re: Review: V-Rally 4 - A Bumpy Ride That Will Only Reward Dedicated Motorsport Fans

LemyAtom

@RsIV yeah I think they must have added the dynamic resolution, in handheld at least (I don't play docked) because the resolution tanks when playing rally Cross whenever there are lots of vehicles on screen, but it runs smoothly. It's not a perfect locked 30fps all the time but 99% of the time it is, so kudos to the developer for updating and and making it run better.

It's a very hard game. I'm loving it though. I turned on ABS but keep TCS off and found as long as you feather the triggers and don't just gaaaaaaaas then braaaaaaaake you will do fine. It's a sim, not an arcade racer.

Re: Review: WRC 10 The Official Game - Lots Of Rallying If You Can Handle The Visuals

LemyAtom

It's a shame the visuals have had a downgrade, but a consistent framerate is more important IMO, especially in a game needing fast reactions like that. What a shame. Though I will say I have V-Rally 4 which I picked up for £8.99 the other day and it has clearly been patched as most of the framerate issues are gone. It's smooth 99% of the time in rally stages and 95% of the time in rallycross. The resolution is dynamic and clearly tanks when there are lots of cars on screen but it doesn't last for long and honestly, in handheld, I think the game looks OK.

Not good, but OK. So maybe they will patch this. Considering it was already delayed though I would expect more.

Re: Poll: Are You Still Playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons A Year Later?

LemyAtom

I bought it recently and was hooked for about a week but honestly it seems quite repetitive. It's a good game when watching TV and my brain is tired but I feel like I'm missing something that everyone else gets. Not a huge amount has happened in my game - built 3 new houses for three new people but it seems to be chop, pick up, create and sell and not much else. Admittedly I haven't changed the clock for events or anything. I don't know if I have just missed the point or whether I'm not far enough in or what. Every day Tom seems to say there is no news.

Re: Unleash Hell With This Officially Licensed DOOM Eternal Wireless Controller For Switch

LemyAtom

I got a BEBONCOOL controller off amazon for like £22 and it does everything the pro controller does. OK, it's never gonna touch Nintendo standards, but it's not far off my PS4 controller actually and is amazing for the price. Despite the analog gate being oval, it seems to have an octagonal gate as far as input recognition is concerned which I wasn't expecting but is cool with me.

Re: Talking Point: How Often Do You Make The 'Switch Sacrifice'?

LemyAtom

I must admit I was preferring the Switch but recently moved my living room around and now I'm closer to my TV (I have my own gaming TV in the living room separate from the main TV) I tend to go for whichever option is cheapest, which is usually the PS4 version e.g. DQ XI when I get around to buying it. It is great to have the portability and option though, and I can see the appeal. Graphics are nice but convenience is king and it just feels better playing on Switch a lot of the time.

Re: Journey Developer Could Be Bringing Its Newest Game To Nintendo Switch

LemyAtom

@playstation_king I wouldn't be so hard on yourself. Some games require a different way of thinking that most games don't to get the most of them. For me the game that really highlighted this was BotW... I have been so used to the linearity with even open world games which basically way point you through the whole experience that I bounced off the game 3 times before finally getting it. Things felt too vague and open and it took me a while to kind of forget that and just decide to do my own thing. Exploring is something that is frequently a smoke screen in games but with BotW I truly could, and for a while I just felt lost, until I stopped worrying and started just letting go and not worrying about objectives. It's a much more fun game to just enjoy discovering things and I stayed firmly away from any pointers. Demon's/Dark Souls also did this, though through more linear means.

Re: Journey Developer Could Be Bringing Its Newest Game To Nintendo Switch

LemyAtom

@playstation_king it's not just the art style, but the experience as a whole. The understated music, the 'Journey' you go on (pun intended). Games should be about emotions, and you'd be hard pressed to find games that instill more emotion than thatgamecompany. Flower made me think about so much, about the environment particularly. In the beauty there is also much sadness in Flower, and I'm guessing reviewers felt it to. Not every game has to be lengthy to make its message.

Re: Feature: Game Of The Decade Staff Picks - Super Mario Galaxy 2

LemyAtom

Ah damn, this game missed me by. I remember playing some of the first and absolutely loving it. I can't remember what distracted me away but it was probably something nowhere near as good to be honest. I will go back and play this title, but I really wish Nintendo would just re-release both games for the Switch.

Re: Switch Named Most Fragile Product Of The Year By French Consumer's Association

LemyAtom

@Nintyfan how incredibly downright condescending of you. I have many consoles and peripherals and all are treated with the same level of respect. To say such a huge worldwide issue is people using them wrong is just stupid. If that were the case then why aren't millions of people complaining about PS4 and Xbox One controllers? This is a HARDWARE issue and always has been.

My Switch has been cared for properly. I am an adult. I do not have lots of spare money to replace products. I'm not throwing the joy cons all over the place. I have had drift in both the left and right, but more so the left, which of course gets more use. There is clearly a problem when the sensors in the analog are detecting motion when there is none. My console is always in a protective case out of the house. I treat it like a newborn baby. How dare you say consumers are the cause of all this.

Re: Nintendo Has Just Surprise-Dropped Some Free Cadence Of Hyrule DLC

LemyAtom

@MS7000 I'm pretty good at rhythm games (can usually handle medium to hard songs on most without breaking too much of a sweat) but I absolutely sucked at CotN and actually still do a bit. I found Cadence clicked for me, but only after a fair amount of practice. It is worth approaching the game as a dungeon crawler rather than a rhythm game. I found that I was focusing too much on the rhythm actually. The game is EXTREMELY forgiving with the timing window for movements, so much so that if you hesitate when you are thinking, as long as you are quick to realise and react, you often can still get in on the beat. Thinking about the enemy movements at all times and your placement as a character is the best way, and taking your time by moving back and forth on the spot from a distance also helped me. Apologies if this comment helps you in zero ways, but I just thought I'd give you my thoughts on how I changed my way of thinking about and approaching the game to learn how to play it properly myself without dying constantly. Both games do require a huge amount of practice, particularly in Cadence if you're not used to the enemy types (I haven't played a huge amount of Zelda to be honest but playing a fair amount on the Gameboy seems to have helped me here), but I promise you they are worth sticking with, because eventually it will just click, and will become second nature. It's just it takes a lot longer than you would expect, particularly if you are used to and pretty good at other rhythm games. I basically refused to give up because I refused to believe that a rhythm game could beat me, but it's only when I stopped thinking rhythm game and started thinking dungeon crawler that things changed.

Re: Switch Could Enjoy An Extended Lifespan And Even Outsell The Nintendo Wii, Claim Analysts

LemyAtom

@Xansies you make a valid argument, but the Switch is not aiming for power hungry 4k gamers at all. You think they would release another one where the gap between handheld and docked is big enough for games to run at 720p/maybe 1080p handheld and 4k docked? I really don't think that will happen, certainly not any time soon. The move to solid state is big yes, because of file sizes, but file sizes on the Switch are comparatively tiny, so it's no major issue there yet either. Although the Switch is working off SD cards it is technically similar to solid state (albeit on a smaller scale and not as fast). I still don't get your argument that it will kill off the Switch though. You're comparing oranges with apples. The PS5 and next Xbox will sell fantastically, but I doubt there will be that many people that decide to buy one INSTEAD of a Switch. The Switch for most people is either as a secondary and complimentary device, or their only device. I say that having read numerous comments and from people I have met and talked to. I think we are going to have to disagree, because we are clearly thinking from completely different angles. Either way, it will be interesting to see what happens next holiday season eh?

Re: Metacritic Reveals The 50 Best-Reviewed Games Of The Decade, Nintendo Takes Top Two Places

LemyAtom

@Swizze yes, it really is. The way the difficulty slowly increases as you learn, constantly challenging you to better yourself, is masterful. It really is close to perfect as far as platforming is concerned, and the story is touching too. To have a game that remains consistently challenging to the point that further down the line you revisit levels and realise just how much you have gotten better due to the fantastic level design is really difficult to do. If you go back to mop up when you are quite far in, you realise that what was once challenging has become easily manageable. The game is worth every penny, sale or not.

Re: Switch Could Enjoy An Extended Lifespan And Even Outsell The Nintendo Wii, Claim Analysts

LemyAtom

Despite having the console myself for 2.5 years, it still feels new in a way that other consoles haven't for me. Perhaps it's the portability, or maybe it's because games have reached an acceptable level of graphical fidelity, for me at least, but I'm in no rush. Ask me again in 3 years and things might change, but honestly I think Nintendo absolutely nailed the power/value ratio. The system is also holding its launch price and isn't nudging any time soon I don't think, and the PS5/Next Xbox are really not major competition I feel. They might all be consoles, but Nintendo, as it has been for a while now (although the Wii U was a misstep) is occupying a different space and appealing to a different demographic. When I first got my Switch I went on holiday soon after, and literally every single child was around me wanting a go. Fast forward to when I went this year, and it was exactly the same. The console is family friendly and not aimed at power hungry hardcore gamers at all, yet it has a library of games that transcend that demographic.

Re: Review: Decay Of Logos - An Epic Mess Of A Game, Despite The Lengthy Delay On Switch

LemyAtom

Wow. Thanks for a well written and concise review PJ. Sorry you had to 'experience' this game. It's such a crying shame that something that could have, with a little more time, been a game worth looking at. Instead the devs decide they'll push it out the door in the hope that people will buy it on a whim. It frustrates me that devs don't have enough pride in their games to actually finish them to a degree of acceptable completion.

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Short Games

LemyAtom

@Haywired too many games are overly long at the moment, for the sake of being really long because it's the in thing. There is nothing wrong with a short, punchy experience, distilled to perfection, I agree!

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Short Games

LemyAtom

@Joeynator3000 while the game isn't very long, I think it does take quite some time to complete if you're not a rhythm ninja. I'm good at rhythm games, and it took me a long time to finish. AMAZING game though.
