@N8tiveT3ch not here to debate you on the merits of the game, we all have our own opinions and who's to tell YOU what you do or do not like. But your comment on the music...I'll give you a pass here if you didn't spend a lot of time with the game...but the music is incredible (in my opinion, I'm a bit into Act 2). The further I get, the better the music gets. That is all With platformers - I have an unpopular take. Cave Story - I tried it, made significant progress, and just didn't like it. Didn't bother to finish it and have no desire to go back to it.
@FredsBodyDouble for the most part, I don't have an issue with the bench placements. Most are close enough/easy enough to get back to where you need to go / boss fight. The area that I am in, however, has a pretty tough (not long, just a little challenging) trek back to the boss fight - a boss who does some massive damage very quickly. I don't want new bench placements for every boss, just the big ones. I think for QoL, it would help...but I do appreciate the challenge, and find this game to be excellent (it's easily a 10/10 for me up to where I am at). I'm committed to finishing the game, but there's going to be some pain along the way.
The only thing I would add is additional benches in front of particularly difficult boss fights. I'm at the very end of Act 1, and I have really enjoyed the difficulty, even if it has seriously pissed me off a few times (loosing 1500 rosaries will do that)
PAX was great, unfortunately I missed a lot of these games. One that I think deserves a mention is TetherGeist. This is the 2nd year at PAX, and the game has improved a lot. I am really looking forward to this one, has some serious Celeste vibes. The devs confirmed to me that the game is launching on Switch and Steam by January, if not before. On a personal note, one of the devs (3 person team) remembered me from last year . Cool group, and fun game.
@StuTwo my understanding is that it's 1 purchase. If you buy it on Switch, it'll work on SW2 and you can download a free patch to up the resolution/frame rate. If you bought it on SW2, it'll work on SW1 as well....so same game
Great review - thank you! It’s great to see how capable the SW2 is, and surprisingly, Ubisoft is quieting the naysayers. I’m likely going to pick this up to support the game and Ubi - great first game to launch on the system.
@AG_Awesome I totally get it...I looked through the tier lists first, luckily didn't remember any game from it, there are so many. I feel you on the backlog - definitely think that this is one you won't regret . I just find it to be such a fantastic value, didn't even wait for a sale on this one (at $0.50/game)
@AG_Awesome punishthebacklog has a review + mini reviews for all 50 games. Bearblog has a breakdown of every game + tier list.
While it's fun to read the various thoughts, I think it's best to try the games for yourself, going in blind. Then try to figure out what to do. It's really neat when things just start to click. Or they never click and you move on...
@AG_Awesome just search for UFO 50 reviews - there are plenty that break down every game.
@JonBoyJ just curious, have you tried any of the games? They are new games... just made like a NES game. And with the variety, there's likely a few games, at minimum, where anyone can have fun with.
Overall this is a great review. If you want a game-by-game breakdown, it's available. Overall, as a package this is an amazing game and an amazing value. I've gone into games thinking that I'd spend a few minutes, and next thing I know, hours have passed.
I haven't played them all yet, but I've really enjoyed the majority of the games that I've played. There are a few that aren't for me, but I can appreciate those for what they are.
I've never been able to successfully predict anything Nintendo chooses to do, so I'm going to say that they are going to do basically nothing. Maybe a Mario 40th logo, remind us that there's Mario games to play, and give away a few stickers in the eshop. My predictions are always wrong...so please be wrong on this one
Direct was a 10. Incredible. I love DK, have been a big fan since DKC. I didn’t really enjoy DK64, so I wasn’t really excited about this game. I was maybe a 6/10 initially. Game looked interesting, fun, but I didn’t see anything initially that made it a day 1 purchase.
This direct was probably the 1st I’ve seen that has moved my hype from a 6 up to a 10. Now I have another day 1 purchase, how will I make the time to play all these games?
I have so many games in my backlog, I've taken a break from buying new games in the past 6 months. Switch only gamer here, with the Switch 2, I'll splurge on day 1 (MK bundle, CyberPunk, probably SF6) - and then I'll be buying Elden Ring & MP4 (DK depending on reviews) day one. After that, I'll likely do what I have done with my Switch, wait it out for sales on games I want, primarily buying 1st party games when they launch. But yeah, with $70/80 games - I'll be more selective.
@bobby_steurer I'm okay at fighting games, but not good. I've been playing for a long time but just have never spent the time learning how to go deeper. With MvC2 specifically, I would recommend it to anyone. The game is just so fun, whether or not you are good. There's an endless amount of team combos that you can build, and every character is unique - you will find a combination that you enjoy. Plus, some characters are easy to learn the basics with - and if this is anything like the past compilations, you can easily look up moves and strategies to try. If you are at all on the fence, it's well worth picking up. And plus, you have the Punisher game which is really a fantastic beat-em-up.
@FlyingDunsparce there's no 2, it goes from 1 to 3. My son loves the original so he's picked this up and has been playing it since the direct ended, and he's loving it.
I used to rent Extreme-G back in the day, really enjoyed it. No idea how it holds up, but I will absolutely give it a go again. I love that these more obscure titles are being released (in it's day, Extreme-G was pretty mainstream, but I completely forgot about it).
Multiplayer is better, still buggy in character select. These issues 100% should have been fixed before release - I just want to experience this game as it should have been...but encouraged that updates are coming
This is the first non-first party game I preordered, to get the discount. Though I am having fun with it, the game can be unplayable at times in multiplayer. Single player seems to be pretty solid, I haven't noticed any issues. For me, the game is a bit higher of a score, but I understand that with the multiplayer being broken (and this being a multiplayer focused game) the score being low. I'm hoping for some updates, but fear the online community will be very small once an update comes through. It's unfortunate, I didn't play these games when they originally released, and I was excited to experience them...thought it would be a slam dunk
Also - finally decided to join the discussions, long time NL reader, new to the discussions. I missed these games when they came out, but always wanted to play them. It's a lot of fun, but really wished there were motion controls - it is possible I am missing the toggle, but I don't think I am. If online play is cleaned up, I'll be very happy. Still worth it for the single player.
@iceclimbers - there's a toggle to turn off friendly fire
Last night the game worked great online. Went online during lunch and it was rough (still had fun though) - Battlefront 2

@somnambulance I love Camouflage. Played it until I beat it at 3 stars on every level. It is pretty short, but very well done. Excellent puzzle game.
