Re: Random: New Disney Pixar Movie 'Turning Red' Makes For The Perfect Super Mario Mashup

@MostHandsieBoy I don’t think they’re horrible…just less exciting? I don’t know how to explain it. It’s like the climax isn’t fulfilling enough or something.

They’re an easy laid back watch. Something I’d associate with those basic kid shows that air on weekday mornings.

I think it’s because the stakes are a little more personal, and the characters are somewhat undercooked/unrelatabke making it hard to be invested in their story.

Onward really disappointed me for some reason. It felt like it could’ve been more fantastical. The dad pants thing was interesting as a concept, but I honestly stopped caring midway through the movie. I’ve seen the trope of reconnecting with a dead parent before and it’s so cheap. It’s cheap. It was cheap in Ghostbusters Afterlife, it was cheap in the Adam Project. All of us can sympathize with missing a dead relative, it’s just hard to relate to a character who’s character arc is resolved by reconciling directly with that relative.

I liked Soul though, still…def doesn’t reach the same height as the older movies.

Zootopia is the last (Disney) animated movie I really liked though, so it’s been a while.

I didn’t like the movie, and don’t know much about the red panda stuff outside of what the movie told us about it. It did seem similar to tanuki kind of, so I’m not suprised by the comparison.

I’ll use this as an excuse to complain how obnoxious the friends and the MC was. The voice acting gave me a headache by the end of the movie. So grating.

Animation was good though.

I spend quite a bit of time in each zone before moving on so I haven’t completed the story. I couldn’t even tell you what it’s about other than I dropped from the sky, and maybe other people did at on point, and some Pokémon are frenzied and I have to help them.

It’s okay. I’m waiting for the wall when I’ll put it down for something else.

No but RPGs after this for me for a while.

@Richnj

Yes, they gained value a decade later, due in part of Nintendo dropping the entire strategy of reprints of evergreen titles at cheaper prices.

Whether you agree or not, the larger consumer market uses price to differentiate between quality. If Nintendo prices their games the same as shovel ware their perceived value could drop, affecting the overall brand.

Honestly. I don’t really see a negative. Even many of their third party exclusives are retaining value. It’s good for the company, their retail partners, and even third party partners.

Or maybe I should be able to purchase a Breath of the Wild at the same price of “LOL surprise movie night?”

Millions of people are still buying. Nintendo will adjust their strategy if they see it as a problem.

It’s pretty black and white. Nintendo making money is good for the company and the gamers that enjoy playing their games.

They seem to price their games right around what the market expects, which is the 60-70 price. I’m sure of it was 100, we’d see the creep as well.

Targeted sales of 33% off for limited time on digital games is not a permanent slash to $20 for physical. It allows Nintendo to still retain value to their brand by not offering bargain bin prices that we’ve seen for shovel ware, like Carnvial Games, in a giant bin at Wal-Mart. It’s about the ecosystem, and Nintendo has done a pretty good job curating it on Switch, clearly, without the heavy discounts.

Idk. I don’t really think anyone deserves cheap and access to a product when it’s not a necessity for life.

You’re too focused on Nintendolife’s choice of headline. Slashing prices to sell more copies at…a lower retail will shift more units, but not increase revenue.

Nintendo has noted that evergreen titles have made up most of their revenue sales the last few years, and they need new games in the market to support the loss of revenue as those titles reach a higher penetration point.

They’re strategy of stepping away from player choice or select titles is mostly likely to retain brand value during a successful period.

Other gaming companies wish they could sell their 4-year-old titles for full price.

What they’re doing makes perfect sense. If gamers want a discount then they should be smarter about where they buy the titles. Try used market places.

LUIGITORNADO

@Richnj if they can’t justify a 33% discount, or more if you buy used, then that’s on them for not being able to enjoy the game…not Nintendo.

There is a reason why Nintendo doesn’t do a player choice markdown anymore. It devalues the game. Copies would sit on shelves longer, then there would have to be package reprints for expensive cards. Their model might not be ideal for the thrifty gamer, but it’s making money.
