Re: Nintendo Download: 17th October (North America)

Nintendo only put these VC games out after last week to make Golf and Tennis look better.

Nintendo only put Clu Clu Land out with Urban Champion to make Clu Clu Land look good.

Ahh, Urban Champion. The absolute nadir of the Nintendo catalogue...

Re: Review: GOLF (Wii U eShop)

JustinH

Even if you were obsessed with retro Nintendo golf games, this is a pass. NES Open is better in every way and will certainly show up sooner or later. Meanwhile, Kirby's Dream Course isn't anyone's idea of a golf simulation, but it is excellent and already released on the Wii U.

Re: Rumour: Cryptic Messages In Pokémon X & Y Hint At Forthcoming Ruby & Sapphire Remake

JustinH

Hate to be this guy because I think highly of the work of NintendoLife and Damien McFarren but this is nothing but the echo chamber of the Internet-bound gaming media. This is a total stretch, a handful of references to a previous game made in Pokemon X/Y, which makes several references to previous games in the series. That absolutely everyone is reporting this as having some sort of basis is ridiculous.

To say nothing of how little we need a Ruby/Sapphire port. Those games are compatible with all the other Pokemon games, straight through to X and Y.

Re: Nintendo Download: 17th October (Europe)

City Connection looks like a classic next to Clu Clu Land.

And Nintendo obviously dropped Clu Clu Land next to Urban Champion because there was no way anyone would buy Clu Clu Land unless it was next to the single biggest pile of crap on the NES.

Re: Hyper Light Drifter Confirmed for Wii U

JustinH

Power to 'em, always glad to see another game make it to the Wii U, but it totally escapes me how this campaign snowballed and so many others over the last month or two just scraped together their minimum ask.

Seems like they bit off more than they can chew. I recommend you look at the full post as they have quite a bit to say. Given how lazy some devs can be, I can't get angry at them for a lack of ambition.

This game never really interested me but I certainly think they're doing what they can here. Can't fault them for that!

Re: Nintendo Download: 3rd October (North America)

JustinH

I was going to get a Final Fight game and pick up SSF2, but I don't know Final Fight well (the only game I have played like, at all is Mighty Final Fight) and I wanted to know which one I should get. You've all made it clear to me! Thanks.

Re: Extra Chapter Funded for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero

JustinH

I wish this and River City Ransom Underground didn't have to deal with the colossal money sponge that is Mighty No. 9.

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to Mighty No. 9 far more than those two, but they still deserved a fairer shake cashwise.

Re: Nintendo UK Looking To Raise Awareness Of Wii U With Tesco Campaign

JustinH

I've told a few of you Europe guys how Nintendo was going to market themselves once they rolled out their push, and sure enough, this is it: get people on the streets, put games in the public's hands and ease off on TV ads and other traditional marketing ploys.

That's how they've done it in North America for a few years now, and with Europe so much more population-dense, it could work even better over there.

Re: Review: Breath of Fire II (Wii U eShop / Super Nintendo)

JustinH

This is the quintessential SNES RPG. It certainly isn't the best out there — not even in the top five — but if you want to know what it was like to play RPGs on the SNES, this game will give you the experience. Play this and you can skip stuff like Tecmo Secret of the Stars, Paladin's Quest, Lufia and the like.

I do like this game, it has a lot of charming and touching moments, and the gameplay is a lot of fun, but the translation is awful, the progression isn't always clear and the difficulty is an issue. Viewed through the prism of 2013 the review and the score are both very fair.

Re: Howard Lincoln: Nintendo Has "No Plans" to Sell Stake in Mariners MLB Team

JustinH

@PvtOttobot Let me be the one who breaks your heart — TVii is stupid and pointless. I had such high hopes for it, but there's really nothing to it. If you love sports, it's not bad, although it still doesn't have NHL support. If you live in the States, and you subscribe to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Video, and you have cable or satellite, and a PVR, and you watch a lot of TV, it might be worth it to consolidate all your browsing. But that isn't me.

If the Wii U got a bunch more video apps — stuff like MLB.TV and Crunchyroll are the easy candidates — it could really be something. Right now it's essentially Miiverse for TV shows and a pretty neat second screen for sports. (Well, three sports anyway.)

Re: Mega Man, Shin Megami Tensei And Ganbare Goemon Sequels Coming To Japanese Virtual Console Services

JustinH

I love those Goemon games and it's too bad all we've got on Virtual Console thus far are the SNES classic Legend of the Mystical Ninja and the abhorrent Game Boy game. The two localized N64 games are absolute classics — Goemon's Great Adventure is hard but one of the best 2D platformers of its day, and Mystical Ninja starring Goemon is a flawed yet wholly brilliant adventure game.

I'd play through the untranslated SNES games. It'd be nuts but man do I ever love those games.

Re: Developer Interview: Black Forest Games on Bringing Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams to Wii U

JustinH

Not to be too hard on this guy — he seems like a good dude and they company seems like a bunch of good guys too — but whenever I hear people complain about how the eShop has too many steps to purchase a game or whatever, it's like part of my brain breaks.

I suppose they would prefer to have a one-touch system like you see on iOS, where kids mash the screen and make $100 purchases in a split second, but I'm OK with being asked if I really do want to part with my hard-earned money.
