I love how Damien McFerran is turning Red Bull of all things into a long-form games journalism powerhouse. It seems like nobody wants to make these sort of articles anymore, but I certainly want to read them.
Definitely excited for this game on Wii U. I hope the game isn't entirely unstructured — I love how NFS Most Wanted struck a balance between letting you go anywhere and do anything, but still lining up a ton of stuff to do.
Gee whiz, you Europeans are missing out on a ton of games we're supposed to get in North America by the end of the month — Pure Chess, Gravity Badgers, Dr. Luigi, even the super crappy Percy's Predicament.
But what you do get is Cloudberry Kingdom for $5. Go get that.
This game is so awesome. This just makes me mad that we won't get the Retro Game Challenge sequels. These guys are so on their game.
@DavidHolliss No, you can post your scores to Miiverse and that shows up on other people's screens when they go to the stage. It's a nice system but by no means a comprehensive leaderboard.
@c1pher_c0mplet I think Anguilla is the first option on the list. A lot of the 3DSes I pass in stores seem to have that set as their region (I obviously don't live there)
@Spuratis All three are classics. This is my favourite, but it'd be hard to recommend it first, unless co-op is a factor. Mega Man X is probably the best of the three, but Super Castlevania IV is really close.
@Daisaku36 I agree. Everyone's got something to blame here and most of them are kinda ridiculous. My expectation is six months from now when the PS4/Xbone launches are settled it will be clear that this whole industry is built around broken models. The Wii U data is really bad, but the 3DS numbers are only three times those and the North American top 10 is just awful. I'm afraid mobile has eaten away all but the hardcore. And that is a very sad state of affairs.
Time for Nintendo to open up the warchest. The Wii U has some momentum but Nintendo has to do something bold in 2014.
Worth noting that the 3DS numbers really aren't too hot and I think once January comes these PS4 and Xbone numbers are going to cool right off. I love console gaming but I think these Wii U numbers are the canary in the coal mine. In an age where everyone has a smart phone, the casuals and the softcore are simply not spending money they don't have on consoles.
@Klinny Glad to see Dex made it! I may well pick it up once it hits the eShop.
@BlueGreen Trying to take your concern at face value here but your first statement belies what would otherwise be an impartial stance. Their Wii U change wasn't really out of the blue, and sadly a lot of devs are really misinformed or underinformed about how little Wii U development can cost. I don't think that's because they're trying to run scams, but simply that research may not be these guys' forte. (Takes all kinds to make the world go 'round!)
There have been a number of really fishy Kickstarters I've seen and Lobodestroyo wasn't one of them. Maybe their PS4 goal is much too low, but Sony's indie people have been good at getting in touch with small devs and a few projects aiming for the PS4 have asks in a similar range to this project.
It really makes me sad we don't have this deal in Canada.
@Zach Assuming they would ship them and it would work — which I wouldn't assume — the currency fees and shipping fees would more than negate the savings here.
This is kind of just PR spin from Reggie. They obviously paid attention to Operation Rainfall, and to claim otherwise is ridiculous — it went from Nintendo saying Xenoblade wouldn't sell in North America, to the game selling better in N.A. than any other region. As the article adds, Iwata himself said they re-released Earthbound due to fan pressure.
On the other hand, the majority of petitions are so meaningless, and it does the fans no good to be under the impression that they should make meaningless petitions one after the other, so I understand the reason for his comments.
Just to be clear: this week the Financial Post has run articles about how the PS4 won the console launch and the Xbox One is the best item on the market so, yeah, I think they're just afraid to take a side.
Some good projects here — I definitely would like to see Dino Run 2 make it!
For anyone who saw the last NintendoLife Kickstarter three-fer, Tadpole Treble has just four days left and is less than $3,000 away from funding. If you were holding out because it hadn't made the Wii U stretch goal, please give it a look because it can get there if it has a strong finish!
If any of you are in Canada, The Source has a deal today: two Wii Remote Pluses for $50. Mario and Luigi versions are included. Really kind of a steal, especially if you can split the deal with a friend.
Anecdotally I've heard the big Mario bundle doesn't stay in stock too much. That's pretty good. I did a little bit of shopping on the weekend but didn't see anyone buying much of anything video game related.
@readyletsgo Define "successful". Microsoft's goal from Day 1 has been to run the Xbox division at a loss (a massive one) to gain market share. The money they've spent and lost in the gaming industry could've been spent on any number of other avenues — look at what Google has done with $2 or $3 billion in the same timeframe.
If I were Microsoft, I'd probably throw more good money after bad on the Xbox, but then you probably don't get to be the CEO of Microsoft with that sort of plan.
Glad to see the huge push this got on the last day. Anyone who wishes they could've got on this boat should consider Tadpole Treble — it's closing in on its last week and is a little back of its Wii U goal, but it looks great.
Power to it. I think this project looks promising, but it seems like everyone else says otherwise. The engine needs a little work, but their video was excellent. Sometimes Kickstarter just baffles me.
Didn't bite on any of this. Instead got Kung Fu Rabbit on sale for $2. It's not bad! It's a solid little puzzle platformer, if a tiny bit unpolished. Controls are very tight though.
@Daisaku36 It seems like everyone is trying to be an armchair Nintendo executive these days, and yet none of them get around to this point. I totally agree with you. Just this year the Vita was sitting unsold in Japan, and that's because it saw price cuts everywhere but Japan. My guess is Nintendo will drop the price and sales will be spurred. Maybe they're waiting for the right time, but I don't know what that is if not now, before the PS4 drops.
This looks pretty decent! Between this and Tadpole Treble there are a couple lower-budget, really promising Kickstarters that put the Wii U out in front right now, and that's just fantastic.

Game looks great and I am very excited for it.
That said, "most unique"? Poor form. C'mon guys.

I'll be busy with NES Remix. Those who don't have Little Inferno should consider it ar $5.
Re: NES Remix Confirmed And Available Today on the Wii U eShop
Spent the whole day playing it. I love it. It's great. It's challenging and addictive. Totally worth the $15 asking price.
Re: Two Mega Man Titles Get a Two Day eShop Discount in U.S.

WHAT?
Re: Two Mega Man Titles Get a Two Day eShop Discount in North America
@ThomasBW84 Thanks for being diligent and asking Nintendo! I'm sure you guys can understand that we Canucks would be upset to miss this deal.

@jdarrell What? I darn well better get this then. I can't imagine who would be a bigger Wii U fan than I.

Re: Sonic Lost World Gets Patched Up On Wii U
So glad to hear this. The 100-ring thing was the biggest forehead-slapper of an otherwise very good game.
@Maneauleau There's actually two jump buttons, one of which does not home attack. Game was driving me nuts before I figured that out.

Not trying to be a buzzkill. If you all want to go crazy with SNES VC hype, I'm not about to stop you! HYPE

Re: Refurbished Wii Remote Plus / Nunchuk Combos Discounted at Nintendo Online Store
I'd get one of these but then again I'll probably just get the Wii Party U bundle. But it's so tempting.

Got Mystical Ninja the second it dropped. How can you not?
Also picked up Donkey Kong Jr. on discount because why not.
Re: Teslagrad Wii U Release Drops Into 2014
Man, is anything coming out in December? Gee whiz. Just when I was actually coming around on this game.
@GamerJunkie We've got what, four indie titles in the eShop this month that are $2 each? That's really not bad.

Re: Video: Nintendo Teases Footage Of Wii Sports Club: Golf In Full Swing
I suppose golf isn't launching alongside baseball then, eh? Oh well, let's get golf on there already. Online must be the easiest thing with golf.
I doubt I'd get it but I'd certainly play a round or two.
Re: Wii U Console Sales Climb in Japan as 3DS XL Maintains Dominance

Anyway, good to see some fair Wii U numbers — let's get those higher before February rolls around.
