WayForward’s fundraising campaign for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero may not be building as quickly as the unstoppable, money-inhaling juggernaut that was Mighty No. 9’s, but it has still been successful. Totals have been breaking into stretch goal territory in the campaign’s final days, now including an extra chapter to be added to the game.
According to WayForward’s Kickstarter page, the new chapter, tentatively titled “Sequins of Unfortunate Events”, sees Shantae solving the mystery of vanishing magic carpets after being invited to the races at Cape Crustacean.
The chapter is expected to include a new transformation and take place somewhere within the main game. It will be accessible in Shantae's adventure as well as in Risky Boots Mode, a previously reached stretch goal that offers a full campaign as the half-genie’s pirate nemesis.
“Sequins of Unfortunate Events” was unlocked at the $600,000 funding level, with Kickstarter and Paypal donations combined. The next stretch goal, unlocked at $700,000, involves a variety of outfits for Shantae that provide unique abilities and stats.
At the time of this post, the campaign had less than 44 hours to go and accrued more than $594,000 on Kickstarter, with more than $18,000 counted in the most frequent PayPal update on Wednesday morning. Do you think Half-Genie Hero will reach its next goal — or further — in time? Let us know.

great news!
enjoyed Shantae + Shantae: Risky's Revenge
looking forward to this + pirate's curse
Thank goodness. This was one of the first stretch goals I was hoping for. Can't wait for development news from WF during the process.
JUST GIVE ME THAT PATTY OUTFIT, AND I'LL BE GOOD TO GO!
Considering donating to this but money is tight and I just donated to Mighty No. 9... Still, those stretch goals are so tempting. I wish this Kickstarter didn't overlap Mighty No. 9, I feel like poor Shantae is being overshadowed.
@ShadJV I'm in a similar situation. Haven't played Shantae much before. I feel like I'm kickstarting too many platformers now with Shovel Knight and Mighty No. 9 and right now it looks like Wii U is getting a glut of them so... just not sure.
I feel like increasing my pledge. I got charged for no 9 today. And i wish this one would have made more money
In a perfect world, all those delicious extra chapters would be funded. Alas...
I hope this makes its 700K Stretch Goal!
I want Officer Wagon, Ninja, and Beach day Costumes!!
I also hope that the Mighty No. 9 costume becomes a reality.
Was kinda hoping they'd get to a million, since they deserve it, and the stretch goal at that point sounds cool, but oh well. At least we got Risky Mode. <3
I wish this and River City Ransom Underground didn't have to deal with the colossal money sponge that is Mighty No. 9.
Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to Mighty No. 9 far more than those two, but they still deserved a fairer shake cashwise.
Pledges have really been picking up, and it has been averaging about $40,000 a day since yesterday. Hopefully they at least make it to $700,000.
I'm hoping to get the Rottytops, Bolo, and Sky goal. I would love to have even more playable characters. Seems very unlikely, but I hope they get close enough to be able to try to make it happen.
Here's hoping Paypal donations jump for a bit after the Kickstarter ends. I just backed it myself. Couldn't get away from those backer costumes.
All that matters is that we got Risky mode; I'm definitely buying this one.
I have to admit my guilt...when I saw how overwhelmingly successful Mighty was, I yanked my funding from it and put it into Shantae instead...it seemed like they needed it more.
Oops, thanks for reminding me! I had forgotten to actually put my pledge in. Really excited for this title; I loved Shantae: Risky's Revenge for 3DS and would love to support their upcoming project. (Also the extra backer-only content doesn't hurt lol)
