Robin Williams has been a keen Nintendo fan and has always been happy to talk about his love for the games, with The Legend of Zelda being a particular favourite of his.
Indeed, he even named his daughter Zelda as a result of his undying love for the franchise, however, during a recent Reddit AMA he said it was in fact his son who came up with the idea:
It wasn't actually me, it was my son Zachary who came up with the idea. But once Marsha and I heard it, we said it was great.
Williams has starred in a few television adverts with his daughter promoting prominent Zelda titles such as Four Swords Anniversary Edition and Ocarina of Time 3D.
But what does he think of the Wii U? Well, he said he was yet to get hold of one:
For the WiiU or the PS4, at this point I haven't seen them yet but I might have to check into the cyber wing at Betty Ford.
He actually said the last game he played all the way through was Ocarina of Time, which he labelled the best in the series. Perhaps he and his daughter should pick up a special The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Wii U bundle to change that! It'd make for a great advert.

@ednice
i think the name of robin williams daughter is more important
I like Zelda Williams.
Ahem
Right, I meant that he should definitely check out the Wii U.
^^^ That was totally random!
I have never thought about naming any of my children after viedo game charaters but while watching a movie got my first sons name!
Age 5, had daughter sedated and had the Triforce tattooed on the back of her hand while she was unconscious, tells her it appeared by itself and she was likely born with it.
Wow stop the press!
Dang, why didn't he say Metroid instead.
Well he was in Groundhog Day fairly similar to what playing Zelda has turned into for me.
@6ch6ris6 You are likely not alone. (The appetite of humans to know pointless trivialities never ceases to amaze me whilst not caring about anything important).
Believe it or not, Robin Williams has always KNOWN I'VE EXISTED! NO JOKE! My dad a make up artist was working on Awakenings at the time of my birth, i was born 3 months early, Robin told my dad to go see me, they meet again 6-7 years later, first thing Robin says, "How's ur son?" I finally meet him on the set of "Old Dogs". He was very nice. Hopefully i will get to meet him again some day.
@unrandomsam That would be Bill Murray. Solid joke, otherwise.
@Sonicfan11589 Cool story, bro. I'm being serious though, that is a cool story
thank u.
@Sonicfan11589
Indeed very cool! And I like to hear that, because I had hated to hear he wasn´t that nice and careing character he (usually) plays in the movies. You know, for one´s own imagination´s sake ;D btw Awakenings is a great movie, fits right into my field.
@LordofThewinDs that's a species you don't see people being named cat
Did he went back to jumanjy and back in this resent years?
@ednice ice burn
@ednice What this guy says is legit. Just checked news.google.com, but I think all the stories are in Spanish or Portuguese? Anyone here able to translate and figure out what's up?
Yeah i was born 3 months premature, i needed a blood transfusion, AIDS was the hot topic in the 80's and my dad turned white as a ghost, that was when Robin told my dad to go see me. When I did meet him, he was signing autographs for Radio Man (someone who usually dressed like a homeless bum and even played one in movies like Mr. Deeds) Robin didn't have to sign them but he did, he saw me, and my dad, at first he didn't realize me, then he cocked his head and said, "That's ur son?!, THAT'S THE SON" He dropped everything, he gave a hug and we tried to take a photo but either the camera was not on or it was too dark.
Btw thats a good advert. And i love his movies
I also have a daughter named Zelda. It kind of makes me laugh when I see people talk about how big of Zelda fans they are........ did you name your kid after it? No? Haha! I am officially a bigger nerd!
@unrandomsam Yeah, Four Swords Adventure, Zelda 2, Phantom Hourglass, Twilight Princess; all identical.
I wonder if he has A Link Between Worlds preorderd?
I actually named my 3 children after LOZ characters. I had twins who I named Ganon and Link, and 2 years later I had a daughter who we named Zelda. After Link stabbed Gannon to death when he was messing with Zelda, I realized that might not of been the best idea.
LoL didn't know this. Just finished The Crazy Ones.
@unrandomsam you're thinking of Bill Murray
I'm going to name my son Lincoln but for short I'm going to call him Link.
@JustinH Nintendo and Panasonic made a deal to join forces in order to develop/create new technologies in relation to user-device interactions (consoles and electronic equipment) that will benefit both companies
I like hearing stories like this. Glad Robin is a Zelda fan and even named his daughter after her. Very cool!
I thought I was cool by naming my youngest child's middle name "Kal-El"! LOL Yeah...I'm a Superman fan.
@Sonicfan11589 That is really cool to hear. You are forever connected to Robin Williams. Btw his show with Sarah Michelle Gellar is awesome so far.
@Sonicfan11589 That's an amazing story!
I always thought about naming my future daughters (if i decide to have kids) Claire or Sarah (after Claire Redfield and Sarah Bryant from Resident Evil and Virtua Fighter, 2 of my top 3 favorite female video game characters of all time, the 3rd one being Aya Brea from Parasite Eve)
Is Robin back in rehab???? He mentioned Betty Ford.
