Re: Can You Name These Animal Crossing Villagers?

JugOfVoodoo

@TG16_IS_BAE My brother had the exact same reaction. He got sick of the rude villagers and catching only trash when he fished. So he took a Bullet Bill cannon, pointed it at his front door, and never played another Animal Crossing game ever.

Anyway, I scored 21/25.

Re: How Well Do You Know The Legend Of Zelda?

JugOfVoodoo

10/10 Forgot Link's Crossbow training. Have read the Link to the Past manual.

About the official Zelda timeline - I believe it only exists because of a conspiracy theory among certain fans. I was on the Nintendo Power forums during the N64 / GameCube era. There were people on the Zelda board who were convinced that Shigeru Miyamoto had planned out the entire history of Hyrule Tolkien-style. They believed that whenever Nintendo started a new game Miyamoto would pick the era he wanted to cover, reveal the necessary details to the dev team, and then would keep the rest secret. These fans were convinced that any inconsistencies between the games would be explain if only Nintendo would release the timeline.

On top of that, there was the Single Link / Multi-Link debate. Some people believed that there was only one Link who was the star of all of the games, like Mario or Samus Aran. Others believed that with the exception of direct sequels (like Zelda II or Link's Awakening) there was a new Link in every game.

In the early 2000s the official Zelda website had a Flash interface where you controlled Link and walked around a map to go to different pages. This site had a timeline for the series that was Single-Link based. They claimed he met multiple Princess Zeldas because of time-travel and occasional suspended animation.

Then Wind Waker came along and shot Single-Link theory in the head. Multi-Link was now undeniable canon but fans still wanted a complete history of Hyrule. EVERYTHING needed to be filled in.

It got so bad that some fans were convinced that Twilight Princess would tell the story of the flood described in Wind Waker. They seemed to think this would make everything in the series (and their lives) make sense. They didn't care when I pointed out that WW explicitly states that the flood happened BECAUSE a Link DID NOT appear. They just replied "he could be one of the people praying for Ganondorf to be stopped". How do you make a game about that?!

Anyway, that's the history of the Zelda Timeline. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries Of New York Sinks Its Teeth Into Switch This Month

@Iggy-Koopa You've got me beat. I was only 13 when the show was on. The only episode I remember is when Daedalus befriends the sick boy and wants the Prince to embrace him. My hometown didn't have a hobby or book shop so I hadn't heard of the RPG.

My dad loved vampire stuff. He really got into the show. When it was cancelled he joked that it was because "it got too close to the truth". (It was actually because the Prince's actor had died but we didn't know that.)

Dad died in 1999. A few years later my brother got "Bloodlines". When I read the instruction book I thought some things sounded familiar...

Re: Random: Steven Universe GameCube Reference Leads To Short But Useful History Lesson

JugOfVoodoo

I don't watch Steven Universe but from what I've heard they often take something's nickname and make it the official name within the SU universe.
For example, the show takes place on the USA's east coast in the state of Delmarva. In the real world "Delmarva" is the nickname of the peninsula east of Washington, DC and the Chesapeake Bay. The name comes from the peninsula being shared by three states - Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia.

Re: Hang On, Competitive Pokémon Fans Are Liking Sword And Shield's National Dex Cut

JugOfVoodoo

I'd like to point out that Dexit has not really taken effect because Home is not available yet. Which Pokemon you can or can't transfer doesn't matter when transferring itself isn't available.

During the first months of XY we were stuck with its 450+ Pokemon until Bank was released. When Sun & Moon first came out we only had its 300+ Pokemon until Bank updated. Sword & Shield's limited Pokedex is not some magical thing gifted to us by Dexit - it's business as usual.

Re: Pokémon Championship Rules Are Changing In 2020 As Sword And Shield Take Over

JugOfVoodoo

@LordGeovanni I did see your whole post but I think I misunderstood you. I thought you were saying that pros would think Dexit was affecting the current rules but I think you meant that pros would look at how Dexit will affect future years. Sorry about that!

I'm willing to bet that GameFreak will release a new game next year with a different assortment of Pokemon and limit the competitive scene to it.

Re: Pokémon Fans Get '#GameFreakLied' Trending As Sword And Shield Drama Intensifies Yet Again

JugOfVoodoo

@Galenmereth "The funny thing is, had Game Freak listened to all its fans for all these years, we'd be left with a complete mess of a game not accessible to anyone, anywhere, but the most fanatically involved minority."

Yes, a Pokemon game with difficulty settings, skippable tutorials, easy-to-use multiplayer, and a robust post-game would be an unplayable mess.

There are genuine problems with the Pokemon franchise that Game Freak has been ignoring. Dexit was simply the straw that broke the Camerupt's back.

Re: Here's What To Expect In Raging Loop, A Psychological Horror Where You Decide Who Dies

JugOfVoodoo

@Pineapple_Mohawk Yeah, that game is called either "Mafia" or "Werewolf" depending on what names you give the different roles.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Werewolf_(social_deduction_game)
EDIT: From the descriptions, I'd say the monkeys are the Masons (a group of villagers who all know they're not werewolves), the snake and crow are variants of the Seer (who can find out what team someone is on), and the spider is the Bodyguard (who can protect one person from death each night).

Re: Class Action Lawsuit Officially Filed Against Nintendo For Switch Joy-Con "Drifting" Issues

JugOfVoodoo

@DanTheSausage It is a defect caused by poor design. An Imgur user name rainbopython, who's an electrical engineer, disassembled a JoyCon. They discovered that the contact pads are made of graphite. The stick's sliders have metal prongs that scrap against that graphite when the stick is moved. This wears the contact pads down and their dust builds up inside the stick. The built-up dust causes phantom inputs and thus the drifting.

Re: Video: Ok, We're Hyped About Pokémon Sword & Shield After That Direct

JugOfVoodoo

The Direct did say that Dynamaxing can only be done in special locations. Time code 13:10 - "These Gym-Stadiums are constructed in very special locations that allow for Pokemon to be Dynamaxed." The raids occur at small rock openings in the Wild Area that shoot out pink energy. I bet the gyms are built on larger geysers of that energy.

Re: Ryan Reynolds Admits R-Rated Lines Were Recorded For Detective Pikachu

JugOfVoodoo

All this means is that during recording Reynolds ad-libbed some R-rated jokes for giggles. Robin Williams did the same while recording the Genie. Didn't raise the movie's rating because the film makers didn't include them in the final cut.

Hardcore Pokemon fans know the franchise is FULL of dirty jokes. Red & Blue has a peeping tom, Black & White has a flasher, X&Y uses a penis joke to explain camera focus, and...Nuggets. Do I need to explain Nuggets?

Re: More Detective Pikachu Movie Trading Cards Have Just Been Revealed

JugOfVoodoo

@duffmmann @pupypup I have completed the Detective Pikachu game. The answer is:

***SPOILER WARNING***

We don't fully know. The game finishes the case Harry was working on when he disappeared but it leaves his whereabouts and the full story behind Pikachu on a cliffhanger.

There are clues about what happened to Pikachu. I think I've got it worked out but it's rather long and extra spoilery.

Re: Soapbox: It's Time To Admit That F-Zero X Is The Best F-Zero

JugOfVoodoo

I've only played X. Not a racing game expert but I liked it. My only experience with GX was overhearing this conversation in a game store between a little boy holding a GX box and his father:
Boy: "Captain Falcon game!"
Father: "Can you play that with your brother?"
Boy: "Captain Falcon game!!!"
Father: "If you two can't play it together, I'm not buying it."
Boy: "CAPTAIN FALCON GAME!!!!!!!!!"
Father: "Put it down. We're leaving."

Re: Video: New Detective Pikachu Movie Trailer Shows Off Lots Of New Pokémon

JugOfVoodoo

@N00BiSH I was 1 year old when Footloose came out. I was 21 when Shrek 2 came out. In that two decades I've heard that song countless times on the radio. It was also used in three other movies during that time: Short Circuit 2, Who's Harry Crumb?, and Bandits. Shrek 2 didn't make Holding Out for a Hero famous. Shrek 2 used it because it was already a famous song, just like All Star or Livin' La Vida Loca.
