As far as expectations go, I’m trying to be very conservative - I’m thinking we’ll see more info on Animal Crossing, Luigi’s Mansion, Pokemon, Link’s Awakening, Fire Emblem, Town and Astral Chain (hopefully all with solid release dates for 2019 and no delays), a short segment on Mario Maker 2, a new Smash character or two, and sizzle reels for 3rd parties and indies (including maybe a shadow drop for Cadence of Hyrule).
If I had to make a wild wish list by throwing away all semblance of reason, though, I would LOVE to see Switch remasters/ports of Fantasy Life (because that game is awesome and deserves a second lease of life on an HD console), Samus Returns, Skyward Sword/Twilight Princess/Wind Waker, Super Mario 3D World and Metroid Prime Trilogy, and maybe a reveal of the games that Retro Studios and Monolith Soft have been working on for the past few years. These are all unlikely, but a girl can dream...
I’ll definitely get RF4S - it was one of my all-time favourites on 3DS, and I’ve been meaning to start another play-through for ages, but the 3DS screen looks so small and fuzzy now compared to the Switch that I kept putting it off. Sakuna looks gorgeous, as well (I had no idea this game even existed!) so that goes on my list too.
My poor wallet...if nothing major is delayed, there are over 15 games between retail and indies on my wish list that are releasing in 2019. 💸
The price would work out cheaper than Amazon and the Nintendo eshop, so that’s not a bad deal for all-digital people.
However, if anyone in the UK is set on getting a physical copy, I suggest going on Base.com - they currently have preorders up for both games at £39.99 each, which is a solid £10 cheaper than all other retailers.
I’m honestly not worried in the slightest for the lack of Animal Crossing in the list; it’s not a game that demos well due to how slow it is, and would be a much better fit for for an extended Treehouse segment IMO.
That aside, I have a feeling E3 is going to be awesome this year. All aboard the hype train!
@AlternateButtons I think every single Animal Crossing fan the world over is going to riot in the streets, The Purge-style, in that case. Including myself.
Upwards of £450 for an SD card? 😱 No way; I might pick one up once it’s cheaper in a couple years’ time, but definitely not at this price. I still have plenty of room in the 200 GB card I bought with my Switch two years ago, even though it requires some careful space management (I only buy indies I really want to play, and try to buy physical whenever possible). Besides, if I had that much space on my Switch I would probably end up buying EVERYTHING digital and waste waaaaay too much money on eshop games I probably won’t have time to play for years... 😝
To be honest, I’m hoping they’ll hold off on announcing the Switch mini/lite until 2020 - simply because I’ve been waiting with baited breath for an Animal Crossing Switch bundle to be announced alongside with the game. I’m planning on buying a second Switch when AC comes out (since my significant other pilfers mine way too often as it is, and would be at serious risk of being bitten if he tried to take it off me while I’m in full fishing/bug-catching/bell-hoarding craze), and I would be really disappointed if they ended up releasing the themed bundle with a smaller/inferior console. XD
Looking forward to this! Doraemon is pretty well-known in Italy - I remember watching the dubbed anime growing up, right alongside Pokemon - so it’s going to be a nice throwback for me!
I’ve been playing it all day, and loading times aren’t actually that bad - it takes just under 2 minutes to get the game fully started from the Switch menu, and after that every loading screen I have encountered was between 5 and 10 seconds MAX. Overall, I’m really enjoying it; it’s colourful, silly fun, even though it does take a bit of micro-managing to keep track of all the parts needed to build something. If you’re a fan of Stardew, Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons and Rune Factory, you’ll very likely enjoy this one.
I love the art style, it reminds me a little of Tale of Two Towns with those backgrounds. Hopefully there will be an English language option, so it can be imported from the likes of PlayAsia and Amazon.jp.
I might double-dip on this one, but it will depend on the price; I still have cartridges for all six original games to play on my 3DS, so I might pass if it’s more than £15-20. If we were talking about a collection of all six games, on the other hand, I’d happily spend full retail price.
This has been on my radar for a while, happy to know it finally has a release date! I have managed to go through most of my Switch backlog in the last few months (I finally managed to play through Octopath Traveler, and now I can’t believe I put it off for so long!), so it will be nice to have this to sink my teeth into until Fire Emblem comes out.
Wow, 30 minutes - have we ever had such a long Nindie direct? Hoping to see A Hat in Time and My Time at Portia (I believe they both have generic spring release dates), and maybe something more about Steamworld Quest. Bring on the Nindies!
I thought it was a great direct! While I was not personally interested in most of the games shown (my highlights were Zelda, Fire Emblem, Yoshi, the Captain Toad DLC and the Rune Factory games), it was awesome to see so many games being shown at once; the second half of the year is going to be absolutely jam-packed! If they don’t do another direct between now and June, the E3 presentation is going to be awesome as well, with Animal Crossing, Luigi’s Mansion, Pokemon and Zelda - can’t wait!
So psyched for this! I played RF4 on 3DS four or five years ago, and LOVED it - I had actually been thinking about starting a new file this year, but now I'm definitely going to wait and buy the remastered edition on day one! Also hyped for RF5 - I really thought the series was dead after Neverland went under, it's wonderful to know it will continue on!
Perhaps it’s because the September direct was so good, but I’m waaaaay too hyped about this one!
I’m hoping to see plenty about FE (love the series), a few bits about Luigi’s Mansion and Animal Crossing, something Zelda (not necessarily a new game; I’d be happy with a port of SS, WW or TP), and maybe some new Mario Kart or Odyssey DLC. And as someone who never played the Metroid games (I know, right?!), I wouldn’t mind the rumoured Prime Trilogy, either.
Just putting in my two cents here, but I’m pretty sure this is just a retailer putting up a random placeholder date. I may be wrong, of course, but consider this:
1) only weeks ago, Nintendo stated that FE is on track for a Spring release in a financial report
2) this is a game that was supposed to release in 2018; I would be really surprised if they delayed it yet again by half a year
3)FE games tend to release between April and June (at least the 3DS entries)
4) if the game released in 7 months’ time, I highly doubt it would be one of the primary focuses of a February Direct, since they would be better off talking of games actually releasing between now and E3
Though I guess we’ll know whether that’s true soon enough... 😁
Meh...wasn't blown away by anything, to be honest - the only thing I am interested in is Steamworld Quest (wasn't there a rumour about Image & Form working on a game with this title a couple of years back, by the way?). And maybe Wargroove, though I'll probably wait until it goes on sale to get it. Hopefully we'll get a Direct soon, it would be nice to know what to look forward to between now and E3.
Would have preferred a proper Direct with Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem news, but I’m excited for this nonetheless. Hoping to see something about My Time at Portia (it’s supposed to release on Switch in the spring, if I’m not mistaken), and maybe a release date for A Hat in Time among other things. Bring it on!
I’d love for Fantasy Life to be ported (it’s a fantastic game and would be right at home on the Switch), as well as the 6 Layton games in one huge collection. I know they are both EXTREMELY unlikely options, but I can dream... 😜
I would love for this to be confirmed - and for Nintendo to bring Twilight Princess HD and Wind Waker HD to the Switch, too. My WiiU has been packed up in a box at the bottom of the closet for over a year, and it is unlikely that it will ever see the light of day again, so it would be great to get to play the older games again - especially now that I have finally managed to get my boyfriend into Zelda with BotW.
I can’t believe people are being so childish as to give the game bad reviews WITHOUT PLAYING IT simply because it is not the “hardcore” experience they wanted. If you try it, and you don’t like it, that’s perfectly fair, as that’s your informed opinion about the product; but giving the game a 0 arbitrarily and blindly just because it “looks bad” or you think it’s “dumb” or “for babies” (just to quote some of the reviews I have read out there) without ever touching it is beyond immature and petty. It may be a bit of a hyperbole, but it is almost like bashing Mario Kart because it does not play like 3D Mario; they are, simply, two different styles of games catering for different players.
The Let’s Go games are reimaginings of the originals with a different spin, and are in no way meant to be a new standard for the “core” series going forward. Put the torches and pitchforks down, people, and chill.
As much as I love farming sims, I’m going to givee this a pass - my gaming time is limited these days, what with the pesky side-effects of being an adult (like having to work a full-time job to pay bills), and I don’t fancy wasting it on what looks like a mediocre knock-off. Stardew will tide me over until My Time at Portia/Summer in Mara/RE:Legend/Garden Paws/Story of Seasons Switch (whichever one comes first) comes out.
Very happy to know it’s a return ti form for the series! I remember playing literally HUNDREDS of hours on Mario Party 8 on the Wii when I was a kid, but the next few games made me lose interest pretty quickly. I preprdered this in the hopes it would be good since I have friends/family over all the time, I’m glad it (hopefully) won’t disappoint!
Pity, I hoped it would be the same as on Playstation, where you simply download your games on up to a certain number of consoles, and all users associated with that console can then play the games...would have saved a lot of money since there are three Switch-owning people in my family, and we all play very similar games (especially indies). Still, well done Nintendo for (somewhat) catching up on this feature!
Honestly, this and Animal Crossing made me dance around the living room in celebration - they are two of my absolute favourite Nintendo franchises EVER, along with Zelda, Fire Emblem and Pokemon. Considering that games for 4 out of those 5 will be coming out next year, 2019 will officially be the best year ever in term of games IMO. Best Direct we got in a long time, 10/10 for me.
I adored the whole Layton series in DS/3DS, I played through all six games more times than I can count. Would love a Switch collection, it would be a day-one purchase for me!
So, wait...does that mean that, as someone who bought a used copy of the game for which points had already been redeemed, I won’t be able to access the freebies? Bummer...
I like the yellow of the right joy-con, but I would have much preferred the left in cream (like the strap in the picture) rather than in that horrible brown. Will pass on this one - we’re looking to buy a second switch in the next year, but I might wait for an Animal Crossing-themed bundle to come out instead.
I’d love to see folders on the Switch - my game collection is expanding a lot quicker than I had planned, and I now have to sort through too many icons to find older/less played games. Themes would be nice, too, as would the ability to see the total play time for each game.
These are all things the 3DS can do, so hopefully it wouldn’t be too difficult to implement them on the Switch...
Yes! I had been hoping for this - I’ve followed the game since its Kickstarter, but never ended up getting it on PS4...can’t wait to play it on Switch!
I was not expecting much from this one, but I actually found a good portion of the games interesting - namely, The Gardens Between, Bad North, This War of Mine, Moonlighter, Children of Morta and Everspace (which looks much better than Starlink, IMO). Looks like my gaming wishlist for the next few months is suddenly far more cluttered than it was this morning... 😊
Amazon and other UK retailers have had the game down for release on the 21st of September for a while - I preordered my copy from Base.com on the 20th of July, and it already had a set release date then. Glad to know it wasn’t a placeholder though! 😁
You guys at NL are killing me with all these Animal Crossing-related headlines...every time I see an AC thumbnail I get my hopes up for a special announcement/Direct about a new Switch game, only to have my hopes and dreams dashed a moment later when I read the title. 😫 On the other hand, this was kind of an interesting tidbit of information - and it explains why I sometimes got such strange replies from my villagers. 😁
As someone who is not really a fan of Smash, and who came out of E3 feeling rather disappointed with how the presentation ended up being 70% Smash, another dedicated Direct seems more than pointless. They already wet into extremely minute detail in the E3 event - what more is there to talk about?
The former president confirmed that they have not revealed the full lineup for Q4 2018 yet - so why not do a Direct focused on that, or even upcoming Nindies? I don’t know if it’s just me, but I’m pretty sure that would appease a much wider audience compared to a Smash-only broadcast.
For me it will be some Xenoblade 2 yet again - I have finally reached chapter 10, and am trying to complete some late-game side quests and grind for a few more rare blades before I tackle the final boss.
And there will be lots of Zelda, as well, though I won’t be the one actively playing it - my boyfriend has finally decided to give BotW a try (it’s his very first Zelda experience, I’m very proud), and is really getting into it. Though he has much to learn - yesterday I caught him trying to reach Hyrule Castle not 3 hours into the game (guardians kept wiping the floor with him, of course) and I had to explain that he will need more than a stick to kill Ganon...it was hilarious. 🤣
For me, it will be Overcooked 2, the Torna DLC, Little Dragons Cafe, Pokemon, and maybe (depending on whether it’s any good) Mario Party. Plus Moonlighter and Flipping Death later down the line once they go on sale. And the Spyro remaster is coming out in September for PS4, too... Considering that I’m currently playing XC2 and Captain Toad, and that my backlog includes Octopath Traveler, Fire Emblem Warriors, the Zelda and Mario Rabbids DLCs, and the last few missions on Hyrule Warriors, I probably have enough to happily game for the next 12 months or so. 😁
It doesn't look like there are shortages where I live, but this being the UK, I’m not surprised - there are far too many COD/Halo/AC fans here, and not nearly enough love for dear old Nintendo. ;P
I have to admit, I did not particularly enjoy the first demo - I played maybe half an hour of it, got bored, and deleted it off my Switch. Then I downloaded the second demo when it was announced, and boy, did I love it! It was a massive improvement on the first one, and it gripped me so much I played through the 3-hour limit in a single afternoon (after getting Primrose, Alfyn, and Therion).
After that, I preordered the Compendium Edition (which is so pretty it is now sitting on my bookshelf in all its glory), and I can’t wait to start playing! I’m going to wait until I beat Xenoblade 2, since I’m halfway through Chapter 8 and it would be difficult to play two massive JRPGs at the same time (unfortunately, I have to go to work and do adult things, eww), but I’m really looking forward to delving into that gorgeous-looking world.
For me it will be lots of Xenoblade 2 (that game is unbelievable), with some Captain Toad and Octopath sprinkled in-between. With my boyfriend off to met some friends up North and the parents on an impromptu trip away, I’ll have lots of free time - and I’m planning to spend all of it gaming away.
At risk of sounding like a Nintendo fangirl, I don’t really have any problems with this year’s lineup. As an adult gamer with a full-time job, my gaming time is relatively limited; even if I do buy only one game every month (and I don’t), I still end up with a massive backlog at the end of the day. Mario Odyssey, the BotW DLC, Skyrim and Hyrule Warriors kept me busy for the first half of the year, and now I have Xenoblade 2 (which is AWESOME and will keep me busy for a few months at least), and am planning to get Captain Toad, Octopath and Let’s Go Eevee when they release, which means I am pretty much set until 2019.
It is not the strongest lineup, but there are still plenty of games coming; just because not everyone will have a title they want to buy every month does not mean that we’re NINTENDOOMED!!!
If no games I want to play = no games, then the PS4 is an abysmal console, since the only games I want to play in 2018 are Ni No Kuni 2 and the Spyro remakes... Which means it’s all extremely subjective.
That’s very expensive...I managed to get the Pokeball Plus for retail price on Amazon a while back, and preordered the Eevee version on Base.com for £39, which works out at full £10 cheaper than the bundle, and £14.99 cheaper than buying the game and controller separate.
I got all excited when I saw the thumbnail and thought they announced a Fantasy Life port for Switch...then I read the title. 😭 I really hope Level 5 decides to port either the 3DS or mobile versions of the game, it would be perfect for Switch!
My boyfriend and I will be playing lots of Splatoon 2 this weekend, since there’s a splatfest here in the UK. And while he watches the race, I’ll be having some solo time with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - I’m only 3 hours in, but I’m LOVING it! Very glad I picked this instead of Lacrimosa of Dana, though it was a close one.
I have to admit, I am rather disappointed by the presentation. And I did not even go in with massive expectations.
While I will probably buy Smash, I am not a massive fan of the game, so the 20+ minutes they spent focusing on it just felt waaay overly bloated and detailed IMO. They did announce Mario Party, although I would hardly call that a big release, and they did finally show Fire Emblem (which looked AMAZING!), but that has been delayed to spring next year. Overall, it just was not exciting, and I found myself getting bored with the Smash info-dump very quickly.
Now, my question is: we know that Pokemon and Smash are going to be the November and December games, but what about August, September and October?
Q4 tends to be the prime window for big Nintendo releases, and I would be surprised if Nintendo banked on Captain Toad, Octopath, Starlink and Mario Party alone to carry them for the next 6 months. So...where are the big first-party names? Where is Yoshi, which we heard squat about, even though I am sure it was still slated for a 2018 release at the investors' meeting earlier this year? Where are Starfox, Pikmin and Animal Crossing? We did not even have any Mario Odyssey DLC or Wii/WiiU ports announced, so what has Nintendo been working on aside from Mario Party and Metroid all this time, since we have not had a new major first-party release since Mario Odyssey?
Sorry, end of rant...but it's good to see that I was not the only one who was left really disappointed after Ninty's show.
To be fair, this is a game that is being developed for Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo platforms at the same time - while it must be easy to keep the file size down when building with only the Switch in mind from the ground up, I imagine this would be a lot trickier if you had to severely compress a game that has also been built for more graphically capable home consoles that do not have this kind of storage limitations. And since the main aim of developers is to make profit, I doubt they would opt to buy bigger cartridges (cutting into their profits) or increase the price of the game (potentially reducing the number of sales).
No, I’m not too keen on the mandatory 15gb download, but I might buy this regardless (if it reviews well), as I really like what I’ve seen so far. I got a 200 GB micro SD for my Switch on sale before release, so I still have plenty of room to spare.

Re: Review: Super Mario Party - The Life And Soul Of The Party Once More
Very happy to know it’s a return ti form for the series!
Re: Nintendo Switch Now Supports Digital Game Sharing, But There's A Catch
Pity, I hoped it would be the same as on Playstation, where you simply download your games on up to a certain number of consoles, and all users associated with that console can then play the games...would have saved a lot of money since there are three Switch-owning people in my family, and we all play very similar games (especially indies). Still, well done Nintendo for (somewhat) catching up on this feature!
Re: Luigi's Mansion 3 Will Be Haunting The Switch Next Year
Honestly, this and Animal Crossing made me dance around the living room in celebration - they are two of my absolute favourite Nintendo franchises EVER, along with Zelda, Fire Emblem and Pokemon. Considering that games for 4 out of those 5 will be coming out next year, 2019 will officially be the best year ever in term of games IMO. Best Direct we got in a long time, 10/10 for me.
Re: Professor Layton And The Curious Village Will Be Released On Mobile In The West
I adored the whole Layton series in DS/3DS, I played through all six games more times than I can count. Would love a Switch collection, it would be a day-one purchase for me!
Re: All Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Players Will Receive In-Game Freebies To Celebrate The New DLC
So, wait...does that mean that, as someone who bought a used copy of the game for which points had already been redeemed, I won’t be able to access the freebies? Bummer...
Re: Two Limited Edition Pokémon Let's Go Switch Consoles Arrive This November
I like the yellow of the right joy-con, but I would have much preferred the left in cream (like the strap in the picture) rather than in that horrible brown. Will pass on this one - we’re looking to buy a second switch in the next year, but I might wait for an Animal Crossing-themed bundle to come out instead.
Re: Nintendo Posts Job Listings For Switch User Interface Engineers
I’d love to see folders on the Switch - my game collection is expanding a lot quicker than I had planned, and I now have to sort through too many icons to find older/less played games. Themes would be nice, too, as would the ability to see the total play time for each game.
These are all things the 3DS can do, so hopefully it wouldn’t be too difficult to implement them on the Switch...
Re: Well Would You Look At That, A Hat In Time Is Coming To Switch
Yes! I had been hoping for this - I’ve followed the game since its Kickstarter, but never ended up getting it on PS4...can’t wait to play it on Switch!
Re: Video: Check Out The 2018 Indie Highlights For Switch Video Right Here
I was not expecting much from this one, but I actually found a good portion of the games interesting - namely, The Gardens Between, Bad North, This War of Mine, Moonlighter, Children of Morta and Everspace (which looks much better than Starlink, IMO). Looks like my gaming wishlist for the next few months is suddenly far more cluttered than it was this morning... 😊
Re: Little Dragons Café Secures A September Release Date On Switch In Europe
Amazon and other UK retailers have had the game down for release on the 21st of September for a while - I preordered my copy from Base.com on the 20th of July, and it already had a set release date then. Glad to know it wasn’t a placeholder though! 😁
Edit: spelling mistake.
Re: Random: Here's How Animal Crossing Characters Read Your Lovingly-Crafted Mail
Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct Livestream Coming This Wednesday
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 4th)
Re: Guide: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For August And September
Re: Square Enix Issues Apology After Underestimating Huge Octopath Traveler Demand
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend?
For me it will be lots of Xenoblade 2 (that game is unbelievable), with some Captain Toad and Octopath sprinkled in-between. With my boyfriend off to met some friends up North and the parents on an impromptu trip away, I’ll have lots of free time - and I’m planning to spend all of it gaming away.
Re: Guide: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For July And August
For me it will be Octopath, Captain Toad, Little Dragons Cafe, Flipping Death, Moonlighter, and the Torna DLC - so many games, so little time!
Re: Nintendo Hasn't Revealed Its Full 2018 Lineup, Says Outgoing President Tatsumi Kimishima
Re: Deals: Get An Amazing Bonus With Your Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee Pre-Order
That’s very expensive...I managed to get the Pokeball Plus for retail price on Amazon a while back, and preordered the Eevee version on Base.com for £39, which works out at full £10 cheaper than the bundle, and £14.99 cheaper than buying the game and controller separate.
Re: Fantasy Life, Fire Emblem And F-Zero Feature In The Latest European My Nintendo Discounts
I got all excited when I saw the thumbnail and thought they announced a Fantasy Life port for Switch...then I read the title. 😭 I really hope Level 5 decides to port either the 3DS or mobile versions of the game, it would be perfect for Switch!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend?
My boyfriend and I will be playing lots of Splatoon 2 this weekend, since there’s a splatfest here in the UK. And while he watches the race, I’ll be having some solo time with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - I’m only 3 hours in, but I’m LOVING it! Very glad I picked this instead of Lacrimosa of Dana, though it was a close one.
Happy gaming, everyone!
Re: Review: Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)
I’m a little surprised by the score...is this really on the same level as Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (which was also rated 9)?
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's E3 2018 Went Big On Smash Bros. But Left Us Wanting More
I have to admit, I am rather disappointed by the presentation.
Re: Ubisoft Collaborating With Virtuos For The Switch Version Of Starlink: Battle For Atlas
