Re: Review: OlliOlli (Wii U eShop)

Just picked up the sequel On PS4. It's in the Instant Game Collection this month. The learning curve is steep and it takes a few hours to click but once it does its incredibly addictive.

@jsty3105

Good to hear! I'm just about to take on the second Mangala. The Gore was by far the toughest monster I've taken down so far So wish me luck!

I jumped online with a few friends for the first time a few nights ago. We spent the whole night grinding a few monsters for a weapon or two each and had an absolute blast! I see this game lasting me a long time which is refreshing in the age of 10 hour long fast food triple A titles.

Re: Eiji Aonuma Hints at The Legend of Zelda on Wii U Being "More Than Just a Single-Player Experience"

Jey887

It shouldn't be "Developers focus on multi-player too much and the game sucks", it should be "as long as it doesn't affect the quality of the single player experience then why not".

If that's the case then I'm all for it. Some people like multi-player. Others don't. If you don't like it then don't use it. The idea that including multi-player in a game will somehow make it worse is a bit silly. Mario Kart has multi-player, is it any less of a single player experience because of it? Nope.

Re: Mario Kart 8 and Tomodachi Life Show Decent Momentum in UK Charts

Jey887

Good to see a Wii U game sticking around in the top 10. It already has a lot more staying power than 3D World. This summer is barren for all formats too so I think it'll be there or there abouts for a while.

Have any figures been released for the Wii U sales since Mk8 hit the shelves? (in the UK I mean).

Re: Video: Watch Our Handy Highlight Video To See How Nintendo Silenced Its Critics At E3 2014

Jey887

Who 'won' e3 (hate that term) isn't defined by how many games they show/ what's coming out this year. It's all about the buzz and excitement generated. I don't think anyone can deny Nintendo did this much more successfully than the other two (mainly thanks to the format they chose - live press conferences are dying a slow and painful death).

The Microsoft press conference was ok even though all we saw was teaser CGI trailers. Sunset Overdrive does look great though. I've been looking for a game to justify an xbox one purchase and that might just be it.

Re: Mercedes DLC Confirmed for Mario Kart 8 in the West

Jey887

@rjejr I'd be extremely surprised if we didn't get a concrete date of the start of December relatively soon. There is no way they will delay it. At this point a slightly imperfect SSB is better for Nintendo to release that sweet FA at Xmas. I'm confident it'll be 100% done. Looked pretty close at e3. If not, well.... I guess there's always the option to patch......

Re: Mercedes DLC Confirmed for Mario Kart 8 in the West

Jey887

@Sparx Themed DLC like that is actually a pretty cool idea. Even if it's only one extra character and a track. It would be a good excuse to further market the game once those times of the year hit too.

Nintendo should just hire me for their marketing...

Re: Mercedes DLC Confirmed for Mario Kart 8 in the West

Jey887

Looks alright to me. Like a poster said above, it will hardly look as realistic with monster truck or sponge tires on it. Sure it's product placement but it's entirely optional. You can't turn your head in modern society without something being advertised to you. Don't like it - Don't use it.

What's more important about this is that it proves Mk8 has the ability to add DLC... I'm not generally a fan of DLC but I can make an exception in this case. More characters please!

Re: Industry Analyst Predicts Disappointing Outcome For Wii U Lifetime Sales

Jey887

On topic - I think everyone is well aware that the Wii U is going to come in third after all is said and done. Whether or not Nintendo will view it as a failure i'm not so sure.

Nintendo is in a unique position in that a huge portion of the install base are going to buy first party games. Ok, they might only sell 30 million consoles but if their first party software is shifting 10-15 million units then they will still be making a ton of profit.

Re: Industry Analyst Predicts Disappointing Outcome For Wii U Lifetime Sales

Jey887

@Peach64
I wouldn't say Knack sold poorly. If it hadn't been a launch title it would have sold a hell of a lot less thanks to the critical reception it got. I take your point about the PS4 bundles though - Although I know my local GAME would only let you have one of the limited PS4's they had in stock if you took it as part of a bundle (all of which included Knack). Might have only contributed to a small amount of sales overall but they are still sales the game wouldn't have had otherwise.

Re: Wii U Hardware Sales Take a Significant Leap in Japan

Jey887

@tanookisuit that's a good point but I think the lower amount of interest is probably because it's an MMO. For a Dragon Quest game 117k sales on Wii is pretty low considering the size of the IP and the install base. With the Wii U struggling as it is I don't think a 20k boost in sales can be considered anything but a good thing.

Re: Wii U Hardware Sales Take a Significant Leap in Japan

Jey887

@Peach64 It would be interesting to see the attachment figures. If you include downloads and download cards (not sure if they are included In the figures) then a large portion of those sales could be down to 3D world. As many have pointed out it's an evergreen title. If it pushes an extra 5-10k consoles a week then that's a huge boost.

Re: Video: Here's Another Chance to Check Out Nintendo's VGX Appearance

Jey887

If Nintendo had boycotted the show would people still say they had missed an opportunity to address their problems? Why are people acting like these awards are such a big deal? They're not! Hence the reason we got a few minor announcements and nothing else.

Let's see what TGS, E3 and PAX have in store. These are the shows people care about/ put stock in. Although you could argue even they aren't really relevant anymore.

Re: Video: Here's Another Chance to Check Out Nintendo's VGX Appearance

Jey887

@JaxonH
Best post I've seen since using this site. This is exactly how I feel. Nintendo is never going to appeal to this market. Selling a Wii U on the back of one game only to have no more come out for the system that people are happy with will create even more negative PR and subsequently future problems.

It's funny how people think a system/ first game needs to sell a certain amount to be considered a success. Figures in the gaming industry are so skewed out of proportion that the fact is no-one knows the break even point, how much profit is being made per unit or how many sales a game needs to make before its a 'success'.

As gamers when did we become more obsessed about sales figures than the actual games we play? Let Nintendo worry about that stuff. They've been doing it for years.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Confirms Playable Cranky Kong and Release Date for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Jey887

@WiiUExposed
I get that ridiculing Nintendo seems to be the done thing online these days but it isn't indicitive of everyone's attitudes towards them.

People need to realise that Nintendo are going to do it their way. The Wii was a fluke and it isn't going to happen again. The market just isn't there. The Wii U has basically picked up from where the N64/ Gamecube left off.

The 3DS is printing money for them at this point so there really is no worry over Nintendo as a company. As for the future of the Wii U.. we'll see. As long as i'm getting my 1st party Nintendo games i'll be happy.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Confirms Playable Cranky Kong and Release Date for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Jey887

No other company can release two 90+ metacritic games in the past few weeks and still get ridiculed like Nintendo does. I've been fairly critical in the way they have handled the Wii U but most of the criticism is just plainly unfair and untrue.

@WiiUExposed

That just isn't true. I have plenty of non-Nintendo gaming friends that respect them and praise what they are trying to do. Stop making assumptions based on the small minority of people who post on rubbish media sites.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Picks Up Best Handheld Game VGX Award

Jey887

@Gamer83

JRPG's are stronger now than they ever were. They did slip off the radar for a while (in the west at least) thanks to Final Fantasy being rubbish these days but it's made them come back stronger. Ni No Kuni, Xenoblade, SMT and Persona are all fantastic. Bravely Default seems like another winner too (only 5 hours in). I feel sorry for people missing out on these gems thanks to a misconception of the genre.

Totally agree with you about ALBW. Fantastic game. Deserves all the praise it's getting.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Confirms Playable Cranky Kong and Release Date for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Jey887

Are people seriously getting their knickers in a twist over this? Why are people acting like things need to be announced at crappy award shows to generate any interest? From what I read we got an announcement for an updated Tomb Raider and a Telltale Game of Thrones game... Big Whoop. Hardly the stage to show off a new Zelda or Metroid.

Any games company could announce a teaser trailer for any new game at any time and it will be all over the net within minutes.Nintendo Direct is a platform to show this stuff. Regardless of whether somneone is watching it at the time it'll be all over media sites very quickly.

Re: Digital Foundry Heaps Praise on Super Mario 3D World

Jey887

It's one of - if not THE best - Mario games ever made. It's amazing what they have done. I'm currently on my second playthrough and still loving it.

on a side note - I've just been into Derby Westfield centre and they have a huge Wii U and 3ds stall showing off all the popular games. It was rammed! I couldn't even get close. I can't help but be cautiously optimistic. The tide really does seem to be turning somewhat.

Re: Super Mario 3D World Sells 57% of Its Initial Shipment in Japan

Jey887

@Peach64 Not everyone. I want to take the bad with the good! Can't really know what's going on without all the facts.

I don't really understand how they could make fewer 3D Marios considering we only really get 1, maybe 2, per console generation.

Current sales figures (factoring in the reported US sales) would suggest the market is big enough to justify them being developed.

Re: Super Mario 3D World Sells 57% of Its Initial Shipment in Japan

Jey887

Were people really expecting 200k+ people to rush out and by a Wii U and Mario within 48 hours of release?

100k plus download sales is actually very respectable considering the small install base. Mario should be a game that will sell Wii U's at a steady rate over a larger period of time.

Also... Seems to have sold well in the US.
