Nintendo UK has today announced its Splatoon 2 UK Championship, with a number of qualification events taking place over the coming weeks. Successful teams will participate in a live-streamed grand final at EGX 2017 towards the end of September, which will see all eight qualifying teams battle it out for the ultimate UK crown.
Thanks to Nintendo UK, Nintendo Life will be entering a very special team into the grand final event, made up of two NL staff members, including our very own YouTube host Alex Olney, and two NL readers. That's where you come in.
We're on the hunt for a pair of Splatoon 2 players that can join us and help bring home the championship to Nintendo Life.
To be in with a chance you’ll need to team up with a friend and play in League Battle during the 19:00-21:00 slot on Wednesday 30th August as a pair and, after the battle, share a screenshot of your record score with us on Twitter, mentioning @NintendoLife and using the hashtag #UKSplatChamps, showing your pair’s highest league power. If Twitter's not really your thing, you can alternatively just email us at [email protected].
The pair with the highest league power will make the team and represent Nintendo Life alongside our staff at EGX! Also, the winning pair will of course get free entry to EGX along with travel expenses and some other goodies.
Whilst we'll be playing for the glory, each team member of the grand final winning team will also receive a trophy, a Splatoon 2 fan-bundle full of Splatoon merchandise, and an exclusive champion’s jersey to commemorate their achievement.
So, UK Splatoon 2 players, we need you!

Wish I was good enough for this stuff.
too bad im not in the uk
THIS IS SO EXCTING! It's like that fun little Mario Kart 8 Deluxe party that NL held in the weekend after launch, except super serious business. Really looking forward to entering. : )
I know we've got some pretty ace players on the forums, but I'm not sure how many are based in the UK. Still, August the 30th leaves plenty of time for teams to get organised. Let's go〜!
This sucks for me I'm from Canada.
The big news from this is that Nintendo will be at EGX this year. Last year they were missing.
Is it mandatory to live in the UK to join the tryouts? Still lacking a partner too. :/
Would be great fun to join though.
Best of luck to all participants!
Never played Splatoon so maybe not the best choice, also costs me £ 125 to get to London (well that's where I'm guessing it is gonna be held)
Welp, there goes my chance. I'm just a dirty 'Murican.
Good luck all
Damm can't said players be from Portugal
I would love to give it a shot but I do not have UK based Splatoon friends... anyone interested in teaming up?
@Bunkerneath It's at the NEC in Birmingham, 2014 was the last main EGX event in London as Earls Court closed down in December 2014.
Would love to join... but I don't live in the UK and I'm not good enough anyway.
Go get em Team NL! Excited to see who makes the team and how you fair in the tournament.
This is cool and all, but a bunch of gamers just won 10 million dollars for winning a tournament. The fan base for Splatoon is big enough worldwide, and Nintendo games are inherently complex enough to make these tournaments sanctioned for cash rewards.
Might give it ago need to find a decent player to do it with though.
@Bunkerneath Nintendo is paying for the travel for any team that makes it. It was confirmed a while back when they announced it.
Awww I'm from North America
For the 'friendless' you can qualify solo through ESL for a different team, not sure of the exact details but it's all the nintendo UK site.
Link is on the top of this page. Tempted to give this a go but no idea if I could actually go to EGX.
@NightMoon Toronto represent!
@JarJarBlacks Woot.
To bad I'm in the states...
We're coming to help, Alex.
Well gosh darn it, I'm American so...
@Jazzer94 After reading this I imagined half the competition would be people squabbling over who gets paired with the best players to play in the League Battle with, but it seems a lot of the Splatsters on the forum - including many of the high ranking players - are based either in the States or 'on the continent'.
Anyway, I'd happily throw my name into the ring if your looking for a partner. I'm currently on SSS+, with the plus being in Tower Control. I've been away for the last 5 days (a period in which I like to think I would have pushed the other two modes up to pluses), but I'll be back in the Splat Seat long before the 30th, and am unbooked around EGX time too.
Let me know if you're still up for it and unpaired.
@nintendolifestaff
Hi, look forward to seeing you back at EGX, Are you doing anymore at the show this year, as i've missed your area in the last few years?
Ps. the last time you did a splatoon completion I was in the team that won on the Sunday so do I get free entry? lol
