While we're keen to play Shakedown Hawaii, the next game from Vblank Entertainment, the studio has confirmed that Nintendo Switch owners will be able to pass the time with its spiritual predecessor. Retro City Rampage DX is heading to the Switch eShop, and is aiming for release within the next few weeks (potentially as early as next week).
It's a game familiar to Nintendo gamers, having previously arrived on WiiWare and then in its DX form on the 3DS eShop. As you can see in the details and trailer below, the Switch version will have its own minor changes and adjustments.
Like each port before it, it contains little tweaks that polish the game even further (I just can't help myself!). From little things like the slightly more stylish score display, to improved enemy stomp and swimming controls, to improved lock-on targeting, and mission difficulty tweaks. If you couldn't beat Death Cam VHS before, you'll have a leg up on Switch!

As for Shakedown's release, don't worry! This surprise port hasn't lead to any sort of delays with that. If anything, this'll ensure that once ready, Shakedown gets through Nintendo Switch certification quickly, since our road's been paved by RCR:DX.
We've been big fans of this one's previous releases, so it could certainly be fun to experience it again on Switch. Are you planning to pick it up?

BOO! I want Shakedown Hawaii release date news. Not a game I've already had on 3ds for years.
A 7 year old game comes to switch...nah I'm good. Keep it!
I'm excited for this one!
I can see me triple dipping here, considering everytime I got it it was a humble bundle freebie.

This is the best game. It's amazing. It's the only game I've bought several times.
@PAHTK I'm the same; the only reason I got around to getting it is because it came in a bundle, but it deserves to receive full price.
@Rafx I want the world. I want the whole world. GIVE IT TO ME NOW!
I'm not too keen on this game. It was alright, but Shakedown Hawaii looks so much more interesting
Well, its something considering the Wii U never got a version of it. True, they used the "Its already on the Wii Shop through Wii Mode" excuse but still.....
Do want!
I saw this under the 'coming soon' on the UK Eshop earlier. It's quite a good source for upcoming titles actually,I've spotted 2 or 3 upcoming games on there before they were reported . I had to do a double take when I saw this one, my first thought was "get in there" as I thought it was the sequel but then I remembered the name of the sequel and felt disappointed. I didn't particularly enjoy Retro City.
I actually just bought this for my Wii but I will definitely get it again on my Switch because I like supporting my Nindies and their superb games c:
I got it in a sale for about 3 dollars. Played a couple of hours and it impressed the hell outta me( Didnt play more because of my backlog ). I can see myself double dipping to play it on my soon to be Nintendo Switch.
I'll be supporting Vblank for a while ;D
I'll definitely give this one a revisit.
The Switch version is a little on the pricey side, but I might still be tempted to buy it again as I really liked it on 3DS.
This is up there with Cave Story, Shovel Knight and Binding of Isaac in the indie hall of fame for me. It's a wonderful game that just happens to be indie.
@Priceless_Spork me too! I beat it on 3ds and vita. And I'm going to buy it again. I love this game
Nice! Don't think I'll double dip on this, or at least not right away, but it's a great game filled with references.
Never bought this on Wii or 3DS (when I had one) can't wait!
Wow! Another nice surprise announcement today!! Great addition to the Switch library!
Well...let's see...I already have this on my old 3DS, PS3, and PS4...and I may actually dip into it again to have it on the Switch for the bigger portable screen, depending on pricing, etc, since it sounds like there were even more improvements made for this release of the game. I never really got very far into it...but what I did play was great fun.
Great game, but unless theres a loyalty discount, I'll just wait for the sequel! Beat it on Wiiware years ago and have it on 3DS and PSN.
I am tempted to triple dip on this. never finished it but what I played I enjoyed.
I'll end up buying it because I'm in love with retro gaming, but is it too much to ask for a special edition physical release?
I'll triple dip on this one. Brian Provinciano deserves every dollar! He's a one-man coding division!
Day one for me. Glad it's not left behind on my 3DS.
Never played this one and was only thinking the other day that id like to try it before shakedown arrives 😀
Nice! Got the Wii version but always put off getting the 3DS one. Will be grabbing this
haven't played on it for a long time as I no longer use my 3ds anymore so providing its around the same price I would love to play it again on the switch
Like others for a second when I saw this on the e-shop I thought it was the newer game.
However I never played the original so may have to pick this one up. Going on holiday next week so might be good for some poolside gaming. Was however hoping this would be nearer the £8.99 price tag of various other indies.
I just might have to buy this yet again!
say, does anybody remember how the WiiWare version had trouble hitting the payment threshold? Did the developer ever see money for that Version, do you know?
@Angelic_Lapras_King that excuse never bothered me. I have the tons of Wii Vc/Wiiware games that I still play. I use a classic controller with the game pad as a tv even when I want to play offtv. One of many reasons why my Wii U will always be hooked up.
I will end up getting this again, but on sale. Great game. Shakedown Hawaii is day 1 purchase though.
Never played this on any system before so I will definitely be picking this up at launch!
cool will look good on switch screen
all depends on the price, show me the money!
@JHDK lol
Unless cross-saves are possible (which is unlikely), I might feel hard-pressed to give up the time I've invested into 3DS version since last summer already. Shakedown Hawaii will certainly be a Switch purchase for me, of course.
Nice. Already played it, but it's great for those that haven't. Really looking forward to Shakedown Hawaii
Does anyone have more on this, how certification works with Switch?
"As for Shakedown's release, don't worry! This surprise port hasn't lead to any sort of delays with that. If anything, this'll ensure that once ready, Shakedown gets through Nintendo Switch certification quickly, since our road's been paved by RCR:DX."
Brian truly makes the game on every platform, but still never managed to release it on Wii U and instead hid behind the Wiiware excuse.
Unbelievably I've never owned this so it's a instabuy next week for me.
