Some of the appeal of this game, at least for Norwegian 90s kids, is that it's in fact a fairly faithful remake of the 2000 PC game of the same name. Surprisingly, though, the new version has left out about half of the original selection of minigames.

@StevenG Hehe, yes, you're right. I meant that it only feels worse in MP1, since the timing of your jump doesn't change the outcome in the slightest, since the rng decides on the value before the round starts. You can run MP1 in an emulator and restart the round a hundred times without rolling anything but a 1. Ofc, you still have no actual control of the outcome in any of the other MP games either - and who'd bother try and cheat MP in an emulator anyway - but it feels a little different to me nonetheless.

@KingMike They used an emulator to roll the die several times over on the exact same frame. The outcome was "random", meaning even if you were a machine timing the throw precisely, you wouldn't be able to predict the number.

In Mario Party 1 it's even worse, since the die roll for each player is determined before each round starts.

If it were some kind of hint towards a Sunshine release for Switch, they at least should have had Shines instead of Stars on Mario's shorts.

You should do an interview with the good people at Rose Colored Gaming too! They manufacture some real high-quality Nintendo shells, display stands, and other stuff too.

@Arkay @ToonStuff I agree! But I guess you could say Nintendo already gave us that DLC in the Wii U edition, which was sold as part of the standard Mario Kart 8 game for Switch, aka the Deluxe edition.

Interesting! Does anyone have an opinion on whether or not it would make sense to make the Joy-Cons non-detachable for a potential Switch Mini? I would think that could sacrifice some important aspects of playing certain games, but I admit I don't have any broad knowledge on the topic.

I feel like the Pokémon series is a prime example of why story is not all that important to this type of RPG: We would have been fine without it, and when there are story elements, oh man, are they boring.

I know this is totally uninteresting for most of you, but for once during a Nintendo release there have been zero stock shortages in Norway. It's actually such a stark contrast to what I hear and read about everywhere else that I'm starting to wonder if Nintendo of Europe simply has fallen in love with us or something.

The only thing on my mind is "pretty please, do something about the controller!" I'm super hyped for the N64 Mini, but how will I hold that tiny, weird controller in my hands? The original gave me blisters enough as it was. #marioparty1neveragain

Yessir, I'm more than ready to play and enjoy a good Pokémon game on console! I am very optimistic after reading your review, and I really hope your comment that exploration is rewarded lives up to my expectations. Man, have those games made us walk around talking to everyone, only to make us realize most every NPC says nothing of interest and offer no items.

Legends now has DLC featuring Link's Awakening and Spirit Tracks, both under-appreciated and great portable Zeldas, in my opinion. Maan, is that a pleasant surprise, having such great content in a game I underestimated so much.

@Folkloner Yeah, I guess. I'm probably just a little disappointed that's it for the whole hybrid idea. It's definitely neat, and the power of the NX seems very fit for the handheld part. But a concern on my part if that's true is just the lack of any real 'hybridity', that is, any real handheld + home system. It's a TV connector for a (decently powered) handheld system - a standalone GameBoy Player for the current gen, if you will. Hopefully, the rumors of the base station having additional power will prove to be true. I'll try not to worry too much, though, as these things are uncomfirmed.

There is one aspect of this that I don't fully understand, and please call me an idiot on account of that.

What is the function of the base station, besides displaying the content on a larger screen? Does it boost the performance of whatever the handheld component can handle, in addition to powering it? If so, how does that work, and if not, what is the point, as the base station then doesn't seem like much more than a mere TV connector and power supply?

Again, I'm probably just an ignorant idiot when it comes to tech, but it's more of an honest question than a rant.

Aah, this looks really good! And bashing Nuts & Bolts makes my heart skip a beat as I fall in love with the true successor to Rareware.

@BlatantlyHeroic Yes, I guess it's not obvious how they could change up the games to make them more appealing - to me, that is. I buy into all the generations anyway, so it's not like it's going to matter much for me materialistically speaking what they do with them.

Vaster areas to explore would be nice. The thrill and excitement of unexpectedly rediscovering Kanto after Johto in Gold/Silver was a feeling that never really returned for me in the later installments.

Also, please, please make them get rid of the annoyingly large 3D cities that are just tedious to explore. You don't really get much in return for walking around. The genuinely interesting places are the smaller towns and the great outdoors!

@SLIGEACH_EIRE I think that was after only around 20 unique reviews, so I wouldn't worry too much about that score. It's currently at 72. And the game isn't even released yet!
