3DS eShop title Detective Pikachu has been rated by the PEGI for a Europe release, it has been revealed.
The Pokémon spin-off - which is getting a Hollywood movie with Ryan Reynolds in the lead role - launched in Japan way back in February 2016. It plays like a classic point-and-click adventure, where you have to find clues and chat with other characters to unravel various cases.
The game has received a PEGI rating of 3 and up, and a placeholder release date (which is best ignored) of 31/12/2020.

Didn't think this would ever see a western release! Hopefully it turns out to be good.
Wonder if this is due to them finally getting an English VA?
Kinda hope they somehow insert the line "What the heck is a Pikachu?" Into the film.
Is that a game ?
A game-based movie-based Pikachu game? I'm actually kind of curious.
It makes perfect sense. If they are going out of their way to make a western voiced movie for Detective Pikachu, they were definitely going to make the 3DS title localized. Can not wait!
they're still going to put it out on 3DS? huh.
Makes sense. The 3DS doesn’t have that long left, this game already exists and with a language editing it fills out the year.
It'd be a little odd for it to be localized so late, but with the upcoming movie being based off of it, they probably want Western audiences to be familiar with the game it's based off of.
@PtM Yes, it doesn't make sense, actually. It's convoluted, though, and I'm kind of excited to see whether or not it becomes a typical movie-based game, or if it'll be properly developed.
Please bring this to the US and UK! This is the Pokemon game I want to play on 3DS and I think it would be a great sendoff for the system.
Do ya think they had Ryan Reynolds voice Pikachu, or Nolan North?
@PtM Well, that's a little rude.
I've been intrigued by this one for a little while. It's nice to see that it's finally getting a release outside of Japan.
Finally.
North America too, please.
@Tsurii There's definitely an element of 'My First Detective Game' to it, but it doesn't go out of its way to alienate anyone over the age of 10 - at least, no more than any mainline entry in the series. If anything, some of the delivery is more blatantly 'grown-up' than most of what you'll find in the main games.
As for length, it's nowhere near as beefy as a full retail game, but it's not completely insubstantial either. It tells a decent yarn in its own right, and is supposed to be 'episodic', which should draw the story out further. Having said that, I've got no idea what platform it's sequels will eventually come out on, given the age of the 3DS.
I'm not sure how well it'll sell in the West, but it was certainly an interesting little title, and the movie should help give it an extra little push.
@manu0 No reason they can't release a Switch version too. This movie's gonna need all the promoting it can to sell....
@Anti-Matter yes.
