During today's fun-packed and feature-rich Nintendo Direct it was confirmed that a new Legend of Zelda game is in development for the Nintendo 3DS.
Set in the same world as The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past — but boasting original dungeons and an all-new storyline — the game adopts a top-down perspective but uses 3D graphics that make use of the console's auto-stereoscopic display.
During the presentation many familiar elements were shown, but this time around Link is able to transform himself into a drawing and "stick" to walls — a vital skill when it comes to navigating the various locations in the game.
The title is expected to launch towards the end of the year. You can start screaming with happiness now.

You'd think they'd go with sprites. Ah well, I dig the retro vibe!
Yaaay!!! Great idea! Just don't make me use the touch screen to walk
It's so beautiful... I think I'll trade Harley for it.
DA DA DA DAAAAAAAAAAA! :3
Don't forget to mention that a downloadable 3D trailer of the game will be available for download today in the Nintendo eShop
great news. don't like the new art style though.
I they're announcing games like this on a Nintendo Direct, I wonder what E3 is going to be like.
Looks like i have to complete ALttP now. Hype!
So... Doodle Link?
And here I thought It'd be a disappointment if the Majora Remake turned out to be just a rumor and then we get this retro-tastic title instead!
Looking forward to seeing how the world has changed since last time we visited it.
Too much zelda recycling if you ask me.
Sweet candy sword. This is awesome.
@Hysterical They're either going to announce nothing, or perhaps they are also working on a Majora's Mask remake which could be released next year. I'm sure they'll show off the new Zelda at E3, and maybe a bit of the game play for this new Zelda and the Wind Waker remake.
Please play nice — TBD
It was excellent the way they presented this ! I was completely blown away. For all the people out there complaining , wait . Wait until it develops into the final version , play it and then decide . For now , it's a new Zelda , I mean C'MON !
this is an awesome early bday gift for me. in fact, it's TOO early
On E3 they can still reveal 3D Mario, Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. But we know about all of those already. I really can't see Nintendo working on more games than this...?
YES THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED!
Thank you, Nintendo!
@Geonjaha It is good to inform people when the mass doesn't agree with their opinion though. That way they can change their minds in order to not look like a fool. Muahahaha...
Mind Blown OMG!!!
I want to pre order this! I am glad that is is basically ALTTP 2.
Also, everything is recycled. Originality doesn't exist. Everything "new" is made from building upon old ideas.
Seriously people, that Nintendo Direct blew my mind. I'm speechless. (hence why I am typing )
An all new original Zelda game for 3DS! Finally! Screw Majora's Mask 3D, because a Link to the Past sequel is what I wanted and it's finally happening! This will be the best game ever made for 3DS and one of the best games ever made for Zelda. I can tell you guys that right now. I will get it this Christmas!
Awesome I can't wait for this. It feels like I haven't played a new Zelda game in forever.
Sweet can't wait, love A Link to the Past.
this is amazing!
Almost makes me want to buy a 3DS.
New Zelda and this year I'm in! Can't wait to give this a go.......yes I can lol. I have too much to play and beat before it comes out!
I just got the downloadable video of it. Type in Zelda on the eshop and it's the first thing that'll come up.
Oh, so many questions....
Who's the baddie? Wasn't everything peachy after Link got the Triforce? Will there be hopping between worlds?
But the big question is:
Is this the same Link as in the original?
@Moshugan Time will tell, my friend...
My mentality after seeing this was, "Forget MM3D!"
Not a fan of the art style, and I was never able to get into A Link to the Past. Played it maybe an hour and didn't touch it again (got it 4 months ago). Doubt I'll get it
I'll hold my judgement about the art style until I see actual video from my 3DS screen. But seriously, this is A Link to the Past style of gameplay we're talking about. My second favorite Zelda game behind Ocarina.
All I can say is that I'm a very happy 3DS owner
I like the art style. It looks new while retaining the appearance of ALttP.
Meh. The 3DS is capable of a lot more than this. We could be playing Mario and Zelda games with huge worlds in 3D (gameplay) to explore. Just seems such a waste to me. It looks pretty. But the dynamics of the game (basically ALthP, going by the screenshots) could have been done on the GBA.
Oh, by the way... what's left for E3? New Retro project.
Love the but where the drawing of link walks through the bars on the window, great idea. Really good Nintendo direct, this, bravely default, shin megami iv, yoshi's island, fantastic
I died and went to heaven today. Srsly.
There are no words to describe what they showed today.
I was certainly not expecting new game reveals today! Very happy to see this and a new Yoshi's Island. Also especially happy about Earthbound since I missed it the first time around.
The art style looks a bit odd on this, but i suspect it will really pop inn 3D. looking forward to the 3D trailer!
WOW!!! I never thought I'd see another 2D over the top perspective traditional Zelda game again!!! This looks amazing!!
Oh and best of all: no touchscreen-walkin' it seems!
I love A Link to the Past and will look forward to this as well.
I will be getting it but I am someone who is not a fan of the art style they went with, I guess I will grow to like it when I get my hands on it.
@SkywardLink98 watch out we have an awesome guy over here
This game looks incredible! I'm ecstatic to have a new top-down Zelda game being made!
To all the people who said me wanting a new top down lttp style zelda was stupid...
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK
Please please don't make us use the touch screen to move!
@IxnayontheCK Seriously, this is my only worry. But I remember them saying that they weren't going to use them after Spirit Tracks.
@CowLaunch Yeah, Nintendo has pretty much dedicated themselves to always optimizing games for the systems they're on. They want to keep their console titles and their handheld titles separate, so we'll probably never stop getting top-down games on our handhelds, because the big 3D games are for the consoles. It often works in their favor, but sometimes it's just annoying. As they proved with Paper Mario, they're pretty much unwilling to make an epic adventure on the system.
@CowLaunch I might want a 3D game if I didn't massively prefer the top down games and ALTTP wasn't my favorite Zelda game and one of my favorite games of all time.
This is by far my most anticipated 3DS game.
@Joshers744: Agreed. They really hurt the DS Zelda's with forcing you to use the touch screen to move around:(
Game looks awesome and totally took me by surprise! Did not expect a new Zelda game to be coming out this year!
This is great news. I agree it's time to do more and present something more fresh but some things are always satisfying. I got super burnt out on the Mario formula but I'm still a sucker for all things Zelda. A WiiU Zelda alone would be a system seller for me, until then 3DS is so much better.
I remember when they hinted that ALTTP would be perfect for a 3D classics with its two levels of depth inside dungeons.
I'm glad we have a new full fledged game out of this thought and also a bit sad not to have the ALTTP 3D classics version. I just like this game.
All I see is Nintendo being lazy again, and the name Zelda always sells.
They should have just call this game New Legend Of Zelda, since is it looks like those NSMB games.
am i the only one who noticed that this is an eshop game? it said so right at the end of the video
It's not an eshop game, the trailer will be available in the eshop.
I can't stop humming the overworld theme. I'm so excited. Nintendo are giving us four Zelda games this year. Oracle of Ages, Oracle of Seasons, Wind Waker HD and Zelda 3DS. It's a great year for Zelda fans.
OK, 2 things we KNOW about this game:
1 - Stamina Bar (I hate it)
2 - There will be NO Mater Sword as this is a Sequel to A Link to the Past.
@Trikeboy Agreed. It should be called The Year of Zelda instead of The Year of Luigi.
Ha. My heart pounded a bit when they said they were releasing a new zelda game for the 3DS
@erv What zelda game do you know of where Link becomes a drawing on a wall to solve puzzles?
I noticed something! Link looks like a heroglyph! (Pun intended)
I'm a little bit disappointed. I have always preferred the post-Ocarina of Time Zeldas, so a sequel to LttP is not my deal. Plus it's ugly IMO, I mean look at the art style. Nay, It won't be my type of Zelda sequel. ..
I also hope they leave the stylus-to-move controls behind in this one. This is the reason I cannot finish Phantom Hourglass on my DS.
So, does this go between A Lint to the Past and Link's Awakening?
Or does it come after the Oracle series?
Also,
A Link to the Past NEEDS to be released on the 3DS!!!!
I just knew we would get a 2D style Zelda game eventually. This looks fantastic! Despite the iffy art style (I'll get used to it) well done Nintendo~
I agree with Bingly, I hated the stylus controls on Hourglass and Tracks, I really hope that they ether go straight button/directional pad or give us both options. THe game looks awesome though! Can't wait to play it.
@Red_Kinetic Where is the stamina bar you are talking about? All I see is the magic bar but I could be completely blind and I am missing another bar.
@DerpSandwich - that;s funny, I was thinking just the opposite today while watching the ND
Wii U gets NSMBU and Yoshis Yarn Planet - both 2D - while the 3DS gets Luig's Mansion and Mario and Luigi Dream Team - both open world 3D. And the 3DS also got Kid Icarus which really should have been saved for a WiiU launch title.
The 3DS is getting all the good games, the WiiU is getting robbed. (Mario Party should have also been WiiU - it's a party game for crying out loud.)
Haters to the left. This is amazing and looks so much better than the last two Zelda handhelds.
@Red_Kinetic I'm hoping they release Link to the Past along side this new game. It would be like releasing Ocarina of Time Master Quest with Wind Waker. Also, there isn't enough information to tell where it comes in the timeline but my bet is it comes between Link to the Past and the Oracle games. I'm glad we are getting a new game on the downfall timeline, it's been too long since we visited that timeline.
Also, it looks like a magic bar, not a stamina bar. Link uses magic and it goes down. However, it could be a stamina bar.
That Green bar is the Stamina Bar.
Meh, after seeing what they did with Ocarina of Time, i dont think this is the way to go X(
But well, seems interesting, going to give it a shot
In the video thats downlaodable on the 3DS, Link was doing something normal and the green bar depleted
@katsagu Don't judge a Zelda game by the presentation. Wind Waker proved many haters wrong.
when using the Hammer....
Can somebody tell me what about the art style people don't like? Looks great to me. As good as Super Mario Galaxy which was the best looking game on Wii. (I get not liking the top down view but that's not graphics.)
Also, they really need to call this "Paper Zelda: ALttP" so they can start a new series of paper games. I'm up to Bowser in Paper Mario and it's a great game.
At the 20 second mark...
@Red_Kinetic In A Link to the Past, the hammer was called the Magic Hammer.
I approve, I like that it appeals to those screaming for a LTP remake and those wanting an all new game. Definitely looking forward to this as LTP was my favorite in the series.
YES YES YES **Explodes with happyness**
Yes, but it never depleted the Magic Meter
wonderful!!!!!
It looks like the 2D Zelda isn't dead! I can't wait to see how this develops, because I loved a LttP.
@Red_Kinetic The hammer might have magical properties this time. But, you could be right. I hope we get more details at E3.
MeowtOfHere
RIP
Yesssss.
You 3D Zelda fans will be getting your Majora's Mask remake later, let us 2D fans have this one. We haven't had a new traditional zelda since the Game Boy Advance.
The game accurately transfers the aged look of A Link To the Past to a 3D platform, although I am unsure of how much I like the "aged look".
Smiley faced springs are pretty ridiculous looking to the point of being pretty distracting.
They were in the original as well!
So, does this mean we start out with ALL the equipment?
OMIGOD!!!!
What if they turned A Link to the Past and this game into an Oracle Style combo?
You play through ALttP completely and get a code and you start off where you left off, minus the Master Sword!!!!
I'll wait and see what happens with this; Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks weren't to my tastes, and this looks similar-ish.
@Blaze
Pray (or complain a lot online) for no touchscreen only movement.
@LordJumpMad Nintendo being lazy again? Tons of Zelda fans including I have wanted a classic Zelda game, with classic link. That's like saying Majora's Mask was just a repackaged cash-in. BTW, NSMBU was awesome.
@6ch6ris6 It's going to be released on the e-shop, and has a video on the e-shop.
@erv this is a new game, genius
There can't be stylus movement as it plays on the top 3D screen.
All those lame Mario announcements had me worried, but THIS definitely has my interest... thank god it's new!
I'm surprised they didn't swap over to blonde Link for this one. I mean, they made an obvious hint when they bundled the blonde Link's into the Four Swords, and incorporated blonde Link's voice FX into the GBA Link to the Past. Interesting move.
@DarkKirby Watch the trailer on the eshop. Gameplay is on the top screen in widescreen and in 3D. The bottom screen is probably for easy item select and map.
weird art style, probably get used to it tho, and the walking on walls part could be fun. link to the past era setting is a good thing.
and for the record, phantom hourglass and spirit tracks were excellent games, unless you are some kind of wind waker hater, they are as close to more of the same that we are likely to get.
and you get used to the stylus control pretty quickly so no point in sayin poop about that.
The second piece of good news gaming wise for today. I cant wait to get this one since ALttP was my favorite Zelda.
I don't like the look of Link that much, but everything else looks gorgeous. I have been wanting to see a new style of Link. This'll do, aha. (Super excited for this, either way!)
It looks awfully similar to Minish Cap. Still Minsh Cap was amazing I wonder if this will make me buy a 3DS.
He... turns... into a drawing? sigh... whatever, Nintendo. Whatever...
I'm of course excited it's a new Zelda and not a remake or a port, but kind of disappointed they've gone with the top down view. Ocarina 3D showed it was possible to have a full, console style Zelda game on the 3DS. Ah well. I'll still be getting it.
Wait....It's a different Link as well.... He doesn't have Pink hair..
@Red_Kinetic Link never had pink hair. The SNES had some limitations, so Nintendo couldn't give Link the yellow hair he actually had.
This is SO not a A Link to the Past sequel, remember the Oracle games and Link's Awakening are sequels to that same game...and the end of Link's Awakening is...
This is probably a reimagining of ALttP, to please the 'I WANT A REMAKE' part of the fanbase while pleasing the 'I WANT A BRAND NEW GAME!!' part.
ALttP is one of my less favorite Zelda games, so...I'm not...sure what to think about this game...
Interesting. LTTP was the only Zelda game I was able to get into...
Nintendo will definitely have something left for E3. To be honest, I had no idea they were working on this many titles for the 3DS alone. I am literally slavering at the mouth for the Zelda and Yoshi's island games. This is the reason why Nintendo directs can compete with E3, a bundle of joy wrapped in a 40 minute video.
Actually, looking at the footage... it does look remarkably like a remake. It shows one boss, who's from ALTTP. It shows a few different enemies, all from ALTTP. The doors in dungeons, the trees, the ridges where land rises up, the bouncer obstacle, it's all from A Link to the Past Excitement rapidly fading
@Peach64 They specifically said that it wasn't a remake of ALttP...
They did say that it was set in the same world.
So I expect the world to look the exact same...
I wonder if it less a sequel or remake as it might be an HUGE expansion with the same story, a second story thrown in at part way through and the fight with Ganon is the end of the first story and then the second story takes more prominance with Post-Ganon bosses and Dungeons.
This looks great. I just hope they do not rely on the touchscreen for fighting and walking. I would much rather they use the bottom screen as an inventory system (hence clearing off the top screen from any clutter distracting from the game).
Definitely not a fan of the top down view and the more I watch the gameplay trailer, the less interested I am in it. I don't know if I'll be picking this up yet.
I do like the art style, although Link looks weird. I really wasn't a fan of his old design in the first place, though, so I suppose I'm a bit biased.
I hope it'll be as long as ALttP. o.o
Perfect! Really looking forward to this game now . Hope it's nothing like Phantom Hourglass or Spirit Tracks.
Haven't this hyped since the announcement of MH3U last march I think . .
Either I have grown old or this game looks sort of bad. I don't really like the art style. It just looks like upscaled DS visuals. I would prefer a 3D game. I hope they let you use the buttons, the touchscreen controls on the DS games were frustrating to me!
I don't read Japanese but the Japan Direct showed 2014 after the footage for this.
I suppose it could come out in the west first though...
The art style looks so... Harvest Moon-ish. I was also hoping for it not to be top-down. But the way Nintendo has been cranking out quality games for the 3DS (even if they aren't my personal taste) is absolutely wonderful.
So many good games coming... too much xD
Good, good.
Cool. Is that a new 3d version of Link of the Past?
I can't say that I'm not happy, but the art style they chose seems a bit, oh, how shall I put this. . Crude. At the moment, the 3D images look like something from an early N64 game, and "Drawn Link" looks like he's set for a narrated Indie adventure.
Nice
on topic: this is great news i love a link to the past and a game in a similar style and the same world is great news to me
off topic: anyone else notice that all the news nowadays is about the 3DS what about the WiiU are they saving it all for E3 or what?
Wheres my Deku Nut? better get ready for that journey!
I just watched the trailer on my 3DS and the 3D really pops. It could end up being a very impressive showcase for the 3D capabilities of the system.
FINALLY! After 9 years of waiting, we're getting another 2D Zelda game. But I'm not convinced that these graphics are an improvement.
Don't make me use touch controls for this game and I'll buy it.
Watched the 3D version and it looks really good! i loved PhantomHourglass and SpiritTracks but people really want to have regular controls now, i assume this isn't touch operated since the action will be on the top screen, i imagine it will run just as OoT did on 3DS.
I need to get a 3DS...
As much as I loved Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks (seriously, people, the touch-screen controls worked fantastically well), I'm glad this game seems to use a standard control scheme. Simply because it wouldn't feel like A Link to the Past otherwise.
I really want this one!
Mario&Luigi Dream Team, Yoshi's Island 3DS, Bravely Default, Shin Megami Tensei IV, AND A Link To The Past Sequel!
Holy poopies, this really is the best Handheld ever made! They should've just called it the Super Nintendo 3DS. XD
EARTHBOUND!!! lol
I wished they would've talked more about the Wii U, but I think its pretty obvious that they're gonna stay quiet about it until E3 & they're getting all of the 3DS stuff out of the way so they have more time at the event.
Regardless, this was one of the Best Nintendo Directs ever!
I almost got a heart attack as soon as I saw this! Then I almost died once I realized it wasn't a remake, but a sequel to my favorite Zelda game ever!
Wow!.. Just wow! This is going to be the best Zelda in ages. Releasing this year as well, can't wait to play it!
Am I the only one who thought the touch controls worked perfectly fine? O_o Well, considering the gameplay is on the top screen, it'll be controlled with the circle pad, so don't worry.
ALttP was an amazing game, but not one of my absolute favorites...I prefer Link's Awakening and the Oracle games. Nevertheless, a sequel is very much welcome and it's about time we got an original Zelda on 3DS. Now hopefully we'll get that MM remake later on! =D
...I wish they'd given us a title so I knew what to call it.
It's not Majora's Mask (sorry, that's my favorite Zelda) but this is a very pleasant surprise regardless. I'll take it.
@HeatBombastic
Every time I hear the word "classic" for a video game, it mean:, we're giving you something you already played before.
I for one, and many other Nintendo fans would like to see something fresh and new, not this poorly made, and low polygon Zelda game.
I know Nintendo can do better then this.
@Happy_Mask
Only if its done in "Spirt Tracks" style.
Since that what all Nintendo fans like in a Zelda game.
Wow, I like how they act retro for this Zelda game! I also like how you can make Link turn into a drawing. I would never expect that from the Legend of Zelda!
@Kaeobais Absolutely true. This is probably the best time to get a 3DS!
I'd rather prefer news on ETERNAL DARKNESS, but this is okay.
WITH HAPPINESS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But seriously, this is awesome! Day one. Just wondering what's left for e3 :/
Best New of the Day!
@IsawYoshi
WiiU.
Last year they had to split the WiiU announcements and 3DS announcements in to two different conferences, whereas the 3DS got a smaller conference the day after the big E3 conference that focused on WiiU.
E3 2013 will most likely be all about WiiU.
Well, I know what I'm getting for Christmas!
Seriously, ALttP is one of my favorite games of all time, so I hope this delivers!
Also, why are people complaining about the art style? You people do realize that this is the art style used in ALttP, don't you? (as in the art style used for the official artwork for the game. Thus this isn't a "new" art style, and it makes perfect sense).
a link to the now!
@LordJumpMad You can't just say this is a poorly made and low polygon game when we've hardly even seen anything of it yet. And if you got the chance to play it, you never know...you might end up liking it! Don't be so quick to judge...
Just because it's a sequel to one of the most popular Zelda titles doesn't mean it's a rehashing. It looks very new and fresh to me.
I don't care for the porcelain doll look but c'est la vie.
My wallet isn't very happy, though.
But is this touch controlled?
@Sensei_PikPik I imagine it will use the circle pad since the action will be on the top screen to make use of the 3D. That doesn't mean it can't be controlled via touch screen, but I doubt it will be.
I wonder if it'll be a bit like that multi-screen take on The Legend of Zelda from last November?
(video here for the lazy reader)Change it from "Year of Luigi" to "Year of 3DS".
Now my Hyrule Historia is out of date!!
@Noxia I know! UUUUUUURRRRGH!
Wasn't too sure if I liked the top down perspective, I was expecting the new 3DS Zelda to be more.. well.. 3D. But after a nice long look at the trailer on my 3DS I'm convinced this was a very good idea. It looks like a more back-to-basics approach, but it seems to work surprisingly well with the 3D effect.
I hope it has 3D fog floating overhead
Awesome!!!
It isn't Toon Link and it isn't realistic Link. Yet another new look for Link.
So does this mean that Majora's Mask 3D won't be coming to 3DS any more? :/
No Majoras Mask oh well, I can wait a little longer for that it's all good. New Zelda new Mario Party, Wiiu update and more Luigi very exited.
Best news of the day! This game looks amazing.
Why are so many people complaining about the art style and 'being able to do more'? If they went with a style similar to OOT3D and we ended up getting MM3D, that would kill the whole mood really. While OOT3D showed us that the 3DS can handle a console-like experience with a big open world, that doesn't mean every game from here on should go that route.
Granted, it did shock me a bit and I was feeling a little bad about it, but once I saw the trailer and this whole 'turn into drawing and move across walls' thing, I've been sold. It also helps that we finally get to experience a new top-down game in the long since gone style of LttP.
If anything would have been lazy, it would have been re-hashing OOT's style for a new game when we still might be getting what would be a 2nd rehash in MM3D.
@HawkeyeWii
Fist of, it's not a new look. Just based around the original artwork for A Link to the Past, this is what ALttP should have looked like but couldn't due to the limitations of the hardware.
Second, Nintendo stated that they wanted to release a original Zelda title before making more remakes. So after the release of this game, there's definitely hope for a Majoras Mask 3D game.
Needs more pink hair
@19Robb92 Being based around doesn't necessarily mean a full copy either. I think the 'wall drawing movement' thing helps to separate it and give it a semi-new style.
Love the art style an the 2D mehanic sold me! Nintendo is cooking up something delicious and I can't wait to try it !!!
@Red_Kinetic It's the magic bar... -_-
This is what I think will still be coming from this years E3:
New 3D Mario Wii U, New 3D Mario 3DS, Mario Kart U, Smash Bros. Brawl, A new Kirby game, uhhh....
New 3DSi.
@Chriiis
Copy of what? I'm just saying the artstyle isn't new. The game itself obviously is.
@Keldeo_Sword
Don't forget Project X, RETRO Studios new game(s), Monolith Soft's new 3DS game, Bayonetta 2, Fire Emblem X SMT & Yarn Yoshi.
Why so many doubters here? It'll be an excellent addition to the Zelda series and anybody who doesn't at least give it a try will just be missing out. Shame on you. Like so many other 3DS games....a day one buy for me
Not too sure. I'm not used to top-down gameplay, and the graphics are really weird looking. Areas looks really sparse and seems like a really easy, cheap update, really.
I'm disappointed, but I will try it! No harm in that. Just gotta try the first one out first.
@19Robb92 I'm saying they added more to the style than just a simple graphical leap, which is what you seemed to be implying. The new wall drawing scenario gives it a semi-new style, even if it is mainly based off of LttP. I think that's what @HawkeyeWii was partly referring to also, rather than just the main link look.
Meh.. Seems like Nintendo's starting going down the "New" games route with Zelda..
I wouldn't have been so excited for this if I hadn't seen the gameplay footage. The gameplay and art style look amazing!
@ToxieDogg I am genuinely surprised at how many negative comments there have been. This looks gorgeous.
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
INSTA-BUY DAY ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@MeWario I hate that kind of people too, they beg for a new zelda, they get it and they are like: "Nintendo isn't trying anymore, this looks like trash, I want more of the same...."; and on the other hand, they get an awesome remake and they are like: "Another remake?, I want a new zelda Nintendo, no matter what...". Humanity is very stupid all the time.
One word. Awesome.
Just watched the trailer on my 3DS, it looks really nice and makes great use of the 3d screen.
Only one problem; I've never played Link to the Past!!! And I don't have a Wii/Wii U, I hope the release it on the 3DS eshop so I can play the original first.
@FOURSIDE_BOY You're so right.
DAY. 1. BUY. Unless it's too close to Christmas.
If Nintendo was going the "New" route with Zelda games, that would suggest puzzles that are not as well thought out, a story that is non-existant, and not as much content.
As much as we've seen so far, Nintendo has literally JUST changed the camera to the top-down view, and returned a more classic look to Link. That doesn't warrant Nintendo being lazy.
Why are people complaining about it being top down? Top down Zeldas rock. They're not inherently worse than the 3D ones like some of you fools are implying. They just have a different perspective, which allows for a focus on different types of puzzles.
There's one specific element that I hope they've added in the game, and is extremely essential to a Zelda game. Challenge.
Seriously, think about it. One of the primary motivation "generators" in Alttp was how challenging/difficult and sometimes dark the game was. Those of you who played it in the golden years of your childhood know what I'm talking about. Walking into your first dungeons and being bombarded with that creepy soundtrack playing in the background, having to backtrack immensely in order to keep moving through the dungeon, stepping inside the boss room and hearing that intense, yet threatening tune kick in.
It was all an adrenaline rush.
Bottom line, I want them to give us a fun game, but also challenging content.
@ I agree, they have become alot easier as of late, I hope they capture the challenge of alttp for this one.
Who needs E3 with awesome Nintendo Directs like the past couple. I absolutely love how great this game looks! Sorry Pikmin 3, but theres a new #1 on my wishlist
IT'S HERE!!!!!!! I'M SO HAPPY! GIMMEGIMMEGIMME!
HAAAPPPIIIIINEEEEDSSSASSS OMG YAYA
I'm really liking those screenshots. The dungeons and over world are very reminiscent of ALttP while the game itself looks entirely new.
I still have yet to see a gameplay video. I'm still at work, but my shift's almost over... >_<
I'M HUNG UP! OH MY GOD!
^for those of you that don't know, that is an OoT reference. found this in the game's code.
anyhow, the character design for Link looks like it's following that of the original SNES version (where his hair sticks out in front of his face). i actually preferred that design over the other versions of Link. those screenshots are looking beautiful. a little disappointed it has the same overworld as LttP, though. i just hope the kakariko village theme plays in kakariko village, because in the SNES version, it plays in Link's house, not Kakariko village itself.
if you'll excuse me, i'm going to play me some LttP now.
Why toon link. Why not another different look. >.>
I'm pretty sure it's called A Link to the Past 2, if I'm not mistaken, your articles doesn't mention the name.
@Gridatttack What are you talking about? It's not Toon Link.
Nice to see a new Zelda game, but why can't this have The Wind Waker or Twilight Princess's art style? It doesn't look very good like the other Zelda games I mentioned.
@SparkOfSpirit True...
But it looks a bit like it. But it doesn't resemble too much to it.
So I guess I can roll with that
Paper Link confirmed!
Looks a bit rough, but I'm sure it'll become quite a fine game to go with the collection. ;D
Though I don't think they're bad games at all, I have been somewhat let-down by the last three portable entries in the series, so I have high hopes that this will something of a return to form for top-down Zelda.
eh
@John-San3 Adding challenge doesn't really fit into modern Nintendo philosophy. I fully agree with you, the balanced difficulty was big reason for why LttP was so good.
@AgentAPE Been easy since Minish Cap actually... that game's nearly a decade old.
@shyguy91 I feel you man! I hate the way it looks, plus, Toon Link > Retro Link...
@Gridatttack
"Why toon link. Why not another different look. >.>"
no. just no.
this is toon link:
this is classic link, the one in this new game:
I'm excited.
Im excited!!! Its like miyamoto said, he didnt want to make a sequel to "alttp" and he didnt want to do a remake. Yet, he gave us the best of both worlds!! A remake/sequel to LOZ:alttp!!!
Oh [insert 4 letter word here]!!!
Love classic link. Time to draw pictures of classic link!
@0SP_ZELDAiii
I know
But looking at the chalk like drawing, the bottom looks like toon link.
I hope the classic design is actually used, not TL like design
And there isnt any clear shot of the in game link.
@TwilightV Comment of the Year
So when they said they were making a completely 'new' Zelda, somethin that was gonna make my eyes bleed with its freshness, what they were reeeeally sayin was, "we're makin an 'old' Zelda". Glad Ninty keeps its promises
@shinobi88 Right, because a sequel could in no way be any different from its predecessor.
ehm.
i literally will buy a 3DS for the new Zelda game.
I wonder if it is a literal sequel or spiritual successor; same Link or new Link? I...I...just soiled myself.
I have not owned a handheld system since the GBA.
Nothing on DS, PSP, Vita, 3DS has interested me quite enough to fork out the cash (because I'd end up playing it at home, not on the road like I did with my GB as a kid)
But then Nintendo had to go and do this???
Better start saving, because I'm going to buy a Wii U as soon as the next Zelda on there is released. I'm going to be BROKE !
TAKE MY MONEY NINTENDO!!! JUST TAKE IT ALL!
I just saw the video on the 3ds and its very impressive and AMAZING!! Now the wait begins!!! Btw, for everyone else who is doubting nintendo, think again the BIG N is doing mini E3 presentations. wait till they show their big Guns at this years E3!!! While all the ps4 owners and NextBox still wait for their game library to expand NINTENDO will be ahead of the game. )))
@theperson lol for real!!!
@Gridatttack
"But looking at the chalk like drawing, the bottom looks like toon link."
not to me it doesn't. the hair on the chalk drawing was the main indicator that it's classic link.
I am not big on the whole "Link Sticker star" look with link sticking to walls. That seems kind of dumb and ridiculous. I know it is not real but there is a limit. Turning into a chalk drawing is silly.
I just have to say that I 'm glad a new Zelda game is coming. I can't read the comments anymore. Nothing Nintendo does seems to please some people, even the ones who claim to be fans. This is to classic, not classic enough, should've gone completly new gameplay, should've stuck more to the original's. Sigh, just irritating.
New Zelda! This is excellent news. My favorite adventures are from this series. Nintendo rocks!
I think this looks fantastic, personally. Really excited for this one.
Ah Nintendo, why must u be so cruel to my wallet? Anyway, good year to be a 3DS owner!
I never played A Link to the Past so no nostalgia here. But seeing this makes me want to download it now! In other words:
@LDXD @Zodiak13
I am SO with you guys. Seriously, on every article, I always see people whining over silly things, being faithless or pessimistic, or criticizing Nintendo unnecessarily. Reggie was right. The really IS no way of pleasing Nintendo fans.
The last 2D Zelda game I played was Spirit Tracks...
@NintendoPro64 Yeah like someone up above that says this is a poorly made low polygon game when we've only seen about one 1 minute video of it.
Personally loving the new art style!
Ok, gotta do some serious budgeting now.
Zelda: Oracle of Seasons - $10.oo
Zelda: Oracle of Ages - $10.oo
Zelda: Wind Waker HD - $60.oo
Zelda: Link to the Past 2 - $40.oo
WiiU console - $400.oo
Wii Classic Controller - $60.oo (I want the Gold one)
Zelda: A Link to the Past - $10.oo
Animal Crossing: New Leaf - $40.oo
Nearly $700.oo in total
This looks so great! I love the return to the classic Link look! And this game is NOT a remake. Reggie said so and he clearly added that it was a new story and new dungeons. It is in the same world, of course. It is the same look and similar play style, it's what he meant. And I'm sure some returning locations, but it's a full new game.
Just like Twilight Princess was in the same "world" as OoT.
Sounds cool! I really hope they make a Majora's Mask 3D as well, so that I can experience the story for the first time just like with OOT 3D~ (And it would also help if my 3DS wasn't DAMAGED..)
MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHH
AWWW YEAH!!!!!! GIVE ME SOME OF THAT ZELDA 3DS!!!!!!
@DaveC Silly? So they should just not add any creativity or new ideas to the mix for the new puzzles? They should just trash it and go the same and usual as the original with only graphics changing up the experience? Seriously? Look, not hating on you for your opinion, but there's gotta be new concepts for keeping a game fresh. And if that drawing of Link is too "silly" for the game, then the concept of little fairies is too silly too and should be removed, eh? Let the games be whatever they are, please. Just saying.~
I just wonder what Ganon is up to!
Not to be Mr. Negative Pants but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for traditional controls. Either way, a classic is coming.
Such a bummer! This looks entirely like Link's Awakening but with better graphics. I was hoping for a Zelda game that would push the barriers of what the 3DS is capable of. If this is releasing in the fall, then there's no hope MM will be remastered. The overtly top-down perspective doesn't work with these graphics, I wish it was angled a bit more.
This is not the Zelda I was hoping for. This is a remastered Link's Awakening. WTH Nintendo!!
I don't see why everyone is completely oblivious to the A at the bottom right of the screenshots. I think it's pretty freakin' obvious that it won't be touch controls!
I am not a fan of 2D Zelda games, so this is a no buy for me...
@Chriiis
That's not a new style either. It's the same used in the introduction sequences for Wind Waker.
Ok, i could consider to buy a 3ds...
@gundam00 It looks like A Link to the Past more than Link's Awakening.
They might not want to call it a remake, but I'm not sure sequel is the right word either. Re-imagining? So disappointing.
@Peach64 How is it disappointing? You just showed a pic. Are you saying you don't like that there are familiar settings?
@007 Yeah, if it's the same overworld, the same enemies, the the same look for everything, then it's going to feel like playing ALTTP again, and as much as I love that game, I have it already. I can go play it anytime on my Wii or on my DS.
@Peach I can understand dissapoinment that its not all fresh. I wanted never seen before concepts too. But I admit at the same time so many people wish for something like this all the time when the new doesnt live up. They say: just take the best of the old games redone with modern graphics and then just replace the quests/objectives to make it worth reliving. I dont know, it seems ideal in some ways too i guess.
Looks great.
I need to play ALTTP first, hope it gets a 3DS/Wii U VC release before this game comes out (never had the original and never bought any VC games for the Wii).
Looks awesome! But I definitely need to play ALttP 1st. Heck, I'm going to do just that after I finish Retro City Rampage. Can't wait for the next LoZ game now
Awesome!!! But... it does seem strange that they have link look like a hybrid of 'a link to the past', and 'ocarina of time link.'
Not the Zelda I was hoping for. T^T I do wish they bring either MM3DS or a brand new console style 3D Zelda game. Not hating on this game, but I am a fan of the open-world Zeldas.
Actually, I really liked the 3D effect in the trailer when Link bounces from one dungeon floor to the other. Drawing!Link brings a new dynamic to the board and I fail to understand how that is a bad thing. Certainly not a day one buy since I'll have to wait a few months for the physical copy to arrive over here. :/
tl:dr - I am hyped.
@Peach64
God, that looks so freaking good
Also, I don't get the complaint. No More Heroes 2 didn't feel like a remake of No More Heroes 1, yet it took place in the same overworld and had the same enemies and reused some bosses. This is going to be amazing!
Not too impressed by this. I'm pretty sad now that Majora's Mask 3D is practically impossible as I've been hoping for a remake for years. But it's not just that, I don't like 2D Zelda's so making an ALTTP sequel is the worst decision Nintendo could have made for me. Not too sure if I'll end up buying it or not. If it was an open world 3D Zelda I would be perfectly happy.
I remember sometime back ign had asked people to vote for ALTTP sequel or Majora's Mask remake and I voted for the ALTTP sequel and happy about Nintendo's decision to stay true to ALTTP roots.
ALTTP the game I played through like 6-7 times.. Love it! I'm getting this game whatever happens.. also own a original snes one mint in box.. still play that cart on my snes from time to time..
@The_Joker
HAHAHAHAAA!
Love it!
Can't wait for this!
As you can tell both from my avatar and my profile (Zelda: Link to the Past Forever!), Link to the Past is my personal favorite.
Watching the trailer on an actual 3DS is a lot better than on the Internet. Not really a fan of 3D gaming (on Ocarina of Time have been playing with the 3D off for most of the game), but on this 3DS title I am really digging the 3D.
@Cowlaunch "Meh. The 3DS is capable of a lot more than this. We could be playing Mario and Zelda games with huge worlds in 3D (gameplay) to explore. Just seems such a waste to me"
You do realise we have not had a 2D Zelda game in eight years since The Minish Cap? It's about time they do 2D Zelda. If Mario can have 2D/3D in the same generation, then so can Link!
@Peach64 I have a friend who loves LTTP and Zelda II (like myself) and I actually forwarded him that screenshot you posted on his Facebook account. Your comparision confirms exactly what Reggie said in the Nintendo Direct video - this new Zelda game is taking place in the same game world as LTTP. To me that's tremendously exciting. There are a few game worlds that feel like home to me simply because I've spent so much time in them - Elder Scrolls III - Morrowind and LTTP being first among them. This game will be like a home coming.
@Keldeo_Sword I highly doubt they are going to reveal a 3D Mario for the 3DS. We already have a 3D Mario and with this whole year of Luigi going on, I don't think they would start production on another Mario title so soon.
LIke some others said - with all these announcements, either E3 is going to be great or rather subpar, with all the big announcements having already been made. That Nintendo Direct, what with Earthbound (finally!), LTTP remake, etc, was a Nintendo fantastic dream.
@CowLaunch i thought the same thing until i downloaded the 3D video on the eShop
@MarioPartyFan999 Nintendo ALWAYS said they'd make a new Zelda before remaking Majora's Mask. Look, they're making a new Zelda. Next they'll probably remake Majora's Mask, since after this game I very much doubt they're going to remake A Link to the Past.
I can't express my excitement for this one in words.
@LDXD
I'm sorry, does my opinion not fit with you so you have to resort to making childish statements degrading other people?
@evanescent_hero
Sure, releasing a new Zelda before Majora's Mask would be fine except that I wanted to see a 3D Zelda. The 3DS would be awesome for it, as already seen by OOT3D. MM3D is probably years away now if they ever decide to do it.
OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just can't wait for the game to come out!!!! I'm probably going to play this game so much that I'll break my 3DS!!!!!!
