It's rumoured release time again, just as today threatened to pass without any new additions. This time around it's an all new entry in the Assassin's Creed series, which will apparently be called Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, moving beyond all of that silly non-numbered spin-off business. It's apparently due this fiscal year, with some saying it will land in 2013. With Assassin's Creed III and its DLC gracing Wii U, along with Ubisoft's various other multi-platform titles — such as Watch_Dogs — coming to the system, we'd hope that this new entry would arrive on Nintendo's console.
There are a couple of sources that give this rumour some credence. Videogamer.com found and screengrabbed LinkedIn profiles of three Ubisoft employees that said they were working on a project called Assassin's Creed IV, though those staff have now removed those references. In addition, Kotaku claims to have a leaked marketing poster that shows a white cloaked assassin surrounded by well-bearded sea-dogs in pirate-like attire. Of course any old scallywag could mock up a poster, but who knows?
We certainly expect to learn more about the Assassin's Creed series very soon, but whether the reveal will be a full sequel is unknown. It seems feasible, but what do you think? Would you be keen to play a new Assassin's Creed title this year, especially if it has more of the sea battle action from the most recent entry? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

The sea battles were the best thing in Assassin's Creed III. I would LOVE a whole game based around them.
Rumour?
Come on, a "rumour" that there would be a new assassins creed game each year is as safe a bet as a "rumour" that there will be a new call of duty out in november.
Also, the Assassin in 4 is supposed to be the father of Haytham (From Assassins creed 3). Thats basically the only rumour part, and you missed it out.
I will walk the plank for this.
In other news, Madden 14 confirmed for August and Modern Warfare 4 confirmed for November.
Hey at least it's not Assassin's Creed III: Connor's Revenge, Again. This one has a number and everything.
Crap.
I hated most of the naval missions in the last. Some drove me absolutely mad. My boyfriend, on the other hand, loved every single one.
It was the first Assassin's Creed game for me and I really enjoyed it. I'd definitely snag the next installment if it's on Wii U.
Sounds more real than anything that comes out of Pachter's mouth.
I'm not to sure on this one at all, I'm currently playing Assassin Creed III and I have to say it's taking it's time to grow on me. I would like to see Ubisoft bring the earlier entries to the Wii U as I found them more enjoyable. But I'll keep an eye on this and reserve judgement if and when it appears.
I want a game based in feudal Japan.
Aww, must it become a new game every year franchise?
@Angelic_Lapras_King Ubisoft announced three years ago that Assassins Creed was to become a yearly franchise. And it has been — for years.

Am I the only person in the world who didn't really like the naval missions in 3? I just found them boring and tedious to be honest... Maybe I just don't get them.
@L-Lawliet
So do I, that would be a great setting. I remember they said in a interview that they thought it was the worst setting possible for some reason, which I totally disagree with. But I'm not a game designer, so I can't really judge that decision.
Gotta love LinkedIn
That's kinda unexpected. I did not expect an Assassins Creed based on pirates. How strange, but I guess it would make sense in the future.
I was confused on the decision to make 4 already, but considering how the brilliant gameplay and story potential was wasted on an uneven mess of a story for 3, this makes COMPLETE sense. And everyone wanted a pirates game after the naval sections, which are arguably the best.
ASSASSINATE ORLANDO BLOOM
Sadly I can't even get excited, I'm so burnt out on Assassin's Creed, I thought I'd love 3 but I didn't, it was a good game but I had to push myself to finish it. Eventhough it was actually better than Revelations (and probably Brotherhood as well) I just couldn't get into. This isn't an FPS that just needs a tacked on single player campaign and new maps, these are the kind of games that benefit from a 2-3 year development cycle but the people at Ubisoft have really screwed the pooch on that. I want this game to be awesome but I'm not confident in it and I'm certainly not going to be rushing out to pre-order not when games like The Last of Us, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, GTA V and Watch_Dogs are on the horizon.
Lame. I just want to play as a damn assassin again! Not some Orlando Bloom wannabe in pirates of the carrabean.
Ubi need to go back to what made the first & second AC games so great. Its just ridiculous now....
@Gamer83 You do realize the game was in development since 2 came out right?
@Zellybeanie The ship battles weren't so bad (so far), what pisses me off is sneaking on the ships without the Redcoats detecting you.
@Gamer83 Well said
@kkslider5552000 Stll doesn't mean they aren't over-saturating the market. Same thing happened to Guitar Hero. Same thing will happen to COD (once people wise up that is...)
@dragon_rider Oh, the ninja stuff I was always great at. Some of the naval missions were so bad I needed to switch to GamePad only to finish them. For some reason, I don't know why, the smaller screen helped in some cases.
How I'd really like a "realistic" 3D graphics no holds barred sequel to Uncharted Waters! You listening Koei? No? Too busy becoming irrelevant? Oh, okay.
good form.
after 3 im surprised they even want to make another game -_- worst and buggy game ever
and i heard its a prequel to the 3rd one o.O with haythams dad so wtf?
