I am glad these are finally getting released on Switch for people that want to try these out. As for me, I already own 1 to 3 different versions of each of these games, so not worth the price.
@JJtheTexan I hear ya. Final Fantasy VI is the best of the series imo, but IV (or II as it originally was in the US) was the first Final Fantasy game I played, so it is always special to me as well.
Since Metroidvanias are all the rage lately, maybe Capcom should make Mega Man 12 more in that style. Defeating bosses and using their abilities to access more areas would be cool. Maybe also toss in some armor piece upgrades akin to the Mega Man X games.
@Gofixmeaplate Triangle Strategy may rank with my favorite games of all time. I am seriously considering ignoring my backlog to play through the whole game again on New Game+.
I have heard the music is great in the Pixel Remaster versions, but am I the only one that thinks that visually the Pixel Remaster of FFVI is butt-ugly? I wish there was an option to play VI with the visuals and translation of the GBA version but the soundtrack from the remaster.
@Tasuki @Mgalens @CharlieGirl To be fair, the storyline in FFV is, for a lack of better description, super lame. Also, to be fair, being sandwiched between FFIV and FFVI really makes the shortcomings of V’s storyline stand out more.
That being said, the gameplay in FFV is top notch and the job class system is the true star of the show.
I don’t understand how Square-Enix had so much to show for Dragon Quest III 2D-HD when it was first announced yet here we sit 1.5 years later with zero updates and still not even a simple confirmation of what consoles it will even be on…
I played this through when it first launched on Xbox Arcade. It was a really good game, but yes, extremely frustrating at times. It was also a very disturbing game, so for people that are easily bothered by disturbing content, this may not be their can of beans.
@Ganner Absolutely! Very well put! It was easily one of my favorite PS1 games. Another really crazy thing is that as awesome and iconic as the original Silent Hill was, Silent Hill 2 came along and, against all odds, managed to be even better. I first played 2 with the mindset of "there is no way this will be as epic as the original," and holy cow was I pleasantly surprised.
@Ganner Yeah, Silent Hill… ooof. The sound of static on radios creeped me out for quite some time after playing that game. It didn’t have as many memorable jump scares as Resident Evil, but overall it was a far creepier/more disturbing game.
I feel like a see articles like this way too often regarding UK physical copies of Switch games. I am really sorry y'all have to deal with this so often.
I have always been a rock fan, and the Guitar Hero/Rock Band games, as dumb as they were in retrospect, were actually a great source for me to discover new songs and bands.
@NeonPizza Yeah, I fully agree with you here. 11 was very good and I really enjoyed it, but I didn’t feel like it pushed the series forward in any meaningful way.
@denpanosekai I read a review for the Xbox version that was mostly positive. They still complained a bit about the controls, but there weren't any performance issue complaints in that one, so I am guessing the Xbox/Playstation versions must be quite a bit better than the Switch port. I have yet to read any reviews of the PC version, but I wonder if using keyboard/mouse fixes any of the fiddly control issues.
I laughed a couple of times reading the first couple of paragraphs, saw the word "curmudgeon" get used, and the next thing I know I am wrapping up the reading of an ENTIRE article about a game that I have no interest in ever playing! You got me again, Kate!
@ATaco Yes, it is incredibly sad. The Blizzard from the 90's is so far removed from the Blizzard of today that it is difficult to even think of them as being the same company.
@BloodNinja @chipia Blood Ninja, normally I agree with you here but... If the mobile version: A) Is very well ported B) Does not have micro transactions (pay once and own) C) Does not have ads Then I am okay with it. The 16-bit DQ mobile ports were very well done and the type of game DQ is works well enough on a touch screen.
I know this is not a popular opinion, but I actually enjoyed VI more than V. Sure, V had a better storyline, but I found the boss battles in VI to be more challenging. I felt like I mostly coasted through V with little difficulty.
@johnedwin I like Zelda II as well, and it was actually the first one I ever played, but I do find it very tough to recommend as the starting point for someone new to Zelda. Not only is it the most difficult Zelda game, it is also differs the most in design from the other entries.
Triangle Strategy really resonated with me. It wasn't just the best game I played this year, but probably the best game I have played in several years. I couldn't get myself to put that one down, and despite my current backlog, I am still tempted to play through it again on NG+.
As much as I enjoyed the first title, it did get somewhat repetitive toward the end of the game, so hopefully they add more diversity to quests and town visit activities in this new one.
@SirCarbs I was born in 85 as well, and while I don’t think Mega Man 2 is overrated (I love it), I fully believe that X on SNES is the pinnacle of the series. It is one of those games that I go back and play through again every couple of years.
@screechums I agree that Mega Man 2 is amazing, and it is the first one I played as a child in the late 80s; however, Mega Man X on SNES is the first Mega Man game to truly blow me away. It will always be my personal favorite. I guess my point is, there are some 80s kids out here too that prefer X. 🙂

Re: Talking Point: What Would You Want To See In A 'Mega Man 12'?

If there is one thing that I have learned from NL over the last couple of years, it is that @AlanaHagues is a gamer of culture and class.
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Sonic Prime
@blindsquarel Sonic Boom was WAY funnier than it had any right to be. I loved it.
Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Year In Review 2022 - Our Most Played Games
@shining_nexus “ Triangle Strategy game of the year for me. Awesome game”
Yes. Utterly incredible. When first jumping into it, I figured that me enjoying it was a safe bet, but I was surprised by just how much I enjoyed it.

I have never played one of these, but this does look really cool.
Unfortunately though, it releases on the same day as Octopath II. 😬
@Kidfunkadelic83 I too am curious as to whether this would be enjoyable for someone who has not played the other entries.

Retro Bowl is crazy addicting, so I am definitely open to try Retro Goal once it launches on Switch.

Great game, but I sunk such an ungodly amount of hours into it on PS3 when it first came out that I can’t justify ever starting again.

@WanzerAce I honestly prefer the pixal art of the originals over the look of this new one anyway…
