@itslukec Dragon Quest is famed for it's adherence to classic JRPG mechanics and tropes. I think if they made DQ12 more like a FFXV, fans would lose their minds (and not in a good way).
@DeathlySW @Mr_Fox Oh for sure. There are quite a few good writers on Nintendo Life, but Kate's articles always stand out. Her writing style exudes such an abundance of personality that you can't help but to want to read more.
Good list! I personally would have added Moving Out to this list as well. 4 player local co-op sessions of Moving Out are complete chaos and tend to result in a lot of laugh-out-loud moments.
@Gwynbleidd I finally got around to playing 7 last year and was very impressed. They managed to update the POV and controls for a modern audience while still managing to give the game a very similar survival horror feel of the original game.
@ChromaticDracula The idea is that you are supposed to conserve your limited ammo and try to avoid fighting enemies when possible. It was part of the ‘survival’ aspect of the game. I know other people who have the same complaint about the classic RE games though, so you definitely are not alone in your opinion.
As someone who played the original on Playstation quite a bit, the most alarming part of REmake for me the first time I played it was the first time I left a zombie in a room thinking he would safely be stuck in there like in the original game. Needless to say, I was VERY wrong and nearly jumped out of my seat when that zombie burst out that door! 🤣
Also, I agree with the author. As amazing as RE4 was, REmake remains my favorite entry to this day.
@OldManHermit This is pretty much what fans have always wanted from a live action RE adaptation, but at this point it is probably safe to say we will never get something awesome like you suggest. 😕
“...How come Chrono Trigger just got an ultrawide update before a Switch release? Come on!”
Preach!
Square-Enix has been odd lately. LIVE A LIVE gets announced and instantly has a release date. DioField gets announced and we already know which consoles it will be on and that it is slated for 2022. Meanwhile, Dragon Quest 2D-HD gets announced back in May 2021, fans go wild, but now in March 2022 we still haven’t even been told which consoles it will be on let alone a prospective release time.
@FX29 The combat and job class system in V were amazing. The storyline on the other hand, not so much… 😕 I would be down for a remake of V though. I really enjoyed the 3D remake of III on DS.
Hopefully they handle this better than the Dragon Quest anniversary in which they announced really cool stuff that we we still haven’t heard another peep about almost a year later…
I remember reading about how slick the fighting mechanics in this were back when it first released on Steam. When it drops on Switch I will definitely be checking it out.
I am thinking this is going to be the first Pokemon game I purchase since way back when I bought Y on 3DS. After that they kind of fell off my radar. I am also going to break my rule of always picking a grass type starter as Fuecoco is So. Damn. Cute!
@Astral-Grain Oh man, that sucks… 🙁 I know that was quite some time ago, but traumatizing crap like that from childhood often sticks with us forever. A kid should never have to go through that experience.
@ch37 Me: "Oh gosh... this looks cool but I am not sure I need yet another JRPG at this time..." ~sees that a portion of the game is old west themed~ Me: "Whelp, looks like Square is getting more of my money come July."
@Swizze Agreed. It is kind of a bummer though as the story-line in this one was kind of intriguing. This will show you how hideously far behind I am in JRPG backlog, but I am now finally playing Octopath Traveler (which, holy cow, is utterly amazing). Next up I have Wrath of the White Witch and Xenoblade; however, I am getting the feeling that Triangle Strategy is going to rudely cut its way to the front of the line when it releases...
I miss those days. Link cable play was so fun on GB and GBA. There was nothing quite like seeing the worry in your opponent's face when you started charging that solar beam.

Re: Random: Jealous Husband Sells Wife's Harvest Moon Collection To Stop Her "Marrying Virtual Men"
@Balladeer Garrus was hands-down the coolest Mass Effect character. Stone cold badass.
Re: Haunted House Renovator Looks Like Luigi's Mansion X Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer
This is actually a really cool concept for a game. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.
Re: Tekken: Bloodline Is Netflix's New Animated Video Game Adaptation
@SteamEngenius It was absolutely mesmerizing in its beauty . I can safely say it was my favorite show from 2021.
Re: Tekken: Bloodline Is Netflix's New Animated Video Game Adaptation
I will be really upset if there isn’t an episode where they all go bowling.
Re: My Nintendo Offers Some Sweet N64-Themed Keychains In The US
@1UP_MARIO You get the Triangle Strategy pins that I want but can't get in the US.

Re: Triangle Strategy Gets A My Nintendo Pin Set That Isn't Triangular
If these were available in the US, I would have finally been redeeming some of these points for the first time…
Re: Random: Console Modder Makes "Fake Portable GameCube" Mock-Up A Reality
@MostHandsieBoy “Wind Waker is the high water mark of Zelda games.”
I see what you did there. 😉
Re: Uh-Oh, Chocobo GP's Season Pass Is Ruffling A Few Feathers With Fans
@Dramlin Exactly. I have been following this rule with Square-Enix: If it isn't a JRPG, don't bother with it.

Re: Feature: So, One Horse-Sized Duck Or Ten Duck-Sized Horses? Yoko Taro Answers The Big Question
@TurtleTurtle Unless that duck was hungry and you were carrying a loaf of bread around with you!!!
Re: Feature: So, One Horse-Sized Duck Or Ten Duck-Sized Horses? Yoko Taro Answers The Big Question
@OnlyItsMeReid ...and as bad as one horse sized duck would be, it still wouldn't be as nasty as one horse sized goose!
Re: Glory Hunters Looks Like A Game Boy Zelda, And Plays Like Nothing Else
This looks really cool, but these GameBoy releases from Kickstarter seem to be showing up a lot lately!
Re: Review: F-Zero X - The Best The Series Has To Offer
So many great memories of playing this game split-screen at sleepover parties… 🙂
Re: Chrono Trigger, Secret Of Mana, And Final Fantasy Soundtracks Appear On Square Enix's Music Channel
@CharlieGirl I would also go as far to say that Celes' Theme is still to this day the best track ever to appear in a Final Fantasy game.

Re: Video: 9 Exciting New Games Coming To Nintendo Switch In March 2022
Triangle Strategy for sure.
Re: Poll: What's The Best Batman Game On Nintendo Systems?
As an aside, I got to go to an early showing of The Batman last night, and it was REALLY damn good.
Re: Rocket League Adds Its Fourth Batmobile To Celebrate The New Batman Movie
@nessisonett Yes. Upon the first reveal of this movie’s Batmobile, I was very happy to see they moved away from the armored tank look.

Re: Video: Some Of Us Prefer Zelda: Majora's Mask Over Ocarina Of Time Because We're Right
Both are utterly amazing...
...but Link to the Past was better than both.

“DedeDAMN”
…aaaand just like that, you instantly know that you are about to read a Kate Gray article. 🤣
Re: Review: Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection - Ageing Classics And Glitches Galore
@Mando44646 Black Flag was the peak in my opinion, but to be fair I haven't played any of these from Origins on...
Re: Mini Review: Grapple Dog - A Cracking GBA-Style Platformer, With Echoes Of Go! Go! Beckham!
"B" to confirm and "A" to cancel is SIMPLY WRONG
This reminds me of how thrown off I always was playing Metal Gear games on PS1/PS2 and how 'O' was confirm and 'X' was cancel in them.
Re: Review: PowerSlave Exhumed - An Old-School FPS That's Absolutely Worth Digging Up
@IronMan30 If you don’t already have the Quake remake, I would definitely recommend it. They did a nice job with that one.
Re: Review: PowerSlave Exhumed - An Old-School FPS That's Absolutely Worth Digging Up
It is great that we are getting so many of these recently, but I am still hoping for Hexen to come to Switch! 🙂
Re: Poll: Do You Have An Issue With Xenoblade Chronicles' Accents?
Keep the accents. Consistency. 🙂
Re: Feature: All Six American Football Games On Switch (Yes, You Read That Right)
I love Tecmo Bowl on NES, but have never played the arcade version. Is it worth picking up?

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2022 Nintendo Direct?
Well, Square-Enix will be getting my money for every one of these 2D-HD games releasing...
Triangle Strategy = Definitely
Live A Live = Yep
Dragon Quest III = For sure (if it ever gets a release date...)

…really frightening.
Re: Mini Review: Retro Bowl - An Addictive 8-Bit Throwback That's Appropriately Super
@HolyGeez03 Those were a blast!
Re: Mini Review: Retro Bowl - An Addictive 8-Bit Throwback That's Appropriately Super
@thedudeabides05 Hopefully the Browns and Vikings also both suck as well when I play as them. I want a moderate degree of realism here.
Re: Mini Review: Retro Bowl - An Addictive 8-Bit Throwback That's Appropriately Super
…and only $2.99 right now?! Heck yeah! Why not!?
Re: Unplug From The Internet In Land Of Screens, Available Now On Switch
A story about getting away from screens that you get to experience… on a screen! 🤪
That being said, the art style in this game looks very charming.
Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Major Upcoming Switch Games
@BlackenedHalo Being better than FF: Tactics is a pretty lofty goal, but Triangle Strategy does look promising, so we can always hope!
